In this paper we consider some global constructions of liftings of automorphic representations attached to some commuting pairs in the exceptional group $F_4$. We consider two families of integrals. The first uses the minimal representation on the double cover of $F_4$, and in the second we consider examples of integrals of descent type associated with unipotent orbits of $F_4$.
We consider periods of automorphic representations of adele groups defined by integrals along Gelfand subgroups. We define natural maps between local components of such periods and construct corresponding global maps using automorphic $L$-functions. This leads to an introduction of a global invariant of an automorphic representation arising from two such periods. We compute this invariant in some cases.
In this paper, we consider the $\SL(2)$ analogue of two well-known theorems about period integrals of automorphic forms on $\GL(2)$: one due to Harder-Langlands-Rapoport, and the other due to Waldspurger.
Let $F$ be a number field, and $\BA=\BA_F$. In this paper, first, we provide a family of global Arthur parameters confirming all parts of a general conjecture on the relation between the structure of Fourier coefficients and the structure of global Arthur parameters, given by Jiang in 2012. Then we extend a correspondence between certain automorphic forms on $Sp_{4n}(\BA)$ and $\wt{Sp}_{2n}(\BA)$, given by Ginzburg, Jiang and Soudry in 2012, to certain automorphic forms on $Sp_{4mn}(\BA)$ and $\wt{Sp}_{4mn \pm 2n}(\BA)$, using the same idea of considering compositions of automorphic descent ma…
In this paper we show a local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence for all unitary irreducible representations. We prove the global Jacquet-Langlands correspondence in characteristic zero. As consequences we obtain the multiplicity one and strong multiplicity one theorems for inner forms of GL(n) as well as a classification of the residual spectrum and automorphic representations in analogy with results proved by Moeglin-Waldspurger and Jacquet-Shalika for GL(n).
The endoscopic classification via the stable trace formula comparison provides certain character relations between irreducible cuspidal automorphic representations of classical groups and their global Arthur parameters, which are certain automorphic representations of general linear groups. It is a question of J. Arthur and W. Schmid that asks: How to construct concrete modules for irreducible cuspidal automorphic representations of classical groups in term of their global Arthur parameters? In this paper, we formulate a general construction of concrete modules, using Bessel periods, for cuspi…
In this paper, we study top Fourier coefficients of certain automorphic representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{A})$. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Jiang on top Fourier coefficients of isobaric automorphic representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{A})$ of form $$ Δ(τ_1, b_1) \boxplus Δ(τ_2, b_2) \boxplus \cdots \boxplus Δ(τ_r, b_r)\,, $$ where $Δ(τ_i,b_i)$'s are Speh representations in the discrete spectrum of $\mathrm{GL}_{a_ib_i}(\mathbb{A})$ with $τ_i$'s being unitary cuspidal representations of $\mathrm{GL}_{a_i}(\mathbb{A})$, and $n = \sum_{i=1}^r a_ib_i$. Endoscopic lifting i…
Let $G$ be a group and $H$ be a subgroup of $G$. The classical branching rule (or symmetry breaking) asks: For an irreducible representation $π$ of $G$, determine the occurrence of an irreducible representation $σ$ of $H$ in the restriction of $π$ to $H$. The reciprocal branching problem of this classical branching problem is to ask: For an irreducible representation $σ$ of $H$, find an irreducible representation $π$ of $G$ such that $σ$ occurs in the restriction of $π$ to $H$. For automorphic representations of classical groups, the branching problem has been addressed by the well-known globa…
In this paper, we decompose the space of nearly holomorphic Hilbert-Siegel automorphic forms as representations of the adele group under certain assumptions. We also give an application for classical holomorphic Hilbert-Siegel modular forms. In particular, we show the surjectivity of the global Siegel operator for certain congruence subgroups with large weights.
We study certain cases of convoluted Fourier coefficients of $GL_n$-automorphic functions. We establish identities that express them in terms of Fourier coefficients related to unipotent orbits. The most general case that is studied is $(n)\circ(k,2^{n-1})$. The conclusions for this case is only up to a conjecture that I state. However there are certain special cases and other examples that are not based on any conjecture.
In [J14], a conjecture was proposed on a relation between the global Arthur parameters and the structure of Fourier coefficients of the automorphic representations in the corresponding global Arthur packets. In this paper, we discuss the recent progress on this conjecture and certain problems which lead to better understanding of Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms. At the end, we extend a useful technical lemma to a few versions, which are more convenient for future applications.
