A general model for geometric structures on differentiable manifolds is obtained by deforming infinitesimal symmetries. Specifically, this model consists of a Lie algebroid, equipped with an affine connection compatible with the Lie algebroid structure. The curvature of this connection vanishes precisely when the structure is locally symmetric.
This model generalizes Cartan geometries, a substantial class, to the intransitive case. Simple examples are surveyed and corresponding local obstructions to symmetry are identified. These examples include foliations, Riemannian structures, infinitesimal G-structures, symplectic and Poisson structures.
We study non-flat planar 3-webs with infinitesimal symmetries. Using multi-dimensional Schwarzian derivative we give a criterion for linearization of such webs and present a projective classification thereof. Using this classification we show that the Gronwall conjecture is true for 3-webs admitting infinitesimal symmetries.
We study Lie algebras of generators of infinitesimal symmetries of almost-cosymplectic-contact structures of odd dimensional manifolds. The almost-cosymplectic-contact structure admits on the sheaf of pairs of 1-forms and functions the structure of a Lie algebra. We describe Lie subalgebras in this Lie algebra given by pairs generating infinitesimal symmetries of basic tensor fields given by the almost-cosymplectic-contact structure.
The geometrical theory of partial differential equations in the absolute sense, without any additional structures, is developed. In particular the symmetries need not preserve the hierarchy of independent and dependent variables. The order of derivatives can be changed and the article is devoted to the higher--order infinitesimal symmetries which provide a simplifying "linear aproximation" of general groups of higher--order symmetries. The classical Lie's approach is appropriately adapted.
Using the procedure initiated in \cite{Ma2013}, we deform Lax-type equations though a scaling of the time parameter. This gives an equivalent (deformed) equation which is integrable in terms of power series of the scaling parameter. We then describe a regular Frölicher Lie group of symmetries of this deformed equation
In this paper we study the infinitesimal symmetries, Newtonoid vector fields, infinitesimal Noether symmetries and conservation laws of Hamiltonian systems. Using the dynamical covariant derivative and Jacobi endomorphism on the cotangent bundle we find the invariant equations of infinitesimal symmetries and Newtonoid vector fields and prove that the canonical nonlinear connection induced by a regular Hamiltonian can be determined by these symmetries. Finally, an example from optimal control theory is given.
We introduce the infinitesimal symmetries of Dixmier-Douady gerbes over a manifold M, both with and without connective structures and curvings. We explore the algebraic structure possessed by these symmetries, and relate them to equivariant gerbes via a "differentiation functor". In the case that a gerbe G is equipped with a connective structure A, we give a new construction of the Courant algebroid associated to (G,A) directly in terms of the infinitesimal symmetries of (G,A).
The aim of this paper is to study symmetries of linearly singular differential equations, namely, equations that can not be written in normal form because the derivatives are multiplied by a singular linear operator. The concept of geometric symmetry of a linearly singular differential equation is introduced as a transformation that preserves the geometric data that define the problem. It is proved that such symmetries are essentially equivalent to dynamic symmetries, that is, transformations mapping solutions into solutions. Similar results are given for infinitesimal symmetries. To study the…
We provide a complete classification of hexagonal singular 3-web germs in the complex plane, satisfying the following two conditions: 1) the Chern connection remains holomorphic at the singular point, 2) the web admits at least one infinitesimal symmetry at this point. As a by-product, a classification of hexagonal weighted homogeneous 3-webs is obtained.
In the complex setting, let $F(x,y,y')=0$ be an analytic or algebraic differential equation with $y'$-degree $d$. We deal with the qualitative study of such equations through the geometry of the planar $d$-web generated by the generic family of integral curves. Infinitesimal symmetries of these configurations are discussed by using meromorphic connections methods "à la Cartan-Spencer".
In this paper, we extend the well-known Noether theorem for Lagrangian systems to contact Lagrangian systems. We introduce a classification of infinitesimal symmetries and obtain the corresponding dissipated quantities. We notice that in contact dynamics, the existence of infinitesimal symmetries does not produce conserved quantities, but functions that dissipate at the same rate than the energy; so, the corresponding quotients are true conserved quantities.
The phase space of relativistic particle mechanics is defined as the 1st jet space of motions regarded as timelike 1-dimensional submanifolds of spacetime. A Lorentzian metric and an electromagnetic 2-form define naturally on the odd-dimensional phase space a generalized contact structure. In the paper infinitesimal symmetries of the phase structures are characterized. More precisely, it is proved that all phase infinitesimal symmetries are special Hamiltonian lifts of distinguished conserved quantities on the phase space. It is proved that generators of infinitesimal symmetries constitute a L…
We construct a geometric structure on deformed supermanifolds as a certain subalgebra of the vector fields. In the classical limit we obtain a decoupling of the infinitesimal odd and even transformations, whereas in the semiclassical limit the result is a representation of the supersymmetry algebra. In the case of mass preserving structure we describe all high energy corrections to this algebra.
