Spontaneous breaking of time-reversal symmetry in superconductors with the $p_x+ip_y$ symmetry of the order parameter allows for a class of effects which are analogous to the anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnets. These effects exist below the critical temperature, $T<T_{c}$. We develop a kinetic theory of such effects. In particular, we consider anomalous Hall thermal conductivity, the polar Kerr effect, the anomalous Hall effect, and the anomalous photo- and acousto-galvanic effects.
I derive equations of motion for quasiparticles near the nodes in the d-wave gap of high Tc superconductors. Previous versions have not properly taken into account the spatial dependence of the gap parameter phase. The results are compatible with magnetothermal conductivity measurements in the superconducting phase by Ong and Krishana.
This is a short note presenting a repeated experiment of the half-quantized transport signature given by Majorana chiral modes living in a heterostructure formed by an s-wave superconductor and a quantum-anomalous-Hall insulator.
We discuss the surface impedance (Z=R-iX) of a normal-metal/superconductor proximity structure taking into account the spin-dependent potential at the junction interface. Because of the spin mixing transport at the interface, odd-frequency spin-triplet s-wave Cooper pairs penetrate into the normal metal and cause the anomalous response to electromagnetic fields. At low temperature, the local impedance at a surface of the normal metal shows the nonmonotonic temperature dependence and the anomalous relation R>X. We also discuss a possibility of observing such anomalous impedance in experiments.
We study edge states of non-centrosymmetric superconductors where spin-singlet d-wave pairing mixes with spin-triplet p (or f)-wave one by spin-orbit coupling. For dxy-wave pairing, the obtained Andreev bound state has an anomalous dispersion as compared to conventional helical edge modes. A unique topologically protected time-reversal invariant Majorana fermion appears at the edge. The charge conductance in the non-centrosymmetric superconductor junctions reflects the anomalous structures of the dispersions, particularly the time-reversal invariant Majorana fermion is manifested as a zero bia…
The critical properties of a type-II superconductor model are investigated using a dual vortex representation. Computing the propagators of gauge field $\vec{A}$ and dual gauge field $\vec{h}$ in terms of a vortex correlation function, we obtain the values $η_A=1$ and $η_h=1$ for their anomalous dimensions. This provides support for a dual description of the Ginzburg-Landau theory of type-II superconductors in the continuum limit, as well as for the existence of a stable charged fixed point of the theory, not in the 3DXY universality class.
It is shown that there are three kinds of vortices in a superconductor; a vortex with the fluxoid quantum 1 (VF), a new vortex with 0 (VZF), and a vortex with -1 (VAF), respectively. The Hall field via three vortices is studied and found to change its sign, depending of the relative strength of contributions via VF and VAF, similar to that of a system with two kinds of carriers. VZF is suggested to act as a domain wall between VF and VAF regions, accounting for the flux and antiflux regions observed in Nb films.
We calculate the anomalous Hall conductance of superconductors with spin-orbit interaction and with either uniform or local magnetization. In the first case we consider a uniform ferromagnetic ordering in a spin triplet superconductor, while in the second case we consider a conventional s-wave spin singlet superconductor with a magnetic impurity (or a diluted set of magnetic impurities). In the latter case we show that the anomalous Hall conductance can be used to track the quantum phase transition, that occurs when the spin coupling between the impurity and electronic spin density exceeds a c…
The new results summarized here, including a brief comparison with the paraconductivity, further suggest that the anomalous precursor (above Tc) diamagnetism recently observed in the underdoped La1.9Sr0.1CuO4 superconductor could be attributed to the presence, in addition to the conventional superconducting pair fluctuations, of Tc-inhomogeneities with long characteristic lengths associated with chemical disorder.
Charge transport properties of a diffusive normal metal /triplet superconductor (DN/TS) junction are studied based on the Keldysh-Nambu quasiclassical Green's function formalism. % Contrary to the unconventional singlet superconductor junction case, the mid gap Andreev resonant state (MARS) at the interface of the TS is shown to enhance the proximity effect in the DN. % The total resistance of the DN/TS junction is drastically reduced and is completely independent of the resistance of the DN in the extreme case. % Such anomalous transport accompanies a giant zero-bias peak in the conductance s…
The current-phase relation (CPR) for asymmetric 45 degree Josephson junctions between two d-wave superconductors has been predicted to exhibit an anomalous periodicity. We have used the single-junction interferometer to investigate the CPR for this kind of junctions in YBCO thin films. Half-fluxon periodicity has been experimentally found, providing a novel source of evidence for the d-wave symmetry of the pairing state of the cuprates.
