The theory of regularity structures sets up an abstract framework of modelled distributions generalising the usual Hölder functions and allowing one to give a meaning to several ill-posed stochastic PDEs. A key result in that theory is the so-called reconstruction theorem: it defines a continuous linear operator that maps spaces of "modelled distributions" into the usual space of distributions. In the present paper, we extend the scope of this theorem to analogues to the whole class of Besov spaces $\mathcal{B}^γ_{p,q}$ with non-integer regularity indices. We then show that these spaces behave very much like their classical counterparts by obtaining the corresponding embedding theorems and Schauder-type estimates.
In this paper we investigate Besov spaces on graded Lie groups. We prove a Nikolskii type inequality (or the Reverse Hölder inequality) on graded Lie groups and as consequence we obtain embeddings of Besov spaces. We prove a version of the Littlewood-Paley theorem on graded Lie groups. The results are applied to obtain embedding properties of Besov spaces and multiplier theorems for both spectral and Fourier multipliers in Besov spaces on graded Lie groups. In particular, we give a number of sufficient conditions for the boundedness of Fourier multipliers in Besov spaces.
We give a new description of classical Besov spaces in terms of a new modulus of continuity. Then a similar approach is used to introduce Besov classes on an infinite-dimensional space endowed with a Gaussian measure.
We study the continuity and compactness of embeddings for radial Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with weights in the Muckenhoupt class $A_\infty$. The main tool is a discretization in terms of an almost orthogonal wavelet expansion adapted to the radial situation.
The main goal of this paper is to give a complete proof of the trace theorem for Besov-type spaces of generalized smoothness associated with complete Bernstein functions satisfying certain scaling conditions on $d$-sets $D\subset\mathbb R^n$, $d\leq n$. The proof closely follows the classical approach by Jonsson and Wallin and the trace theorem for classical Besov spaces. Here, the trace space is defined by means of differences. When $d=n$, as an application of the trace theorem, we give a condition under which the test functions $C_c^\infty(D)$ are dense in the trace space on $D$.
In this work we establish a sampling theorem for functions in Besov spaces on spaces of homogeneous type as defined in [HY] in the spirit of their recent counterpart for R d established by Jaming-Malinnikova in [JM]. The main tool is the wavelet decomposition presented by Deng-Han in [DH].
The operator-valued multiplier theorems in weighted abstract Besov spaces are studied. These results permit us to show embedding theorems in weighted Besov-Lions type spaces. The most regular class of interpolation space is found such that the mixed differential operator is bounded from Besov-Lions space to this and Ehrling-Nirenberg-Gagliardo type sharp estimates are established. By using these results the separability properties of degenerate differential operators are studied. Especially, we prove that the associated differential operators are positive and also are generators of analytic se…
There are known trace and extension theorems relating functions in a weighted Sobolev space in a domain U to functions in a Besov space on the boundary bU. We extend these theorems to the case where the Sobolev exponent p is less than one by modifying our Sobolev spaces to consider averages of functions in Whitney balls. Averaged Sobolev spaces are also of interest in the applications in the case where p>1, and so we also provide trace and extension results in that case. Finally, we provide some comparable results for Neumann traces and extensions.
Using a Besov topology on spaces of modelled distributions in the framework of Hairer's regularity structures, we prove the reconstruction theorem on these Besov spaces with negative regularity. The Besov spaces of modelled distributions are shown to be UMD Banach spaces and of martingale type $2$. As a consequence, this gives access to a rich stochastic integration theory and to existence and uniqueness results for mild solutions of semilinear stochastic partial differential equations in these spaces of modelled distributions and for distribution-valued SDEs. Furthermore, we provide a Fubini …
We show that a domain is an extension domain for a Hajłasz-Besov or for a Hajłasz-Triebel-Lizorkin space if and only if it satisfies a measure density condition. We use a modification of the Whitney extension where integral averages are replaced by median values, which allows us to handle also the case $0<p<1$. The necessity of the measure density condition is derived from embedding theorems; in the case of Hajłasz-Besov spaces we apply an optimal Lorentz-type Sobolev embedding theorem which we prove using a new interpolation result. This interpolation theorem says that Hajłasz-Besov spaces ar…
In this paper we fix $1\le p<\infty$ and consider $(\Om,d,μ)$ be an unbounded, locally compact, non-complete metric measure space equipped with a doubling measure $μ$ supporting a $p$-Poincaré inequality such that $\Om$ is a uniform domain in its completion $\bar\Om$. We realize the trace of functions in the Dirichlet-Sobolev space $D^{1,p}(\Om)$ on the boundary $\partial\Om$ as functions in the homogeneous Besov space $HB^α_{p,p}(\partial\Om)$ for suitable $α$; here, $\partial\Om$ is equipped with a non-atomic Borel regular measure $ν$. We show that if $ν$ satisfies a $θ$-codimensional condit…
In this paper we consider Fourier multiplier operators between vector-valued Besov spaces with different integrability exponents $p$ and $q$, which depend on the type $p$ and cotype $q$ of the underlying Banach spaces. In a previous paper we considered $L^p$-$L^q$-multiplier theorems. In the current paper we show that in the Besov scale one can obtain results with optimal integrability exponents. Moreover, we derive a sharp result in the $L^p$-$L^q$-setting as well. We consider operator-valued multipliers without smoothness assumptions. The results are based on a Fourier multiplier theorem for…
Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and let $L$ be a nonnegative self-adjoint operator on $L^2(X)$ which satisfies a Gaussian estimate on its heat kernel. In this paper we prove a Hömander type spectral multiplier theorem for $L$ on the Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces associated to $L$. Our work not only recovers the boundedness of the spectral multipliers on $L^p$ spaces and Hardy spaces associated to $L$, but also is the first one which proves the boundedness of a general spectral theorem on Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces.
