In this paper we complete the classification of the elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces which admit a non-symplectic involution acting trivially on the Néron--Severi group. We use the geometric method introduced by Oguiso and moreover we provide a geometric construction of the fibrations classified. If the non-symplectic involution fixes at least one curve of genus 1, we relate all the elliptic fibrations on the K3 surface with either elliptic fibrations or generalized conic bundles on rational elliptic surfaces. This description allows us to write the Weierstrass equations of the elliptic fibrations on the K3 surfaces explicitly and to study their specializations.
In this paper we classify the elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces which are the double cover of a blow up of $\mathbb{P}^2$ branched along rational curves and we give equations for many of these elliptic fibrations. Thus we obtain a classification of the van Geemen--Sarti involutions (which are symplectic involutions induced by a translation by a 2-torsion section on an elliptic fibration) on such a surface. Each van Geemen--Sarti involution induces a 2-isogeny between two K3 surfaces, which is described in this paper.
Markushevich and Tikhomirov provided a construction of an irreducible symplectic V-manifold of dimension 4, the relative compactified Prym variety of a family of curves with involution, which is a Lagrangian fibration with polarization of type (1,2). We give a characterization of the dual Lagrangian fibration. We also identify the moduli space of Lagrangian fibrations of this type and show that the duality defines a rational involution on it.
Let f: X->B be a fibred surface of genus g whose general fibre is a double cover of a smooth curve of genus gamma. We show that, for g > 4gamma+1, the number 4(g-1)/(g-gamma) is a sharp lower bound for the slope of f, proving a conjecture of Barja. Moreover, we give a characterisation of the fibred surfaces that reach the bound. In the case g = 4gamma+1 we obtain the same sharp bound under the assumption that the involutions on the general fibres glue to a global involution on X.
We study the pencils of minimal degree on the smooth curves lying on a K3 surface X which carries a fixed-point free involution. Generically, the gonality of these curves is totally governed by the genus 1 fibrations of X
Let X be an irreducible smooth projective curve, of genus at least two, defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from two. If X admits a nontrivial automorphism σthat fixes pointwise all the order two points of Pic}^0(X), then we prove that X is hyperelliptic with σbeing the unique hyperelliptic involution. As a corollary, if a nontrivial automorphisms σ' of X fixes pointwise all the theta characteristics on X, then X is hyperelliptic with σ' being its hyperelliptic involution.
Let $C$ be a hyperelliptic curve of genus $g \geq 3$. We give a new description of the theta map for moduli spaces of rank 2 semistable vector bundles with trivial determinant. In orther to do this, we describe a fibration of (a birational model of) the moduli space, whose fibers are GIT quotients $(\mathbb{P}^1)^{2g}//\operatorname{PGL(2)}$. Then, we use recent results of Kumar to identify the restriction of the theta map to these GIT quotients with some explicit osculating projection. As a corollary of this construction, we obtain a birational equivalence between the ramification locus of th…
A projective symplectic variety $\mathcal{P}$ of dimension 6, with only finite quotient singularities, $π(\mathcal{P})=0$ and $h^{(2,0)}(\mathcal{P}_{smooth})=1$, is described as a relative compactified Prym variety of a family of genus 4 curves with involution. It is a Lagrangian fibration associated to a K3 surface double cover of a generic cubic surface. It has no symplectic desingularization.
We construct fiber-preserving anti-symplectic involutions for a large class of symplectic manifolds with Lagrangian torus fibrations. In particular, we treat the K3 surface and the quintic threefold. We interpret our results as corroboration of the view that in homological mirror symmetry, an anti-symplectic involution is the mirror of duality. In the same setting, we construct fiber-preserving symplectomorphisms that can be interpreted as the mirror to twisting by a holomorphic line bundle.
We study K3 surfaces over a number field $k$ which are double covers of extremal rational elliptic surfaces. We provide a list of all elliptic fibrations on certain K3 surfaces together with the degree of a field extension over which each genus one fibration is defined and admits a section. We show that the latter depends, in general, on the action of the cover involution on the fibers of the genus 1 fibration.
In this paper, we classify the minimal surfaces of general type with $χ=5$, $K^{2}=9$ whose canonical map is composed with an involution. We obtain 6 families, whose dimensions in the moduli space are 28, 27, 33, 32, 31 and 32 respectively. Among them, the family of surfaces having a genus 2 fibration forms an irreducible component of $\mathfrak{M}_{χ=5, K^{2}=9}$.
This paper classifies surfaces of general type $S$ with $p_g=q=1$ having an involution $i$ such that $S/i$ has non-negative Kodaira dimension and that the bicanonical map of $S$ factors through the double cover induced by $i.$ It is shown that $S/i$ is regular and either: a) the Albanese fibration of $S$ is of genus 2 or b) $S$ has no genus 2 fibration and $S/i$ is birational to a $K3$ surface. For case a) a list of possibilities and examples are given. An example for case b) with $K^2=6$ is also constructed.
We study surfaces of general type $S$ with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=3$ having an involution $i$ such that the bicanonical map of $S$ is not composed with $i$. It is shown that, if $S/i$ is not rational, then $S/i$ is birational to an Enriques surface or it has Kodaira dimension $1$ and the possibilities for the ramification divisor of the covering map $S\rightarrow S/i$ are described. We also show that these two cases do occur, providing an example. In this example $S$ has a hyperelliptic fibration of genus $3$ and the bicanonical map of $S$ is of degree $2$ onto a rational surface.
We first demonstrate how duality for the fibres of the so-called Hitchin fibration works for the Langlands dual groups Sp(2m) and SO(2m+1). We then show that duality for G2 is implemented by an involution on the base space which takes one fibre to its dual. A formula for the natural cubic form is given and shown to be invariant under the involution.
