New integrability properties of a family of sequences of ordinary differential equations, which contains the Riccati and Abel chains as the most simple sequences, are studied. The determination of n generalized symmetries of the nth-order equation in each chain provides, without any kind of integration, n-1 functionally independent first integrals of the equation. A remaining first integral arises by a quadrature by using a Jacobi last multiplier that is expressed in terms of the preceding equation in the corresponding sequence. The complete set of n first integrals is used to obtain the exact general solution of the nth-order equation of each sequence. The results are applied to derive directly the exact general solution of any equation in the Riccati and Abel chains.
On spaces of constant curvature, the geodesic equations automatically have higher order integrals, which are just built out of first order integrals, corresponding to the abundance of Killing vectors. This is no longer true for general conformally flat spaces, but in this case there is a large algebra of conformal symmetries. In this paper we use these conformal symmetries to build higher order integrals for the geodesic equations. We use this approach to give a new derivation of the Darboux-Koenigs metrics, which have only one Killing vector, but two quadratic integrals. We also consider the …
The paper is devoted to hyperbolic (generally speaking, non-Lagrangian and nonlinear) partial differential systems possessing a full set of differential operators that map any function of one independent variable into a symmetry of the corresponding system. We demonstrate that a system has the above property if and only if this system admits a full set of formal integrals (i.e., differential operators which map symmetries into integrals of the system). As a consequence, such systems possess both direct and inverse Noether operators (in the terminology of a work by B. Fuchssteiner and A.S. Foka…
The symmetry of the generalized Polychronakos-Frahm chain is obtained from the Dunkl-operator deformation of the unitary algebra, which describes the symmetry of the generalized Calogero model.
The symmetry structure of twodimensional nonlinear isotropic oscillator, introduced in Physica D237 (2008) 505, is discussed. It is shown that it possesses three independent integrals of motion which can be chosen in such a way that they span SU(2), E(2) or SU(1,1) algebras, depending on the value of total energy. They generate the infinitesimal canonical symmetry transformations; integrability of the latter is analyzed. The results are then generalized to the case of arbitrary number of degrees of freedom.
We study point symmetries, the corresponding conserved densities and hierarchies of four new bi-Hamiltonian heavenly systems in 3+1 dimensions which we discovered recently. We exhibit an important role played by the inverse recursion operators in the description of the hierarchies. Their use is twofold, either to provide the correct bi-Hamiltonian representation or to generate nonlocal symmetry flows. Invariant solutions w.r.t. nonlocal symmetries will generate (anti-)self-dual gravitational metrics which do not admit Killing vectors which is a characteristic feature of $K3$ gravitational inst…
In this paper, we investigate a relation between the Givental group of rank one and the Heisenberg-Virasoro symmetry group of the KP hierarchy. We prove, that only a two-parameter family of the Givental operators can be identified with elements of the Heisenberg-Virasoro symmetry group. This family describes triple Hodge integrals satisfying the Calabi-Yau condition. Using the identification of the elements of two groups we prove that the generating function of triple Hodge integrals satisfying the Calabi-Yau condition and its $Θ$-version are tau-functions of the KP hierarchy. This generalizes…

We identify contact transformations which linearize the given equations in the Riccati and Abel chains of nonlinear scalar and coupled ordinary differential equations to the same order. The identified contact transformations are not of Cole-Hopf type and are \emph {new} to the literature. The linearization of Abel chain of equations is also demonstrated explicitly for the first time. The contact transformations can be utilized to derive dynamical symmetries of the associated nonlinear ODEs. The wider applicability of identifying this type of contact transformations and the method of deriving d…
We investigate how the Lax-Novikov integral in the perfectly invisible $PT$-regularized zero-gap quantum conformal and superconformal mechanics systems affects on their (super)-conformal symmetries. We show that the expansion of the conformal symmetry with this integral results in a nonlinearly extended generalized Shrödinger algebra. The $PT$-regularized superconformal mechanics systems in the phase of the unbroken exotic nonlinear $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Poincaré symmetry are described by nonlinearly super-extended Schrödinger algebra with the $osp(2|2)$ sub-superalgebra. In the partially brok…
The sum of elliptic integrals simultaneously determines orbits in thr Kepler problem and the addition of divisors on elliptic curves. Periodic motion of a body in physical space is defined by symmetries, whereas periodic motion of divisors is defined by a fixed point on the curve. Algebra of the first integrals associated with symmetries is a well-known mathematical object, whereas algebra of the first integrals associated with coordinates of fixed points is unknown. In this paper, we discuss polynomial algebras of non-polynomial first integrals of superintegrable systems associated with ellip…
The paper is devoted to the conjecture that an equation is Darboux integrable if and only if it possesses symmetries depending on arbitrary functions. We note that results of previous works together prove this conjecture for scalar partial differential equations of the form $u_{xy}=F(x,y,u,u_x,u_y)$. For autonomous semi-discrete and discrete analogues of these equations we prove that the sequence of Laplace invariants is terminated by zero for an equation if this equation admits an operator mapping any function of one independent variable into a symmetry of the equation. The vanishing of an La…
The dynamics of a spherical body with a non-uniform mass distribution rolling on a plane were discussed by Sergey Chaplygin, whose 150th anniversary we celebrate this year. The Chaplygin top is a non-integrable system, with a colourful range of interesting motions. A special case of this system was studied by Edward Routh, who showed that it is integrable. The Routh sphere has centre of mass offset from the geometric centre, but it has an axis of symmetry through both these points, and equal moments of inertia about all axes orthogonal to the symmetry axis. There are three constants of motion:…
We describe various kaleidoscopic and self-similar aspects of the integral Apollonian gaskets - fractals consisting of close packing of circles with integer curvatures. Self-similar recursive structure of the whole gasket is shown to be encoded in transformations that forms the modular group $SL(2,Z)$. The asymptotic scalings of curvatures of the circles are given by a special set of quadratic irrationals with continued fraction $[n+1: \overline{1,n}]$ - that is a set of irrationals with period-2 continued fraction consisting of $1$ and another integer $n$. Belonging to the class $n=2$, there …
A class of semi-discrete chains of the form $t_{1x} = f(x, t, t_1, t_x)$ is considered. For the given chains easily verifiable conditions for existence of x-integral of minimal order 4 are obtained.