We investigate the intrinsic anomalous thermal Hall effect as an effective probe of the order parameters of non-unitary pairing states of the putative spin-triplet superconductor UTe$_2$. We consider all symmetry-allowed non-unitary states under magnetic fields comprehensively, and calculate the anomalous Hall conductivity arising from time-reversal symmetry-breaking Weyl point nodes of the gap functions, assuming three types of Fermi surfaces; ellipsoid-shaped, cylinder-shaped, and ring-shaped ones, which are predicted by previous band calculations. We find the nonzero anomalous thermal Hall …
We study the Nernst effect due to vortex motion in two-dimensional granular superconductors using simulations with Langevin or resistively shunted Josephson-junction dynamics. In particular, we show that the geometric frustration of both regular and irregular granular materials can lead to thermally driven transport of vortices from colder to hotter regions, resulting in a sign reversal of the Nernst signal. We discuss the underlying mechanisms of this anomalous behavior in terms of heat transport by mobile vacancies in an otherwise pinned vortex lattice.
The metallic ground state in two-dimensional (2D) superconductors has attracted much attention but is still under intense scrutiny. Especially, the measurements in ultralow temperature region are challenging for 2D superconductors due to the sensitivity to external perturbations. In this work, the resistance saturation induced by external noise, named as "extrinsic anomalous metallic state", is observed in 2D transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) superconductor 4Ha-TaSe2 nanodevices. However, with further decreasing temperature, credible evidence of intrinsic anomalous metallic state is obtain…
It is shown that weak correlations between the pair-breaking impurities in superconductors influence a temperature dependence of the order parameter within the Ginzburg and Landau region if the correlation radius of impurities R is greater than the coherence length of the superconductor $ξ_0$.Dependence of the square of the average order parameter on a temperature difference $T_c-T$ changes its slope in a region $ξ_0\sqrt{T_c/(T_c-T)\sim R $. Influence of correlations on other thermodynamic properties of superconductors is discussed too.
The anomalous Hall effect in type-II conventional and high-Tc superconductors is investigated based on the proposed novel theory of the thermally activated motion of vortex bundles over a directional-dependent energy barrier. Our calculations demonstrate clearly that anomalous Hall effect is induced by the competition between the Magnus force and the random collective pinning force of the vortex bundle. The Hall as well as the longitudinal resistivity for constant temperature and constant applied magnetic field of type-II superconducting films and bulk materials are calculated. The reentry phe…
Conventional BCS superconductors are expected to exhibit a conductivity with vanishing dissipation with decreasing temperature. While bulk physical properties measurements indicate PdPb$_{2}$ is a conventional superconductor with a $T_c$ of 3.0 K, measurements of surface impedance through the microwave cavity perturbation technique indicate a large, non-vanishing dissipative component below $T_c$ that is at odds with conventional superconductivity. We demonstrate PdPb$_2$ to be a possible topological superconductor with a fully gapped bulk and a dissipative Majorana fluid surface.
