At the three-loop level we analyze, how the NSVZ relation appears for ${\cal N}=1$ SQED regularized by the dimensional reduction. This is done by the method analogous to the one which was earlier used for the theories regularized by higher derivatives. Within the dimensional technique, the loop integrals cannot be written as integrals of double total derivatives. However, similar structures can be written in the considered approximation and are taken as a starting point. Then we demonstrate that, unlike the higher derivative regularization, the NSVZ relation is not valid for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the bare coupling constant. However, for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the renormalized coupling constant, it is possible to impose boundary conditions to the renormalization constants giving the NSVZ scheme in the three-loop order. They are similar to the all-loop ones defining the NSVZ scheme obtained with the higher derivative regularization, but are more complicated. The NSVZ schemes constructed with the dimensional reduction and with the higher derivative regularization are related by a finite renormalization in the considered approximation.
The exact NSVZ relation between a $β$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ SQED and an anomalous dimension of the matter superfields is studied within the Slavnov higher derivative regularization approach. It is shown that if the renormalization group functions are defined in terms of the bare coupling constant, this relation is always valid. In the renormalized theory the NSVZ relation is obtained in the momentum subtraction scheme supplemented by a special finite renormalization. Unlike the dimensional reduction, the higher derivative regularization allows to fix this finite renormalization. This is mad…
In supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics there is the exact relation between the expressed through the unrenormalized coupling gauge beta-function and the anomalous dimension of matter superfields. In the present report we describe the subgroup of general renormalization group transformations, conserving this relation exactly in all orders of the perturbation theory in terms of the renormalized coupling constant.
The exact NSVZ $β$-function is obtained for ${\cal N}=1$ SQED with $N_f$ flavors in all orders of the perturbation theory, if the renormalization group functions are defined in terms of the bare coupling constant and the theory is regularized by higher derivatives. However, if the renormalization group functions are defined in terms of the renormalized coupling constant, the NSVZ relation between the $β$-function and the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields is valid only in a certain (NSVZ) scheme. We prove that for ${\cal N}=1$ SQED with $N_f$ flavors the NSVZ relation is valid for t…
In this paper we investigate the renormalization of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics, regularized by higher derivatives, in the on-shell scheme. It is demonstrated that in this scheme the exact Novikov, Shifman, Vainshtein, and Zakharov (NSVZ) equation relating the $β$-function to the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields is valid in all orders of the perturbation theory. This implies that the on-shell scheme enters the recently constructed continuous set of NSVZ subtraction schemes. To verify this statement, we compare the anomalous dimension of the matter superfiel…
For the ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric electrodynamics we investigate renormalization schemes in which the NSVZ equation relating the $β$-function to the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields is valid in all loops. We demonstrate that there is an infinite set of such schemes. They are related by finite renormalizations which form a group and are parameterized by one finite function and one arbitrary constant. This implies that the NSVZ $β$-function remains unbroken if the finite renormalization of the coupling constant is related to the finite renormalization of the matter superfields by …
In the case of using the higher derivative regularization we construct the subtraction scheme which gives the NSVZ-like relation for the anomalous dimension of the photino mass in softly broken ${\cal N}=1$ SQED with $N_f$ flavors in all loops. The corresponding renormalization prescription is determined by simple boundary conditions imposed on the renormalization constants. It allows fixing an arbitrariness of choosing finite counterterms in every order of the perturbation theory in such a way that the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the renormalized coupling constant sati…
For N=1 supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics, regularized by higher derivatives, a method for summation of all Feynman diagrams defining the beta-function is presented. Using this method we prove that the beta-function is given by an integral of a total derivative, which can be easily calculated. It is shown that surviving terms give the exact NSVZ beta-function. The results are compared with the explicit three-loop calculation.