We extend the Hairer reconstruction theorem for distributions due to Caravenna and Zambotti (arXiv:2005.09287) to general function spaces satisfying a translation and scaling condition. This includes Besov type spaces with exponents below 1 and Triebel-Lizorkin type spaces.
In this paper we will focus on understanding the relation between Sobolev embedding theorems for Hajłasz-Besov spaces defined on a doubling metric measure space $(Ω,d,μ)$ and the non-collapsing condition of the measure, i.e. \[ \inf_{x\inΩ}μ(B(x,1))>0. \] We will also obtain embedding results for Hajłasz-Besov spaces whose modulus of smoothness is generated by a rearrangement invariant quasi-norm.
This paper is devoted to giving definitions of Besov spaces on an arbitrary open set of $\mathbb R^n$ via the spectral theorem for the Schrödinger operator with the Dirichlet boundary condition. The crucial point is to introduce some test function spaces on $Ω$. The fundamental properties of Besov spaces are also shown, such as embedding relations and duality, etc. Furthermore, the isomorphism relations are established among the Besov spaces in which regularity of functions is measured by the Dirichlet Laplacian and the Schrödinger operators.
Matrix-Weighted Besov-Type and Triebel--Lizorkin-Type Spaces III: Characterizations of Molecules and Wavelets, Trace Theorems, and Boundedness of Pseudo-Differential Operators and Calderón--Zygmund Operators
In this article, the authors introduce Besov-type spaces with variable smoothness and integrability. The authors then establish their characterizations, respectively, in terms of $φ$-transforms in the sense of Frazier and Jawerth, smooth atoms or Peetre maximal functions, as well as a Sobolev-type embedding. As an application of their atomic characterization, the authors obtain a trace theorem of these variable Besov-type spaces.
We establish trace theorems for function spaces defined on general Ahlfors regular metric spaces $Z$. The results cover the Triebel-Lizorkin spaces and the Besov spaces for smoothness indices $s<1,$ as well as the first order Hajłasz-Sobolev space $M^{1,p}(Z)$. They generalize the classical results from the Euclidean setting, since the traces of these function spaces onto any closed Ahlfors regular subset $F \subset Z$ are Besov spaces defined intrinsically on $F$. Our method employs the definitions of the function spaces via hyperbolic fillings of the underlying metric space.
We prove in this paper that a sequence $M:\mathbb{Z}^{n}\to\mathcal{L}(E)$ of bounded variation is a Fourier multiplier on the Besov space $B_{p,q}^{s}(\mathbb{T}^{n},E)$ for $s\in\mathbb{R}$, $1<p<\infty$, $1\leq q\leq\infty$ and $E$ a Banach space, if and only if $E$ is a UMD-space. This extends in some sense the Theorem 4.2 in [AB04] to the $n-$dimensional case. The result is used to obtain existence and uniqueness of solution for some Cauchy problems with periodic boundary conditions.