The anomalous scaling in the Ginzburg-Landau model for the superconducting phase transition is studied. It is argued that the negative sign of the $η$ exponent is a consequence of a special singular behavior in momentum space. The negative sign of $η$ comes from the divergence of the critical correlation function at finite distances. This behavior implies the existence of a Lifshitz point in the phase diagram. The anomalous scaling of the vector potential is also discussed. It is shown that the anomalous dimension of the vector potential $η_A=4-d$ has important consequences for the critical dy…
We present a theory of the anomalous Hall effect in a topological Weyl superconductor with broken time reversal symmetry. Specifically, we consider a ferromagnetic Weyl metal with two Weyl nodes of opposite chirality near the Fermi energy. In the presence of inversion symmetry, such a metal experiences a weak-coupling Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) instability, with pairing of parity-related eigenstates. Due to the nonzero topological charge, carried by the Weyl nodes, such a superconductor is necessarily topologically nontrivial, with Majorana surface states coexisting with the Fermi arcs of…
Recently, a quantum anomalous Hall insulator (QAHI)/superconductor heterostructure has been realized and shows half-quantized conductance plateaus in two-terminal conductance measurements [Q. L. He \textit{et al.}, Science {\bf357}, 294 (2017)]. The half-quantized conductance plateaus are considered as a solid evidence of chiral Majorana edge modes. However, there is a strong debate over the origin of the half-quantized conductance plateaus. In this work, we propose a Josephson junction based on the QAHI/superconductor heterostructure to identify the existence of chiral Majorana edge modes. We…
Temperature dependent resistivity of the iron-based superconductor NdFeAsO0.88F0.12 was measured under different applied fields and excitation currents. Arrhenius plot shows an anomalous tail effect, which contains obvious two resistivity dropping stages. The first is caused by the normal superconducting transition, and the second is supposed to be related to the weak-link between the grains. A model for the resistivity dropping related to the weak-link behavior is proposed, which is based on the Josephson junctions formed by the impurities in grain boundaries like FeAs, Sm2O3 and cracks toget…
A softening of phonon-dispersion has been observed experimentally in under-doped cuprate superconductors at the charge-density wave (CDW) ordering wave vector. Interestingly, the softening occurs below the superconducting (SC) transition temperature T$_{c}$, in contrast to the metallic systems, where the softening occurs usually below the CDW onset temperature T$_{\text{CDW}}$. An understanding of the `anomalous' nature of the phonon-softening and its connection to the pseudo-gap phase in under-doped cuprates remain open questions. Within a perturbative approach, we show that a complex interpl…
We study the transport properties of a diffusive Josephson junction between two spin-split superconductors made of superconductor-ferromagnetic insulator bilayers (FIS) on top of a 3D topological insulator (TI). We derive the corresponding Usadel equation describing the quasiclassical Green's functions in these systems and first solve the equation analytically in the weak-proximity case. We demonstrate the appearance of an anomalous phase in the absence of an external magnetic field. We also explore non-reciprocal electronic transport. Specifically, we calculate the junction's diode efficiency…
CuxBi2Se3 was recently found to be likely the first example of a time-reversal-invariant topological superconductor accompanied by helical Majorana fermions on the surface. Here we present that progressive Cu intercalation into this system introduces significant disorder and leads to an anomalous suppression of the superfluid density which was obtained from the measurements of the lower critical field. At the same time, the transition temperature T_c is only moderately suppressed, which agrees with a recent prediction for the impurity effect in this class of topological superconductors bearing…
Interfacial spin-orbit coupling in Josephson junctions offers an intriguing way to combine anomalous Hall and Josephson physics in a single device. We study theoretically how the superposition of both effects impacts superconductor/ferromagnetic insulator/superconductor junctions' transport properties. Transverse momentum-dependent skew tunneling of Cooper pairs through the spin-active ferromagnetic insulator interface creates sizable transverse Hall supercurrents, to which we refer as anomalous Josephson Hall effect currents. We generalize the Furusaki-Tsukada formula, which got initially est…
We investigate the effects of Andreev bound states due to the unconventional pairing on the inverse proximity effect of ferromagnet/superconductor junctions. Utilizing quasiclassical Eilenberger theory, we obtain the magnetization penetrating into the superconductor. We show that in a wide parameter range the direction of the induced magnetization is determined by two factors: whether Andreev bound states are present at the junction interface and the sign of the spin-mixing angle. In particular, when Andreev bound states appear at the interface, the direction of the induced magnetization is op…
The isotope effect in the superconducting transition temperature is anomalous if the isotope coefficient $α<0$ or $α>1/2$. In this work, we show that such anomalous behaviors can naturally arise within the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer framework if both phonon and non-phonon modes coexist. Different from the case of the standard Eliashberg theory (with only phonon) in which $α\le1/2$, the isotope coefficient can now take arbitrary values in the simultaneous presence of phonon and the other non-phonon mode. In particular, most strikingly, a pair-breaking phonon can give rise to large isotope coeffi…
