A translation surface of Euclidean space $\r^3$ is the sum of two regular curves $α$ and $β$, called the generating curves. In this paper we classify the minimal translation surfaces of $\r^3$ and we give a method of construction of explicit examples. Besides the plane and the minimal surfaces of Scherk type, it is proved that up to reparameterizations of the generating curves, any minimal translation surface is described as $Ψ(s,t)=α(s)+α(t)$, where $α$ is a curve parameterized by arc length $s$, its curvature $κ$ is a positive solution of the autonomous ODE $(y')^2+y^4+c_3y^2+c_1^2y^{-2}+c_1c_2=0$ and its torsion is $τ(s)=c_1/κ(s)^2$. Here $c_1\not=0$, $c_2$ and $c_3$ are constants such that the cubic equation $-λ^3+c_2λ^2-c_3λ+c_1=0$ has three real roots $λ_1$, $λ_2$ and $λ_3$.
In this paper, we study and classify singular minimal translation surfaces in a Euclidean space of dimension 3 endowed with a certain semi-symmetric (non-)metric connection.
We prove that the only surfaces in $3$-dimensional Euclidean space $\R^3$ with constant Gaussian curvature $K$ and constructed by the sum of two space curves are cylindrical surfaces, in particular, $K=0$.
In this paper, we extend the notion of affine translation surfaces introduced by Liu and Yu (Proc. Japan Acad. Ser. A Math. Sci. 89, 111--113, 2013) in a Euclidean space R^{3} to higher dimensional ambient spaces. We provide that an affine translation hypersurface of constant Gauss-Kronocker curvature K_{0} in R^{n+1} is a cylinder, i.e. K_{0}=0. As further applications we describe such hypersurfaces in the isotropic spaces satisfying certain conditions on the isotropic curvatures and the Laplacian.
In this paper, we consider the problem of finding the hypersurface M^n in the Euclidean (n+1)-space R^{n+1} that satisfies an equation of mean curvature type, called singular minimal hypersurface equation. Such an equation physically characterizes the hypersurfaces in the upper halfspace (R^{n+1})_{+} with lowest gravity center, for a fixed unit vector u in R^{n+1} . We first state that a singular minimal cylinder M^n in R^{n+1} is either a hyperplane or a α-catenary cylinder. It is also shown that this result remains true when M^n is a translation hypersurface and u a horizantal vector. As a …
This paper gives, in generic situations, a complete classification of ruled minimal surfaces in pseudo-Euclidean space with arbitrary index. In addition, we discuss the condition for ruled minimal surfaces to exist, and give a counter-example on the problem of Bernstein type.
In this paper we prove that a flat free-boundary minimal $n$-disk, $n\geq3$, in the unit Euclidean ball $B^{n+1}$ is the unique compact free boundary minimal hypersurface in the unit Euclidean ball which the squared norm of the second fundamental form is less than either $\frac{n^2}{4}$ or $\frac{(n-2)^2}{4|x|^2}$. Moreover, we prove analogous results for compact free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in annular domains with a conformally Euclidean metric.
In this paper, we investigate surfaces in singular semi-Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{0,2,1}$ endowed with a degenerate metric. We define $d$-minimal surfaces, and give a representation formula of Weierstrass type. Moreover, we prove that $d$-minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{0,2,1}$ and spacelike flat zero mean curvature (ZMC) surfaces in four-dimensional Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{4}_{1}$ are in one-to-one correspondence.
It is well known that the only surfaces that are simultaneously minimal in $\mathbb{R}^3$ and maximal in $\mathbb{L}^3$ are open pieces of helicoids (in the region in which they are spacelike) and of spacelike planes (O. Kobayashi 1983). The proof of this result consists in showing that the level curves of those surfaces are lines, and so the surfaces are ruled. And it finishes comparing the classification of minimal ruled surfaces to that of maximal ruled surfaces. In this manuscript we consider the general case of spacelike hypersurfaces in the $(n+1)$-dimensional Euclidean space which are s…
In this work, we prove that any two free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in the unit Euclidean ball have an intersection point in any half-ball. This is a strong version of the Frankel property proved by A. Fraser and M. Li \cite{FRLI}. As a consequence, we obtain the two-piece property for free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in the unit ball: every equatorial disk divides any compact minimal hypersurface with free boundary in the unit ball in two connected pieces.
We prove that the area of a free boundary minimal surface $Σ^2 \subset B^n$, where $B^n$ is a geodesic ball contained in a round hemisphere $\mathbb{S}^n_+$, is at least as big as that of a geodesic disk with the same radius as $B^n$; equality is attained only if $Σ$ coincides with such a disk. More generally, we prove analogous results for a class of conformally euclidean ambient spaces. This follows work of Brendle and Fraser-Schoen in the euclidean setting.
