Given a reductive group G, Kostant and Kumar defined a nil Hecke algebra that may be viewed as a degenerate version of the double affine nil Hecke algebra introduced by Cherednik. In this paper, we construct an isomorphism of the spherical subalgebra of the nil Hecke algebra with a Whittaker type quantum Hamiltonian reduction of the algebra of differential operators on G. This result has an interpretation in terms of the geometric Satake and the Langlands dual group. Specifically, the isomorphism provides a bridge between very differently looking descriptions of equivariant Borel-Moore homology of the affine flag variety (due to Kostant and Kumar) and of the affine Grassmannian (due to Bezrukavnikov and Finkelberg), respectively.
It follows from our result that the category of Whittaker D-modules on G considered by Drinfeld is equivalent to the category of holonomic modules over the nil Hecke algebra, and it is also equivalent to a certain subcategory of the category of Weyl group equivariant holonomic D-modules on the maximal torus.
This paper gives the classification of the Whittaker unitary dual for affine graded Hecke algebras of type E. By the Iwahori-Matsumoto involution, this is equivalent also to the classification of the spherical unitary dual for type E. This work completes the classification of the Whittaker Iwahori-spherical unitary dual, or equivalently, the spherical unitary dual, of split linear algebraic p-adic groups.
We prove that cuspidal automorphic D-modules have non-vanishing Whittaker coefficients, generalizing known results in the geometric Langlands program from GL_n to general reductive groups. The key tool is a microlocal interpretation of Whittaker coefficients. We establish various exactness properties in the geometric Langlands context that may be of independent interest. Specifically, we show Hecke functors are t-exact on the category of tempered D-modules, strengthening a classical result of Gaitsgory (with different hypotheses) for GL_n. We also show that Whittaker coefficient functors are t…
We consider a natural basis of the Iwahori fixed vectors in the Whittaker model of an unramified principal series representation of a split semisimple p- adic group, indexed by the Weyl group. We show that the elements of this basis may be computed from one another by applying Demazure-Lusztig operators. The precise identities involve correction terms, which may be calculated by a combinatorial algorithm that is identical to the computation of the fibers of the Bott-Samelson resolution of a Schubert variety. The Demazure-Lusztig operators satisfy the braid and quadratic relations satisfied by …
In this paper we construct a family of exact functors from the category of Whittaker modules of the simple complex Lie algebra of type $A_n$ to the category of finite-dimensional modules of the graded affine Hecke algebra of type $A_\ell$. Using results of Backelin and of Arakawa-Suzuki, we prove that these functors map standard modules to standard modules (or zero) and simple modules to simple modules (or zero). Moreover, we show that each simple module of the graded affine Hecke algebra appears as the image of a simple Whittaker module. Since the Whittaker category contains the BGG category …
In this paper we introduce Baxter integral Q-operators for finite-dimensional Lie algebras gl(n+1) and so(2n+1). Whittaker functions corresponding to these algebras are eigenfunctions of the Q-operators with the eigenvalues expressed in terms of Gamma-functions. The appearance of the Gamma-functions is one of the manifestations of an interesting connection between Mellin-Barnes and Givental integral representations of Whittaker functions, which are in a sense dual to each other. We define a dual Baxter operator and derive a family of mixed Mellin-Barnes-Givental integral representations. Given…
We present a new framework for a broad class of affine Hecke algebra modules, and show that such modules arise in a number of settings involving representations of $p$-adic groups and $R$-matrices for quantum groups. Instances of such modules arise from (possibly non-unique) functionals on $p$-adic groups and their metaplectic covers, such as the Whittaker functionals. As a byproduct, we obtain new, algebraic proofs of a number of results concerning metaplectic Whittaker functions. These are thus expressed in terms of metaplectic versions of Demazure operators, which are built out of $R$-matri…
In a previous article we have defined an action of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of a Coxeter group W on a free module with basis indexed by the involutions in W. In this paper we show that the specialization of this action at the parameter 0 has a simple description.