We prove general kernel theorems for operators acting between coorbit spaces. These are Banach spaces associated to an integrable representation of a locally compact group and contain most of the usual function spaces (Besov spaces, modulation spaces, etc.). A kernel theorem describes the form of every bounded operator between a coorbit space of test functions and distributions by means of a kernel in a coorbit space associated to the tensor product representation. As special cases we recover Feichtinger's kernel theorem for modulation spaces and the recent generalizations by Cordero and Nicol…
The reconstruction theorem, a cornerstone of Martin Hairer's theory of regularity structures, appears in this article as the unique extension of the explicitly given reconstruction operator on the set of smooth models due its inherent Lipschitz properties. This new proof is a direct consequence of constructions of mollification procedures on spaces of models and modelled distributions: more precisely, for an abstract model $Z$ of a given regularity structure, a mollified model is constructed, and additionally, any modelled distribution $f$ can be approximated by elements of a universal subspac…
This paper gives a systematic study of Sobolev, Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces on a noncommutative $d$-torus $\mathbb{T}^d_θ$ (with $θ$ a skew symmetric real $d\times d$-matrix). These spaces share many properties with their classical counterparts. We prove, among other basic properties, the lifting theorem for all these spaces and a Poincaré type inequality for Sobolev spaces. We also show that the Sobolev space $W^k_\infty(\mathbb{T}^d_θ)$ coincides with the Lipschitz space of order $k$, already studied by Weaver in the case $k=1$. We establish the embedding inequalities of all these spac…
In this note we are concerned with interior regularity properties of the $p$-Poisson problem $Δ_p(u)=f$ with $p>2$. For all $0<λ\leq 1$ we constuct right-hand sides $f$ of differentiability $-1+λ$ such that the (Besov-) smoothness of corresponding solutions $u$ is essentially limited to $1+λ/ (p-1)$. The statements are of local nature and cover all integrability parameters. They particularly imply the optimality of a shift theorem due to Savaré [J. Funct. Anal. 152:176-201, 1998], as well as of some recent Besov regularity results of Dahlke et al. [Nonlinear Anal. 130:298-329, 2016]. Keywords:…
We consider Banach spaces equipped with a set of strongly continuous bounded semigroups satisfying certain conditions. Using these semigroups we introduce an analog of a modulus of continuity and define analogs of Besov norms. A generalization of a classical interpolation theorem is proven in which the role of Sobolev spaces is played by subspaces defined in terms of infinitesimal operators of these semigroups. We show that our assumptions about a given set of semigroups are satisfied in the case of a strongly continuous bounded representation of a Lie group. In the case of a unitary represent…
The embedding theorem arises in several problems from analysis and geometry. The purpose of this paper is to provide a deeper understanding of analysis and geometry with a particular focus on embedding theorems on spaces of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss. We prove that embedding theorems hold on spaces of homogeneous type if and only if geometric conditions, namely the measures of all balls have lower bounds, hold. As applications, our results provide new and sharp previous related embedding theorems for the Sobolev, Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces.
Morrey (function) spaces and, in particular, smoothness spaces of Besov-Morrey or Triebel-Lizorkin-Morrey type enjoyed a lot of interest recently. Here we turn our attention to Morrey sequence spaces $m_{u,p}=m_{u,p}(\mathbb{Z}^d)$, $0<p\leq u<\infty$, which have yet been considered almost nowhere. They are defined as natural generalizations of the classical $\ell_p$ spaces. We consider some basic features, embedding properties, the pre-dual, a corresponding version of Pitt's compactness theorem, and can further characterize the compactness of embeddings of related finite-dimensional spaces.
We generalize the Gleason-Kahane-Żelazko theorem to modules. As an application, we show that every linear functional on a Hardy space that is non-zero on outer functions is a multiple of a point evaluation. A further consequence is that every linear endomorphism of a Hardy space that maps outer functions to nowhere-zero functions is a weighted composition operator. In neither case is continuity assumed. We also consider some extensions to other function spaces, including the Bergman, Dirichlet and Besov spaces, the little Bloch space and VMOA.
We survey a few trace theorems for Sobolev spaces on $N$-dimensional Euclidean domains. We include known results on linear subspaces, in particular hyperspaces, and smooth boundaries, as well as less known results for Lipschitz boundaries, including Besov's Theorem and other characterizations of traces on planar domains, polygons in particular, in the spirit of the work of P. Grisvard. Finally, we present a recent approach, originally developed by G. Auchmuty in the case of the Sobolev space $H^1(Ω)$ on a Lipschitz domain $Ω$, and which we have further developed for the trace spaces of $H^k(Ω)…
Besov regularity of multivariate non-periodic functions in terms of half-period cosine coefficients and consequences for recovery and numerical integration
The paper deals with the necessary and sufficient conditions for obtaining reconstruction formulae and sampling theorems for every function belonging to the principal shift invariant subspace of $L^2(\mathbb{H}^n)$, both in the time domain and a transform domain, where $\mathbb{H}^n$ denotes the Heisenberg group.
