In this paper we q-deform a construction of Kazhdan and Kostant from 1970's which produces quantum Toda Hamiltonians by considering the action of Casimirs of a simple Lie algebra on Whittaker functions on the corresponding Lie group. We also give the affine analog of this generalization. This is done by extending the notion of a Whittaker function to quantum groups and quantum affine algebras. We compute the q-deformed Toda Hamiltonians for Lie algebras of type A and show that they coincide with those known in the theory of integrable systems.
We give a proof of the recursive formula on the norm of Whittaker vector of the deformed Virasoro algebra, which is an analog of the one for the Virasoro Lie algebra proposed by Al. Zamolodchikov. Our formula gives a proof of the pure SU(2) 5d AGT relation proposed by Awata and Yamada. We also give a summary of the structures of the deformed Virasoro algebra and the fundamental properties of the Verma module.
In 1978 Kostant suggested the Whittaker model of the center of the universal enveloping algebra U(g) of a complex simple Lie algebra g. The main result is that the center of U(g) is isomorphic to a commutative subalgebra in U(b), where b is a Borel subalgebra in g. This observation is used in the theory of principal series representations of the corresponding Lie group G and in the proof of complete integrability of the quantum Toda lattice. In this paper we generalize the Kostant's construction to quantum groups. In our construction we use quantum analogues of regular nilpotent elements defin…
We give a proof of Awata and Yamada's conjecture for the explicit formula of Whittaker vector of the deformed Virasoro algebra realized in the Fock space. The formula is expressed as a summation over Macdonald symmetric functions with factored coefficients. In the proof we fully use currents appearing in the Fock representation of Ding-Iohara-Miki quantum algebra. We also mention an interpretation of Whittaker vector in terms of the geometry of the Hilbert schemes of points on the affine plane.
This paper is based on the lectures given by the first author at Harvard in February and March, 2009. It begins with an introduction to the classical p-adic theory of the Macdonald, Matsumoto and Whittaker functions. Its major directions are as follows: 1) extending the theory of DAHA to arbitrary levels; 2) the affine Satake isomorphism and Hall functions via DAHA; 3) the spinor Dunkl operators for the Q-Toda equation; 4) applications to the nil-DAHA and q-Whittaker functions; 5) the technique of spinors in the differential theory and its applications to the AKZ-QMBP isomorphism theorem.
Starting with nonsymmetric global difference spherical functions, we define and calculate spinor (nonsymmetric) global q-Whittaker functions for arbitrary reduced root systems, which are reproducing kernels of the DAHA-Fourier transforms of Nil-DAHA and solutions of the q-Toda-Dunkl eigenvalue problem. We introduce the spinor q-Toda-Dunkl operators as limits of the difference Dunkl operators in DAHA theory under the spinor variant of the Ruijsenaars procedure. Their general algebraic theory (any reduced root systems) is the key part of this paper, based on the new technique of W-spinors and co…

The $b$-Whittaker functions are eigenfunctions of the modular $q$-deformed $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ open Toda system introduced by Kharchev, Lebedev, and Semenov-Tian-Shansky. Using the quantum inverse scattering method, the named authors obtained a Mellin-Barnes integral representation for these eigenfunctions. In the present paper, we develop the analytic theory of the $b$-Whittaker functions from the perspective of quantum cluster algebras. We obtain a formula for the modular open Toda system's Baxter operator as a sequence of quantum cluster transformations, and thereby derive a new modular $b$-a…
In this paper we construct weighted path models to compute Whittaker vectors in the completion of Verma modules, as well as Whittaker functions of fundamental type, for all finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras, affine Lie algebras, and the quantum algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1})$. This leads to series expressions for the Whittaker functions. We show how this construction leads directly to the quantum Toda equations satisfied by these functions, and to the $q$-difference equations in the quantum case. We investigate the critical limit of affine Whittaker functions computed in this way.
