In this article we characterize all possible cases that may occur in the relations between the sets of $p$ for which weak type $(p,p)$ and strong type $(p,p)$ inequalities for the Hardy--Littlewood maximal operators, both centered and non-centered, hold in the context of general metric measure spaces.
In this article we study a special class of non-doubling metric measure spaces for which there is a significant difference between the incidence of weak and restricted weak type $(p,p)$ inequalities for the centered and non-centered Hardy--Littlewood maximal operators, $M^c$ and $M$. As a corollary we extend the result obtained in [2].
In this article we investigate a special class of non-doubling metric measure spaces in order to describe the possible configurations of $P_{k,\rm s}^{\rm c}$, $P_{k,\rm s}$, $P_{k,\rm w}^{\rm c}$ and $P_{k,\rm w}$, the sets of all $p \in [1, \infty]$ for which the weak and strong type $(p,p)$ inequalities hold for the centered and non-centered modified Hardy--Littlewood maximal operators, $M^{\rm c}_k$ and $M_k$, $k \geq 1$. For any fixed $k$ we describe the necessary conditions that $P_{k,\rm s}^{\rm c}$, $P_{k,\rm s}$, $P_{k,\rm w}^{\rm c}$ and $P_{k,\rm w}$ must satisfy in general and illu…
We characterize two-weight inequalities for certain maximal truncations of the Hilbert transform in terms of testing conditions on simpler functions. For 1<p<2 and two positive Borel measures u, v on R, we assume that u is doubling, and we consider maximal truncations T_# of the Hilbert transform. The norm estimate || T(f u) ||_{L^p(v)} < C || f ||_{L^p(u)} is characterized in terms of an A_p condition on the weights and two testing conditions. The first is the norm condition above, but the function f varies over bounded functions supported on a cube. The second is a dual weak-type condition, …
We study mapping properties of the centered Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator $\mathcal{M}$ acting on Lorentz spaces $L^{p,q}(\mathfrak{X})$ in the context of certain non-doubling metric measure spaces $\mathfrak{X}$. The special class of spaces for which these properties are very peculiar is introduced and many examples are given. In particular, for each $p_0, q_0, r_0 \in (1, \infty)$ with $r_0 \geq q_0$ we construct a space $\mathfrak{X}$ for which the associated operator $\mathcal{M}$ is bounded from $L^{p_0,q_0}(\mathfrak{X})$ to $L^{p_0,r}(\mathfrak{X})$ if and only if $r \geq r_0$.
For the maximal operator $ M $ on $ \mathbb R ^{d}$, and $ 1< p , ρ< \infty $, there is a finite constant $ D = D _{p, ρ}$ so that this holds. For all weights $ w, σ$ on $ \mathbb R ^{d}$, the operator $ M (σ\cdot )$ is bounded from $ L ^{p} (σ) \to L ^{p} (w)$ if and only the pair of weights $ (w, σ)$ satisfy the two weight $ A _{p}$ condition, and this testing inequality holds: \begin{equation*} \int _{Q} M (σ\mathbf 1_{Q} ) ^{p} \; d w \lesssim σ( Q), \end{equation*} for all cubes $ Q$ for which there is a cube $ P \supset Q$ satisfying $ σ(P) < D σ(Q)$, and $ \ell P = ρ\ell Q$. This was re…
In this paper we develop a kind of A_p theory for Calderon-Zygmund operators in a non-homogeneous setting. Let μbe a Borel measure on \R^d which may be non doubling. The only condition that μmust satisfy is μ(B(x,r))\leq Cr^n for all x\in\R^d, r>0 and for some fixed n with 0<n\leq d. We introduce a maximal operator N, which coincides with the maximal Hardy-Littlewood operator if μ(B(x,r))\approx r^n for x\in\supp(μ), and we show that all n-dimensional Calderon-Zygmund operators are bounded on L^p(w dμ) if and only if N is bounded on L^p(w dμ), for a fixed p\in(1,\infty). Also, we prove that th…
We investigate a dichotomy property for Hardy--Littlewood maximal operators, non-centered $M$ and centered $M^c$, that was noticed by Bennett, DeVore and Sharpley. We illustrate the full spectrum of possible cases related to the occurrence or not of this property for $M$ and $M^c$ in the context of non-doubling metric measure spaces $(X, ρ, μ)$. In addition, if $X = \mathbb{R}^d$, $d \geq 1$, and $ρ$ is the metric induced by an arbitrary norm on $\mathbb{R}^d$, then we give the exact characterization (in terms of $μ$) of situations in which $M^c$ possesses the dichotomy property provided that …
Let $μ$ be a Radon measure on $R^d$, which may be non doubling. The only condition that $μ$ must satisfy is $μ(B(x,r))\leq C r^n$, for all $x,r$ and for some fixed $0<n\leq d$. Recently we introduced spaces of type $BMO(μ)$ and $H^1(μ)$ which proved to be useful to study the $L^p(μ)$ boundedness of Calderón-Zygmund operators without assuming doubling conditions. In this paper a characterization of the new atomic space $H^1(μ)$ in terms of a grand maximal operator $M_Φ$ is given. It is shown that $f$ belongs to $H^1(μ)$ iff $f\in L^1(μ)$, $\int f dμ=0$ and $M_Φ(f)\in L^1(μ)$, as in the usual do…
We obtain improved fractional Poincaré inequalities in John domains of a metric space $(X, d)$ endowed with a doubling measure $μ$ under some mild regularity conditions on the measure $μ$. We also give sufficient conditions on a bounded domain to support fractional Poincaré type inequalities in this setting.
