One introduces a new variational concept of solution for the stochastic differential equation $dX+A(t)X\,dt+λX\,dt=X\,dW,$ $t\in(0,T)$; $X(0)=x$ in a real Hilbert space where $A(t)=\partialφ(t)$, $t\in(0,T)$, is a maximal monotone subpotential operator in $H$ while $W$ is a Wiener process in $H$ on a probability space $\{Ω,\mathcal{F},\mathbb{P}\}$. In this new context, the solution $X=X(t,x)$ exists for each $x\in H$, is unique, and depends continuously on $x$. This functional scheme applies to a general class of stochastic PDE not covered by the classical variational existence theory ([15], [16], [17]) and, in particular, to stochastic variational inequalities and parabolic stochastic equations with general monotone nonlinearities with low or superfast growth to $+\infty$.
This paper studies a stochastic optimal control problem with state constraint, where the state equation is described by a controlled stochastic evolution equation with jumps in Hilbert Space and the control domain is assumed to be convex. By means of Ekland variational principle, combining the convex variation method and the duality technique, necessary conditions for optimality are derived in the form of stochastic maximum principles.
In this work we introduce a theory of stochastic integration for operator-valued integrands with respect to some classes of cylindrical martingale-valued measures in Hilbert spaces. The integral is constructed via the radonification of cylindrical martingales by a Hilbert-Schmidt operator theorem and unifies several other theories of stochastic integration in Hilbert spaces. In particular, our theory covers the theory of stochastic integration with respect to a Hilbert space valued Lévy process (which is not required to satisfy any moment condition), with respect to a cylindrical Lévy processe…
We extend the Heston stochastic volatility model to a Hilbert space framework. The tensor Heston stochastic variance process is defined as a tensor product of a Hilbert-valued Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with itself. The volatility process is then defined by a Cholesky decomposition of the variance process. We define a Hilbert-valued Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with Wiener noise perturbed by this stochastic volatility, and compute the characteristic functional and covariance operator of this process. This process is then applied to the modelling of forward curves in energy markets. Finally, we c…
We prove a Freidlin-Wentzell result for stochastic differential equations in infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces perturbed by a cylindrical Wiener process. We do not assume the drift to be Lipschitz continuous, but only continuous with at most linear growth. Our result applies, in particular, to a large class of nonlinear fractional diffusion equations perturbed by a space-time white noise.
In this paper, we consider stationarity of a class of second-order stochastic evolution equations with memory, driven by Wiener processes or Levy jump processes, in Hilbert spaces. The strategy is to formulate by reduction some first-order systems in connection with the stochastic equations under investigation. We develop asymptotic behavior of dissipative second-order equations and then apply them to time delay systems through Gearhart-Pruss-Greiner's theorem. The stationary distribution of the system under consideration is the projection on the first coordinate of the corresponding stationar…
In the paper, effective filtering for a type of slow-fast data assimilation systems in Hilbert spaces is considered. Firstly, the system is reduced to a system on a random invariant manifold. Secondly, nonlinear filtering of the origin system can be approximated by that of the reduction system. Finally, we apply the obtained result to an example.
We here consider optimal control problems governed by nonlinear stochastic equations on a Hilbert space H with nonconvex payoff, which is rewritten as a deterministic optimal control problem governed by a Kolmogorov equation in H. We prove the existence and first-order necessary condition of closed loop optimal controls for the above control problem. The strategy is based on solving a deterministic bilinear optimal control problem for the corresponding Kolmogorov equation on the space $L^2(H,ν)$, where $ν$ is the related infinitesimally invariant measure for the Kolmogorov operator.
We show that the centered discrete Hilbert transform on integers applied to a function can be written as the conditional expectation of a transform of stochastic integrals, where the stochastic processes considered have jump components. The stochastic representation of the function and that of its Hilbert transform are under differential subordination and orthogonality relation with respect to the sharp bracket of quadratic covariation. This illustrates the Cauchy Riemann relations of analytic functions in this setting. This result is inspired by the seminal work of Gundy and Varopoulos on sto…
Based on a recent result on characterising the path-independence of the Girsanov transformation for non-Lipschnitz stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with jumps on $R^d$, in this paper, we extend our consideration of characterising the path-indpendent property from finite-dimensional SDEs with jumps to stochastic evolution equations with jumps in Hilbert spaces. This is done via Galerkin type finite-dimensional approximations of the infinite-dimensional stochastic evolution equations with jumps in the manner that one could then link the characterisation of the path-independence for finit…
We derive the (d-dimensional) periodic incompressible and viscous Camassa-Holm equation as well as the Leray-alpha equations via a stochastic variational principle. We discuss the existence of solution for this equation in the space H1 using the probabilistic characterisation. The underlying Lagrangian flows are diffusion processes living in the group of diffeomorphisms of the torus. We study in detail these diffusions.
