A classical fact in ergodic theory is that ergodicity is equivalent to almost everywhere divergence of ergodic sums of all nonnegative integrable functions which are not identically zero. We show two methods, one in the measure preserving case and one in the nonsingular case, which enable one to prove this criteria by checking it on a dense collection of functions and then extending it to all nonnegative functions. The first method is then used in a new proof of a folklore criterion for ergodicity of Poisson suspensions which does not make any reference to Fock spaces. The second method which involves the double tail relation is used to show that a large class of nonsingular Bernoulli and inhomogeneous Markov shifts are ergodic if and only if they are conservative. In the last section we discuss an extension of the Bernoulli shift result to other countable groups including $\mathbb{Z}^{d},\ d\geq 2$ and discrete Heisenberg groups.
The ergodic theorems of Hopf, Wiener and Birkhoff were extended to the context of Riesz spaces with a weak order unit and conditional expectation operator by Kuo, Labuschagne and Watson in [Ergodic Theory and the Strong Law of Large Numbers on Riesz Spaces. Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 325,(2007), 422-437.]. However, the precise concept of what constitutes ergodicity in Riesz spaces was not considered. In this short paper we fill in this omission and give some explanations of the choices made. In addition, we consider the interplay between mixing and ergodicity in the Rie…
Examining multiple ergodic averages whose iterates are integer parts of real valued polynomials for totally ergodic systems, we provide various characterizations of total joint ergodicity, meaning that an average converges to the "expected" limit along every arithmetic progression. In particular, we obtain a complete characterization when the number of iterates is at most two, and disprove a conjecture of the first author. We also improve a result of Frantzikinakis on joint ergodicity of Hardy field functions of at most polynomial growth for totally ergodic systems, which extends a conjecture …
In this paper, the power boundedness and mean ergodicity of multiplication operators are investigated on the Bloch space B, the little Bloch space B0 and the Besov Space Bp. We completely characterize power bounded, mean ergodic and uniformly mean ergodic multiplication operators on B and B0.
We extend the theory of ergodic optimization and maximizing measures to the non-commutative field of C*-dynamical systems. We then employ this ergodic optimization machinery to provide an alternate characterization of unique erogdicity of C*-dynamical systems when the resident group action satisfies certain Choquet-theoretic assumptions.