The Fefferman-Stein type inequalities for strong maximal operator and directional maximal operator are verified with composition of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator in the plane.
In this work we give some maximal inequalities in Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, which are "$\dot{F}_{\infty}^{s,q}$-variants" of Fefferman-Stein vector-valued maximal inequality and Peetre's maximal inequality. We will give some applications of the new maximal inequalities and discuss sharpness of some results.
In this paper we establish new optimal bounds for the derivative of some discrete maximal functions, both in the centered and uncentered versions. In particular, we solve a question originally posed by Bober, Carneiro, Hughes and Pierce.
In this paper, we study the weighted inequality for multilinear fractional maximal operators and fractional integrals. We give sharp weighted estimates for both operators.
This paper studies the following weighted, fractional Bernstein inequality for spherical polynomials on $\sph$: \begin{equation}\label{4-1-TD-ab} \|(-Δ_0)^{r/2} f\|_{p,w}\leq C_w n^{r} \|f\|_{p,w}, \ \ \forall f\in Π_n^d, \end{equation} where $Π_n^d$ denotes the space of all spherical polynomials of degree at most $n$ on $\sph$, and $(-Δ_0)^{r/2}$ is the fractional Laplacian-Beltrami operator on $\sph$. A new class of doubling weights with conditions weaker than the $A_p$ is introduced, and used to fully characterize those doubling weights $w$ on $\sph$ for which the weighted Bernstein inequal…
In this note, we provide various two-weight norm estimates of the multi-linear fractional maximal function and weighted maximal function between different Orlicz spaces. More precisely, we obtain Sawyer-type characterizations and norm estimates for these operators.
In this article, we establish the Fefferman-Stein inequalities for the Dunkl maximal operator associated with a finite reflection group generated by the sign changes. Similar results are also given for a large class of operators related to Dunkl's analysis.
In this article we introduce the fractional Hardy-Littlewood maximal function on the infinite rooted $k$-ary tree and study its weighted boundedness. We also provide examples of weights for which the fractional Hardy-Littlewood maximal function satisfies strong type $(p, q)$ estimates on the infinite rooted $k$-ary tree.
We devote this note to correct an estimate concerning mixed inequalities for the generalized maximal function $M_Φ$, when certain properties of the associated Young function $Φ$ are assumed. Although the obtained estimates turn out to be slightly different, they are good extensions of mixed inequalities for the classical Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions $M_r$, with $r\geq 1$. They also allow us to obtain mixed estimates for the generalized fractional maximal operator $M_{γ,Φ}$, when $0<γ<n$ and $Φ$ is an $L\log L$ type function.
In this paper, we will introduce and study several types of Kakeya inequalities by the maximal functions in Hardy spaces in $\RR^n$,\,$(n\geq2)$, and we could obtain several inequalities associated with the Kakeya inequalities. We will show that $\big\|M^t_{δS_{α,β}} f \big\|_p\lesssim_{p,n,φ,\varepsilon}\left(\frac{1}δ\right)^{5\left(\frac{n}{r}+2\right)\varepsilon}\big\|f\big\|_p$, when $f(x)\in L^p(\RR^n)$ and $supp\,\hat{f}(ξ)\subseteq B(0,1)$.
For a local maximal function defined on a certain family of cubes lying ``well inside'' of $Ω$, a proper open subset of $\mathbb R ^n$, we characterize the couple of weights $(u,v)$ for which it is bounded from $L^p(v)$ on $L^q(u)$.
In this paper we prove and discuss some new $\left(H_{p},L_{p}\right)$ type inequalities of maximal operators of Vilenkin-Nörlund means with non-decreasing coefficients. We also apply these inequalities to prove strong convergence theorems of such Vilenkin-Nörlund means. These inequalities are the best possible in a special sense. As applications, both some well-known and new results are pointed out.
We prove that if $f:I\subset \Bbb R\to \Bbb R$ is of bounded variation, then the noncentered maximal function $Mf$ is absolutely continuous, and its derivative satisfies the sharp inequality $\|DMf\|_1\le |Df|(I)$. This allows us obtain, under less regularity, versions of classical inequalities involving derivatives.