The effective diagram technique based on the Schwinger-Dyson equations is constructed for N=1 SQED with N_f flavors, regularized by higher derivatives. Using these effective diagrams, it is possible to derive the exact NSVZ relation between the beta-function and the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields exactly in all loops, if the renormalization group functions are defined in terms of the bare coupling constant. In particular, we verify that all integrals which give the beta-function defined in terms of the bare coupling constant are integrals of double total derivatives and prove so…
It is known that factorization of the $β$-function loop integrals into integrals of double total derivatives is an important ingredient needed for deriving the NSVZ relation by direct perturbative calculations in ${\cal N}=1$ SQED regularized by the higher derivatives. It allows to relate the $β$-function and the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields defined in terms of the bare coupling constant. In this work we find the analog of this result in the case of using dimensional reduction regularization in the lowest orders. However, we demonstrate that in this case the NSVZ relation is n…
For ${\cal N}=1$ SQED with $N_f$ flavors regularized by higher derivatives in the general $ξ$-gauge we calculate the three-loop anomalous dimension of the matter superfields defined in terms of the bare coupling constant and demonstrate its gauge independence. After this the four-loop $β$-function defined in terms of the bare coupling constant is obtained with the help of the NSVZ equation, which is valid for these renormalization group functions in all loops. Next, we calculate the three-loop anomalous dimension and the four-loop $β$-function defined in terms of the renormalized coupling cons…
We consider the softly broken ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric electrodynamics, regularized by higher derivatives. For this theory we demonstrate that the renormalization of the photino mass is determined by integrals of double total derivatives in the momentum space in all orders. Consequently, it is possible to derive the NSVZ-like exact relation between the photino mass anomalous dimension and the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields in the rigid theory by direct summation of supergraphs. It is important that both these renormalization group functions are defined in terms of the bare co…
In the case of using the higher derivative regularization for $N=1$ SQED with $N_f$ flavors the loop integrals giving the $β$-function are integrals of double total derivatives in the momentum space. This feature allows to reduce one of the loop integrals to an integral of the $δ$-function and to derive the NSVZ relation for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the bare coupling constant. In this paper we consider $N=1$ SQED with $N_f$ flavors regularized by the dimensional reduction in the $\overline{\mbox{DR}}$-scheme. Evaluating the scheme-dependent three-loop contributio…
We verify the identity which relates the two-point Green functions of ${\cal N}=1$ SQED with $N_f$ flavors, regularized by higher derivatives, by explicit calculations in the three-loop approximation. This identity explains why in the limit of the vanishing external momentum the two-point Green function of the gauge superfield is given by integrals of double total derivatives in the momentum space. It also allows to derive the NSVZ $β$-function exactly in all loops if the renormalization group functions are defined in terms of the bare coupling constant. In order to verify the considered ident…
We verify a recently proposed method for obtaining a $β$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories regularized by higher derivatives by an explicit calculation. According to this method, a $β$-function can be found by calculating specially modified vacuum supergraphs instead of a much larger number of the two-point superdiagrams. The result is produced in the form of a certain integral of double total derivatives with respect to the loop momenta. Here we compare the results obtained for the three-loop $β$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ SQED in the general $ξ$-gauge with the help of this…
We investigate the NSVZ relations for ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories with multiple gauge couplings. As examples, we consider MSSM and the flipped $SU(5)$ model, for which they easily reproduce the results for the two-loop $β$-functions. For ${\cal N}=1$ SQCD interacting with the Abelian gauge superfield we demonstrate that the NSVZ-like equation for the Adler $D$-function follows from the NSVZ relations. Also we derive all-loop equations describing how the NSVZ equations for theories with multiple gauge couplings change under finite renormalizations. They allow describing a continu…
We briefly review the calculations of quantum corrections related with the exact NSVZ $β$-function in ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric theories, paying especial attention to the scheme dependence of the results. It is explained, how the NSVZ relation is obtained for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the bare coupling constant if a theory is regularized by higher derivatives. Also we describe, how to construct a special renormalization prescription which gives the NSVZ relation for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the renormalized coupling constant exactl…
Some recent research of quantum corrections in ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric theories is briefly reviewed. The most attention is paid to the theories regularized by higher covariant derivatives. In particular, we discuss, how the NSVZ and NSVZ-like relations appear with this regularization and how one can construct the NSVZ scheme in all orders.