This work, to be published in Transformation Groups in two parts, is devoted to the theory of nil-DAHA for the root system A_1 and its applications to symmetric and nonsymmetric (spinor) global q-Whittaker functions. These functions integrate the q-Toda eigenvalue problem and its Dunkl-type nonsymmetric version. The global symmetric function can be interpreted as the generating function of the Demazure characters for dominant weights, which describe the algebraic-geometric properties of the corresponding affine Schubert varieties. Its Harish-Chandra-type asymptotic expansion appeared directly …
For a real reductive linear Lie group G, the space of Whittaker functions is the representation space induced from a non-degenerate unitary character of the Iwasawa nilpotent subgroup. Defined are the standard Whittaker (g,K)-modules, which are K-admissible submodules of the space of Whittaker functions. We first determine the structures of them when the infinitesimal characters characterizing them are generic. As an example of the integral case, we determine the composition series of the standard Whittaker (g,K)-module when G is the group U(n,1) and the infinitesimal character is regular inte…
We construct categories of Harish-Chandra bimodules for affine Lie algebras analogous to Harish-Chandra bimodules with infinitesimal characters for simple Lie algebras, addressing an old problem raised by I. Frenkel and Malikov. Under an integrality hypothesis, we establish monoidal equivalences between blocks of our affine Harish-Chandra bimodules and versions of the affine Hecke category. To do so, we introduce a new singular localization onto Whittaker flag manifolds. The argument for the latter specializes to a somewhat alternative treatment of regular localization, and identifies the cate…
Let $G$ be a compact, connected Lie group and $T \subset G$ a maximal torus. Let $(M,ω)$ be a monotone closed symplectic manifold equipped with a Hamiltonian action of $G$. We construct a module action of the affine nil-Hecke algebra $\hat{H}_*^{S^1 \times T}(LG/T)$ on the $S^1 \times T$-equivariant quantum cohomology of $M$, $QH^*_{S^1 \times T}(M).$ Our construction generalizes the theory of shift operators for Hamiltonian torus actions [OP,LJ]. We show that, as in the abelian case, this action behaves well with respect to the quantum connection. As an application of our construction, we sho…
We study a category of Whittaker modules over a complex semisimple Lie algebra by realizing it as a category of twisted D-modules on the associated flag variety using Beilinson-Bernstein localization. The main result of this paper is the development of a geometric algorithm for computing the composition multiplicities of standard Whittaker modules. This algorithm establishes that these multiplicities are determined by a collection of polynomials we refer to as Whittaker Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. In the case of trivial nilpotent character, this algorithm specializes to the usual algorithm fo…
Let $F$ be either $\mathbb{R}$ or a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$, and let $G$ be a finite central extension of the group of $F$-points of a reductive group defined over $F$. Also let $π$ be a smooth representation of $G$ (Frechet of moderate growth if $F=\mathbb{R}$). For each nilpotent orbit $\mathcal{O}$ we consider a certain Whittaker quotient $π_{\mathcal{O}}$ of $π$. We define the Whittaker support WS$(π)$ to be the set of maximal $\mathcal{O}$ among those for which $π_{\mathcal{O}}\neq 0$. In this paper we prove that all $\mathcal{O}\in\mathrm{WS}(π)$ are quasi-admissible nilpotent…
We show that, for an arbitrary quasi-reductive Lie superalgebra with a triangular decomposition and a character $ζ$ of the nilpotent radical, the associated Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ sends Verma modules to standard Whittaker modules provided the latter exist. As a consequence, this gives a complete solution to the problem of determining the composition factors of the standard Whittaker modules in terms of composition factors of Verma modules in the category $\mathcal O$. In the case of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras, we show that the Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ and its target category, respect…
For Iwahori-spherical representations of non-Archimedean general linear groups, Chan-Savin recently expressed the Whittaker functor as a restriction to an isotypic component of a finite Iwahori-Hecke algebra module. We generalize this method to describe principal degenerate Whittaker functors. Concurrently, we view Murnaghan's formula for the Harish-Chandra--Howe character as a Grothendieck group expansion of the same module. Comparing the two approaches through the lens of Zelevinsky's PSH-algebras, we obtain an explicit unitriangular transition matrix between coefficients of the character ex…
Let $G$ be a reductive group over a local field $F$ of characteristic zero, Archimedean or not. Let $X$ be a $G$-space. In this paper we study the existence of generalized Whittaker quotients for the space of Schwartz functions on $X$, considered as a representation of $G$. We show that the set of nilpotent elements of the dual space to the Lie algebra such that the corresponding generalized Whittaker quotient does not vanish contains the nilpotent part of the image of the moment map, and lies in the closure of this image. This generalizes recent results of Prasad and Sakellaridis. Applying ou…
We give a basis for the Hochschild cohomology ring of tame Hecke algebras. We then show that the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence is a finitely generated algebra of Krull dimension 2, and describe the support varieties of modules for these algebras. As a consequence we obtain the result that the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence of a Hecke algebra has Krull dimension 1 if the algebra is of finite type and has Krull dimension 2 if the algebra is of tame type.