Langlands has described the irreducible admissible representations of $T$, when $T$ is the group of points of an algebraic torus over a local field. Also, Langlands described the automorphic representations of $T_{\mathbb A}$ when $T_{\mathbb A}$ is the group of adelic points of an algebraic torus over a global field $F$. We describe irreducible (in the local setting) and automorphic (in the global setting) $ε$-genuine representations for covers of tori, also known as metaplectic tori, which arise from a framework of Brylinski and Deligne. In particular, our results include a description of sp…
Given a number field we construct a canonical Galois gerbe over it and show that its cohomology provides a bridge between the refined local endoscopy introduced in arXiv:1304.3292 and classical global endoscopy. As particular applications, we express the canonical adelic transfer factor that governs the stabilization of the Arthur-Selberg trace formula as a product of normalized local transfer factors, we give an explicit construction of the pairing between an adelic L-packet and the corresponding S-group (based on the conjectural pairings in the local setting) that is the essential ingredient…
We present a regularization procedure of period integrals of automorphic forms on a group $G$ over an arbitrary reductive subgroup $G' \subset G$. As a consequence we obtain an explicit $G'(\mathbb{A})$-invariant functional on the space of automorphic forms on $G$ whose exponents avoid certain prescribed hyperplanes. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition for convergence of period integrals of automorphic forms in terms of their exponents.
In [Ar13], Arthur classifies the automorphic discrete spectrum of symplectic groups up to global Arthur packets, based on the theory of endoscopy. It is an interesting and basic question to ask: which global Arthur packets contain no cuspidal automorphic representations? The investigation on this question can be regarded as a further development of the topics originated from the classical theory of singular automorphic forms. The results obtained yield a better understanding of global Arthur packets and of the structure of local unramified components of the cuspidal spectrum, and hence are clo…
In the theory of automorphic descents developed by Ginzburg, Rallis and Soudry in [GRS11], the structure of Fourier coefficients of the residual representations of certain special Eisenstein series plays important roles. Started from [JLZ13], the authors are looking for more general residual representations, which may yield more general theory of automorphic descents. In this paper, we investigate the structure of Fourier coefficients of certain residual representations of symplectic groups, corresponding to certain interesting families of global Arthur parameters. On one hand, the results par…
Langlands' beyond endoscopy proposal for establishing functoriality motivates interesting and concrete problems in the representation theory of algebraic groups. We study these problems in a setting related to the Langlands $L$-functions $L(s,π,\,\otimes^3),$ where $π$ is a cuspidal automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{A}_F)$ where $F$ is a global field.
Let $K$ be a global field of positive characteristic. Let $\infty$ be a fixed place of $K$. This paper gives an explicit isomorphism between the space of automorphic forms (resp. cusp forms) for $GL_{n+1}(K)$ that transform like the special representations and certain spaces of harmonic cochains (resp. those with finite support) defined on the Bruhat-Tits building of $GL_{n+1}(K_\infty)$.
We study the structures of Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on symplectic groups based on their local and global structures related to Arthur parameters. This is a first step towards the general conjecture on the relation between the structure of Fourier coefficients and Arthur parameters given by the first named author in [J14].
We consider invariant hyperfunctions associated to automorphic forms on the upper half plane. We give two interpretations of the period function of Maass forms introduced by Lewis. The first interpretation shows that the period function arises from the explicit description of a representative of the hyperfunction associated to the Maass form. Under certain conditions, automorphic forms determine cohomology classes in a cohomology group with values in the hyperfunctions with bounded support on the line. A map from hyperfunctions to holomorphic functions leads to a second, cohomological, interpr…
We show that certain paramodular cuspidal automorphic irreducible representations of $\mathrm{GSp}(4,\mathbb{A}_\mathbb{Q})$, which are not CAP, are globally generic. This implies a multiplicity one theorem for paramodular cuspidal automorphic representations. Our proof relies on a reasonable hypothesis concerning the non-vanishing of central values of automorphic $L$-series.
We introduce the notion of rigidity for automorphic representations of groups over global function fields. We construct the Langlands parameters of rigid automorphic representations explicitly as local systems over open curves. We expect these local systems to be rigid. Examples of rigid automorphic representations from previous work are reviewed and more examples for $GL_{2}$ are discussed in details.