We give weighted norm inequalities for the maximal fractional operator $ \mathcal M_{q,β}$ of Hardy-Littlewood and the fractional integral $I_γ$. These inequalities are established between $(L^{q},L^{p}) ^α(X,d,μ)$ spaces (which are super spaces of Lebesgue spaces $L^α(X,d,μ)$, and subspaces of amalgams $(L^{q},L^{p})(X,d,μ)$) and in the setting of space of homogeneous type $(X,d,μ)$. The conditions on the weights are stated in terms of Orlicz norm.
We study generalized Poincaré inequalities. We prove that if a function satisfies a suitable inequality of Poincaré type, then the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function also obeys a meaningful estimate of similar form. As a by-product, we get a unified approach to proving that the maximal operator is bounded on Sobolev, Lipschitz and BMO spaces.
In this paper we prove and discuss some new $\left( H_{p},L_{p}\right)$ type inequalities of maximal operators of $T$ means with respect to the Vilenkin systems with monotone coefficients. We also apply these inequalities to prove strong convergence theorems of such $T$ means. We also show that these results are the best possible in a special sense. As applications, both some well-known and new results are pointed out.
We explore the consequences for the boundedness properties of averaging and maximal averaging operators, of the following local comparabiliity condition for measures: Intersecting balls of the same radius have comparable sizes. Since in geometrically doubling spaces this property yields the same results as doubling, we study under which circumstances it is equivalent to the latter condition, and when it is more general. We also study the concrete case of the standard gaussian measure, where this property fails, but nevertheles averaging operators are uniformly bounded, with respect to the radi…
Given a space of homogeneous type $(X,μ,d)$, we prove strong-type weighted norm inequalities for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator over the variable exponent Lebesgue spaces $L^\pp$. We prove that the variable Muckenhoupt condition $\App$ is necessary and sufficient for the strong type inequality if $\pp$ satisfies log-Hölder continuity conditions and $1 < p_- \leq p_+ < \infty$. Our results generalize to spaces of homogeneous type the analogous results in Euclidean space proved by Cruz-Uribe, Fiorenza and Neugebuaer (2012).
We discuss $(H_p,L_p)$ and $(H_p,\text{weak}-L_p)$ type inequalities of weighted maximal operators of $T$ means with respect to the Vilenkin systems with monotone coefficients, considered in \cite{tut4} and prove that these results are the best possible in a special sense. As applications, both some well-known and new results are pointed out.
We establish general weighted $L^2$ inequalities for pseudodifferential operators associated to the Hörmander symbol classes $S^m_{ρ,δ}$. Such inequalities allow to control these operators by fractional "non-tangential" maximal functions, and subsume the optimal range of Lebesgue space bounds for pseudodifferential operators. As a corollary, several known Muckenhoupt type bounds are recovered, and new bounds for weights lying in the intersection of the Muckenhoupt and reverse Hölder classes are obtained. The proof relies on a subdyadic decomposition of the frequency space, together with applic…
We consider L^p two weight inequalities for maximal truncations of dyadic Calderon-Zygmund operators. In the case of one weight being doubling, a characterization is given, and for the general case, sufficient conditions are given, including standard and non-standard testing conditions. The arguments of this paper parallel the authors prior work arXiv:0805.4711, but in this paper are much easier.
In the recent paper [J. Funct. Anal. {\bf 259} (2010)], Naor and Tao introduce a new class of measures with a so-called micro-doubling property and present, via martingale theory and probability methods, a localization theorem for the associated maximal functions. As a consequence they obtain a weak type estimate in a general abstract setting for these maximal functions that is reminiscent of the `$n\log n$ result' of Stein and Strömberg in Euclidean spaces. The purpose of this work is twofold. First we introduce a new localization principle that localizes not only in the time-dilation paramet…
We extend the theory of weighted norm inequalities on variable Lebesgue spaces to the case of bilinear operators. We introduce a bilinear version of the variable $\A_\pp$ condition, and show that it is necessary and sufficient for the bilinear maximal operator to satisfy a weighted norm inequality. Our work generalizes the linear results of the first author, Fiorenza and Neugebauer \cite{dcu-f-nPreprint2010} in the variable Lebesgue spaces and the bilinear results of Lerner {\em et al.} \cite{MR2483720} in the classical Lebesgue spaces. As an application we prove weighted norm inequalities for…
In this note we describe some recent advances in the area of maximal function inequalities. We also study the behaviour of the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator associated to certain families of doubling, radial decreasing measures, and acting on radial functions. In fact, we precisely determine when the weak type $(1,1)$ bounds are uniform in the dimension.