In 1978 Kostant suggested the Whittaker model of the center of the universal enveloping algebra U(g) of a complex simple Lie algebra g. The main result is that the center of U(g) is isomorphic to a commutative subalgebra in U(b), where b is a Borel subalgebra in g. This observation is used in the theory of principal series representations of the corresponding Lie group G and in the proof of complete integrability of the quantum Toda lattice. In this paper we generalize the Kostant's construction to quantum groups. In our construction we use quantum analogues of regular nilpotent elements defin…
Let $W_{m|n}$ be the (finite) $W$-algebra attached to the principal nilpotent orbit in the general linear Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n}(\mathbb{C})$. In this paper we study the {\em Whittaker coinvariants functor}, which is an exact functor from category $\mathcal O$ for $\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n}(\mathbb{C})$ to a certain category of finite-dimensional modules over $W_{m|n}$. We show that this functor has properties similar to Soergel's functor $\mathbb V$ in the setting of category $\mathcal O$ for a semisimple Lie algebra. We also use it to compute the center of $W_{m|n}$ explicitly, and …
Associated to every complex reflection group, we construct a lattice of quotients of its braid monoid-algebra, which we term nil-Hecke algebras, and which are obtained by killing all braid words that are "sufficiently long", as well as some integer power of each generator. These include usual nil-Coxeter algebras, nil-Temperley-Lieb algebras, and their variants, and lead to symmetric semigroup module categories which necessarily cannot be monoidal. Motivated by classical work of Coxeter (1957) and the Broue-Malle-Rouquier freeness conjecture [Crelle 1998], and continuing beyond work of the sec…
We investigate Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on split simply-laced Lie groups G. We show that for automorphic representations of small Gelfand-Kirillov dimension the Fourier coefficients are completely determined by certain degenerate Whittaker vectors on G. Although we expect our results to hold for arbitrary simply-laced groups, we give complete proofs only for G=SL(3) and G=SL(4). This is based on a method of Ginzburg that associates Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms with nilpotent orbits of G. Our results complement and extend recent results of Miller and Sahi. We also …
For any $n\in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 2}$, let $\mathfrak{m}_n$ be the subalgebra of $\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$ spanned by all long negative root vectors $X_{-2ε_i}$, $i=1,\dots,n$. An $\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$-module $M$ is called a Whittaker module with respect to the Whittaker pair $(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n},\mathfrak{m}_n)$ if the action of $\mathfrak{m}_n$ on $M$ is locally finite, according to a definition of Batra and Mazorchuk. This kind of modules are more general than the classical Whittaker modules defined by Kostant. In this paper, we show that each non-singular block $\mathcal{WH}_{\mathbf{a}}^μ$ with fi…
We generalize the geometric construction of quiver Hecke algebras from Varagnolo and Vasserot to a setup with arbitrary connected reductive groups. This corresponds to replacing quiver representations by generalized quiver representations introduced by Derksen and Weyman. The class of algebras which we construct contains (affine) nil Hecke algebras, skew group rings of Weyl groups with polynomial rings and quiver Hecke algebras. We describe an explicit faithful representation in a polynomial ring and we calculate the generators and relations for these algebras.
We give two different approaches to classifying the simple modules of $0$-Yokonuma-Hecke algebras $Y_{r,n}(0)$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$ such that $p$ does not divide $r.$ Using the isomorphism between the $0$-Yokonuma-Hecke algebra and $0$-Ariki-Koike-Shoji algebra, we in fact give another way to obtain the simple modules of the latter, which was previously studied by Hivert, Novelli and Thibon (Adv. Math. $\bf{205}$ (2006) 504-548). In the appendix, we give the classification of simple modules of the nil Yokonuma-Hecke algebra.
We study the Iwahori-component of the Gelfand-Graev representation of a central cover of a split linear reductive group and utilize our results for three applications. In fact, it is advantageous to begin at the pro-$p$ level. Thus to begin we study the structure of a genuine pro-$p$ Iwahori-Hecke algebra, establishing Iwahori-Matsumoto and Bernstein presentations. With this structure theory we first describe the pro-$p$ part of the Gelfand-Graev representation and then the more subtle Iwahori part. For the first application we relate the Gelfand-Graev representation to the metaplectic represe…
Let $G$ be a split reductive group over a $p$-adic field $F$. Let $B$ be a Borel subgroup and $U$ the maximal unipotent subgroup of $B$. Let $ψ$ be a Whittaker character of $U$. Let $I$ be an Iwahori subgroup of $G$. We describe the Iwahori-Hecke algebra action on the Gelfand-Graev representation $(\mathrm{ind}_{U}^{G}ψ)^I$ by an explicit projective module. As a consequence, for $G=GL(n,F)$, we define and describe Bernstein-Zelevinsky derivatives of representations generated by $I$-fixed vectors in terms of the corresponding Iwahori-Hecke algebra modules. Furthermore, using Lusztig's reduction…
In this article we classify all infinitesimal Hecke algebras of so_N. We establish isomorphism of their universal versions and the W-algebras of so_{N+2m+1} with a 1-block nilpotent element of the Jordan type (1,...,1,2m+1). This should be considered as a continuation of the recent joint paper with I. Losev, where the analogous results were obtained for the cases of gl_n and sp_{2n}.
