In 1978 Kostant suggested the Whittaker model of the center of the universal enveloping algebra U(g) of a complex simple Lie algebra g. The main result is that the center of U(g) is isomorphic to a commutative subalgebra in U(b), where b is a Borel subalgebra in g. This observation is used in the theory of principal series representations of the corresponding Lie group G and in the proof of complete integrability of the quantum Toda lattice.
In this paper we generalize the Kostant's construction to quantum groups. In our construction we use quantum analogues of regular nilpotent elements defined in math.QA/9812107.
Using the Whittaker model of the center of 5the algebra U_h(g) we define quantum deformations of Whittaker modules. The new Whittaker model is also applied to the deformed quantum Toda lattice recently studied by Etingof in math.QA/9901053. We give new proofs of his results which resemble the original Kostant's proofs for the quantum Toda lattice.
In this paper we q-deform a construction of Kazhdan and Kostant from 1970's which produces quantum Toda Hamiltonians by considering the action of Casimirs of a simple Lie algebra on Whittaker functions on the corresponding Lie group. We also give the affine analog of this generalization. This is done by extending the notion of a Whittaker function to quantum groups and quantum affine algebras. We compute the q-deformed Toda Hamiltonians for Lie algebras of type A and show that they coincide with those known in the theory of integrable systems.
The $b$-Whittaker functions are eigenfunctions of the modular $q$-deformed $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ open Toda system introduced by Kharchev, Lebedev, and Semenov-Tian-Shansky. Using the quantum inverse scattering method, the named authors obtained a Mellin-Barnes integral representation for these eigenfunctions. In the present paper, we develop the analytic theory of the $b$-Whittaker functions from the perspective of quantum cluster algebras. We obtain a formula for the modular open Toda system's Baxter operator as a sequence of quantum cluster transformations, and thereby derive a new modular $b$-a…
In this paper we construct weighted path models to compute Whittaker vectors in the completion of Verma modules, as well as Whittaker functions of fundamental type, for all finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras, affine Lie algebras, and the quantum algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1})$. This leads to series expressions for the Whittaker functions. We show how this construction leads directly to the quantum Toda equations satisfied by these functions, and to the $q$-difference equations in the quantum case. We investigate the critical limit of affine Whittaker functions computed in this way.

Let G be a semi-simple simply connected group over complex numbers. In this paper we give a geometric definition of the (dual) Weyl modules over the group G[t] and show that their characters form an eigen-function of the lattice version of the q-Toda integrable integrable system (defined by means of the quantum group version of Kostant-Whittaker reduction due to Etingof and Sevostyanov). All the proofs are algebro-geometric and rely on our previous work which interprets the universal eigen-function of the q-Toda system in terms of rings of functions on the spaces of based quasi-maps from P^1 t…
Integral representation for the eigenfunctions of quantum periodic Toda chain is constructed for N-particle case. The multiple integral is calculated using the Cauchy residue formula. This gives the representation which reproduces the particular results obtained by Gutzwiller for N=2,3 and 4-particle chain. Our method to solve the problem combines the ideas of Gutzwiller and R-matrix approach of Sklyanin with the classical results in the theory of the Whittaker functions. In particular, we calculate Sklyanin's invariant scalar product from the Plancherel formula for the Whittaker functions der…
We use the Whittaker vectors and the Drinfeld Casimir element to show that eigenfunctions of the difference Toda Hamiltonian can be expressed via fermionic formulas. Motivated by the combinatorics of the fermionic formulas we use the representation theory of the quantum groups to prove a number of identities for the coefficients of the eigenfunctions.
We study a class of representations of the Lie algebra of Laurent polynomials with values in the nilpotent subalgebra of sl(3). We derive Weyl-type (bosonic) character formulas for these representations. We establish a connection between the bosonic formulas and the Whittaker vector in the Verma module for the quantum group $U_v sl(3)$. We also obtain a fermionic formula for an eigenfunction of the sl(3) quantum Toda Hamiltonian.
We will give new applications of quantum groups to the study of spherical Whittaker functions on the metaplectic $n$-fold cover of $GL(r,F)$, where $F$ is a nonarchimedean local field. Earlier Brubaker, Bump, Friedberg, Chinta and Gunnells had shown that these Whittaker functions can be identified with the partition functions of statistical mechanical systems. They postulated that a Yang-Baxter equation underlies the properties of these Whittaker functions. We confirm this, and identify the corresponding Yang-Baxter equation with that of the quantum affine Lie superalgebra $U_{\sqrt{v}}(\wideh…
The paper deals with the analytic theory of the quantum q-deformed Toda chain; the technique used combines the methods of representation theory and the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method. The key phenomenon which is under scrutiny is the role of the modular duality concept (first discovered by L.Faddeev) in the representation theory of noncompact semisimple quantum groups. Explicit formulae for the Whittaker vectors are presented in terms of the double sine functions and the wave functions of the N-particle q-deformed open Toda chain are given as a multiple integral of the Mellin-Barnes type. F…
The main object of this paper is to produce a deformation of the KdV hierarchy of partial differential equations. We construct this deformation by taking a certain limit of the Toda hierarchy. This construction also provides a deformation of the Virasoro algebra.
