The two-loop anomalous dimension of the chiral matter superfields is calculated for a general ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory regularized by higher covariant derivatives. We obtain both the anomalous dimension defined in terms of the bare couplings, and the one defined in terms of the renormalized couplings for an arbitrary renormalization prescription. For the one-loop finite theories we find a simple relation between the higher derivative regulators under which the anomalous dimension defined in terms of the bare couplings vanishes in the considered approximation. In this case the one-loop finite theory is also two-loop finite in the HD+MSL scheme. Using the assumption that with the higher covariant derivative regularization the NSVZ equation is satisfied for RGFs defined in terms of the bare couplings, we construct the expression for the three-loop $β$-function. Again, the result is written both for the $β$-function defined in terms of the bare couplings and for the one defined in terms of the renormalized couplings for an arbitrary renormalization prescription.
The three-dimensional noncommutative supersymmetric QED is investigated within the superfield approach. We prove the absence of UV/IR mixing in the theory at any loop order and demonstrate its one-loop finiteness.
Power-counting arguments based on extended superfields have been used to argue that two-dimensional supersymmetric sigma models with (4,0) supersymmetry are finite. This result is confirmed up to three loop order in pertubation theory by an explicit calculation using (1,0) superfields. In particular, it is shown that the finite counterterms which must be introduced into the theory in order to maintain (4,0) supersymmetry are precisely the terms that are required to establish ultra-violet finiteness.
Within the superfield approach, we prove the absence of UV/IR mixing in the three-dimensional noncommutative supersymmetric Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory at any loop order and demonstrate its finiteness in one, three and higher loop orders.
Within the superfield formalism, we study the ultraviolet properties of the three-dimensional supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics. The theory is shown to be finite at all loops orders in a particular gauge.
In the superfield formalism, two higher-derivative kinetic operators (Lee-Wick operators) are implemented into the standard three dimensional supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics for improving its ultraviolet behavior. It is shown in particular that the ghosts associated with these Lee-Wick operators allow to remove all ultraviolet divergences in the scalar and gauge self-energies at two-loop level.
The ultraviolet divergences of amplitude diagrams in maximal supergravity are characterised by a first possible divergence at seven loops for the 4-point amplitude (logarithmic) and, in its absence, at eight loops. We revisit the pure spinor superfield theory results of [arXiv:1412.5983], stating the absence of the divergence originating in the 4-point 7-loop amplitude as well as those of more than seven loops. The analysis, performed in terms of the one-particle irreducible loop structures giving rise to the divergences, is extended, especially with respect to the limits on the dimension for …
We study Euclidean lattice formulations of non-gauge supersymmetric models with up to four supercharges in various dimensions. We formulate the conditions under which the interacting lattice theory can exactly preserve one or more nilpotent anticommuting supersymmetries. We introduce a superfield formalism, which allows the enumeration of all possible lattice supersymmetry invariants. We use it to discuss the formulation of Q-exact lattice actions and their renormalization in a general manner. In some examples, one exact supersymmetry guarantees finiteness of the continuum limit of the lattice…
By an explicit calculation we demonstrate that the triple gauge-ghost vertices in a general renormalizable ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory are UV finite in the two-loop approximation. For this purpose we calculate the two-loop divergent contribution to the $\bar c^+ V c$-vertex proportional to $(C_2)^2$ and use the finiteness of the two-loop contribution proportional to $C_2 T(R)$ which has been checked earlier. The theory under consideration is regularized by higher covariant derivatives and quantized in a manifestly ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric way with the help of ${\cal N}=1$ super…
For a general renormalizable ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory with a simple gauge group we verify the ultraviolet (UV) finiteness of the two-loop matter contribution to the triple gauge-ghost vertices. These vertices have one leg of the quantum gauge superfield and two legs corresponding to the Faddeev--Popov ghost and antighost. By an explicit calculation made with the help of the higher covariant derivative regularization we demonstrate that the sum of the corresponding two-loop supergraphs containing a matter loop is not UV divergent in the case of using a general $ξ$-gauge. In the …