The renormalization of softly broken SQED is related to the one of supersymmetric QED by using the construction with a local gauge supercoupling and by taking into account softly broken anomalous axial U(1) symmetry. From this extended model one obtains the non-renormalization theorems of SQED and the counterterms of the soft breaking parameters as functions of the supersymmetric counterterms. Due to the Adler-Bardeen anomaly of the axial current an invariant regularization scheme does not exist, and therefore the $β$-functions of soft breaking parameters are derived from an algebraic construc…
The three-loop Adler $D$-function for ${\cal N}=1$ SQCD in the $\overline{\mbox{DR}}$ scheme is calculated. It appears that the result does not satisfy NSVZ-like equation which relates the $D$-function to the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields. However this NSVZ-like equation can be restored by a special tuning of the renormalization scheme. Also we demonstrate that the $D$-function defined in terms of the bare coupling does not satisfy the NSVZ-like equation in the case of using the regularization by dimensional reduction. The scheme-dependence of the $D$-function written in the fo…
The perturbative all-loop derivation of the NSVZ $β$-function for ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories regularized by higher covariant derivatives is finalized by calculating the sum of singularities produced by quantum superfields. These singularities originate from integrals of double total derivatives and determine all contributions to the $β$-function starting from the two-loop approximation. Their sum is expressed in terms of the anomalous dimensions of the quantum gauge superfield, of the Faddeev--Popov ghosts, and of the matter superfields. This allows obtaining the NSVZ equation …
We find the three-loop contribution to the $β$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories regularized by higher covariant derivatives produced by the supergraphs containing loops of the Faddeev--Popov ghosts. This is done using a recently proposed algorithm, which essentially simplifies such multiloop calculations. The result is presented in the form of an integral of double total derivatives in the momentum space. The considered contribution to the $β$-function is compared with the two-loop anomalous dimension of the Faddeev--Popov ghosts. This allows verifying the validity of the…
Some calculations in supersymmetric theories, made with the higher derivative regularization, show that the beta-function is given by integrals of total derivatives. This is qualitatively explained for the N=1 supersymmetric electrodynamics in all orders.
For renormalizable theories with a single coupling constant regularized by higher derivatives we investigate the coefficients at powers of logarithms present in the renormalization constants assuming that divergences are removed by minimal subtractions of logarithms. According to this (HD+MSL) renormalization prescription the renormalization constants include only powers of $\lnΛ/μ$, where $Λ$ and $μ$ are the dimensionful regularization parameter and the renormalization point, respectively. We construct general explicit expressions for arbitrary coefficients at powers of this logarithm present…
We demonstrate that in non-Abelian ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories the NSVZ relation is valid for terms quartic in the Yukawa couplings independently of the subtraction scheme if the renormalization group functions are defined in terms of the bare couplings and the theory is regularized by higher covariant derivatives. The terms quartic in the Yukawa couplings appear in the three-loop $β$-function and in the two-loop anomalous dimension of the matter superfields. We have obtained that the three-loop contribution to the $β$-function quartic in the Yukawa couplings is given by an inte…
The three-loop Adler $D$-function for ${\cal N}=1$ SQCD in the $\overline{\mbox{DR}}$ scheme is calculated starting from the three-loop result recently obtained with the higher covariant derivative regularization. For this purpose, for the theory regularized by higher derivatives we find a subtraction scheme in which the Green functions coincide with the ones obtained with the dimensional reduction and the modified minimal subtraction prescription for the renormalization of the SQCD coupling constant and of the matter superfields. Also we calculate the $D$-function in the $\overline{\mbox{DR}}…