In this paper we prove sharp $L^\infty$-$L^\infty$-$L^\infty$ decay for certain trilinear oscillatory integral forms of convolution type on $\mathbb R^2$. These estimates imply earlier $L^2$-$L^2$-$L^2$ results obtained by the second author as well as corresponding sharp, stable sublevel set estimates of the form studied by Christ and Christ, Li, Tao, and Thiele. New connections to the multilinear results of Phong, Stein, and Sturm are also considered.
In this work we obtain boundedness on weighted variable Lebesgue spaces of some maximal functions that come from the localized analysis considering a critical radius function. This analysis appears naturally in the context of the Schrödinger operator $\mathcal{L}=-Δ+V$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$, where $V$ a non-negative potential satisfying some specific reverse Hölder condition. We consider new classes of weights that locally behave as the Muckenhoupt class for Lebesgue spaces with variable exponents considered in Cruz Uribe et al. (J. Math. Anal. Appl. 394(2):744-760, 2012) and actually include them…
The aim of this paper is to show that the discrete maximal function $$\mathcal{M}_{h}f(x)=\sup_{N\in\mathbb{N}}\frac{1}{|\mathbf{N}_{h}\cap[1, N]|}\Big|\sum_{n\in \mathbf{N}_{h}\cap[1, N]}f(x-n)\Big|,\ \ \mbox{for $x\in\mathbb{Z}$},$$ is of weak type $(1, 1)$, where $\mathbf{N}_{h}=\{n\in\mathbb{N}: \exists_{m\in\mathbb{N}}\ n=\lfloor h(m)\rfloor\}$ for an appropriate function $h$. As a consequence we also obtain pointwise ergodic theorem along the set $\mathbf{N}_{h}$.
Restricted testing conditions were considered recently. For the maximal operator, Li and Sawyer first obtained parental testing condition. Later, they showed that it suffices to restrict testing to doubling cubes. Chen and Lacey gave a similar restricted testing condition. In our paper, we discuss a version of the latter in the multilinear setting.
We prove fractional Sobolev-Poincaré inequalities, capacitary versions of fractional Poincaré inequalities, and pointwise and localized fractional Hardy inequalities in a metric space equipped with a doubling measure. Our results generalize and extend earlier work where such inequalities have been considered in the Euclidean spaces or in the non-fractional setting in metric spaces. The results concerning pointwise and localized variants of fractional Hardy inequalities are new even in the Euclidean case.
Our main result is an estimate for a sharp maximal function, which implies a Keith-Zhong type self-improvement property of Poincaré inequalities related to differentiable structures on metric measure spaces. As an application, we give structure independent representation for Sobolev norms and universality results for Sobolev spaces.
The paper concerns the magnetic Schrödinger operator on $R^n$. Under certain conditions, given in terms of the reverse Hölder inequality on the magnetic field and the electric potential, we prove some $L^p$ estimates on the Riesz transforms and we establish some related maximal inequalities.
The paper concerns the magnetic Schrödinger operator on $R^n$. We prove some $L^p$ estimates on the Riesz transforms and we establish some related maximal inequalities. The conditions that we arrive at, are essentially based on the control of the magnetic field by the electric potential.
We prove generalizations of the Poincare and logarithmic Sobolev inequalities corresponding to the case of fractional derivatives in measure spaces with only a minimal amount of geometric structure. The class of such spaces includes (but is not limited to) spaces of homogeneous type with doubling measures. Several examples and applications are given, including Poincare inequalities for graph Laplacians, Fractional Poincare inequalities of Mouhot, Russ, and Sire [16], and implications for recent work of the author and R. M. Strain on the Boltzmann collision operator [10, 11, 9].
We firstly describe a maximal inequality for dual Sobolev spaces W^{-1,p}. This one corresponds to a "Sobolev version" of usual properties of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator in Lebesgue spaces. Even in the euclidean space, this one seems to be new and we develop arguments in the general framework of Riemannian manifold. Then we present an application to obtain interpolation results for Sobolev spaces.
We show various $L^p$ estimates for Schrödinger operators $-Δ+V$ on $\RR^n$ and their square roots. We assume reverse Hölder estimates on the potential, and improve some results of Shen \cite{Sh1}. Our main tools are improved Fefferman-Phong inequalities and reverse Hölder estimates for weak solutions of $-Δ+V$ and their gradients.
The aim of this paper is to study two-weight norm inequalities for fractional maximal functions and fractional Bergman operator defined on the upper-half space. Namely, we characterize those pairs of weights for which these maximal operators satisfy strong and weak type inequalities. Our characterizations are in terms of Sawyer and Békollé-Bonami type conditions. We also obtain a $Φ$-bump characterization for these maximal functions, where $Φ$ is a Orlicz function. As a consequence, we obtain two-weight norm inequalities for fractional Bergman operators. Finally, we provide some sharp weighted…
