We argue that the Hamiltonians for A_{2n}^(2) open quantum spin chains corresponding to two choices of integrable boundary conditions have the symmetries U_q(B_n) and U_q(C_n), respectively. We find a formula for the Dynkin labels of the Bethe states (which determine the degeneracies of the corresponding eigenvalues) in terms of the numbers of Bethe roots of each type. With the help of this formula, we verify numerically (for a generic value of the anisotropy parameter) that the degeneracies and multiplicities of the spectra implied by the quantum group symmetries are completely described by the Bethe ansatz.
An inhomogeneous T-Q equation has recently been proposed by Cao, Yang, Shi and Wang for the open spin-1/2 XXX chain with general (nondiagonal) boundary terms. We argue that a simplified version of this equation describes all the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix of this model. We also propose a generating function for the inhomogeneous T-Q equations of arbitrary spin.
This work develops a new method, based on the use of Gustafson's integrals and on the evaluation of singular integrals, allowing one to establish the unitarity of the separation of variables transform for infinite-dimensional representations of rank one quantum integrable models. We examine in detail the case of the $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R)$ spin chains.
Recently, the XXX spin chain with arbitrary boundary fields was successfully solved [1] via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method [2]. The correctness and the completeness of this solution were numerically verified by Nepomechie for one choice of the parameterizations [3]. In this paper, we discuss further the completeness of another parameterization of the Bethe ansatz equations and its reduction to the parallel boundary field case. The numerical results show that when the relative angle between the boundary fields turns to zero, both the T-Q relations and the Bethe ansatz equations are reduce…
We consider rational integrable supersymmetric gl(m|n) spin chains in the defining representation and prove the isomorphism between a commutative algebra of conserved charges (the Bethe algebra) and a polynomial ring (the Wronskian algebra) defined by functional relations between Baxter Q-functions that we call Wronskian Bethe equations. These equations, in contrast to standard nested Bethe equations, admit only physical solutions for any value of inhomogeneities and furthermore we prove that the algebraic number of solutions to these equations is equal to the dimension of the spin chain Hilbe…
We investigate the completeness of the solutions of the Bethe equations for the integrable spin-s isotropic (XXX) spin chain with periodic boundary conditions. Solutions containing the exact string i s, i (s-1), ..., -i(s-1), -is are singular. For s>1/2, there exist also "strange" solutions with repeated roots, which nevertheless are physical (i.e., correspond to eigenstates of the Hamiltonian). We derive conditions for the singular solutions and the solutions with repeated roots to be physical. We formulate a conjecture for the number of solutions with pairwise distinct roots in terms of the …
We solve the longstanding problem to define a functional characterization of the spectrum of the transfer matrix associated to the most general spin-1/2 representations of the 6-vertex reflection algebra for general inhomogeneous chains. The corresponding homogeneous limit reproduces the spectrum of the Hamiltonian of the spin-1/2 open XXZ and XXX quantum chains with the most general integrable boundaries. The spectrum is characterized by a second order finite difference functional equation of Baxter type with an inhomogeneous term which vanishes only for some special but yet interesting non-d…
The non-Abelian symmetries of the half-infinite XXZ spin chain for all possible types of integrable boundary conditions are classified. For each type of boundary conditions, an analog of the Chevalley-type presentation is given for the corresponding symmetry algebra. In particular, two new algebras arise that are, respectively, generated by the symmetry operators of the model with triangular and special $U_q(gl_2)-$invariant integrable boundary conditions.
Using anisotropic R-matrices associated with affine Lie algebras $\hat g$ (specifically, $A_{2n}^{(2)}, A_{2n-1}^{(2)}, B_n^{(1)}, C_n^{(1)}, D_n^{(1)}$) and suitable corresponding K-matrices, we construct families of integrable open quantum spin chains of finite length, whose transfer matrices are invariant under the quantum group corresponding to removing one node from the Dynkin diagram of $\hat g$. We show that these transfer matrices also have a duality symmetry (for the cases $C_n^{(1)}$ and $D_n^{(1)}$) and additional $Z_2$ symmetries that map complex representations to their conjugates…
The symmetry of the generalized Polychronakos-Frahm chain is obtained from the Dunkl-operator deformation of the unitary algebra, which describes the symmetry of the generalized Calogero model.