Recently the exact NSVZ $β$-function was rewritten in the form of a relation between the $β$-function and the anomalous dimensions of the quantum gauge superfield, of the Faddeev--Popov ghosts, and of the matter superfields. It was also suggested that this form of the NSVZ equation follows from an underlying equation relating two-point Green functions of the theory. Here we demonstrate that this relation is satisfied at the two-loop level for the non-Abelian ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories in the case of using the simplest (BRST non-invariant) version of the higher covariant derivat…
The contributions of the matter superfields and of the Faddeev--Popov ghosts to the $β$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories defined in terms of the bare couplings are calculated in all orders in the case of using the higher covariant derivative regularization. For this purpose we use the recently proved statement that the $β$-function in these theories is given by integrals of double total derivatives with respect to the loop momenta. These integrals do not vanish due to singularities of the integrands. This implies that the $β$-function beyond the one-loop approximation is …
We consider renormalization of the central charge and the mass of the ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric Abelian vortices in 2+1 dimensions. We obtain ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric theory in 2+1 dimensions by dimensionally reducing the ${\cal N}=1$ SQED in 3+1 dimensions with two chiral fields carrying opposite charges. Then we introduce a mass for one of the matter multiplets without breaking N=2 supersymmetry. This massive multiplet is viewed as a regulator in the large mass limit. We show that the mass and the central charge of the vortex get the same nonvanishing quantum corrections, which preserve…
We investigate a recently proposed new form of the exact NSVZ $β$-function, which relates the $β$-function to the anomalous dimensions of the quantum gauge superfield, of the Faddeev--Popov ghosts, and of the chiral matter superfields. Namely, for the general renormalizable ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, regularized by higher covariant derivatives, the sum of all three-loop contributions to the $β$-function containing the Yukawa couplings is compared with the corresponding two-loop contributions to the anomalous dimensions of the quantum superfields. It is demonstrated that for the …
We calculate the Adler $D$-function for ${\cal N}=1$ SQCD in the three-loop approximation using the higher covariant derivative regularization and the NSVZ-like subtraction scheme. The recently formulated all-order relation between the Adler function and the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields defined in terms of the bare coupling constant is first considered and generalized to the case of an arbitrary representation for the chiral matter superfields. The correctness of this all-order relation is explicitly verified at the three-loop level. The special renormalization scheme in which…
We study supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories on the three-sphere, with massive matter and Fayet-Iliopoulos parameter, showing second order phase transitions for the non-Abelian theory, extending a previous result for the Abelian theory. We study both partition functions and Wilson loops and also discuss the case of different $R$-charges. Two interpretations of the partition function as eigenfunctions of the $A_{1} $ and free $A_{N-1}$ hyperbolic Calogero-Moser integrable model are given as well.
We compute the two-loop effective Kähler potential in three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric electrodynamics with Chern-Simons kinetic term for the gauge superfield. The effective action is constructed on the base of background field method with one parametric family of gauges. In such an approach, the quadratic part of quantum action mixes the gauge and matter quantum superfields yielding the complications in the computations of the loop supergraphs. To avoid this obstacle and preserve dependence on the gauge parameter we make a nonlocal change of quantum matter superfields after which the prop…
We apply the supergraph with spurion technique to compute the renormalization of one-loop diagrams that contributes to electron and selectron self energies in a softly broken Supersymmetric Quantum Electrodynamics (SQED). In particular, we calculate the one-loop gauge superfield contribution to the two-point function.
