On surfaces with $p_g=q=1$ and non-ruled bicanonical involution

This paper classifies surfaces of general type $S$ with $p_g=q=1$ having an involution $i$ such that $S/i$ has non-negative Kodaira dimension and that the bicanonical map of $S$ factors through the double cover induced by $i.$ It is shown that $S/i$ is regular and either: a) the Albanese fibration of $S$ is of genus 2 or b) $S$ has no genus 2 fibration and $S/i$ is birational to a $K3$ surface. For case a) a list of possibilities and examples are given. An example for case b) with $K^2=6$ is also constructed.

We study the minimal complex surfaces of general type with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=7$ or 8 whose bicanonical map is not birational. Involutions on surfaces with $p_g=q=1$

In this paper some numerical restrictions for surfaces with an involution are obtained. These formulas are used to study surfaces of general type $S$ with $p_g=q=1$ having an involution $i$ such that $S/i$ is a non-ruled surface and such that the bicanonical map of $S$ is not composed with $i.$ A complete list of possibilities is given and several new examples are constructed, as bidouble covers of surfaces. In particular the first example of a minimal surface of general type with $p_g=q=1$ and $K^2=7$ having birational bicanonical map is obtained.

Involutions on surfaces with $p_g=q=0$ and $K^2=3$

We study surfaces of general type $S$ with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=3$ having an involution $i$ such that the bicanonical map of $S$ is not composed with $i$. It is shown that, if $S/i$ is not rational, then $S/i$ is birational to an Enriques surface or it has Kodaira dimension $1$ and the possibilities for the ramification divisor of the covering map $S\rightarrow S/i$ are described. We also show that these two cases do occur, providing an example. In this example $S$ has a hyperelliptic fibration of genus $3$ and the bicanonical map of $S$ is of degree $2$ onto a rational surface.

Surfaces of general type with $p_g=q=1, K^2=8$ and bicanonical map of degree 2

We classify the minimal algebraic surfaces of general type with $p_g=q=1, K^2=8$ and bicanonical map of degree 2. It will turn out that they are isogenous to a product of curves, so that if $S$ is such a surface then there exist two smooth curves $C, F$ and a finite group $G$ acting freely on $C \times F$ such that $S = (C \times F)/G$. We describe the $C, F$ and $G$ that occur. Involutions on numerical Campedelli surfaces

Numerical Campedelli surfaces are minimal surfaces of general type with p_g=0 (and so q=0) and K^2=2. Although they have been studied by several authors, their complete classification is not known. In this paper we classify numerical Campedelli surfaces with an involution, i.e. an automorphism of order 2. Some bidouble planes with $p_g=q=0$ and $4\leq K^2\leq 7$

We give a list of possibilities for surfaces of general type with $p_g=0$ having an involution $i$ such that the bicanonical map of $S$ is not composed with $i$ and $S/i$ is not rational. A note on Todorov surfaces

A Characterization of Inoue Surfaces with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=7$

Inoue constructed the first examples of smooth minimal complex surfaces of general type with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=7$.These surfaces are finite Galois covers of the $4$-nodal cubic surface with the Galois group, the Klein group $\mathbb{Z}_2\times \mathbb{Z}_2$. Computing the symmetries of a ruled rational surface

We present a method for computing all the symmetries of a rational ruled surface defined by a rational parametrization which works directly in parametric rational form, i.e. without computing or making use of the implicit equation of the surface. Modularity of some non-rigid double octic Calabi-Yau threefolds

In this paper we discuss four methods of proving modularity of Calabi--Yau threefolds with $h^{12}=1$: existence of elliptic ruled surfaces inside (Hulek-Verrill), correspondence with a product of an elliptic curve and a K3 surface (Livné-Yui), correspondence with a (modular) rigid Calabi-Yau threefold, and existence of an involution splitting the fourdimensional representation into twodimensional subrepresentations.