We present a four-dimensional (4D) ${\cal N}=1$ superfield description of supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theory in ten-dimensional (10D) spacetime with certain magnetic fluxes in compactified extra dimensions preserving partial ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetry out of full ${\cal N}=4$. We derive a 4D effective action in ${\cal N}=1$ superspace directly from the 10D superfield action via dimensional reduction, and identify its dependence on dilaton and geometric moduli superfields. A concrete model for three generations of quark and lepton superfields are also shown. Our formulation would be useful …
We construct the generating functional for the light-cone superfield amplitudes in a chiral momentum superspace. It generates the n-point particle amplitudes which on shell are equivalent to the covariant ones. Based on the action depending on unconstrained light-cone chiral scalar superfield, this functional provides a regular d=4 QFT path integral derivation of the Nair-type amplitude constructions. By performing a Fourier transform into the light-cone chiral coordinate superspace we find that the quantum corrections to the superfield amplitudes with n legs are non-local in transverse direct…
We complete the N=1 superfield action for the generic system of vector multiplets and hypermultiplets coupled to 5D supergravity, which is based on the superconformal formulation. Especially we clarify the gravitational couplings to the bulk matters at linear order in the gravitational superfields. They consist of four N=1 superfields, two of which are Z_2-odd when the fifth dimension is compactified on S^1/Z_2. This formulation provides a powerful tool to calculate quantum effects, keeping the N=1 off-shell structure.
We calculate the three loop anomalous dimension for a general $N=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory. The result is used to probe the possible existence of renormalisation invariant relationships between the Yukawa and gauge couplings.
We propose new off-shell models for spontaneously broken local ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetry, in which the supergravity multiplet couples to nilpotent Goldstino superfields that contain either a gauge one-form or a gauge two-form in addition to spin-1/2 Goldstone fermions and auxiliary fields. In the case of ${\cal N}=2$ Poincaré supersymmetry, we elaborate on the concept of twisted chiral superfields and present a nilpotent ${\cal N}=2$ superfield that underlies the cubic nilpotency conditions given in arXiv:1707.03414 in terms of constrained ${\cal N}=1$ superfields.
We analyze the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters obtained in grand unified theories after integrating out the heavy GUT-states. The superfield formalism greatly simplifies the calculations and allows us to derive the low-energy effective theory in the general case of non-universal and non-proportional soft terms by means of a few Feynman diagrams. We find new contributions not considered before. We discuss the implications for the destabilization of the gauge hierarchy, flavor violating processes and the non-unification of sparticle masses in unified theories.
We present a superfield Lax formalism of superspace sigma model based on the target space ${\cal G}/{\cal H}$ and show that a one-parameter family of flat superfield connections exists if the target space ${\cal G}/{\cal H}$ is a symmetric space. The formalism has been related to the existences of an infinite family of local and non-local superfield conserved quantities. Few examples have been given to illustrate the results.
We complete the four-dimensional ${\cal N}=1$ superfield description of six-dimensional supergravity. The missing ingredients in the previous works are the superfields that contain the sechsbein $e_4^{\;\;\underlineν}$, $e_5^{\;\;\underlineν}$, $e_μ^{\;\;\underline{4}}$, $e_μ^{\;\;\underline{5}}$ and the second gravitino. They are necessary to make the action invariant under the diffeomorphisms and the Lorentz transformations involving the extra dimensions. We find the corresponding superfield transformation laws, and show the invariance of the action under them. We also check that the resulta…
We review two off-shell models for spontaneously broken ${\cal N}=1$ and ${\cal N}=2$ supergravity proposed in arXiv:1702.02423 and arXiv:1707.07390. The ${\cal N}=1$ model makes use of a real scalar superfield subject to three nilpotency conditions. The ${\cal N}=2$ theory is formulated in terms of a reduced chiral superfield obeying a cubic nilpotency condition. New results on nilpotent ${\cal N}=1$ supergravity are also included.