We give a presentation of localized affine and degenerate affine Hecke algebras of arbitrary type in terms of weights of the polynomial subalgebra and varied Demazure-BGG type operators. We offer a definition of a graded algebra $\mathcal{H}$ whose category of finite-dimensional ungraded nilpotent modules is equivalent to the category of finite-dimensional modules over an associated degenerate affine Hecke algebra. Moreover, unlike the traditional grading on degenerate affine Hecke algebras, this grading factors through central characters, and thus gives a grading to the irreducible representa…
According to Kazhdan-Lusztig and Ginzburg, the Hecke algebra of an affine Weyl group is identified with the equivariant $K$-group of Steinberg's triple variety. The $K$-group is equipped with a filtration indexed by closed $G$-stable subvarieties of the nilpotent variety, where $G$ is the corresponding reductive algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$. In this paper we will show in the case of type $A$ that the filtration is compatible with the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis of the Hecke algebra.
We prove that irreducible representations of the elliptic affine Hecke algebras of Ginzburg, Kapranov, and Vasserot are in one-to-one correspondence with certain nilpotent Higgs bundles on the elliptic curve. The main tool we use is the equivariant elliptic cohomology of the Steinberg variety of the Springer resolution. As a by-product, we study representations at roots of unity in type-$A$. As another by-product, we define a version of elliptic Demazure-Lusztig operators with dynamical parameters that satisfy the braid relations. We discuss speculative indications of this correspondence in 4d…
An affine Hecke algebras can be realized as an equivariant K-group of the corresponding Steinberg variety. This gives rise naturally to some two-sided ideals of the affine Hecke algebra by means of the closures of nilpotent orbits of the corresponding Lie algebra. In this paper we will show that the two-sided ideals are in fact the two-sided ideals of the affine Hecke algebra defined through two-sided cells of the corresponding affine Weyl group after the two-sided ideals are tensored by rational numbers field. This proves a weak form of a conjecture of Ginzburg proposed in 1987.
For a reductive group $G$ over a non-Archimedean local field (e.g $GL_n( \mathbb{Q}_p )$ ), Jacquet's Whittaker function is essentially proportional to a character of an irreducible representation of the Langlands dual group $G^\vee( \mathbb{C} )$ ( a Schur function if $G = GL_n( \mathbb{Q}_p )$). We propose a probabilistic approach to this claim, known as the Shintani-Casselman-Shalika formula, when the group $G$ has at least one minuscule cocharacter in the coweight lattice. Our presentation goes along the following lines. Thanks to a minuscule random walk $W^{(z)}$ on the coweight lattice a…
In this paper we construct representations of certain graded double affine Hecke algebras (DAHA) with possibly unequal parameters from geometry. More precisely, starting with a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ together with a $\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$-grading $\oplus_{i}\mathfrak{g}_{i}$ and a block of $G_{\underline{0}}$-equivariant complexes on the nilpotent cone of $\mathfrak{g}_{\underline{1}}$ as introduced in \cite{LY1}, we attach a graded DAHA and construct its action on the direct sum of spiral inductions in that block. This generalizes results of Vasserot \cite{V} and Oblomkov-Yun \ci…
We introduce a class of equivalences, which we call generalized semi-infinite Hecke equivalences, between certain categories of representations of graded associative algebras which appear in the setting of semi-infinite cohomology for associative algebras and categories of representations of related algebras of Hecke type which we call semi-infinite Hecke algebras. As an application we obtain an equivalence between a category of representations of a non-twisted affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak g}$ of level $-2h^\vee-k$, where $h^\vee$ is the dual Coxeter number of the underlying semisimp…
By using new techniques with the degenerate Whittaker functions found by Ikeda-Yamana, we construct higher level cusp form on $E_{7,3}$, called Ikeda type lift, from any Hecke cusp form whose corresponding automorphic representation has no supercuspidal local components. This generalizes the previous results on level one forms. But there are new phenomena in higher levels; first, we can handle non-trivial central characters. Second, the lift depends only on the restriction of the Hecke cusp form to $SL_2$. Hence any twist of the cusp form gives rise to the same lift. However for square free le…
