The Noether Symmetry Approach can be used to construct spherically symmetric solutions in $f({\cal R})$ gravity. Specifically, the Noether conserved quantity is related to the gravitational mass and a gravitational radius that reduces to the Schwarzschild radius in the limit $f({\cal R})\rightarrow {\cal R}$. We show that it is possible to construct the $M-R$ relation for neutron stars depending on the Noether conserved quantity and the associated gravitational radius. This approach enables the recovery of extreme massive stars that could not be stable in the standard Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff based on General Relativity. Examples are given for some power law $f({\cal R})$ gravity models.
The present work is devoted to investigate the Noether symmetries of the locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type I space time in $f(T,B)$ gravity theory which depends on the torsion scalar $T$ and the boundary term $B$. In this theory, we consider some particular models and investigate their Noether symmetry generators. Besides, we get exact cosmological solutions of the considering models including the matter dominant universe using the Noether symmetry technique. The obtained results are coincide with the accelerated expansion behaviour of the universe.
The Noether symmetry approach is useful tool to restrict the arbitrariness in a gravity theory when the equations of motion are underdetermined due to the high number of functions to be determined in the ansatz. We consider two scalar-coupled theories of gravity, one motivated by induced gravity, the other more standard; in Bianchi I, Bianchi III and Kantowski-Sachs cosmological models. For these models, we present a full set of Noether gauge symmetries, which are more general than those obtained by the strict Noether symmetry approach in our recent work. Some exact solutions are derived using…
We search for spherically symmetric solutions of f(R) theories of gravity via the Noether Symmetry Approach. A general formalism in the metric framework is developed considering a point-like f(R)-Lagrangian where spherical symmetry is required. Examples of exact solutions are given.
This paper is devoted to investigate $f(R)$ gravity using Noether symmetry approach. For this purpose, we consider Friedmann Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe and spherically symmetric spacetimes. The Noether symmetry generators are evaluated for some specific choice of $f(R)$ models in the presence of gauge term. Further, we calculate the corresponding conserved quantities in each case. Moreover, the importance and stability criteria of these models are discussed.
In this paper, we present the Noether symmetries of a class of the Bianchi type I anisotropic model in the context of f(T) gravity. By solving the system of equations obtained from the Noether symmetry condition, we obtain the form of f(T) as a teleparallel form. This analysis shows that teleparallel gravity has the maximum number of Noether symmetries. We derive the symmetry generators and show that there are five kinds of symmetries, including time and scale invariance under metric coefficients. We classify the symmetries and we obtain the corresponding invariants.
Hao Wei et.al. has claimed in $\mathrm{Phys. Lett. \textbf{B707}, 298 (2012)}$ that Noether symmetry in the context of teleparallel $f(T)$ theory of gravity admits $f(T)\propto T^{n}$, (where $n$ is an arbitrary) in matter domain era in Friedmann- Robertson universe. But, it has been shown that the conserved current obtained under the process does not satisfy the field equations in general. Here, it is shown that Noether Symmetry admits $f(T)\propto T^\frac{3}{2}$ along with a conserved current $ a \dot a T^\frac{1}{2}$ in teleparallel $f(T)$ gravity. Thus, their claim is not correct.
This paper is devoted to investigate the recently proposed modified Gauss-Bonnet $f(\mathcal{G},T)$ gravity, with $\mathcal{G}$, the Gauss-Bonnet term, coupled with ${T}$, the trace of energy-momentum tensor. We have used the Noether symmetry methodology to discuss some cosmologically important $f(\mathcal{G},T)$ gravity models with anisotropic background. In particular, the Noether symmetry equations for modified $f(\mathcal{G},T)$ gravity are reported for locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type $I$ universe. Explicitly, two models have been proposed to explore the exact solutions and the…
We study Palatini f(R) cosmology using Noether symmetry approach for the matter dominated universe. In order to construct a point-like Lagrangian in the flat FRW space time, we use the dynamical equivalence between f(R) gravity and scalar-tensor theories. The existence of Noether symmetry of the cosmological f(R) Lagrangian helps us to find out the form of f(R) and the exact solutions for cosmic scale factor. We show that this symmetry always exist for f(R)~R^n and the Noether constant is a function of the Newton's gravitational constant and the current matter content of the universe.