The finiteness properties of the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory are reanalyzed both in the component formulation and using N=1 superfields, in order to discuss some subtleties that emerge in the computation of gauge dependent quantities. The one-loop corrections to various Green functions of elementary fields are calculated. In the component formulation it is shown that the choice of the Wess-Zumino gauge, that is standard in supersymmetric gauge theories, introduces ultraviolet divergences in the propagators at the one-loop level. Such divergences are exactly cancelled when the contribu…
In the framework of started in Ref.[1] construction procedure of the general superfield quantization method for gauge theories in Lagrangian formalism the rules for Hamiltonian formulation of general superfield theory of fields (GSTF) are introduced and are on the whole considered. Mathematical means developed in [1] for Lagrangian formulation of GSTF are extended to use in Hamiltonian one. Hamiltonization for Lagrangian formulation of GSTF via Legendre transform of superfunction $S_{L}\bigl({\cal A}(θ),{\stackrel{\circ}{\cal A}}(θ),θ\bigr)$ with respect to ${\stackrel{\circ}{{\cal A}^{\imath}…
The rules to construct Lagrangian formulation for $θ$-superfield theory of fields ($θ$-STF) are introduced and considered on the whole in the framework of new superfield quantization method for general gauge theories. Algebraic, group-theoretic and analytic description aspects for supervariables over (Grassmann) algebras containing anticommuting generating element $θ$ and interpreted further in particular as an "odd" time are examined. Superfunction $S_{L}(θ)$, its global symmetries are defined on the extended space $T_{odd}{\cal M}_{cl} \times \{θ\}$ parameterized by superfields ${\cal A}^{\i…
We study the one-loop quantum corrections for higher-derivative superfield theories, generalizing the approach for calculating the superfield effective potential. In particular, we calculate the effective potential for two versions of higher-derivative chiral superfield models. We point out that the equivalence of the higher-derivative theory for the chiral superfield and the one without higher derivatives but with an extended number of chiral superfields occurs only when the mass term is contained in the general Lagrangian. The presence of divergences can be taken as an indication of this equ…
We revisit the supermultiplet structure of Noether currents for N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories. Using superfield identities and the field equations we show how to derive a superfield equation for the divergences of the Noether currents in terms of the supercurrent and anomaly superfields containing 16_B+16_F components. We refer to this as the natural supercurrent structure as it is invariant under all local symmetries of the theory. It corresponds to the S-multiplet of Komargodski and Seiberg. We clarify the on/off-shell nature of the currents appearing in this multiplet and we study in de…
This thesis examines low-energy effective actions of supersymmetric quantum field theories. These actions contain information about the low-energy field content and dynamics of quantum field theories and are essential for understanding their phenomenological and theoretical properties. In chapters 2 to 5, the covariant background field method is used to investigate quantum corrections to sectors of a variety of supersymmetric field theories at 1 and 2 loops. We start by looking at the background field quantisation of a general N=1 super-Yang-Mills theory, rederiving the well-known 1 loop finit…
We obtain the one-loop quantum corrections to the Kählerian and superpotentials in the generic chiral superfield model on the nonanticommutative superspace. Unlike all previous works, we use a method which does not require to rewrite a star-product of superfields in terms of ordinary products. In the Kählerian potential sector the one-loop contributions are analogous to ones in the undeformed theory while in the chiral potential sector the quantum corrections contain a deformation parameter.
We calculate the beta-functions of the general massive (p,q) supersymmetric sigma model to two loop order using (1,0) superfields. The conditions for finiteness are discussed in relation to (p,q) supersymmetry. We also calculate the effective potential using component fields to one loop order and consider the possibility of perturbative breaking of supersymmetry. The effect of one loop finite local counter terms and the ultra-violet behaviour of the off-shell (p,q) models to all orders in perturbation theory are also addressed.
