In this article it is shown that S-Expansion procedure affects the geometry of a Lie group, changing it an leading us to the geometry of another Lie group with higher dimensionality. Is outlined, via an example, a method for determining the semigroup, which would provide a Lie algebra from another. Finally, it is proved that the Lie algebra obtained from another Lie algebra via S-Expansion is a non-simple Lie algebra. I
We study a geometrical formulation of the nonlinear second-order Riccati equation (SORE) in terms of the projective vector field equation on $S^1$, whichn in turn is related to the stability algebra of Virasoro orbit. Using Darboux integrability method we obtain the first-integral of SORE and the results are applied to the study of its Lagrangian and Hamiltonian description. We unveil the relation between the Darboux polynomials and master symmetries associated to second-order Riccati. Using these results we show the existence of a Lagrangian description for the related system, and the Painlev…
We review some basic theorems on integrability of Hamiltonian systems, namely the Liouville-Arnold theorem on complete integrability, the Nekhoroshev theorem on partial integrability and the Mishchenko-Fomenko theorem on noncommutative integrability, and for each of them we give a version suitable for the noncompact case. We give a possible global version of the previous local results, under certain topological hypotheses on the base space. It turns out that locally affine structures arise naturally in this setting.
A Lie-Hamilton system is a nonautonomous system of first-order ordinary differential equations describing the integral curves of a $t$-dependent vector field taking values in a finite-dimensional Lie algebra, a Vessiot-Guldberg Lie algebra, of Hamiltonian vector fields relative to a Poisson structure. Its general solution can be written as an autonomous function, the superposition rule, of a generic finite family of particular solutions and a set of constants. We pioneer the study of Lie-Hamilton systems on Riemannian spaces (sphere, Euclidean and hyperbolic plane), pseudo-Riemannian spaces (a…
The paper presents mathematical models of quasicrystals with particular attention given to cut-and-project sets. We summarize the properties of higher-dimensional quasicrystal models and then focus on the one-dimensional ones. For the description of their properties we use the methods of combinatorics on words.
In this paper we consider a four-parameter equation including the Camassa-Holm and the Dulling-Gottwald-Holm equations, among others. We prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to a Cauchy problem involving the equation using Kato's approach. Conservation laws of the equation up to second order are also investigated. From these conservation laws we establish some properties of the solutions of the equation under consideration and we also find a quadrature for it. The quadrature obtained is of capital importance in a classification of bounded travelling wave solutions of the equation st…
In the statistical description of dynamical systems, an indication of the irreversibility of a given state change is given geometrically by means of a (pre-)ordering of state pairs. Reversible state changes of classical and quantum systems are shown to be represented by isometric state transformations. An operational distinction between reversible and irreversible dynamics is given and related to the geometric characterisation of the associated state transformations.
We discuss the integrability properties of the Boussinesq equations in the language of geometrical quantities defined on an appropriately chosen coset manifold connected with the $W_{3}$ algebra of Zamolodchikov. We provide a geometrical interpretation to the commuting conserved quantities, Lax-pair formulation, zero-curvature representation, Miura maps, etc. in the framework of nonlinear realization method.
In the present work, we discuss how the functional form of thermodynamic observables can be deduced from the geometric properties of subsets of phase space. The geometric quantities taken into account are mainly extrinsic curvatures of the energy level sets of the Hamiltonian of a system under investigation. In particular, it turns out that peculiar behaviours of thermodynamic observables at a phase transition point are rooted in more fundamental changes of the geometry of the energy level sets in phase space. More specifically, we discuss how microcanonical and geometrical descriptions of pha…
Certain geometric properties of submanifolds of configuration space are numerically investigated for classical lattice phi^4 models in one and two dimensions. Peculiar behaviors of the computed geometric quantities are found only in the two-dimensional case, when a phase transition is present. The observed phenomenology strongly supports, though in an indirect way, a recently proposed topological conjecture about a topology change of the configuration space submanifolds as counterpart of a phase transition.
The construction of gauge theories beyond the realm of Lie groups and algebras leads one to consider Lie groupoids and algebroids equipped with additional geometrical structures which, for gauge invariance of the construction, need to satisfy particular compatibility conditions. This paper analyzes these compatibilities from a mathematical perspective. In particular, we show that the compatibility of a connection with a Lie algebroid that one finds is the Cartan condition, introduced previously by A. Blaom. For the metric on the base M of a Lie algebroid equipped with any connection, we show t…
A powerful method for solving non-linear first-order ordinary differential equations, which is based on geometrical understanding of the corresponding dynamics of the so called Lie systems, is developed. This method allows us not only to solve some of these equations, but also gives a geometrical explanations for some, already known, ad hoc methods of dealing with such problems.