In arXiv:2011.03313, the author has constructed a category of abstractly automorphic representations for $\mathrm{GL}(2)$ over a function field $F$. This is a symmetric monoidal Abelian category, constructed with the goal of having the irreducible automorphic representations as its simple objects. The goal of this paper is to systematically study this category. We will prove several structural theorems about this category. We will show that it admits an adjoint pair $(r^\mathrm{aut},i^\mathrm{aut})$ of automorphic parabolic restriction and induction functors, respectively. This will allow us t…
In this paper we investigate arithmetic properties of automorphic forms on the group G' = GL_m/D, for a central division-algebra D over an arbitrary number field F. The results of this article are generalizations of results in the split case, i.e., D=F, by Shimura, Harder, Waldspurger and Clozel for square-integrable automorphic forms and also by Franke and Franke-Schwermer for general automorphic representations. We also compare our theorems on automorphic forms of the group G' to statements on automorphic forms of its split form using the global Jacquet-Langlands correspondence developed by …
In arXiv:1208.1945, Shin and Templier proved certain equidistribution bounds on local components of certain families of automorphic representations. We extend their weight-aspect results to families of automorphic representations where the Archimedean component is restricted to a single discrete-series representation instead of an entire $L$-packet. We do this by using a so-called "hyperendoscopy" version of the stable trace formula developed by Ferrari. The main technical difficulties are defining a version of hyperendoscopy that works for groups without simply connected derived subgroup and …
We propose a new method to construct rigid $G$-automorphic representations and rigid $\widehat{G}$-local systems for reductive groups $G$. The construction involves the notion of euphotic representations, and the proof for rigidity involves the geometry of certain Hessenberg varieties.
This paper describes the lifting of automorphic characters of $\GO(3)(\A)$ to $\SLT(\A)$. It does so by matching the image of this lift with the lift of automorphic characters from $\GO(1)(\A)$ to $\SLT(\A)$. Our matching actually gives a matching of individual automorphic forms, and not just of representation spaces. Let $\V$ be a $3-$ dimensional quadratic vector space and $\U$ a certain $1-$ dimensional quadratic space. To an automorphic form $I_{\V}(χ,ϕ)$ determined by the Schwartz function $ϕ\in \Sc(\V(\A))$ in the lift of the character $χ$ we match an automorphic form $I_{\U}(μ,ϕ_{0})$ d…
In this article, we improve our main results from \emph{Chow groups and $L$-derivatives of automorphic motives for unitary groups} in two direction: First, we allow ramified places in the CM extension $E/F$ at which we consider representations that are spherical with respect to a certain special maximal compact subgroup, by formulating and proving an analogue of the Kudla--Rapoport conjecture for exotic smooth Rapoport--Zink spaces. Second, we lift the restriction on the components at split places of the automorphic representation, by proving a more general vanishing result on certain cohomolo…
Motivated by known examples of global integrals which represent automorphic L-functions, this paper initiates the study of a certain two-dimensional array of global integrals attached to any reductive algebraic group, indexed by maximal parabolic subgroups in one direction and by unipotent conjugacy classes in the other. Fourier coefficients attached to unipotent classes, Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of automorphic representations, and an identity which, empirically, appears to constrain the unfolding process are presented in detail with examples selected from the exceptional groups. Two new Eul…
We prove a refinement of the global Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture proposed by Ichino-Ikeda and N. Harris for unitary groups under some local conditions. We need to assume some expected properties of L-packets and some part of the local Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture.