We discuss some of the difficulties that have been mentioned in the literature in connection with the Bethe ansatz for the six-vertex model and XXZ chain, and for the eight-vertex model. In particular we discuss the ``beyond the equator'', infinite momenta and exact complete string problems. We show how they can be overcome and conclude that the coordinate Bethe ansatz does indeed give a complete set of states, as expected.
We study nonlocal symmetries and their similarity reductions of Riccati and Abel chains. Our results show that all the equations in Riccati chain share the same form of nonlocal symmetry. The similarity reduced $N^{th}$ order ordinary differential equation (ODE), $N=2, 3,4,...$, in this chain yields $(N-1)^{th}$ order ODE in the same chain. All the equations in the Abel chain also share the same form of nonlocal symmetry (which is different from the one that exist in Riccati chain) but the similarity reduced $N^{th}$ order ODE, $N=2, 3,4,$, in the Abel chain always ends at the $(N-1)^{th}$ ord…
We study two families of quantum models which have been used previously to investigate the effect of topological symmetries in one-dimensional correlated matter. Various striking similarities are observed between certain $\mathbf{Z}_n$ quantum clock models, spin chains generalizing the Ising model, and chains of non-Abelian anyons constructed from the $so(n)_2$ fusion category for odd $n$, both subject to periodic boundary conditions. In spite of the differences between these two types of quantum chains, e.g.\ their Hilbert spaces being spanned by tensor products of local spin states or fusion…
Integrable and superintegrable quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses invariant with respect to one parametric Lie groups. 2. Systems with dilatation and shift symmetries
We consider the Bethe equations for the isotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg quantum spin chain with periodic boundary conditions. We formulate a conjecture for the number of solutions with pairwise distinct roots of these equations, in terms of numbers of so-called singular (or exceptional) solutions. Using homotopy continuation methods, we find all such solutions of the Bethe equations for chains of length up to 14. The numbers of these solutions are in perfect agreement with the conjecture. We also discuss an indirect method of finding solutions of the Bethe equations by solving the Baxter T-Q equ…
This paper is the first in a series devoted to the study of logarithmic conformal field theories (LCFT) in the bulk. Building on earlier work in the boundary case, our general strategy consists in analyzing the algebraic properties of lattice regularizations (quantum spin chains) of these theories. In the boundary case, a crucial step was the identification of the space of states as a bimodule over the Temperley Lieb (TL) algebra and the quantum group U_q sl(2). The extension of this analysis in the bulk case involves considerable difficulties, since the U_q sl(2) symmetry is partly lost, whil…
We obtain a formula for the determinant of a block Toeplitz matrix associated with a quadratic fermionic chain with complex coupling. Such couplings break reflection symmetry and/or charge conjugation symmetry. We then apply this formula to compute the Renyi entropy of a partial observation to a subsystem consisting of $X$ contiguous sites in the limit of large $X$. The present work generalizes similar results due to Its, Jin, Korepin and Its, Mezzadri, Mo. A striking new feature of our formula for the entanglement entropy is the appearance of a term scaling with the logarithm of the size of $…
In this paper we count the numbers of real and complex solutions to Bethe constraints in the two particle sector of the XXZ model. We find exact number of exceptions to the string conjecture and total number of solutions which is required for completeness.