A superfield method of computing the effective potential in supersymmetric field theories is suggested. Analysis of the structure of the effective potential in the Wess-Zumino model is carried out. It is shown that the superfield effective potential is defined by three objects: kahlerian effective potential, chiral effective potential and auxiliary fields' effective potential. One-loop kahlerian effective potential is calculated using the superfield heat kernel technique. A corresponding superfield kernel is found in explicit form. Procedure for computing higher loop corrections is developed. …
We formulate a generic three-dimensional higher-derivative superfield theory for self-interacting scalar superfield action. We consider the cases of real and complex scalar superfields. For these theories, we explicitly calculate the one-loop effective potential.
We construct the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action of a real linear multiplet in 4D $\mathcal{N}=1$ supergravity. Based on conformal supergravity, we derive the general condition under which the DBI action can be realized, and show that it can be constructed in the new minimal supergravity. We also generalize it to the matter coupled system.
Using the superfield gauging procedure, we construct new ${\cal N}\,{=}\,2$ and ${\cal N}\,{=}\,4$ superfield systems that generalize Calogero models. In the bosonic limit, these systems yield rational Calogero models and hyperbolic Calogero-Sutherland models in the ${\cal N}\,{=}\,2$ case, and their ${\rm U}(2)$ spin generalization in the ${\cal N}\,{=}\,4$ case.
For a three-dimensional higher-derivative scalar superfield model, and a four-dimensional higher-derivative chiral superfield model, where which the higher-derivative operators are described by polynomials of arbitrary degrees, we explicitly calculate the two-loop effective potential.
In the $\mathcal{N}=1$, $d=3$ superspace, we propose a massive superfield theory formulated in terms of a spinor gauge superfield, whose component content includes a two-form field, and a real scalar matter superfield. For this model, we explicitly calculate the one-loop correction to the superfield effective potential. In particular, we show that the one-loop effective potential is independent the gauge-fixing parameters.
We reproduce the ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric mechanics on curved spaces, constructed earlier within the Hamiltonian formalism, using the superfield methods. We show that for any such mechanics, given by the metric and the third order Codazzi tensor, it is possible to construct a suitable modification of irreducibility conditions of linear ${\cal N}=4$ multiplets and obtain the superfield Lagrangian by solving a simple differential equation. Also, we prove that the constructed irreducibility conditions are consistent if and only if the metric and Codazzi tensor satisfy the modification of the W…
We explicitly calculate the one-loop effective potential for the supersymmetric topologically massive gauge theory in four dimensions, where the chiral scalar superfield is directly coupled to the field strength for the gauge spinor superfield.
We consider the superfield formulation of supersymmetric gauge and matter field theories on a three-dimensional sphere with rigid ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetry, as well as with ${\cal N}> 2$. The construction is based on a supercoset $SU(2|1)/U(1)$ containing $S^3$ as the bosonic subspace. We derive an explicit form of $SU(2|1)/U(1)$ supervielbein and covariant derivatives, and use them to construct classical superfield actions for gauge and matter supermultiplets in this superbackground. We then apply superfield methods for computing one-loop partition functions of these theories and demonstrate…
Extension procedure for supermanifold ${\cal M}_{cl}$ of superfields ${\cal A}^{\imath}(θ)$, ghost number construction are considered. Classical and $\hbar$-deformed generating (master) equations, existence theorems for their solutions are formulated in $T^{\ast}_{odd}{\cal M}_{min}$, $T^{\ast}_{odd}{\cal M}_{ext}$. Analogous scheme is realized for BV similar generating equations. Master equations versions for GSQM and BV similar scheme are deformed in powers of superfields ${\stackrel{\circ}Γ}{}^p(θ)$ = $\bigl({\stackrel{\circ}Φ}{}^B(θ)$, ${\stackrel{\circ}Φ}{}^{\ast}_B(θ)\bigr)$ into superma…
In this paper, by using the factorization equation of the ${\cal N}=2$ theory we study ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric SO(N) gauge theory in Argyres-Douglas points . We suppose that maximal confinement occurs in the system and give a tree level superpotential. Then, we obtain general Picard-fuchs equations for glueball superfield which are hypergeometric equations having regular singular points corresponding to Argyres-Douglas points. Furthermore, we study the solution of these differential equations and calculate the effective superpotential. Finally, we study scaling behavior of the chiral opera…