We use results about Fourier coefficients appearing in [T] (and some more obtained here), to obtain information for certain among the integrals of the form $$I=\int_{GL_n(\kkk)Z_n(\A)\s GL_n(\A)}φ(g)ϕ(g)\F(E)(\tj(g))dg$$ where: $\A$ is the adele ring of a number field $\kkk$; $φ$ is a $GL_n(\A)$-cuspidal automorphic form; $ϕ$ is a $GL_n(\A)$-automorphic function (even the trivial for some results); $E$ is a $GL_{N}(\A)$-automorphic form for a multiple $N$ of $n$; $\F(E)$ is a Fourier coefficient of $E$ for certain choices of additive functions $\F$ in a set $\BBnk[N]$ which we defined in $[T];…
Let $M=GL_{r_1}\times\cdots\times GL_{r_k}\subseteq GL_r$ be a Levi subgroup of $GL_r$, where $r=r_1+\cdots+r_k$, and $\tilde{M}$ its metaplectic preimage in the metaplectic cover $\tilde{GL}_r$ of $GL_r$. For automorphic representations $π_1,\dots,π_k$ of $\tilde{GL}_{r_1}(\A),\dots,\tilde{GL}_{r_k}(\A)$, we construct an automorphic representation $π$ of $\tilde{M}(\A)$ which can be considered as the "tensor product" of the representations $π_1,\dots,π_k$. This is the global analogue of the metaplectic tensor product defined by P. Mezo in the sense that locally at each place $v$, $π_v$ is equ…
In this paper, a construction to imitate the Bernstein-Zelevinsky derivative for automorphic representations on $GL_n(\mathbb{A})$ is introduced. We will later consider the induced representation \[I(τ_1,τ_2;\underline{s}) = \mathrm{Ind}_{P_{[n_1,n_2]}}^{G_n}(Δ(τ_1,n_1)|\cdot|^{s_1}\boxtimes Δ(τ_2,n_2)|\cdot|^{s_2}).\] from the discrete spectrum representations of $GL_n(\mathbb{A})$, and apply our method to study the degenerate Whittaker coefficients of the Eisenstein series constructed from such a representation as well as of its residues. This method can be used to reprove the results on the…
Many important analytic statements about automorphic forms, such as the analytic continuation of certain L-functions, rely on the well-known rapid decay of K-finite cusp forms on Siegel sets. We extend this here to prove a more general decay statement along sets much larger than Siegel sets, and furthermore state and prove the decay for smooth but not necessarily K-finite cusp forms. We also state a general theorem about the convergence of Rankin-Selberg integrals involving unipotent periods, closing a gap in the literature on L-functions. These properties serve as the analytic basis of a new …
We show that Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms attached to minimal or next-to-minimal automorphic representations of ${\mathrm{SL}}_n(\mathbb{A})$ are completely determined by certain highly degenerate Whittaker coefficients. We give an explicit formula for the Fourier expansion, analogously to the Piatetski-Shapiro-Shalika formula. In addition, we derive expressions for Fourier coefficients associated to all maximal parabolic subgroups. These results have potential applications for scattering amplitudes in string theory.
We give a fully explicit description of Lie algebra derivatives (generalizing raising and lowering operators) for representations of SL(3,R) in terms of a basis of Wigner functions. This basis is natural from the point of view of principal series representations, as well as computations in the analytic theory of automorphic forms (e.g., with Whittaker functions). The method is based on the Clebsch-Gordan multiplication rule for Wigner functions, and applies to other Lie groups whose maximal compact subgroup is isogenous to a product of SU(2) and U(1) factors. As an application, we give a compl…
Let $G$ be a split semisimple group over a function field. We prove the temperedness at unramified places of automorphic representations of $G$, subject to a local assumption at one place, stronger than supercuspidality, and assuming the existence of cyclic base change with good properties. Our method relies on the geometry of $\operatorname{Bun}_G$. It is independent of the work of Lafforgue on the global Langlands correspondence.