In this work, we take a short recap of a formal framework of the Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld (EiBI) theory of gravity and derive the point-like Lagrangian for underlying theory based on the use of Noether gauge symmetries (NGS). We study a Hessian matrix and quantify Euler-Lagrange equations of EiBI universe. We discuss the NGS approach for the Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld theory and show that there exists the de Sitter solution in this gravity model.
We discuss an extended Teleparallel gravity models comprising functions of scalar invariants constructed by torsion, torsion Gauss-Bonnet and boundary terms. We adopt the Noether Symmetry Approach to select the functional forms, the first integrals and, eventually, the exact solutions of the dynamics in the context of flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker cosmology. Standard perfect fluid matter, minimally coupled to geometry, is considered. Several physically consistent models are derived with related exact solutions.
We use Noether symmetry approach to find spherically symmetric static solutions of the non-minimally coupled electromagnetic fields to gravity. We construct the point-like Lagrangian under the spherical symmetry assumption. Then we determine Noether symmetry and the corresponding conserved charge. We derive Euler-Lagrange equations from this point-like Lagrangian and show that these equations are same with the differential equations derived from the field equations of the model. Also we give two new exact asymptotically flat solutions to these equations and investigate some thermodynamic prope…
We explore Noether gauge symmetries of FRW and Bianchi I universe models for perfect fluid in scalar-tensor gravity with extra term $R^{-1}$ as curvature correction. Noether symmetry approach can be used to fix the form of coupling function $ω(ϕ)$ and the field potential $V(ϕ)$. It is shown that for both models, the Noether symmetries, the gauge function as well as the conserved quantity, i.e., the integral of motion exist for the respective point like Lagrangians. We determine the form of coupling function as well as the field potential in each case. Finally, we investigate solutions through …
It is broadly known that Lie point symmetries and their subcase, Noether symmetries, can be used as a geometric criterion to select alternative theories of gravity. Here, we use Noether symmetries as a selection criterion to distinguish those models of $f(R,G)$ theory, with $R$ and $G$ being the Ricci and the Gauss-Bonnet scalars respectively, that are invariant under point transformations in a spherically symmetric background. In total, we find ten different forms of $f$ that present symmetries and calculate their invariant quantities, i.e Noether vector fields. Furthermore, we use these Noet…
In this paper, we consider a gravitational theory including a Dirac field that is non-minimal coupled to gravity in $2+1$ dimensions. Noether gauge symmetry approach can be used to fix the form of coupling function $F(Ψ)$ and the potential $V(Ψ)$ of the Dirac field and to obtain a constant of motion for the dynamical equations. In the context of $2+1$ dimensions gravity, we investigate cosmological solutions of the field equations using these forms obtained by the existent of Noether gauge symmetry. In this picture, it is shown that for the non-minimal coupling case, the cosmological solutions…
In the framework of teleparallel gravity, the Friedman-Robertson-Walker cosmological model with scalar tensor theory where scalar field is non-minimally coupled to both the torsion scalar and boundary term is studied. Utilizing the Noether symmetry approach in such a theory, we obtain the explicit forms of the couplings and potential as a function the scalar field. We present some important cosmological solutions for the modified field equations using these functions getting via the Noether symmetry approach. Finally, the interesting cosmological properties of these solutions are discussed in …
In this paper, we have presented the Noether symmetries of flat FRW spacetime in the context of a new action in Teleparallel Gravity which we construct it based on $f(R)$ version. This modified action contains a coupling between scalar field potential and magnetism. Also, we introduce an innovative approach (B.N.S. Approach) for exact solutions which carry more conserved currents than Noether approach. By data analysis of the exact solutions, obtained from Noether approach, late time acceleration and phase crossing are realized, and some deep connections with observational data such as the age…