We study the quantum structure of four-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ superfield sigma-model formulated in harmonic superspace in terms of the omega-hypermultiplet superfield $ω$. The model is described by harmonic superfield sigma-model metric $g_{ab}(ω)$ and two potential-like superfields $L^{++}_{a}(ω)$ and $L^{(+4)}(ω)$. In bosonic component sector this model describes some hyper-Kähler manifold. The manifestly ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric covariant background-quantum splitting is constructed and the superfield proper-time technique is developed to calculate the one-loop effective action. The one…
A general structure of effective action in new chiral superfield model associated with $N=1$, $D=4$ supergravity is investigated. This model corresponds to finite quantum field theory and does not demand the regularization and renormalization at effective action calculation. It is shown that in local approximation the effective action is defined by two objects called general superfield effective lagrangian and chiral superfield effective lagrangian. A proper-time method is generalized for calculation of these two effective lagrangians in superfield manner. Power expansion of the effective acti…
We develop off-shell formulations for ${\cal N}=1$ and ${\cal N}=2$ anti-de Sitter supergravity theories in three spacetime dimensions that contain gauge two-forms in the auxiliary field sector. These formulations are shown to allow consistent couplings of supergravity to the Green-Schwarz superstring with ${\cal N}=1$ or ${\cal N}=2$ spacetime supersymmetry. In addition to being $κ$-symmetric, the Green-Schwarz superstring actions constructed are also invariant under super-Weyl transformations of the target space. We also present a detailed study of models for spontaneously broken local super…
We present the explicit superfield realizations of the hidden $SU(4)$ and $O(5)$ $R$-symmetries in $4D, {\cal N}=4$ and $5D, {\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories in the harmonic superspace approach. The $R$-symmetry transformations are constructed and their algebraic structure is studied. It is shown that such transformations are consistent with both manifest and hidden supersymmetry transformations. These symmetries can serve as an alternative tool for constructing the relevant complete low-energy superfield effective actions determined earlier from the hidden supersymmetry consider…
We provide ${\cal N}=1$ superfield description of BPS backgrounds in six-dimensional supergravity (6D SUGRA) with 3-branes, which is compactified on a two-dimensional space. The brane terms induce the localized fluxes. We find a useful gauge in which the background equations become significantly simple. This is not the Wess-Zumino gauge, and the relation to the usual component-field expression of 6D SUGRA is not straightforward. One of the equations reduces to the Liouville equation. By moving to the Wess-Zumino gauge, we check that our expressions reproduce the known results of the previous w…
We develop the superfield approach to the effective potential in three dimensions and calculate the one-loop and two-loop kählerian effective potential in commutative and noncommutative cases.
We write down closed formulas for all necessary steps to obtain multiparticle super Yang--Mills superfields in the so-called BCJ gauge. The superfields in this gauge have obvious applications in the quest for finding BCJ-satisfying representations of amplitudes. As a benefit of having these closed formulas, we identify the explicit finite gauge transformation responsible for attaining the BCJ gauge. To do this, several combinatorial maps on words are introduced and associated identities rigorously proven.
In this review paper, we outline and exemplify the general method of constructing the supefield low-energy quantum effective action of supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theories with extended supersymmetry in the Coulomb phase, grounded upon the requirement of invariance under the non-manifest (hidden) part of the underlying supersymmetry. In this way we restore the ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric effective actions in $4D, {\cal N}=4$ SYM, ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric effective actions in $5D, {\cal N}=2$ SYM and ${\cal N}=(1,1)$ supersymmetric effective actions in $6D, {\cal N}=(1,1)$ SYM theories. …
We consider "new inflation" inflationary models at small fields, embedded in minimal ${\cal N}=1$ supergravity with a single chiral superfield. Imposing a period of inflation compatible with experiment severely restricts possible models, classified in perturbation theory. If moreover we impose that the field goes to large values and very small potential at the current time, like would be needed for instance for the inflaton being the volume modulus in large extra dimensional scenarios, the possible models are restricted to very contrived superpotentials.