Let G be a semi-simple simply connected group over complex numbers. In this paper we give a geometric definition of the (dual) Weyl modules over the group G[t] and show that their characters form an eigen-function of the lattice version of the q-Toda integrable integrable system (defined by means of the quantum group version of Kostant-Whittaker reduction due to Etingof and Sevostyanov). All the proofs are algebro-geometric and rely on our previous work which interprets the universal eigen-function of the q-Toda system in terms of rings of functions on the spaces of based quasi-maps from P^1 t…
This work, to be published in Transformation Groups in two parts, is devoted to the theory of nil-DAHA for the root system A_1 and its applications to symmetric and nonsymmetric (spinor) global q-Whittaker functions. These functions integrate the q-Toda eigenvalue problem and its Dunkl-type nonsymmetric version. The global symmetric function can be interpreted as the generating function of the Demazure characters for dominant weights, which describe the algebraic-geometric properties of the corresponding affine Schubert varieties. Its Harish-Chandra-type asymptotic expansion appeared directly …
Integral representation for the eigenfunctions of quantum periodic Toda chain is constructed for N-particle case. The multiple integral is calculated using the Cauchy residue formula. This gives the representation which reproduces the particular results obtained by Gutzwiller for N=2,3 and 4-particle chain. Our method to solve the problem combines the ideas of Gutzwiller and R-matrix approach of Sklyanin with the classical results in the theory of the Whittaker functions. In particular, we calculate Sklyanin's invariant scalar product from the Plancherel formula for the Whittaker functions der…
We use the Whittaker vectors and the Drinfeld Casimir element to show that eigenfunctions of the difference Toda Hamiltonian can be expressed via fermionic formulas. Motivated by the combinatorics of the fermionic formulas we use the representation theory of the quantum groups to prove a number of identities for the coefficients of the eigenfunctions.
We propose $q$-deformation of the Gamayun-Iorgov-Lisovyy formula for Painlevé $τ$ function. Namely we propose formula for $τ$ function for $q$-difference Painlevé equation corresponding to $A_7^{(1)}{}'$ surface (and $A_1^{(1)}$ symmetry) in Sakai's classification. In this formula $τ$ function equals the series of $q$-Virasoro Whittaker conformal blocks (equivalently Nekrasov partition functions for pure $SU(2)$ 5d theory).
We study a class of representations of the Lie algebra of Laurent polynomials with values in the nilpotent subalgebra of sl(3). We derive Weyl-type (bosonic) character formulas for these representations. We establish a connection between the bosonic formulas and the Whittaker vector in the Verma module for the quantum group $U_v sl(3)$. We also obtain a fermionic formula for an eigenfunction of the sl(3) quantum Toda Hamiltonian.
The paper deals with the analytic theory of the quantum q-deformed Toda chain; the technique used combines the methods of representation theory and the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method. The key phenomenon which is under scrutiny is the role of the modular duality concept (first discovered by L.Faddeev) in the representation theory of noncompact semisimple quantum groups. Explicit formulae for the Whittaker vectors are presented in terms of the double sine functions and the wave functions of the N-particle q-deformed open Toda chain are given as a multiple integral of the Mellin-Barnes type. F…
In previous work we introduced and studied a function $R(a_{+},a_{-},{\bf c};v,\hat{v})$ that is a generalization of the hypergeometric function ${}_2F_1$ and the Askey-Wilson polynomials. When the coupling vector ${\bf c}\in{\mathbb C}^4$ is specialized to $(b,0,0,0)$, $b\in{\mathbb C}$, we obtain a function ${\mathcal R}(a_{+},a_{-},b;v,2\hat{v})$ that generalizes the conical function specialization of ${}_2F_1$ and the $q$-Gegenbauer polynomials. The function ${\mathcal R}$ is the joint eigenfunction of four analytic difference operators associated with the relativistic Calogero-Moser syste…
By exploiting the properties of q-deformed Coxeter elements, the scattering matrices of affine Toda field theories with real coupling constant related to any dual pair of simple Lie algebras may be expressed in a completely generic way. We discuss the governing equations for the existence of bound states, i.e. the fusing rules, in terms of q-deformed Coxeter elements, twisted q-deformed Coxeter elements and undeformed Coxeter elements. We establish the precise relation between these different formulations and study their solutions. The generalized S-matrix bootstrap equations are shown to be e…