Minimal surfaces of general type in Euclidean 4-space are characterized with the conditions that the ellipse of curvature at any point is centered at this point and has two different principal axes. Any minimal surface of general type locally admits geometrically determined parameters - canonical parameters. In such parameters the Gauss curvature and the normal curvature satisfy a system of two natural partial differential equations and determine the surface up to a motion. For any minimal surface parameterized by canonical parameters we obtain Weierstrass representations - canonical Weierstra…
In this paper, we investigate minimal submanifolds in Euclidean space with positive index of relative nullity. Let $M^m$ be a complete Riemannian manifold and let $f\colon M^m\to\R^n$ be a minimal isometric immersion with index of relative nullity at least $m-2$ at any point. We show that if the Omori-Yau maximum principle for the Laplacian holds on $M^m$, for instance, if the scalar curvature of $M^m$ does not decrease to $-\infty$ too fast or if the immersion $f$ is proper, then the submanifold must be a cylinder over a minimal surface.
In this paper, we define and classify minimal translation surfaces with respect to a kind of semi-symmetric metric connections and a kind of semi-symmetric non-metric connections in $\mathbb{R}^3$ and $\mathbb{R}^3_1$.
The fact that minimal surfaces in the four-dimensional Euclidean space admit natural parameters implies that any minimal surface is determined uniquely up to a motion by two curvature functions, satisfying a system of two PDE's (the system of natural PDE's). In fact this solves the problem of Lund-Regge for minimal surfaces. Using the corresponding result for minimal surfaces in the three-dimensional Euclidean space, we solve explicitly the system of natural PDE's, expressing any solution by virtue of two holomorphic functions in the Gauss plane. We find the relation between two pairs of holom…
In this paper we introduce and investigate a new notion of flexibility for domains in Euclidean spaces $\mathbb R^n$ for $n\ge 3$ in terms of minimal surfaces which they contain. A domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb R^n$ is said to be flexible if every conformal minimal immersion $U\toΩ$ from a Runge domain $U$ in an open conformal surface $M$ can be approximated uniformly on compacts, with interpolation on any given finite set, by conformal minimal immersion $M\to Ω$. Together with hyperbolicity phenomena considered in recent works, this extends the dichotomy between flexibility and rigidity from complex…
We study minimal Lorentz surfaces in the pseudo-Euclidean 4-space with neutral metric whose first normal space is two-dimensional and whose Gauss curvature $K$ and normal curvature $\varkappa$ satisfy the inequality $K^2-\varkappa^2 >0$. Such surfaces we call minimal Lorentz surfaces of general type. On any surface of this class we introduce geometrically determined canonical parameters and prove that any minimal Lorentz surface of general type is determined (up to a rigid motion) by two invariant functions satisfying a system of two natural partial differential equations. Using a concrete sol…
We construct free boundary minimal surfaces (FBMS) embedded in the unit ball in the Euclidean three-space which are compact, lie arbitrarily close to the boundary unit sphere, are of genus zero, and their boundary has an arbitrarily large number of connected boundary components. The construction is by PDE gluing methods and the surfaces are desingularizations of unions of many catenoidal annuli and two flat discs. The union of the boundaries of the catenoidal annuli and discs is the union of a large finite number of parallel circles contained in the unit sphere, with each parallel circle conta…
In this paper, using the Weierstrass-Enneper formula and the hodographic coordinate system, we find the relationships between the Ramanujan identity and the generalized class of Scherk surfaces known as affine Scherk surfaces. We find the Dirichlet series expansion of the affine Scherk surface. We also obtain some of the probability measures of affine Scherk surface with respect to its logarithmic distribution. Next, we classify the affine minimal translation surfaces in $\mathbb{L}^3$ and remarked the analogous forms in $\mathbb{L}^3.$
In this paper we show that all conformal metrics to a pseudo-euclidean space invariant under the translation group, and all the conformal metrics product manifold also invariant by translation where F m it is Ricci flat semi-Riemannian manifold, are gradient Ricci almost soliton. We also proved that all conformal metrics to a euclidean space and invariant by rotation are gradient Ricci almost soliton.
A $λ$-translating soliton with density vector $\vec{v}$ is a surface in Euclidean space whose mean curvature $H$ satisfies $2H=2λ+\langle N,\vec{v}\rangle$, where $N$ is the Gauss map. We classify all $λ$-translating solitons that are invariant by a one-parameter group of translations and a one-parameter group of rotations.
The goal of this article is to investigate nontrivial $m$-quasi-Einstein manifolds globally conformal to an $n$-dimensional Euclidean space. By considering such manifolds, whose conformal factors and potential functions are invariant under the action of an $(n-1)$-dimensional translation group, we provide a complete classification when $λ=0$ and $m\geq 1$ or $m=2-n.$
Valuations constitute a class of functionals on convex bodies which include the Euler-characteristic, the surface area, the Lebesgue-measure, and many more classical functionals. Curvature measures may be regarded as "localised`` versions of valuations which yield local information about the geometry of a body's boundary. A complete classification of continuous translation-invariant $\mathrm{SO}(n)$-invariant valuations and curvature measures with values in $\mathbb{R}$ was obtained by Hadwiger and Schneider, respectively. More recently, characterisation results have been achieved for curvatur…