We show that, in contrast with the usual electron-phonon Migdal-Eliashberg theory, the critical temperature Tc of an isotropic s-wave nonadiabatic superconductor is strongly reduced by the presence of diluted non-magnetic impurities. Our results suggest that the recently observed Tc-suppression driven by disorder in K3C60 [Phys. Rev. B vol.55, 3866 (1997)] and in Nd(2-x)CexCuO(4-delta) [Phys. Rev. B vol.58, 8800 (1998)] could be explained in terms of a nonadiabatic electron-phonon coupling. Moreover, we predict that the isotope effect on Tc has an impurity dependence qualitatively different fr…
In order to clarify that the Cooper pair in $β$-pyrochlore oxides is mediated by anharmonic oscillation of guest atom, i.e., rattling, we propose an experiment to detect anomalous isotope effect. In the formula of $T_{\rm c} \propto M^{-η}$, where $T_{\rm c}$ is superconducting transition temperature and $M$ denotes mass of the oscillator, it is found that the exponent $η$ is increased with the increase of anharmonicity of a potential for the guest atom. We predict that $η$ becomes larger than 1/2 in rattling-induced superconductor, in sharp contrast to $η=1/2$ for weak-coupling superconductiv…

We consider the origin of the anomalous Hall effect in a general model of a clean two-band chiral superconductor. Within the Kubo formalism we derive an analytic expression for the high-frequency ac Hall conductivity valid close to the critical temperature. This expression involves two distinct gauge-invariant time-reversal-odd bilinear (TROB) functions involving the pairing potential and its Hermitian conjugate. We argue that the existence of at least one of these TROBs generically implies a nonzero ac Hall conductivity. The TROBs allow us to clarify the roles of intra- and interband pairing,…
We theoretically study the charge conductance in anomalous Rashba metal (ARM)/superconductor junctions for various types of the pairing symmetries in the superconductor. The exotic state dubbed ARM, where one of the spin resolved Fermi surface is absent, is realized when the chemical potential is tuned both in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interaction (RSOI) and an exchange field. Although a fully polarized ferromagnet metal (FPFM) is also a system where the electron's spin degrees of a freedom is reduced to be half, the electrons in an ARM have distinct features from those in FPFM. For th…
The anomalous Hall effect for type-II superconductors is investigated by random walk theorem. It is shown that the origin of Hall anomaly is induced by the thermally activated vortex bundle flow (TAVBF) over the directional-dependent energy barrier formed by the Magus force, random collective pinning force, and strong pinning force inside the vortex bundles. The directional-dependent potential barrier of the vortex bundles renormalizes the Hall and longitudinal resistivities strongly. Under the framework of present theory, it is also shown that the Hall anomaly is universal for type-II superco…
We have experimentally investigated the density of states (DOS) in Nb/Ni (S/F) bilayers as a function of Ni thickness, $d_F$. Our thinnest samples show the usual DOS peak at $\pmΔ_0$, whereas intermediate-thickness samples have an anomalous ``double-peak'' structure. For thicker samples ($d_F \geq 3.5$ nm), we see an ``inverted'' DOS which has previously only been reported in superconductor/weak-ferromagnet structures. We analyze the data using the self-consistent non-linear Usadel equation and find that we are able to quantitatively fit the features at $\pmΔ_0$ if we include a large amount of…
Chiral superconductors exhibit novel transport properties that depend on the topology of the order parameter, topology of the Fermi surface, the spectrum of bulk and edge Fermionic excitations, and the structure of the impurity potential. In the case of electronic heat transport, impurities induce an anomalous (zero-field) thermal Hall conductivity that is easily orders of magnitude larger than the quantized edge contribution. The effect originates from branch-conversion scattering of Bogoliubov quasiparticles by the chiral order parameter, induced by potential scattering. The former transfers…
We performed an angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of the BiS2-based superconductor Nd(O,F)BiS2. Two small electron-like Fermi surfaces around X (pi, 0) are observed, which enclose 2.4% and 1.1% of the Brillouin zone area, respectively, corresponding to an electron doping of 7% per Bi site. The low-energy spectrum consists of a weakly-dispersing broad hump and a dispersive branch, which follows well the calculated band dispersion. This hump is drastically suppressed with increasing temperature, while the dispersive branch is essentially unaffected. The anomalous thermal effect ind…
After decades of explorations, suffering from low critical temperature and subtle nature, whether a metallic ground state exists in a two-dimensional system beyond Anderson localization is still a mystery. Supremely, phase coherence could be the key that unlocks its intriguing nature. This work reveals how quantum phase coherence evolves across bosonic superconductor-metal-insulator transitions via magneto-conductance quantum oscillations in high-Tc superconducting films. A robust intervening anomalous metallic state characterized by both resistance and oscillation amplitude saturations in the…
Based on existing theoretical model and by considering our longitudinal nonlinear response function, we derive a nonliear equation in which the mixed state Hall resistivity can be expressed as an analytical function of magnetic field, temperature and applied current. This equation enables one to compare quantitatively the experimental data with theoretical model. We also find some new scaling relations of the temperature and field dependency of Hall resistivity. The comparison between our theoretical curves and experimental data shows a fair agreement.