We introduce a new cohomology for Lie algebroids, and prove that it provides a differential graded Lie algebra which ``controls'' deformations of the structure bracket of the algebroid. We also have a closer look at various special cases such as Lie algebras, Poisson manifolds, foliations, Lie algebra actions on manifolds.
Considering a Hamiltonian Dynamical System describing the motion of charged particle in a Tokamak or a Stellarator, we build a change of coordinates to reduce its dimension. This change of coordinates is in fact an intricate succession of mappings that are built using Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations, Differential Geometry, Hamiltonian Dynamical System Theory and Symplectic Geometry, Lie Transforms and a new tool which is here introduced : Partial Lie Sums.
The Lax pair formulation of the two-component Camassa-Holm equation (CH2) is generalized to produce an integrable multi-component family, CH(n,k), of equations with $n$ components and $1\le |k|\le n$ velocities. All of the members of the CH(n,k) family show fluid-dynamics properties with coherent solitons following particle characteristics. We determine their Lie-Poisson Hamiltonian structures and give numerical examples of their soliton solution behaviour. We concentrate on the CH(2,k) family with one or two velocities, including the CH(2,-1) equation in the Dym position of the CH2 hierarchy.…
The variational formalism for classical field theories is extended to the setting of Lie algebroids. Given a Lagrangian function we study the problem of finding critical points of the action functional when we restrict the fields to be morphisms of Lie algebroids. In addition to the standard case, our formalism includes as particular examples the case of systems with symmetry (covariant Euler-Poincare and Lagrange Poincare cases), Sigma models or Chern-Simons theories.
For simple Lie groups, the only homogeneous manifolds $G/K$, where $K$ is maximal compact subgroup, for which the phase of the scalar product of two coherent state vectors is twice the symplectic area of a geodesic triangle are the hermitian symmetric spaces. An explicit calculation of the multiplicative factor on the complex Grassmann manifold and its noncompact dual is presented. It is shown that the multiplicative factor is identical with the two-cocycle considered by A. Guichardet and D. Wigner for simple Lie groups.
A general, consistent and complete framework for geometrical formulation of mechanical systems is proposed, based on certain structures on affine bundles (affgebroids) that generalize Lie algebras and Lie algebroids. This scheme covers and unifies various geometrical approaches to mechanics in the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian pictures, including time-dependent lagrangians and hamiltonians. In our approach, lagrangians and hamiltonians are, in general, sections of certain $\R$-principal bundles, and the solutions of analogs of Euler-Lagrange equations are curves in certain affine bundles. The cor…
A natural geometric framework is proposed, based on ideas of W. M. Tulczyjew, for constructions of dynamics on general algebroids. One obtains formalisms similar to the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian ones. In contrast with recently studied concepts of Analytical Mechanics on Lie algebroids, this approach requires much less than the presence of a Lie algebroid structure on a vector bundle, but it still reproduces the main features of the Analytical Mechanics, like the Euler-Lagrange-type equations, the correspondence between the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian functions (Legendre transform) in the h…
Let G be the group of all formal power series starting with x with coefficients in a field k of zero characteristic (with the composition product), and let F[G] be its function algebra. C. Brouder and A. Frabetti introduced a non-commutative, non-cocommutative graded Hopf algebra H, via a direct process of ``disabelianisation'' of F[G], i.e. taking the like presentation of the latter as an algebra but dropping the commutativity constraint. In this paper we apply a general method to provide four one-parameters deformations of H, which are quantum groups whose semiclassical limits are Poisson ge…
Various aspects of coherent states of nonlinear $su(2)$ and $su(1,1)$ algebras are studied. It is shown that the nonlinear $su(1,1)$ Barut-Girardello and Perelomov coherent states are related by a Laplace transform. We then concentrate on the derivation and analysis of the statistical and geometrical properties of these states. The Berry's phase for the nonlinear coherent states is also derived.
Many important theories in modern physics can be stated using differential geometry. Symplectic geometry is the natural framework to deal with autonomous Hamiltonian mechanics. This admits several generalizations for nonautonomous systems, both regular and singular. Some of these extensions are the subject of this thesis. Recently there has been a growing interest in studying dissipative mechanical systems from a geometric perspective using contact geometry. In this thesis we review what has been done in this topic and go deeper, studying symmetries and dissipated quantities of contact systems…
In this paper we present the solution to a longstanding problem of differential geometry: Lie's third theorem for Lie algebroids. We show that the integrability problem is controlled by two computable obstructions. As applications we derive, explain and improve the known integrability results, we establish integrability by local Lie groupoids, we clarify the smoothness of the Poisson sigma-model for Poisson manifolds, and we describe other geometrical applications.
A geometrical formulation of estimation theory for finite-dimensional $C^{\star}$-algebras is presented. This formulation allows to deal with the classical and quantum case in a single, unifying mathematical framework. The derivation of the Cramer-Rao and Helstrom bounds for parametric statistical models with discrete and finite outcome spaces is presented.