We formulate a generic three-dimensional superfield higher-derivative gauge theory coupled to the matter, which, in certain cases reduces to the three-dimensional scalar super-QED, or supersymmetric Maxwell-Chern-Simons or Chern-Simons theories with matter. For this theory, we explicitly calculate the one-loop effective potential.
Using the ${\cal N}=2$ superfield approach, we construct full ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric low-energy effective actions for ${\cal N}=4$ SYM models, with both ${\cal N}=2$ gauge superfield strengths and hypermultiplet superfields included. The basic idea is to complete the known non-holomorphic effective potentials which depend only on ${\cal N}=2$ superfield strengths $W$ and ${\bar W}$ to the full on-shell ${\cal N}=4$ invariants by adding the appropriate superfield hypermultiplet terms. We prove that the effective potentials of the form ${ln} W {ln} \bar W$ can be ${\cal N} = 4$ completed in…
The rules for superfield Lagrangian quantization method for general gauge theories on a basis of their generalization to special superfield models within a so-called $θ$-superfield theory of fields ($θ$-STF) are formulated. The $θ$-superfield generating functionals of Green's functions together with effective action are constructed. Their properties including new interpretation and superfield realization of BRST transformations, Ward identities are studied.
We develop the duality transformation rules in two-dimensional theories in the superfield formalism. Even if the chiral superfield which we dualize involves an F-term, we can dualize it by virtue of the property of chiral superfields. We apply the duality transformation rule of the neutral chiral superfield to the ${\cal N}=(4,4)$ gauged linear sigma model for five-branes. We also investigate the duality transformation rule of the charged chiral superfield in the ${\cal N} = (4,4)$ gauged linear sigma model for the $A_1$-type ALE space. In both cases we obtain the dual Lagrangians in the super…
We systematically construct ghost-free higher-derivative actions of Abelian vector supermultiplets in four-dimensional ${\cal N}=1$ global supersymmetric theories. After giving a simple example which illustrates that a naive introduction of a higher-derivative term gives rise to a ghost, we discuss possible building blocks for a ghost-free action and explicitly show that their bosonic parts have no ghost mode and the auxiliary field $\boldsymbol{D}$ does not propagate. Higher-derivative terms yield higher powers of the auxiliary field $\boldsymbol{D}$ in the actions, and the D-term equations o…
We investigate the renormalizability of the classical $ϕ^4$ theory at finite temperature. We calculate the time-dependent two point function to two loop order and show that it can be rendered finite by the counterterms of the classical static theory. As an application the classical plasmon damping rate is found to be $γ= λ^2 T^2/1536 πm$. When we use the high temperature expression for $m$ given by dimensional reduction, the rate is found to agree with the quantum mechanical result.
Tree amplitudes of 10D supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM) and 11D supergravity (SUGRA) are collected in multi-particle counterparts of analytic on-shell superfields. These have essentially the same form as their chiral 4D counterparts describing ${\cal N}=4$ SYM and ${\cal N}=8$ SUGRA, but with components dependent on a different set of bosonic variables. These are the D=10 and D=11 spinor helicity variables, the set of which includes the spinor frame variable (Lorentz harmonics) and a scalar density, and generalized homogeneous coordinates of the coset $\frac{SO(D-2)}{SO(D-4)\otimes U(1)}…
We analize the impact of two-loop renormalization group equations on the $SU(3)_c\times SU(2)_w\times U(1)_Y$ gauge couplings unification in various supersymmetric theories. In general the presence of superfields in higher representation than the doublet spoil the gauge couplings unification at one-loop. The situation is more interesting when the renormalization group equations are calculated at two-loop. In this case we show that the unification of the gauge couplings can be achieved for models with triplet superfield(s). In the analysis of the models with triplet superfield(s) we show that t…