Using the Slavnov--Taylor identities we prove that the three-point ghost vertices with a single line of the quantum gauge superfield are not renormalized in all loops in ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories. This statement is verified by the explicit one-loop calculation made by the help of the BRST invariant version of the higher covariant derivative regularization. Using the restrictions to the renormalization constants which are imposed by the non-renormalization of the considered vertices we express the exact NSVZ $β$-function in terms of the anomalous dimensions of the Faddeev--Popo…
We present the first nonperturbative large-$N$ calculation of the $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric (SUSY) $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ Yang$-$Mills gluino condensate obtained by means of numerical simulations of the lattice-discretized theory, exploiting large-$N$ twisted volume reduction. We present two different determinations based, respectively, on the Banks$-$Casher formula and on the Gell-Mann$-$Oakes$-$Renner relation, both giving perfectly consistent results. By expressing the lattice results in the Novikov$-$Shifman$-$Vainshtein$-$Zakharov (NSVZ) scheme, we are able for the first time to compare nu…
Most calculations of quantum corrections in supersymmetric theories are made with the dimensional reduction, which is a modification of the dimensional regularization. However, it is well known that the dimensional reduction is not self-consistent. A consistent regularization, which does not break the supersymmetry, is the higher covariant derivative regularization. However, the integrals obtained with this regularization can not be usually calculated analytically. We discuss application of this regularization to the calculations in supersymmetric theories. In particular, it is demonstrated th…
We study monopole operators at the infrared fixed points of $U(1)$ Chern-Simons-matter theories (QED$_3$, scalar QED$_3$, ${\cal N} =1$ SQED$_3$, and ${\cal N} = 2$ SQED$_3$) with $N$ matter flavors and Chern-Simons level $k$. We work in the limit where both $N$ and $k$ are taken to be large with $κ= k/N$ fixed. In this limit, we extract information about the low-lying spectrum of monopole operators from evaluating the $S^2 \times S^1$ partition function in the sector where the $S^2$ is threaded by magnetic flux $4 πq$. At leading order in $N$, we find a large number of monopole operators with…
We consider a one-loop finite ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric theory in such a renormalization scheme that the first $L$ contributions to the gauge $β$-function and the first $(L-1)$ contributions to the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields and to the Yukawa $β$-function vanish. It is demonstrated that in this case the NSVZ equation and the exact equation for the Yukawa $β$-function in the first nontrivial order are valid for an arbitrary renormalization prescription respecting the above assumption. This implies that under this assumption the $(L+1)$-loop contribution to the gauge $β$-fun…
We study asymptotically free SU($N_c$) gauge theories with ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetry, including the purely gluonic theory and theories with $N_f$ copies of a pair of massless chiral superfields in the respective representations $R$ and $\bar R$ of SU($N_c$). The cases in which $R$ is the fundamental representation and the symmetric and antisymmetric rank-2 tensor representation are considered. We calculate Padé approximants to the beta functions for these theories in the $\overline{\rm DR}$ scheme up to four-loop order for the gluonic theory and up to three-loop order for the theories with ma…
We discuss why the Slavnov higher covariant derivative regularization appeared to be an excellent instrument for investigating quantum corrections in supersymmetric gauge theories. For example, it allowed to demonstrate that the $β$-function in these theories is given by integrals of double total derivatives and to construct the NSVZ renormalization prescription in all loops. It was also used for deriving the non-renormalization theorem for the triple gauge-ghost vertices. With the help of this theorem the exact NSVZ $β$-function was rewritten in a new form, which revealed its perturbative ori…
We calculate the three-loop Adler $D$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ SQCD regularized by higher covariant derivatives and find the subtraction scheme in which the exact NSVZ-like relation for this function that was recently proposed is valid.
Leading Yukawa terms in the three-loop anomalous dimension and four-loop $β$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric theories for various renormalization prescriptions
The two-loop anomalous dimension of the chiral matter superfields is calculated for a general ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory regularized by higher covariant derivatives. We obtain both the anomalous dimension defined in terms of the bare couplings, and the one defined in terms of the renormalized couplings for an arbitrary renormalization prescription. For the one-loop finite theories we find a simple relation between the higher derivative regulators under which the anomalous dimension defined in terms of the bare couplings vanishes in the considered approximation. In this case the o…
In this work, we consider local and nonlocal higher-derivative generalizations of the super-Chern-Simons theory and four-dimensional SQED. In contrast to previous studies, the models studied here also have higher-derivative terms in the matter sector. For these models, we calculate the one-loop superfield effective potential.