In this paper, we study anisotropic universe using Noether symmetries in modified gravity. In particular, we choose locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type-$I$ universe for the analysis in $f(R,\mathcal{G})$ gravity, where $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $\mathcal{G}$ is the Gauss-Bonnet invariant. Firstly, a model $f(R,\mathcal{G})=f_0R^l+f_1\mathcal{G}^n$ is proposed and the corresponding Noether symmetries are investigated. Further, we have also recovered the Noether symmetries for $f(R)$ and $f(\mathcal{G})$ theories of gravity. Secondly, some important cosmological solutions are reconstru…
The Noether charge associated to diffeomorphism invariance in teleparallel gravity is derived. It is shown that the latter yields the ADM mass of an asymptotically flat spacetime. The black hole entropy is then investigated based on Wald's prescription that relies on the Noether charge. It is shown that, like in general relativity, the surface gravity can be factored out from such a charge. Consequently, the similarity with the first law of thermodynamics implied by such an approach in general relativity does show up also in teleparallel gravity. It is found that, based on the expression of th…
In metric formalism, Noether symmetry of F(R) theory of gravity in vacuum and in the presence of pressureless dust yields $F(R)\propto R^\frac{3}{2}$ along with the conserved current $\frac{d}{dt} (a\sqrt R)$ in Robertson-Walker metric and nothing else. However, Roshan et.al. had claimed in $\mathrm{Phys. Lett. \textbf{B668}, 238 (2008)}$ \cite{o} that Noether symmetry in the context of Palatini $F(\Re)$ theory of gravity admits $F(\Re)\propto \Re^{s}$, (where $s$ is an arbitrary constant) in matter domain era in Friedmann- Robertson-Walker universe. But, it has been shown that the conserved c…
We derive and analyze Noether charges associated with the diffeomorphism invariance for the constrained SO(2,3) BF theory. This result generalizes the Wald approach to the case of the first order gravity with a negative cosmological constant, the Holst modification and topological terms (Nieh-Yan, Euler, and Pontryagin). We show that differentiability of the action is automatically implemented by the the structure of the constrained BF model. Finally, we calculate the AdS--Schwarzschild black hole entropy from the Noether charge and we find that, unexpectedly, it does not depend on the Immirzi…
This work aims to investigate some possible emergence of relativistic compact stellar objects in modified $f(\mathcal{G})$ gravity using Noether symmetry approach. For this purpose, we assume static spherically symmetric spacetime in the presence of isotropic matter distribution. We construct Noether symmetry generators along with associated conserved quantities by considering the standard choice of viable $f(\mathcal{G})$ gravity model i.e. $f(\mathcal{G})= α\mathcal{G}^{n}$, where $α$ is the model parameter. In particular, we use conservation relation acquired from the classical Noether appr…
In this paper, in the framework of teleparallel gravity we consider scalar tensor theories of gravity in which scalar fields are nonminimal coupled to torsion scalar. Noether symmetry of the Lagrangian of such a theory for the Friedman-Robertson-Walker spacetime is used to determine the explicit forms for the coupling function and for the potential, and it is shown that both must be power-law forms as a functions of the scalar field. The solutions of the field equations for the considered models are presented by using the results obtained from the Noether symmetry. It is shown that the equatio…
In this paper, we present the Noether symmetries of locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type I (LRS BI), an anisotropic model, in the context of the teleparallel gravity. We study a certain modified teleparallel theory based on the action that, in particular, contains a coupling between the scalar field and field strength (magnetism part). We derive the symmetry generators and show that, by means of cyclic variables approach, we can not obtain a suitable solution for field equations. Hence by the use of B.N.S. approach, we solve the equations which carry Noether currents as well. By data an…
In the framework of $f(T)$-gravity theory, classical and quantum cosmology has been studied in the present work for FLRW space-time model. The Noether symmetry, a point-like symmetry of the Lagrangian is used to the physical system and a specific functional form of $f(T)$ is determined. A point transformation in the 2D augmented space restricts one of the variable to be cyclic so that the Lagrangian as well as the field equations are simplified so that they are solvable. Lastly for quantum cosmology, the WD equation is constructed and possible solution has been evaluated.
