The construction of gauge theories beyond the realm of Lie groups and algebras leads one to consider Lie groupoids and algebroids equipped with additional geometrical structures which, for gauge invariance of the construction, need to satisfy particular compatibility conditions. This paper analyzes these compatibilities from a mathematical perspective.
In particular, we show that the compatibility of a connection with a Lie algebroid that one finds is the Cartan condition, introduced previously by A. Blaom. For the metric on the base M of a Lie algebroid equipped with any connection, we show that the compatibility suggested from gauge theories implies that the (possibly singular) foliation induced by the Lie algebroid becomes a Riemannian foliation. Building upon a result of del Hoyo and Fernandes, we prove furthermore that every Lie algebroid integrating to a proper Lie groupoid admits a compatible Riemannian base. We also consider the case where the base is equipped with a compatible symplectic or generalized metric structure.

In this paper, we introduce the notion of Koszul-Vinberg-Nijenhuis structures on a left-symmetric algebroid as analogues of Poisson-Nijenhuis structures on a Lie algebroid, and show that a Koszul-Vinberg-Nijenhuis structure gives rise to a hierarchy of Koszul-Vinberg structures. We introduce the notions of ${\rm KVΩ}$-structures, pseudo-Hessian-Nijenhuis structures and complementary symmetric $2$-tensors for Koszul-Vinberg structures on left-symmetric algebroids, which are analogues of ${\rm PΩ}$-structures, symplectic-Nijenhuis structures and complementary $2$-forms for Poisson structures. We…
The metric-affine and generalized geometries, respectively, are arguably the appropriate mathematical frameworks for Einstein's theory of gravity and the low-energy effective massless oriented closed bosonic string field theory. In fact, mathematical structures in a metric-affine geometry are written on the tangent bundle, which is itself a Lie algebroid; whereas those in generalized geometries introduced as the basis of double field theories, are written on Courant algebroids. The Lie, Courant and the higher Courant algebroids used in exceptional field theories, are all special cases of pre-L…
Geometrical structures on the prolongation of a pre-Lie algebroid on fibered manifolds and application to Partial Finsler geometry on foliated anchored bundle
We present a global construction of a so-called D-bracket appearing in the physics literature of Double Field Theory (DFT) and show that if certain integrability criteria are satisfied, it can be seen as a sum of two Courant algebroid brackets. In particular, we show that the local picture of the extended space-time used in DFT fits naturally in the geometrical framework of para-Hermitian manifolds and that the data of an (almost) para-Hermitian manifold is sufficient to construct the D-bracket. Moreover, the twists of the bracket appearing in DFT can be interpreted in this framework geometric…
We introduce the notion of G-algebroid, generalising both Lie and Courant algebroids, as well as the algebroids used in $E_{n(n)}\times\mathbb{R}^+$ exceptional generalised geometry for $n\in\{3,\dots,6\}$. Focusing on the exceptional case, we prove a classification of "exact" algebroids and translate the related classification of Leibniz parallelisable spaces into a tractable algebraic problem. After discussing the general notion of Poisson-Lie duality, we show that the Poisson-Lie U-duality is compatible with the equations of motion of supergravity.
We propose a generalization of the momentum map on a symplectic manifold with a Lie algebra action to a Courant algebroid structure. The theory of a momentum section on a Lie algebroid is generalized to the theory compatible with a Courant algebroid. As an example, we identify the momentum section in a constrained Hamiltonian mechanics with Courant algebroid symmetry. Moreover, we construct cohomological formulations by considering the BFV and BV formalism of this Hamiltonian system. The Weil algebra for this structure is constructed.
Weighted Lie algebroids were recently introduced as Lie algebroids equipped with an additional compatible non-negative grading, and represent a wide generalisation of the notion of a VB -algebroid. There is a close relation between two term representations up to homotopy of Lie algebroids and VB - algebroids. In this paper we show how this relation generalises to weighted Lie algebroids and in doing so we uncover new and natural examples of higher term representations up to homotopy of Lie algebroids. Moreover, we show how the van Est theorem generalises to weighted objects.