We prove a generalization to the totally real field case of the Waldspurger's formula relating the Fourier coefficient of a half integral weight form and the central value of the L-function of an integral weight form. Our proof is based on a new interpretation of Waldspurger's formula in terms of equality between global distributions. As applications we generalize the Kohnen-Zagier formula for holomorphic forms and prove the equivalence of the Ramanujan conjecture for half integral weight forms and a case of the Lindelof hypothesis for integral weight forms. We also study the Kohnen space in t…
Let $π$ be an irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation of a quasi-split unitary group ${\rm U}_{\mathfrak n}$ defined over a number field $F$. Under the assumption that $π$ has a generic global Arthur parameter, we establish the non-vanishing of the central value of $L$-functions, $L(\frac{1}{2},π\timesχ)$, with a certain automorphic character $χ$ of ${\rm U}_1$, for the case of ${\mathfrak n}=2,3,4$, and for the general ${\mathfrak n}\geq 5$ by assuming a conjecture on certain refined properties of global Arthur packets. In consequence, we obtain some simultaneous non-vanishing results…
We prove a full global Jacquet-Langlands correspondence between GL(n) and division algebras over global fields of non zero characteristic. If $D$ is a central division algebra of dimension $n^2$ over a global field $F$ of non zero characteristic, we prove that there exists an injective map from the set of automorphic square integrable representations of the multiplicative group of $D$ to the set of automorphic square integrable representations of GL_n(F), compatible at all places with the local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence for unitary representations. We characterize the image of the map. …
Let $Π$ be a cuspidal automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}(\mathbb{A_Q})$ and let $p$ be an odd prime at which $Π$ is unramified. In a recent work, Barrera, Dimitrov and Williams constructed possibly unbounded $p$-adic $L$-functions interpolating complex $L$-values of $Π$ in the non-ordinary case. Under certain assumptions, we construct two \textit{bounded} $p$-adic $L$-functions for $Π$, thus extending an earlier work of Rockwood by relaxing the Pollack condition. Using Langlands local-global compatibility, we define signed Selmer groups over the $p$-adic cyclotomic extension of $\…
This article grew out of my talk in "The Legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan" conference where I spoke about some techniques to prove algebraicity results for the special values of symmetric cube L-functions attached to the Ramanujan Δ-function. If one wishes to compare these different techniques, then one needs to compare various automorphic periods attached to the symmetric cube transfer of Δ. Motivated by this problem, in this article we provide comparison results for Whittaker-Betti periods, Shalika-Betti periods and certain relative periods attached to a given cohomological cuspidal automorphic…
We study Fourier coefficients of $GL_n(\A)$-automorphic functions $ϕ$, for $\A$ being the adele group of a number field $\kkk$. Let FC be an abbreviation for such a Fourier coefficient (and FCs for plural). Roughly speaking, in the present paper we process FCs by iteratively using the operations: Fourier expansions, certain exchanges of Fourier expansions, and conjugations. In Theorem 3.1 we express any FC in terms of---degenerate in many cases---Whittaker FCs. For FCs obtained from the trivial FC by choosing a certain "generic" term in each Fourier expansion involved, we establish a shortcut …
This paper proves the existence of global rational structures on spaces of cusp forms of general reductive groups. We identify cases where the constructed rational structures are optimal, which includes the case of GL($n$). As an application, we deduce the existence of a natural set of periods attached to cuspidal automorphic representations of GL($n$). This has consequences for the arithmetic of special values of $L$-functions that we discuss in subsequent articles. In the course of proving our results, we lay the foundations for a general theory of Harish-Chandra modules over arbitrary field…
We investigate Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on split simply-laced Lie groups G. We show that for automorphic representations of small Gelfand-Kirillov dimension the Fourier coefficients are completely determined by certain degenerate Whittaker vectors on G. Although we expect our results to hold for arbitrary simply-laced groups, we give complete proofs only for G=SL(3) and G=SL(4). This is based on a method of Ginzburg that associates Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms with nilpotent orbits of G. Our results complement and extend recent results of Miller and Sahi. We also …
We study the question of Eulerianity (factorizability) for Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms, and we prove a general transfer theorem that allows one to deduce the Eulerianity of certain coefficients from that of another coefficient. We also establish a `hidden' invariance property of Fourier coefficients. We apply these results to minimal and next-to-minimal automorphic representations, and deduce Eulerianity for a large class of Fourier and Fourier-Jacobi coefficients. In particular, we prove Eulerianity for parabolic Fourier coefficients with characters of maximal rank for a class o…
For any reductive group G over a global function field, we use the cohomology of G-shtukas with multiple modifications and the geometric Satake equivalence to prove the global Langlands correspondence for G in the "automorphic to Galois" direction. Moreover we obtain a canonical decomposition of the spaces of cuspidal automorphic forms indexed by global Langlands parameters. The proof does not rely at all on the Arthur-Selberg trace formula.
Let F be a global field and A its ring of adeles. Let G:=SL(2). We study the bilinear form B on the space of K-finite smooth compactly supported functions on G(A )/G(F) defined by the formula B (f,g):=B'(f,g)-(M^{-1}CT (f),CT (g)), where B' is the usual scalar product, CT is the constant term operator, and M is the standard intertwiner. This form is natural from the viewpoint of the geometric Langlands program. To justify this claim, we provide a dictionary between the classical and "geometric" theory of automorphic forms. We also show that the form B is related to S. Schieder's Picard-Lefsche…