The integrals defining the two-loop beta-function for the general renormalizable N=1 supersymmetric Yang--Mills theory, regularized by higher covariant derivatives, are investigated. It is shown that they are given by integrals of double total derivatives. These integrals are not equal to zero due to appearing of delta-functions. These delta-functions allow to reduce the two-loop integrals to one-loop integrals, which can be easily calculated. The result agrees with the exact NSVZ beta-function and calculations made by different methods.
Three-loop $β$-functions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model regularized by higher covariant derivatives are obtained for an arbitrary supersymmetric subtraction scheme. For this purpose we first calculate two-loop anomalous dimensions for all MSSM chiral matter superfields defined in terms of the bare couplings. Then we use the NSVZ equations for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the bare couplings, which are valid in all orders in the case of using the higher covariant derivative regularization. This gives the three-loop $β$-functions defined in terms of the ba…
For a general ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory regularized by higher covariant derivatives we prove in all orders that the $β$-function defined in terms of the bare couplings is given by integrals of double total derivatives with respect to loop momenta. With the help of the technique used for this proof it is possible to construct a method for obtaining these loop integrals, which essentially simplifies the calculations. As an illustration of this method, we find the expression for the three-loop contribution to the $β$-function containing the Yukawa couplings and compare it with the …
Structure of quantum corrections in ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories is investigated in the case of using the regularization by higher covariant derivatives. It is demonstrated that this regularization allows revealing some interesting features which lead to the exact relations between the renormalization group functions. In particular, the NSVZ equation, which relates the $β$-function to the anomalous dimension of the matter superfields, naturally appears in this case. We briefly review the all-loop derivation of this equation and the construction of a simple renormalization prescri…
By an explicit calculation we demonstrate that the triple gauge-ghost vertices in a general renormalizable ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory are UV finite in the two-loop approximation. For this purpose we calculate the two-loop divergent contribution to the $\bar c^+ V c$-vertex proportional to $(C_2)^2$ and use the finiteness of the two-loop contribution proportional to $C_2 T(R)$ which has been checked earlier. The theory under consideration is regularized by higher covariant derivatives and quantized in a manifestly ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric way with the help of ${\cal N}=1$ super…
General expression for three-loop $β$-functions of $\cal N =$ 1 supersymmetric theories with multiple gauge couplings regularized by higher covariant derivatives
We construct a new version of the higher covariant derivative regularization for a general ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric gauge theory formulated in terms of ${\cal N}=1$ superfields. This regularization preserves both supersymmetries of the classical action, namely, the invariance under the manifest ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetry and under the second hidden on-shell supersymmetry. The regularizing ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric higher derivative term is found in the explicit form in terms of ${\cal N}=1$ superfields. Thus, ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetry is broken only by the gauge fixing procedure. Then we…
We present an identity relating the partition function of N=4 supersymmetric QED to that of its dual under mirror symmetry. The identity is a generalized Fourier transform. Many known properties of abelian theories can be derived from this formula, including the mirror transforms for more general gauge and matter content. We show that N=3 Chern-Simons QED and N=4 QED with BF-type couplings are conformal field theories with exactly marginal couplings. Mirror symmetry acts on these theories as strong-weak coupling duality. After identifying the mirror of the gauge coupling (sometimes called the …
We study N=(0,2) deformed (2,2) two-dimensional sigma models. Such heterotic models were discovered previously on the world sheet of non-Abelian strings supported by certain four-dimensional N=1 theories. We study geometric aspects and holomorphic properties of these models, and derive a number of exact expressions for the beta functions in terms of the anomalous dimensions analogous to the NSVZ beta function in four-dimensional Yang-Mills. Instanton calculus provides a straightforward method for the derivation. The anomalous dimensions are calculated up to two loops implying that one of the b…