We find exact cosmological solutions when the Newton parameter and the cosmological term are dynamically evolving in a renormalization-group improved Hamiltonian approach. In our derivation we use the Noether symmetry approach, leading to an interesting variable transformation which yields exact and general integration of the cosmological equations. The functional dependence of Lambda on G is determined by the method itself, therefore generalizing previous results on symmetry principles in cosmology. We find new functional relations between Lambda and G, jointly with power-law inflation for pu…
This paper is devoted to explore modified $f(\mathcal{R})$ theories of gravity using Noether symmetry approach. For this purpose, Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime is chosen to investigate the cosmic evolution. The study is mainly divided into two parts: Firstly Noether symmetries of metric $f(\mathcal{R})$ gravity are revisited and some new class of solutions with the help of conserved quantities are reported. It is shown that different scenarios of cosmic evolution can be discussed using Noether symmetries and one of the case indicates the chances for the existence of Big Rip singularity.…
The entropy of black holes in modified theories of gravity is examined in the Palatini formalism using the Noether Charge approach. It is shown that, if the gravitational coupling constant is properly identified, the entropy of a black hole is one-quarter of the horizon area in f(R) theories coupled to conformally invariant matter. If matter is present that is not conformally invariant the entropy is still proportional to the area of the black hole, but the coefficient is generally not one-quarter. The entropy of black holes in generalized dilaton theories and in theories with Lagrangians that…
Finding spherically symmetric exact solutions in modified gravity is usually a difficult task. In this paper we use the Noether's symmetry approach for a modified Teleparallel theory of gravity labelled as $f(T,B)$ gravity where $T$ is the scalar torsion and $B$ the boundary term. Using the Noether's theorem, we were able to find exact spherically symmetric solutions for different forms of the function $f(T,B)$ coming from the Noether's symmetries.
In this paper, we analyze static traversable wormholes via Noether symmetry technique in modified Gauss-Bonnet $f(\mathcal{G})$ theory of gravity (where $\mathcal{G}$ represents Gauss-Bonnet term). We assume isotropic matter configuration and spherically symmetric metric. We construct three $f(\mathcal{G})$ models, i.e, linear, quadratic and exponential forms and examine the consistency of these models. The traversable nature of wormhole solutions is discussed via null energy bound of the effective stress-energy tensor while physical behavior is studied through standard energy bounds of isotro…
The framework of SO(3,2) constrained BF theory applied to gravity makes it possible to generalize formulas for gravitational diffeomorphic Noether charges (mass, angular momentum, and entropy). It extends Wald's approach to the case of first order gravity with a negative cosmological constant, the Holst modification and the topological terms (Nieh-Yan, Euler, and Pontryagin). Topological invariants play essential role contributing to the boundary terms in the regularization scheme for the asymptotically AdS spacetimes, so that the differentiability of the action is automatically secured. Intri…
The Noether currents are derived in a generic metric-affine theory of gravity, and the holographic nature of the gravitational entropy and energy-momentum is clarified. The main result is the verification of the canonical resolution to the energy-momentum problem in the Noether formalism.
It has been recently shown that there is a particular combination of conformal invariants in six dimensions which accepts a generic Einstein space as a solution. The Lagrangian of this Conformal Gravity theory -- originally found by Lu, Pang and Pope (LPP) -- can be conveniently rewritten in terms of products and covariant derivatives of the Weyl tensor. This allows one to derive the corresponding Noether prepotential and Noether-Wald charges in a compact form. Based on this expression, we calculate the Noether-Wald charges of six-dimensional Critical Gravity at the bicritical point, which is …
In general coordinate invariant gravity theories whose Lagrangians contain arbitrarily high order derivative fields, the Noether currents for the global translation and for the Nakanishi's IOSp(8|8) choral symmetry containing the BRS symmetry as its member, are constructed. We generally show that for each of those Noether currents a suitable linear combination of equations of motion can be brought into the form of Maxwell-type field equation possessing the Noether current as its source term.