We describe the algebraic ingredients of a proof of the conjecture of Frenkel and Ip that the category of positive representations $\mathcal{P}_λ$ of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ is closed under tensor products. Our results generalize those of Ponsot and Teschner in the rank 1 case of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. In higher rank, many nontrivial features appear, the most important of these being a surprising connection to the quantum integrability of the open Coxeter-Toda lattice. We show that the closure under tensor products follows from the orthogonality and completeness of the To…
We introduce a new set of $q$-difference operators acting as raising operators on a family of symmetric polynomials which are characters of graded tensor products of current algebra ${\mathfrak g}[u]$ KR-modules \cite{FL} for ${\mathfrak g}=A_r$. These operators are generalizations of the Kirillov-Noumi \cite{kinoum} Macdonald raising operators, in the dual $q$-Whittaker limit $t\to\infty$. They form a representation of the quantum $Q$-system of type $A$ \cite{qKR}. This system is a subalgebra of a quantum cluster algebra, and is also a discrete integrable system whose conserved quantities, an…
Using deformation quantization and suitable 2 by 2 quantum $R$-matrices we show that a list of Toda like classical integrable systems given by Y.B.Suris is quantum integrable in the sense that the classical conserved quantities (which are already in involution with respect to the Poisson bracket) commute with respect to the standard star-product of Weyl type in flat $2n$-dimensional space.
The quantum toroidal algebra of $gl_1$ provides many deformed W-algebras associated with (super) Lie algebras of type A. The recent work by Gaiotto and Rapcak suggests that a wider class of deformed W-algebras including non-principal cases are obtained by gluing the quantum toroidal algebras of $gl_1$. These algebras are expected to be related with 5d AGT correspondence. In this paper, we discuss quantum deformation of the W-algebras obtained from $\widehat{su}(N)$ by the quantum Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction with su(2) embedding [N-1,1]. They were studied by Feigin and Semikhatov and we refer to…
Consider the generalized flag manifold $G/B$ and the corresponding affine flag manifold $\mathcal{Fl}_G$. In this paper we use curve neighborhoods for Schubert varieties in $\mathcal{Fl}_G$ to construct certain affine Gromov-Witten invariants of $\mathcal{Fl}_G$, and to obtain a family of "affine quantum Chevalley" operators $Λ_0, \ldots, Λ_n$ indexed by the simple roots in the affine root system of $G$. These operators act on the cohomology ring $\mathrm{H}^*(\mathcal{Fl}_G)$ with coefficients in $\mathbb{Z}[q_0, \ldots,q_n]$. By analyzing commutativity and invariance properties of these oper…
Gorsky et al. presented an explicit construction of Whitham deformations of the Seiberg-Witten curve for the $SU(N+1)$ $\calN = 2$ SUSY Yang-Mills theory. We extend their result to all classical gauge groups and some other cases such as the spectral curve of the $A^{(2)}_{2N}$ affine Toda Toda system. Our construction, too, uses fractional powers of the superpotential $W(x)$ that characterizes the curve. We also consider the $u$-plane integral of topologically twisted theories on four-dimensional manifolds $X$ with $b_2^{+}(X) = 1$ in the language of these explicitly constructed Whitham deform…
Deformed $\W$--algebra $\W_{q,t}(\g)$ associated to an arbitrary simple Lie algebra $\g$ is defined together with its free field realizations and the screening operators. Explicit formulas are given for generators of $\W_{q,t}(\g)$ when $\g$ is of classical type. These formulas exhibit a deep connection between $\W_{q,t}(\g)$ and the analytic Bethe Ansatz in integrable models associated to quantum affine algebras $U_q(\G)$ and $U_t(\GL)$. The scaling limit of $\W_{q,t}(\g)$ is closely related to affine Toda field theories.
A homological construction of integrals of motion of the classical and quantum Toda field theories is given. Using this construction, we identify the integrals of motion with cohomology classes of certain complexes, which are modeled on the BGG resolutions of the associated Lie algebras and their quantum deformations. This way we prove that all classical integrals of motion can be quantized. For the Toda field theories associated to finite-dimensional Lie algebras, the algebra of integrals of motions is the corresponding W-algebra. For affine Toda field theories this algebra is a commutative s…
One possible way to fix partly a ``canonical definition'' of $τ$-functions beyond the conventional KP/Toda framework could be to postulate that evolution operators are {\it always} group elements. We discuss implications of this postulate for the first non-trivial case: fundamental representations of quantum groups $SL_q(N)$. It appears that the most suited (simple) for quantum deformation framework is some non-standard formulation of KP/Toda systems. It turns out that the postulate needs to be slightly modified to take into account that no ``nilpotent subgroups'' exist in $SL_q(N)$ for $q\neq…
In our earlier papers we proposed a new approach to integrable hierarchies of soliton equations and their quantum deformations. We have applied this approach to the Toda field theories and the generalized KdV and modified KdV (mKdV) hierarchies. In this paper we apply our approach to the Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (AKNS) hierarchy and its generalizations. In particular, we show that the free field (Wakimoto) realization of an affine algebra naturally appears in the context of the generalized AKNS hierarchies. This is analogous to the appearance of the free field (quantum Miura) realization of …
