For a generic $L$-parameter of $U(n)\times U(n)$, it is conjectured that there is a unique representation in their associated relevant Vogan $L$-packet which produces the unique Fourier-Jacobi model. We investigated this conjecture for some non-generic $L$-parameters of $U(3)\times U(3)$ and discovered that this conjecture is still true for some non-generic $L$-parameter and false for some non-generic $L$-parameter. In the case when it holds, we specified such representation under the local Langlands correspondence for unitary group.
In this paper we prove Vogan's conjecture on Arthur packets for general linear groups over $p$-adic fields, building on earlier work. The proof uses a special case of endoscopic lifting, adapted from the 1992 book by Adams, Barbasch and Vogan, where it was articulated for real groups.
In this paper we establish the endoscopic classification of tempered representations of quasi-split unitary groups over local fields, and the endoscopic classification of the discrete automorphic spectrum of quasi-split unitary groups over global number fields. The method is analogous to the work of Arthur on orthogonal and symplectic groups, based on the theory of endoscopy and the comparison of trace formulas on unitary groups and general linear groups.
Let $G=\mathbf{G}(\mathbb{R})$ be the group of real points of a quasi-split connected reductive algebraic group defined over $\mathbb{R}$. Assume furthermore that $G$ is a classical group (symplectic, special orthogonal or unitary). We show that the packets of irreducible unitary cohomological representations defined by Adams and Johnson in 1987 coincide with the ones defined recently by J. Arthur in his work on the classification of the discrete automorphic spectrum of classical groups (C.-P. Mok for unitary groups). For this, we compute the endoscopic transfer of the stable distributions on …
The endoscopic classification via the stable trace formula comparison provides certain character relations between irreducible cuspidal automorphic representations of classical groups and their global Arthur parameters, which are certain automorphic representations of general linear groups. It is a question of J. Arthur and W. Schmid that asks: How to construct concrete modules for irreducible cuspidal automorphic representations of classical groups in term of their global Arthur parameters? In this paper, we formulate a general construction of concrete modules, using Bessel periods, for cuspi…
This paper begins the project of defining Arthur packets of all unipotent representations for the $p$-adic exceptional group $G_2$. Here we treat the most interesting case by defining and computing Arthur packets with component group $S_3$. We also show that the distributions attached to these packets are stable, subject to a hypothesis. This is done using a self-contained microlocal analysis of simple equivariant perverse sheaves on the moduli space of homogeneous cubics in two variables. In forthcoming work we will treat the remaining unipotent representations and their endoscopic classifica…
Following the idea of [GJS09] for orthogonal groups, we introduce a new family of period integrals for cuspidal automorphic representations $σ$ of unitary groups and investigate their relation with the occurrence of a simple global Arthur parameter $(χ,b)$ in the global Arthur parameter $ψ_σ$ associated to $σ$, by the endoscopic classification of Arthur ([Art13], [Mok13], [KMSW14]). The argument uses the theory of theta correspondence. This can be viewed as a part of the $(χ,b)$-theory outlined in [Jia14] and can be regarded as a refinement of the theory of theta correspondences and poles of c…
Let σ\otimesπ be a supercuspidal representation of SO(2n) \times GL(2n) over a p-adic field with π selfdual, where SO(2n) stands for a quasisplit even special orthogonal group. In order to study its normalized parabolic induction to SO(6n), Goldberg and Shahidi defined a pairing R between the matrix coefficients of σ and π which controls the residue of the standard intertwining operator. The elliptic part of R is conjectured to be related to twisted endoscopic transfer. Based on Arthur's endoscopic classification and Spallone's improvement of Goldberg-Shahidi program, we will verify some of th…
In this article we propose a geometric description of Arthur packets for $p$-adic groups using vanishing cycles of perverse sheaves. Our approach is inspired by the 1992 book by Adams, Barbasch and Vogan on the Langlands classification of admissible representations of real groups and follows the direction indicated by Vogan in his 1993 paper on the Langlands correspondence. Using vanishing cycles, we introduce and study a functor from the category of equivariant perverse sheaves on the moduli space of certain Langlands parameters to local systems on the regular part of the conormal bundle for …
We study parabolically induced representations for $GSpin_m(F)$ with $F$ a $p$--adic field of characteristic zero. The Knapp-Stein $R$--groups are described and shown to be elementary two groups. We show the associated cocycle is trivial proving multiplicity one for induced representations. We classify the elliptic tempered spectrum. For $GSpin_{2n+1}(F)$, we describe the Arthur (Endoscopic) $R$--group attached to Langlands parameters, and show these are isomorphic to the corresponding Knapp-Stein $R$--groups.
This paper generalizes the GGP conjectures which were earlier formulated for tempered or more generally generic L-packets to Arthur packets, especially for the nongeneric L-packets arising from Arthur parameters. The paper introduces the key notion of a relevant pair of A-parameters which governs the branching laws for $GL_n$ and all classical groups over both local fields and global fields. It plays a role for all the branching problems studied in our earlier work including Bessel models and Fourier-Jacobi models.