The observation of metallic ground states in a variety of two-dimensional electronic systems poses a fundamental challenge for the theory of electron fluids. Here, we analyze evidence for the existence of a regime, which we call the "anomalous metal regime," in diverse 2D superconducting systems driven through a quantum superconductor to metal transition (QSMT) by tuning physical parameters such as the magnetic field, the gate voltage in the case of systems with a MOSFET geometry, or the degree of disorder. The principal phenomenological observation is that in the anomalous metal, as a functio…
We show that the two-band nature of noncentrosymmetric superconductors leads naturally to an anomalous Josephson current appearing at zero phase difference in a clean noncentrosymmetric superconductor/ferromagnet/noncentrosymmetric superconductor junction. The two-band nature provides two sets of Andreev bound states which carry two supercurrents with different amplitudes. When the magnetization direction of the ferromagnet is suitably chosen, two supercurrents experience opposite phase shifts from the conventional sinusoidal current-phase relation. Then the total Josephson current results in …
The flux flow resistivity associated with purely viscous motion of vortices in high-quality MgB_2 was measured by microwave surface impedance. Flux flow resistivity exhibits unusual field dependence with strong enhancement at low field, which is markedly different to conventional s-wave superconductors. A crossover field which separates two distinct flux flow regimes having different flux flow resistivity slopes was clearly observed in H//ab-plane. The unusual H-dependence indicates that two very differently sized superconducting gaps in MgB_2 manifest in the vortex dynamics and almost equally…
The critical fluctuations of superconductors are discussed in a fixed dimension scaling suited to describe the type II regime. The gauge dependence of the anomalous dimension of the scalar field is stablished exactly from the Ward-Takahashi identities. Its fixed point value gives the $η$ critical exponent and it is shown that $η$ is gauge independent, as expected on physical grounds. In the scaling considered, $η$ is found to be zero at 1-loop order, while $ν\approx 0.63$. This result is just the 1-loop values for the XY model obtained in the fixed dimension renormalization group approach. It …
The anomalous Hall effect for type-II conventional and high-Tc superconductors is studied based upon the theory of thermally activated motion of vortex bundles jumping over the directional-dependent energy barrier. It is shown that the Hall anomaly is universal for type-II conventional and high-Tc superconductors as well as for superconducting bulk materials and thin films, provided certain conditions are satisfied. We find that the directional-dependent potential barrier of the vortex bundles renormalizes the Hall and longitudinal resistivities, and Hall anomaly for superconductors is induced…
We report experimental results of the field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance in samples of MgB2, produced by different methods. By sweeping the DC magnetic field at increasing and decreasing values, we have detected a magnetic hysteresis that can be ascribed to the different magnetic induction, due to the critical state of the fluxon lattice. The hysteresis observed in the bulk samples has an unusual shape, which cannot be justified in the framework of the critical-state models.