Consider an anchored bundle $(E,ρ)$, i.e. a vector bundle $E\to M$ equipped with a bundle map $ρ\colon E \to TM$ covering the identity. M.~Kapranov showed in the context of Lie-Rinehard algebras that there exists an extension of this anchored bundle to an infinite rank universal free Lie algebroid $FR(E)\supset E$. We adapt his construction to the case of an anchored bundle equipped with an arbitrary connection, $(E,\nabla)$, and show that it gives rise to a unique connection $\tilde \nabla$ on $FR(E)$ which is compatible with its Lie algebroid structure, thus turning $(FR(E), \tilde \nabla)$ …
Li-Bland's correspondence between linear Courant algebroids and Lie $2$-algebroids is explained and shown to be an equivalence of categories. Decomposed VB-Courant algebroids are shown to be equivalent to split Lie 2-algebroids in the same manner as decomposed VB-algebroids are equivalent to 2-term representations up to homotopy (Gracia-Saz and Mehta). Several classes of examples are discussed, yielding new examples of split Lie 2-algebroids. We prove that the bicrossproduct of a matched pair of $2$-representations is a split Lie $2$-algebroid and we explain this result geometrically, as a con…
We define Dirac pairs on Jacobi algebroids, which is a generalization of Dirac pairs on Lie algebroids introduced by Kosmann-Schwarzbach. We show the relationship between Dirac pairs on Lie and on Jacobi algebroids, and that Dirac pairs on Jacobi algebroids characterize several compatible structures on manifolds or on Jacobi algebroids.
Pre-Courant algebroids are `Courant algebroids' without the Jacobi identity for the Courant-Dorfman bracket. In this paper we examine the corresponding supermanifold description of pre-Courant algebroids and some direct consequences thereof - such as the definition of (sub-)Dirac structures and the notion of the naive quasi-cochain complex. In particular we define symplectic almost Lie 2-algebroids and show how they correspond to pre-Courant algebroids. Moreover, the framework of supermanifolds allows us to economically define and work with pre-Courant algebroids equipped with a compatible non…
The concept of algebroid is convenient for constructions of geometrical frameworks. For example, metric-affine and generalized geometries can be written on Lie and Courant algebroids, respectively. Furthermore, string theories might make use of many other algebroids such as metric algebroids, higher-Courant algebroids, or conformal Courant algebroids. Working on the possibly most general algebroid structure is fruitful as it creates a chance to study all of them at once. Local pre-Leibniz algebroids are such general ones in which metric-connection geometries are possible to construct. Yet, the…
We observe that a system of irreducible, fiber-linear, first class constraints on T*M is equivalent to the definition of a foliation Lie algebroid over M. The BFV formulation of the constrained system is given by the Hamiltonian lift of the Vaintrob description (E[1],Q) of the Lie algebroid to its cotangent bundle T*E[1]. Affine deformations of the constraints are parametrized by the first Lie algebroid cohomology H^1_Q and lead to irreducible constraints also for much more general Lie algebroids such as Dirac structures; the modified BFV function follows by the addition of a representative of…

Cartan-Lie algebroids, i.e. Lie algebroids equipped with a compatible connection, permit the definition of an adjoint representation, on the fiber as well as on the tangent of the base. We call (positive) quadratic Lie algebroids, Cartan-Lie algebroids with ad-invariant (Riemannian) metrics on their fibers and base $κ$ and $g$, respectively. We determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for a positive quadratic Lie algebroid to integrate to a Riemmanian Cartan-Lie groupoid. Here we mean a Cartan-Lie groupoid $\mathcal{G}$ equipped with a bi-invariant and inversion invariant metric $η$ o…
In previous work with M.C. Fernandes, we found a Lie algebroid symmetry for the Einstein evolution equations of general relativity. The present work was motivated by the effort to explain the coisotropic structure of the constraint subset for the initial value problem by extending the notion of hamiltonian structure from Lie algebra actions to general Lie algebroids over presymplectic manifolds. After comparing possible compatibility conditions between the anchor $A\to TM$ and the presymplectic structure on the base $M$, we choose the most natural of them, given by a suitably chosen connection…
The results of this manuscript is the collection of my articles that I published during my PhD thesis. We show that there is an equivalence of categories between Lie-Rinehart algebras over a commutative algebra $\mathcal O$ and homotopy equivalence classes of negatively graded acyclic Lie $\infty$-algebroids. Therefore, this result makes sense of the universal Lie $\infty$-algebroid of every singular foliation, without any additional assumption, and for Androulidakis-Zambon singular Lie algebroids. This extends to a purely algebraic setting the construction of the universal $Q$-manifold of a l…