Three new examples of 4-dimensional irreducible symplectic V-manifolds are constructed. Two of them are relative compactified Prymians of a family of genus-3 curves with involution, and the third one is obtained from a Prymian by Mukai's flop. They have the same singularities as two of Fujiki's examples, namely, 28 isolated singular points analytically equivalent to the Veronese cone of degree 8, but a different Euler number. The family of curves used in this construction forms a linear system on a K3 surface with involution. The structure morphism of both Prymians to the base of the family is…
We give finite presentations for the fundamental group of moduli stacks of smooth Weierstrass curves over complex projective space P^n which extend the classical result for elliptic curves to positive dimensional base. We thus get natural generalisations of SL_2(Z) and pave the way to understanding the fundamental group of moduli stacks of elliptic surfaces in general. Our approach exploits the natural involution on Weierstrass curves and the identification of its fixed loci with smooth hypersurfaces in an appropriate linear system on a projective line bundle over P^n. The fundamental group of…
We show that a Hilbert scheme of conics on a Fano fourfold double cover of $\mathbb{P}^2\times\mathbb{P}^2$ ramified along a divisor of bidegree $(2,2)$ admits a $\mathbb{P}^1$-fibration with base being a hyper-Kähler fourfold. We investigate the geometry of such fourfolds relating them with degenerated EPW cubes, with elements in the Brauer groups of $K3$ surfaces of degree $2$, and with Verra threefolds studied in [Ver04]. These hyper-Kähler fourfolds admit natural involutions and complete the classification of geometric realizations of anti-symplectic involutions on hyper-Kähler $4$-folds o…
After fixing a non-degenerate bilinear form on a vector space V we define an involution of the manifold of flags F in V by taking a flag to its orthogonal complement. When V is of dimension 3 we check that the Crepant Resolution Conjecture of J. Bryan and T. Graber holds: the genus zero (orbifold) Gromov-Witten potential function of [F / Z_2] agrees (up to unstable terms) with the genus zero Gromov-Witten potential function of a crepant resolution Y of the quotient scheme F / Z_2, after setting a quantum parameter to -1, making a linear change of variables, and analytically continuing coeffici…
We study the minimal complex surfaces of general type with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=7$ or 8 whose bicanonical map is not birational. In the paper 'The bicanonical map of surfaces with $p_g=0$ and $K^2\ge 7$' we have shown that if $S$ is such a surface, then the bicanonical map has degree 2. Here we describe precisely such surfaces showing that there is a fibration $f\colon S\to \pp^1$ such that: i) the general fibre $F$ of $f$ is a genus 3 hyperelliptic curve; ii) the involution induced by the bicanonical map of $S$ restricts to the hyperelliptic involution of $F$. Furthermore, if $K^2_S=8$, then $f$ …
Consider a Maslov zero Lagrangian submanifold diffeomorphic to a Lie group on which an anti-symplectic involution acts by the inverse map of the group. We show that the Fukaya $A_\infty$ endomorphism algebra of such a Lagrangian is quasi-isomorphic to its de Rham cohomology tensored with the Novikov field. In particular, it is unobstructed, formal, and its Floer and de Rham cohomologies coincide. Our result implies that the smooth fibers of a large class of singular Lagrangian fibrations are unobstructed and their Floer and de Rham cohomologies coincide. This is a step in the SYZ and family Fl…
In this paper we discuss four methods of proving modularity of Calabi--Yau threefolds with $h^{12}=1$: existence of elliptic ruled surfaces inside (Hulek-Verrill), correspondence with a product of an elliptic curve and a K3 surface (Livné-Yui), correspondence with a (modular) rigid Calabi-Yau threefold, and existence of an involution splitting the fourdimensional representation into twodimensional subrepresentations. We apply these methods to prove modularity of 17 out of 18 double octic Calabi-Yau threefolds for which "numerical evidence of modularity" was found in the second Author's thesis.…
We show that the stringy Kähler moduli space of a generic genus one curve of degree $N$, for $N\le 5$, is the $Γ_1(N)$ modular curve $X_1(N)$. This implies a correspondence between the cusps of the modular curves and certain large volume limits in the stringy Kähler moduli spaces of genus one fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds with $N$-sections. Using Higgs transitions in M-theory and F-theory as well as modular properties of the topological string partition function, we identify these large volume limits with elements of the Tate-Shafarevich group of the genus one fibration. Singular elements appea…
Given an Enriques surface $T$, its universal K3 cover $f: S\to T$, and a genus $g$ linear system $|C|$ on $T$, we construct the relative Prym variety $P_H=\Prym_{v, H}(\D/\CC)$, where $\CC\to |C|$ and $\D\to |f^*C|$ are the universal families, $v$ is the Mukai vector $(0,[D], 2-2g)$ and $H$ is a polarization on $S$. The relative Prym variety is a $(2g-2)$-dimensional possibly singular variety, whose smooth locus is endowed with a hyperkähler structure. This variety is constructed as the closure of the fixed locus of a symplectic birational involution defined on the moduli space $M_{v,H}(S)$. T…
Let X be an Abelian surface and C a holomorphic curve in X representing a primitive homology class. The space of genus g curves in the class of C is g dimensional. We count the number of such curves that pass through g generic points and we also count the number of curves in the fixed linear system |C| passing through g-2 generic points. These two numbers, (defined appropriately) only depend on n and g where 2n=C^2+2-2g and not on the particular X or C (n is the number of nodes when a curve is nodal and reduced). Gottsche conjectured that certain quasi-modular forms are the generating function…