In this thesis, we obtain the formula for the Kac determinant of the algebra arising from the level $N$ representation of the Ding-Iohara-Miki algebra. This formula can be proved by decomposing the level $N$ representation into the deformed $W$-algebra part and the $U(1)$ boson part, and using the screening currents of the deformed $W$-algebra. It is also discovered that singular vectors obtained by its screening currents correspond to the generalized Macdonald functions. Moreover, we investigate the $q \rightarrow 0$ limit of five-dimensional AGT correspondence. In this limit, the simplest 5D…
We describe the algebraic ingredients of a proof of the conjecture of Frenkel and Ip that the category of positive representations $\mathcal{P}_λ$ of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ is closed under tensor products. Our results generalize those of Ponsot and Teschner in the rank 1 case of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. In higher rank, many nontrivial features appear, the most important of these being a surprising connection to the quantum integrability of the open Coxeter-Toda lattice. We show that the closure under tensor products follows from the orthogonality and completeness of the To…
The quantum toroidal algebra of $gl_1$ provides many deformed W-algebras associated with (super) Lie algebras of type A. The recent work by Gaiotto and Rapcak suggests that a wider class of deformed W-algebras including non-principal cases are obtained by gluing the quantum toroidal algebras of $gl_1$. These algebras are expected to be related with 5d AGT correspondence. In this paper, we discuss quantum deformation of the W-algebras obtained from $\widehat{su}(N)$ by the quantum Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction with su(2) embedding [N-1,1]. They were studied by Feigin and Semikhatov and we refer to…
We introduce a new set of $q$-difference operators acting as raising operators on a family of symmetric polynomials which are characters of graded tensor products of current algebra ${\mathfrak g}[u]$ KR-modules \cite{FL} for ${\mathfrak g}=A_r$. These operators are generalizations of the Kirillov-Noumi \cite{kinoum} Macdonald raising operators, in the dual $q$-Whittaker limit $t\to\infty$. They form a representation of the quantum $Q$-system of type $A$ \cite{qKR}. This system is a subalgebra of a quantum cluster algebra, and is also a discrete integrable system whose conserved quantities, an…
We investigate the underlying quantum group symmetry of 2d Liouville and dilaton gravity models, both consolidating known results and extending them to the cases with $\mathcal{N} = 1$ supersymmetry. We first calculate the mixed parabolic representation matrix element (or Whittaker function) of $\text{U}_q(\mathfrak{sl}(2, \mathbb{R}))$ and review its applications to Liouville gravity. We then derive the corresponding matrix element for $\text{U}_q(\mathfrak{osp}(1|2, \mathbb{R}))$ and apply it to explain structural features of $\mathcal{N} = 1$ Liouville supergravity. We show that this matrix…
This paper addresses the issue of integrable structure in a modified melting crystal model of topological string theory on the resolved conifold. The partition function can be expressed as the vacuum expectation value of an operator on the Fock space of 2D complex free fermion fields. The quantum torus algebra of fermion bilinears behind this expression is shown to have an extended set of "shift symmetries". They are used to prove that the partition function (deformed by external potentials) is essentially a tau function of the 2D Toda hierarchy. This special solution of the 2D Toda hierarchy …
Deformed $\W$--algebra $\W_{q,t}(\g)$ associated to an arbitrary simple Lie algebra $\g$ is defined together with its free field realizations and the screening operators. Explicit formulas are given for generators of $\W_{q,t}(\g)$ when $\g$ is of classical type. These formulas exhibit a deep connection between $\W_{q,t}(\g)$ and the analytic Bethe Ansatz in integrable models associated to quantum affine algebras $U_q(\G)$ and $U_t(\GL)$. The scaling limit of $\W_{q,t}(\g)$ is closely related to affine Toda field theories.
In this paper we continue with the program to explore the topography of the space of W-type algebras. In the present case, the starting point is the work of Khesin, Lyubashenko and Roger on the algebra of q-deformed pseudodifferential symbols and their associated integrable hierarchies. The analysis goes on by studying the associated hamiltonian structures for which compact expressions are found. The fundamental Poisson brackets yield q-deformations of W_{KP} and related W-type algebras which, in specific cases, coincide with the ones constructed by Frenkel and Reshetikhin. The construction un…
This paper addresses the problems of quantum spectral curves and 4D limit for the melting crystal model of 5D SUSY $U(1)$ Yang-Mills theory on $\mathbb{R}^4\times S^1$. The partition function $Z(\mathbf{t})$ deformed by an infinite number of external potentials is a tau function of the KP hierarchy with respect to the coupling constants $\mathbf{t} = (t_1,t_2,\ldots)$. A single-variate specialization $Z(x)$ of $Z(\mathbf{t})$ satisfies a $q$-difference equation representing the quantum spectral curve of the melting crystal model. In the limit as the radius $R$ of $S^1$ in $\mathbb{R}^4\times S…