This paper investigates the geometry of static traversable wormhole through Noether symmetry approach in $f(R)$ gravity. We take perfect fluid distribution and formulate symmetry generators with associated conserved quantities corresponding to general form, power-law and exponential $f(R)$ models. In each case, we evaluate wormhole solutions using constant and variable red-shift functions. We analyze the behavior of shape function, viability of constructed $f(R)$ model and stability of wormhole solutions graphically. The physical existence of wormhole solutions can be examined through null/wea…
The present work deals with scalar field cosmology in the framework of a quantum gravity modified Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian with variable $G$ and $Λ$. Using Renormalization group, variable $G$ behaves as a minimally coupled filed (not the scalar-tensor theory) and variable $Λ$ can be interpreted as a potential function. The point Lagrangian for this model in the background of homogeneous and isotropic flat FLRW space-time model experiences point-like Noether symmetry and equivalent potential function $Λ(G)$ is determined. Using a point transformation in the $3D$ augmented space is found that…
We discuss the f(R) gravity model in which the origin of dark energy is identified as a modification of gravity. The Noether symmetry with gauge term is investigated for the f(R) cosmological model. By utilization of the Noether Gauge Symmetry (NGS) approach, we obtain two exact forms f(R) for which such symmetries exist. Further it is shown that these forms of f(R) are stable.
In this work, we consider F(R) alternative theories of gravity with an eye to Noether symmetry through the gauge theorem. For non-vacuum models, one finds Λ like gravity with energy density of Chaplygin Gas. We also obtain the effective equation of state parameter for corresponding cosmology and scale factor behavior with respect to cosmic time which show that the model provides viable EoS and scale factor with respect to observational data.
We consider modified teleparallel gravity, (f(T) gravity), as a framework to explain the present accelerated expansion of the universe. The matter component is assumed to be cold dark matter. To find the explicit form of the function $f$, we utilize generalized Noether theorem and use generalized vector fields as variational symmetries of the corresponding Lagrangian. We study the cosmological consequences of the obtained results.
In this paper, we investigate the newly developed $f(R,\mathbf{T}^2)$ theory ($R$ is the Ricci scalar and $\mathbf{T}^2=T_{αβ}T^{αβ},~T _{αβ}$ demonstrates the energy-momentum tensor) to explore some viable cosmological models. For this purpose, we use the Noether symmetry approach in the context of flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. We solve the Noether equations of this modified theory for two types of models and obtain the symmetry generators as well as corresponding conserved quantities. We also evaluate exact solutions and investigate their physical behavior via different cos…
Noether's theorem identifies fundamental conserved quantities, called Noether charges, from a Hamiltonian. To-date Noether charges remain largely elusive within theories of gravity: We do not know how to directly measure them, and their physical interpretation remains unsettled in general spacetimes. Here we show that the surface gravity as naturally defined for a family of observers in arbitrarily dynamical spacetimes is a directly measurable Noether charge. This Noether charge reduces to the accepted value on stationary horizons, and, when integrated over a closed surface, yields an energy w…
In this work, we examine solutions of the system of equations obtained by applying the Noether gauge symmetry (NGS) and its conserved quantity for the standard general relativity (GR) and the non-minimal derivative coupling (NMDC) cosmological model. We discover two salient features of the solutions. The first one is $a(t)\propto t^{1/3}$ for a kinetic-dominant phase which may emerge before inflationary period at very early time. The second one is a new form of scalar field $ϕ(t)$ govern by the exponential cosmological solution for GR and NMDC $ϕ_{\rm GR}(t)= \sqrt{c_{1}+c_{2}t+c_{3}e^{-λt}} $…
As usual, we observe an unknown coupling function, i.e. $F(φ)$, with a function of torsion and also curvature, i.e. $f(T)$ and $f(R)$, generally depending on a scalar field. In $f(R)$ case, it comes from quantum correlations and other reasons. Now, what if beside this term in $f(T)$-gravity context, we enhance the action through another term which depends on both scalar field and its derivatives? In this paper, we have added such an unprecedented term in the generic common action of $f(T)$-gravity such that in this new term, an unknown function of torsion has coupled with an unknown function o…
In the framework of an arbitrary $D$-dimensional metric theory, perturbations are considered on arbitrary backgrounds that are however solutions of the theory. Conserved currents for perturbations are presented following two known prescriptions: canonical Nœther theorem and Belinfante symmetrization rule. Using generalized formulae, currents in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity for arbitrary types of perturbations on arbitrary curved backgrounds (not only vacuum) are constructed in an explicit covariant form. Special attention is paid to the energy-momentum tensors for perturbations whic…
Gauge symmetries in teleparallel gravity, together with the identities among the dynamical equations they provide, are analyzed in relation to the way they condition the coupling between matter and gravity. Particularly, the coupling of fermionic matter seems to be excluded in a wide range of teleparallel theories.