We study the Lie algebra of infinitesimal isometries on compact Sasakian and K--contact manifolds. On a Sasakian manifold which is not a space form or 3--Sasakian, every Killing vector field is an infinitesimal automorphism of the Sasakian structure. For a manifold with K--contact structure, we prove that there exists a Killing vector field of constant length which is not an infinitesimal automorphism of the structure if and only if the manifold is obtained from the Konishi bundle of a compact pseudo--Riemannian quaternion--Kaehler manifold after changing the sign of the metric on a maximal ne…
Motivated by the relationship between symplectic fibrations and classical Yang-Mills theories, we study the closeness of a $n$-form (n=2,3) defined on the total space of a fibration as a simple model for an abstract field theory. We introduce 2-plectic fibrations and interpret geometrically the corresponding equations for coupling in terms of higher analogues of connections.
We study symmetry properties of quaternionic Kähler manifolds obtained by the HK/QK correspondence. To any Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of infinitesimal automorphisms of the initial hyper-Kähler data we associate a central extension of $\mathfrak{g}$, acting by infinitesimal automorphisms of the resulting quaternionic Kähler manifold. More specifically, we study the metrics obtained by the one-loop deformation of the $c$-map construction, proving that the Lie algebra of infinitesimal automorphisms of the initial projective special Kähler manifold gives rise to a Lie algebra of Killing fields of …
In this article we develop some elementary aspects of a theory of symmetry in sub-Lorentzian geometry. First of all we construct invariants characterizing isometric classes of sub-Lorentzian contact 3 manifolds. Next we characterize vector fields which generate isometric and conformal symmetries in general sub-Lorentzian manifolds. We then focus attention back to the case where the underlying manifold is a contact 3 manifold and more specifically when the manifold is also a Lie group and the structure is left-invariant.
In this companion paper to our article {\em Accidental CR structures} (arxiv.org, January 2023), thought of as an appendix not submitted for publication, we provide complete explicit lists of infinitesimal CR automorphisms for the concerned CR models having respective Lie algebra structures: $${\bf E}_{II}, \qquad\ {\bf E}_{III}, \qquad\ \mathfrak{so}(\ell-1,\ell+1), \qquad\ \mathfrak{su}(p,q).$$ We start from our lists of {\em quadric} CR submanifolds $M^{2n+c} \subset \mathbb{C}^{n+c}$ of codimension $c >1$ which are shown to be {\em accidental}, in the sense that their CR symmetry groups ar…
To a hyperbolic manifold one can associate a canonical projective structure and ask whether it can be deformed or not. In a cusped manifold, one can ask about the existence of deformations that are trivial on the boundary. We prove that if the canonical projective structure of a cusped manifold is infinitesimally projectively rigid relative to the boundary, then infinitely many Dehn fillings are projectively rigid. We analyze in more detail the figure eight knot and the Withehead link exteriors, for which we can give explicit infinite families of slopes with projectively rigid Dehn fillings.
This paper is concerned with symmetries of closed multiplicative 2-forms on Lie groupoids and their infinitesimal counterparts. We use them to study Lie group actions on Dirac manifolds by Dirac diffeomorphisms and their lifts to presymplectic groupoids, building on recent work of Fernandes-Ortega-Ratiu \cite{FOR} on Poisson actions.
For the class of systems of PDEs, for which infinitesimal translations (with respect to some (in)dependent variables) possess specific finite-dimensional invariant subspaces of the space of generalized symmetries of the system considered. We establish when there exist generalized symmetries from these subspaces, which depend from the above-mentioned variables.
We study the interplay between the differential Galois group and the Lie algebra of infinitesimal symmetries of systems of linear differential equations. We show that some symmetries can be seen as solutions of a hierarchy of linear differential systems. We show that the existence of rational symmetries constrains the differential Galois group in the system in a way that depends of the Maclaurin series of the symmetry along the zero solution.
Using the adjoint action of the infinitesimal translations (with respect to some (in)dependant variables) on specific finite-dimensional subspaces of the space of generalized symmetries of some system of partial differential equations, we explicitly determine the dependance of coefficients of generalized symmetries from these subspaces on the above-mentioned variables. We establish the connection of our results with the theory of quasiexactly solvable models. Some generalizations of the approach proposed also are discussed.