This paper focuses on the time-changed Q-Wiener process, a Hilbert space-valued sub-diffusion. It is a martingale with respect to an appropriate filtration, hence a stochastic integral with respect to it is definable. For the resulting integral, two change of variables formulas are derived. Via a duality theorem for integrals, existence and uniqueness theorems for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by the time-changed Q-Wiener process are discussed. Associated fractional Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations are derived using either a time-changed Itô formula or duality. Connections …
In this article, the existence of a unique solution in the variational approach of the stochastic evolution equation $$\dX(t) = F(X(t)) \dt + G(X(t)) \dL(t)$$ driven by a cylindrical Lévy process $L$ is established. The coefficients $F$ and $G$ are assumed to satisfy the usual monotonicity and coercivity conditions. The noise is modelled by a cylindrical Lévy processes which is assumed to belong to a certain subclass of cylindrical Lévy processes and may not have finite moments.
In this work we study the long time behavior of nonlinear stochastic functional-differential equations in Hilbert spaces. In particular, we start with establishing the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions. We proceed with deriving a priory uniform in time bounds for the solutions in the appropriate Hilbert spaces. These bounds enable us to establish the existence of invariant measure based on Krylov-Bogoliubov theorem on the tightness of the family of measures. Finally, under certain assumptions on nonlinearities, we establish the uniqueness of invariant measures.
In this paper, we introduce and study a stochastic differential variational inequality (SDVI) which consists of a stochastic differential equation and a stochastic variational inequality. We obtain the existence and uniqueness of the solutions for SDVI by using the iteration method and Gronwall's inequality. Moreover, we show the convergence of Euler scheme for solving SDVI under some mild conditions. Finally, we apply the obtained results to solve the electrical circuits with diodes and the collapse of the bridge problems in stochastic environment.
We present a new proof of well-posedness of stochastic evolution equations in variational form, relying solely on a (nonlinear) infinite-dimensional approximation procedure rather than on classical finite-dimensional projection arguments of Galerkin type.
In this paper we show that Hilbert space-valued stochastic models are robust with respect to perturbation, due to measurement or approximation errors, in the underlying volatility process. Within the class of stochastic volatility modulated Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, we quantify the error induced by the volatility in terms of perturbations in the parameters of the volatility process. We moreover study the robustness of the volatility process itself with respect to finite dimensional approximations of the driving compound Poisson process and semigroup generator respectively, when considering…
This paper studies a system of $m$ variational inequalities with interconnected obstacles in infinite horizon associated to optimal multi-modes switching problems. Our main result is the existence and uniqueness of a continuous solution in viscosity sense, for that system. The proof of the main result strongly relies on the connection between the systems of variational inequalities and reflected backward stochastic differential equations (RBSDEs) with oblique reflection, which will be characterized through a Feynman-Kac's formula. The main feature of our system of infinite horizon RBSDEs is th…
This paper provides a unifying theoretical framework for stochastic optimization algorithms by means of a latent stochastic variational problem. Using techniques from stochastic control, the solution to the variational problem is shown to be equivalent to that of a Forward Backward Stochastic Differential Equation (FBSDE). By solving these equations, we recover a variety of existing adaptive stochastic gradient descent methods. This framework establishes a direct connection between stochastic optimization algorithms and a secondary Bayesian inference problem on gradients, where a prior measure…
By way of concrete presentations, we construct two infinite-dimensional transforms at the crossroads of Gaussian fields and reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHS), thus leading to a new infinite-dimensional Fourier transform in a general setting of Gaussian processes. Our results serve to unify existing tools from infinite-dimensional analysis.
In this work we recast the collisional Vlasov-Maxwell and Vlasov-Poisson equations as systems of coupled stochastic and partial differential equations, and we derive stochastic variational principles which underlie such reformulations. We also propose a stochastic particle method for the collisional Vlasov-Maxwell equations and provide a variational characterization of it, which can be used as a basis for a further development of stochastic structure-preserving particle-in-cell integrators.
This work employs variational techniques to revisit and expand the construction and analysis of extreme value processes. These techniques permit a novel study of spatial statistics of the location of minimizing events. We develop integral formulas for computing statistics of spatially-biased extremal events, and show that they are analogous to stochastic integrals in the setting of standard stochastic processes. We also establish an asymptotic result in the spirit of the Fisher-Tippett-Gnedenko theory for a broader class of extremal events and discuss some applications of our results.
This article generalises the concept of realised covariation to Hilbert-space-valued stochastic processes. More precisely, based on high-frequency functional data, we construct an estimator of the trace-class operator-valued integrated volatility process arising in general mild solutions of Hilbert space-valued stochastic evolution equations in the sense of Da Prato and Zabczyk (2014). We prove a weak law of large numbers for this estimator, where the convergence is uniform on compacts in probability with respect to the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. In addition, we show that the conditions on the vola…
Stochastic evolution equations with compensated Poisson noise are considered in the variational approach with monotone and coercive coefficients. Here the Poisson noise is assumed to be time-homogeneous with $σ$-finite intensity measure on a metric space. By using finite element methods and Galerkin approximations, some explicit and implicit discretizations for this equation are presented and their convergence is proved. Polynomial growth condition and linear growth condition are assumed on the drift operator, respectively for the implicit and explicit schemes.