Extended $f(R)$ theories of gravity have been investigated from the symmetry point of view. We briefly has been investigated Noether symmetry of two types of extended $f(R)$ theories: $f(R,T)$ theory, in which curvature is coupled non minimally to the trace of energy momentum tensor $T_{μν}$ and mimetic $f (R) $ gravity, a theory with a scalar field degree of freedom, but ghost-free and with internal conformal symmetry. In both cases we write point -like Lagrangian for flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmological background in the presence of ordinary matter. We have been shown…
We review the {\it Noether Symmetry Approach} as a geometric criterion to select theories of gravity. Specifically, we deal with Noether Symmetries to solve the field equations of given gravity theories. The method allows to find out exact solutions, but also to constrain arbitrary functions in the action. Specific cosmological models are taken into account.
We apply the Noether Symmetry Approach to point-like teleparallel Lagrangians in view to derive minisuperspaces suitable for Quantum Cosmology. Adopting the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner formalism, we find out related Wave Functions of the Universe. Specifically, by means of appropriate changes of variables suggested by the existence of Noether symmetries, it is possible to obtain the cosmological Hamiltonians whose solutions are classical trajectories interpretable as observable universes.
The exact solutions of spherically symmetric space-times are explored by using Noether symmetries in $f(R,ϕ,X)$ gravity with $R$ the scalar curvature, $ϕ$ a scalar field and $X$ the kinetic term of $ϕ$. Some of these solutions can represent new black holes solutions in this extended theory of gravity. The classical Noether approach is particularly applied to acquire the Noether symmetry in $f(R,ϕ,X)$ gravity. Under the classical Noether theorem, it is shown that the Noether symmetry in $f(R,ϕ,X)$ gravity yields the solvable first integral of motion. With the conservation relation obtained from…
The forms of coupling of the scalar field with gravity, appearing in the induced theory of gravity, and the potential are found in the Kantowski-Sachs model under the assumption that the Lagrangian admits Noether symmetry. The form thus obtained makes the Lagrangian degenerate. The constrained dynamics thus evolved due to such degeneracy has been analysed and a solution has also been presented which is inflationary in behaviour. It has further been shown that there exists other technique to explore the dynamical symmetries of the Lagrangian and that is simply by inspecting the field equations.…
Spherical symmetry for f(R)-gravity is discussed by searching for Noether symmetries. The method consists in selecting conserved quantities in form of currents that reduce dynamics of f(R)-models compatible with symmetries. In this way we get a general method to obtain constants of motion without setting a priori the form of f(R). In this sense, the Noether symmetry results a physical criterium. Relevant cases are discussed.
We perform a detailed study of the modified gravity $f(R)$ models in the light of the basic geometrical symmetries, namely Lie and Noether point symmetries, which serve to illustrate the phenomenological viability of the modified gravity paradigm as a serious alternative to the traditional scalar field approaches. In particular, we utilize a model-independent selection rule based on first integrals, due to Noether symmetries of the equations of motion, in order to identify the viability of $f(R)$ models in the context of flat FLRW cosmologies. The Lie/Noether point symmetries are computed for …
In the present work, we consider a model with a fermionic field that is non-minimally coupled to gravity in the framework of teleparallel gravity. In order to determine forms of the coupling and potential function of fermionic field for the considered model, we use Noether symmetry approach. By applying this approach, for the Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric, we obtain respective potential and coupling function as a linear and power-law form of the bilinear $Ψ$. Further we search the exact cosmological solution of the model. It is shown that the fermionic field plays role of the dark energy.
Criticality represents a specific point in the parameter space of a higher-derivative gravity theory, where the linearized field equations become degenerate. In 4D Critical Gravity, the Lagrangian contains a Weyl-squared term, which does not modify the asymptotic form of the curvature. The Weyl$^{2}$ coupling is chosen such that it eliminates the massive scalar mode and it renders the massive spin-2 mode massless. In doing so, the theory turns consistent around the critical point. Here, we employ the Noether-Wald method to derive the conserved quantities for the action of Critical Gravity. It …