We consider a set $SPG(\mathcal{A})$ of pure split states on a quantum spin chain $\mathcal{A}$ which are invariant under the on-site action $τ$ of a finite group $G$. For each element $ω$ in $SPG(\mathcal{A})$ we can associate a second cohomology class $c_{ω,R}$of $G$. We consider a classification of $SPG(\mathcal{A})$ whose criterion is given as follows: $ω_{0}$ and $ω_{1}$ in $SPG(\mathcal{A})$ are equivalent if there are automorphisms $Ξ_{R}$, $Ξ_L$ on $\mathcal{A}_{R}$, $\mathcal{A}_{L}$ (right and left half infinite chains) preserving the symmetry $τ$, such that $ω_{1}$ and $ω_{0}\circ( …
Motivated by earlier works we employ appropriate realizations of the affine Hecke algebra and we recover previously known non-diagonal solutions of the reflection equation for the $U_{q}(\hat{gl_n})$ case. The corresponding $N$ site spin chain with open boundary conditions is then constructed and boundary non-local charges associated to the non-diagonal solutions of the reflection equation are derived, as coproduct realizations of the reflection algebra. With the help of linear intertwining relations involving the aforementioned solutions of the reflection equation, the symmetry of the open sp…
The symmetry and resonance properties of the Fermi Pasta Ulam chain with periodic boundary conditions are exploited to construct a near-identity transformation bringing this Hamiltonian system into a particularly simple form. This `Birkhoff-Gustavson normal form' retains the symmetries of the original system and we show that in most cases this allows us to view the periodic FPU Hamiltonian as a perturbation of a nondegenerate Liouville integrable Hamiltonian. According to the KAM theorem this proves the existence of many invariant tori on which motion is quasiperiodic. Experiments confirm this…
The periodic $OSp(1|2)$ quantum spin chain has both a graded and a non-graded version. Naively, the Bethe ansatz solution for the non-graded version does not account for the complete spectrum of the transfer matrix, and we propose a simple mechanism for achieving completeness. In contrast, for the graded version, this issue does not arise. We also clarify the symmetries of both versions of the model, and we show how these symmetries are manifested in the degeneracies and multiplicities of the transfer-matrix spectrum. While the graded version has $OSp(1|2)$ symmetry, the non-graded version has…
A probabilistic Markov Chain (MC) surrogate model for a two-dimensional system of interacting particles within a square domain having inherent symmetries is developed. Particles are assumed to be circular and identical, colliding with each other and with rigid domain walls via perfectly elastic collisions. Simulation results over many realizations are used to develop and evaluate the surrogate MC model. The stationary quantity of interest (QoI) is the number of particles within each of nine coarser subdomains, delineated via three internal geometric symmetries. The surrogate model is used to q…
We consider the eigenvalue problem of a kinetic collision operator for a quantum Brownian particle interacting with a one-dimensional chain. The quantum nature of the system gives rise to a difference operator. For the one-dimensional case, the momentum space separates into infinite sets of disjoint subspaces dynamically independent of one another. The eigenvalue problem of the collision operator is solved with the continued fraction method. The spectrum is non-negative, possesses an accumulation point and exhibits a band structure. We also construct the eigenvectors of the collision operator …
We consider the open spin-s XXZ quantum spin chain with nondiagonal boundary terms. By exploiting certain functional relations at roots of unity, we derive a generalized form of T-Q relation involving more than one independent Q(u), which we use to propose the Bethe-ansatz-type expressions for the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix. At most two of the boundary parameters are set to be arbitrary and the bulk anisotropy parameter has values η= iπ/2, iπ/4,... We also provide numerical evidence for the completeness of the Bethe-ansatz-type solutions derived, using s = 1 case as an example.
Bethe ansatz equations for spin-$s$ Heisenberg spin chain with $s\ge1$ are significantly more difficult to analyze than the spin-$\tfrac{1}{2}$ case, due to the presence of repeated roots. As a result, it is challenging to derive extra conditions for the Bethe roots to be physical and study the related completeness problem. In this paper, we propose the rational $Q$-system for the XXX$_s$ spin chain. Solutions of the proposed $Q$-system give all and only physical solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations required by completeness. This is checked numerically and proved rigorously. The rational $Q…
This paper addresses the three following questions. (i) How the structures of group and of chain of groups enter nuclear, atomic and molecular spectroscopy? (ii) How these structures can be exploited, in a quantum- mechanical framework, in the problems of state labelling and (external) symmetry breaking? (iii) How it is possible to associate a Wigner-Racah algebra to a group or a chain of groups for making easier the calculation of quantum-mechanical matrix elements? Numerous examples illustrate the philosophy of qualitative and quantitative applications to spectroscopy.