Resistivity saturation is found on both superconducting and insulating sides of an "avoided" magnetic-field-tuned superconductor-to-insulator transition (H-SIT) in a two-dimensional In/InO$_x$ composite, where the anomalous metallic behaviors cut off conductivity or resistivity divergence in the zero-temperature limit. The granular morphology of the material implies a system of Josephson junctions (JJ) with a broad distribution of Josephson coupling E$_J$ and charging energy E$_C$ , with a H-SIT determined by the competition between E$_J$ and E$_C$ . By virtue of self-duality across the true H…
The Josephson effect in p-wave superconductor / diffusive normal metal / p-wave superconductor junctions is studied theoretically. Amplitudes of Josephson currents are several orders of magnitude larger than those in s-wave junctions. Current-phase (J-ϕ) relations in low temperatures are close to those in ballistic junctions such as J\propto\sin(ϕ/2) and J\proptoϕeven in the presence of random impurity potentials. A cooperative effect between the midgap Andreev resonant states and the proximity effect causes such anomalous properties and is a character of the spin-triplet superconductor juncti…
We theoretically study the effects of spin-orbit interactions on symmetry of a Cooper pair in a spin-singlet d-wave superconductor in two-dimension. The pairing symmetry is analyzed in terms of the anomalous Green's function which is obtained by solving the Gor'kov equation analytically. A spin-orbit interaction induces a spin-triplet p-wave pairing correlation in a uniform superconductor. An odd-frequency spin-triplet s-wave pairing correlation appears at a surface of such superconductor as a result of breaking inversion symmetry locally. We also discuss a close relationship among the odd-fre…
We present a combined experimental and theoretical study of the evolution of the Fermi surface of the anomalous superconductor Pb$_{1-x}$Tl$_x$Te as a function of thallium concentration, drawing on a combination of magnetotransport measurements (Shubnikov de Haas oscillations and Hall coefficient), Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the electronic structure. Our results indicate that for Tl concentrations beyond a critical value the Fermi energy coincides with resonant impurity states in Pb$_{1-x}$Tl$_x$Te, and we rule out the…
The effect of the Doppler shift is studied in a model for the $α$-$β$ bands of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ consisting of two hybridized 1D bands. Assuming a superconducting gap with nodes in the diagonal directions, we examine the oscillation of the surface density of states and the thermal conductivity under a rotating magnetic field. Upon varying the strength of the hybridization, the oscillation in these quantities is found to exhibit 2D to 1D crossover. In the crossover regime, which corresponds to the actual Sr$_2$RuO$_4$, the thermal conductivity exhibits a two-fold-symmetry oscillation, while the fou…
We study the edge states for a quantum anomalous Hall system (QAHS) coupled with a spin-singlet s-wave superconductor through the proximity effect, and clarify the topological nature of them. When we consider a superconducting pair potential induced in the QAHS, there appear topological phases with nonzero Chern numbers, $i.e.$, ${\cal N}=1$ and ${\cal N}=2$, where Andreev bound states appear as chiral Majorana edge modes. We calculate the energy spectrum of the edge modes and the resulting local density of states. It is found that the degenerate chiral Majorana edge modes for ${\cal N}=2$ are…
Transport properties of Nd$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_{4+δ}$ single crystal films are investigated in magnetic fields $B$ up to 9T at $T$=(0.4-4.2)K. An analysis of normal state (at $B>B_{c2}$) Hall coefficient $R_H$$^n$ dependence on Ce doping takes us to a conclusion about the existence both of electron-like and hole-like contributions to transport in nominally electron-doped system. In accordance with $R_H$$^n$(x) analysis an anomalous sign reversal of Hall effect in mixed state at $B<B_{c2}$ may be ascribed to a flux-flow regime for two types of carriers with opposite charges.
With the recent discovery of the quantum anomalous Hall insulator (QAHI), which exhibits the conductive quantum Hall edge states without external magnetic field, it becomes possible to create a novel topological superconductor (SC) by introducing superconductivity into these edge states. In this case, two distinct topological superconducting phases with one or two chiral Majorana edge modes were theoretically predicted, characterized by Chern numbers (N ) of 1 and 2, respectively. We present spectroscopic evidence from Andreev reflection experiments for the presence of chiral Majorana modes in…
The existence of a {\it stable critical point}, separate from the Gaussian and XY critical points, of the Ginzburg-Landau theory for superconductors, is demonstrated by direct extraction via Monte-Carlo simulations, of a negative anomalous dimension $η_ϕ$ of a complex scalar field $ϕ$ forming a dual description of a neutral superfluid. The dual of the neutral superfluid is isomorphic to a charged superfluid coupled to a massless gauge-field. The anomalous scaling dimension of the superfluid order-field is positive, while we find that the anomalous dimension of the dual field is negative. The d…
We investigate the mutual influence of impurities in two-dimensional d-wave superconductors involving self-consistent solutions of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. The local order parameter suppression, the local density of states (LDOS) as well as the interference of impurity-induced structures are analyzed. We employ an impurity position averaging scheme for the DOS that does not neglect these interference effects, as the commonly used $T$-matrix approaches do.
We consider flux penetration to a 2D superconducting cylinder. We show that in the low field limit the kinetics is deterministic. In the strong field limit the dynamics becomes stochastic. Surprisingly the inhomogeneity in the cylinder reduces the level of stochasticity because of the predominance of Kelvin-Helmholtz vortices.
