Let $Λ$ be a basic finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field, with the property that the square of the Jacobson radical $J$ vanishes. We determine the irreducible components of the module variety $\text{Mod}_{\bf d}(Λ)$ for any dimension vector $\bf d$. Our description leads to a count of the components in terms of the underlying Gabriel quiver. A closed formula for the number of components when $Λ$ is local extends existing counts for the two-loop quiver to quivers with arbitrary finite sets of loops.
For any algebra $Λ$ with $J^2 = 0$, our criteria for identifying the components of $\text{Mod}_{\bf d}(Λ)$ permit us to characterize the modules parametrized by the individual irreducible components. Focusing on such a component, we explore generic properties of the corresponding modules by establishing a geometric bridge between the algebras with zero radical square on one hand and their stably equivalent hereditary counterparts on the other. The bridge links certain closed subvarieties of Grassmannians parametrizing the modules with fixed top over the two types of algebras. By way of this connection, we transfer results of Kac and Schofield from the hereditary case to algebras of Loewy length $2$. Finally, we use the transit of information to show that any algebra of Loewy length $2$ which enjoys the dense orbit property in the sense of Chindris, Kinser and Weyman has finite representation type.
In this paper, we show that for an algebra $Λ$ with radical square zero and an indecomposable $Λ$-module $M$ such that $Λ$ is Gorenstein of finite type or $τM$ is $τ$-rigid, $M$ is $τ$-rigid if and only if the first two projective terms of a minimal projective resolution of $M$ have no on-zero direct summands in common. We also determined all $τ$-tilting modules for Nakayama algebras with radical square zero. Moreover, by giving a construction theorem we show that a basic connected radical square zero algebra admitting a unique $τ$-tilting module is local.
Let A be a connected left artinian ring with radical square zero and with n simple modules. If A is not self-injective, then we show that any module M with Ext^i(M,A) = 0 for 1 \le i \le n + 1 is projective. We also determine the structure of the artin algebras with radical square zero and n simple modules which have a non-projective module M such that Ext^i(M,A) = 0 for 1 \le i \le n.
We investigate the inequality ${\rm Findim}\ \! Λ^{op} \leq {\rm dell}\ \! Λ$ between the finitistic dimension and the delooping level of an Artin algebra $Λ$, and whether equality holds in general. We prove that equality ${\rm Findim}\ \! Λ^{op} = {\rm dell}\ \! Λ$ always holds for Artin algebras with radical square zero.
Let $Q$ be a finite quiver and $Λ$ be the radical square zero algebra of $Q$ over a field. We give a full and dense functor from the category of reduced differential projective modules over $Λ$ to the category of representations of the opposite of $Q$. If moreover $Q$ has oriented cycles and $Q$ is not a basic cycle, we prove that the algebra of dual numbers over $Λ$ is not virtually Gorenstein.
To an artin algebra with radical square zero, a regular algebra in the sense of von Neumann and a family of invertible bimodules over the regular algebra are associated. These data describe completely, as a triangulated category, the singularity category of the artin algebra. A criterion on the Hom-finiteness of the singularity category is given in terms of the valued quiver of the artin algebra.
Let $Λ$ be a radical square zero Nakayama algebra with $n$ simple modules and let $Γ$ be the Auslander algebra of $Λ$. Then every indecomposable direct summand of a tilting $Γ$-module is either simple or projective. Moreover, if $Λ$ is self-injective, then the number of tilting $Γ$-modules is $2^n$; otherwise, the number of tilting $Γ$-modules is $2^{n-1}$.
For algebras with radical square zero, we give a combinatorial description to the Tate-Hochschild cohomology. We compute the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the Tate-Hochschild cohomology for some classes of such algebras.
In this paper, we give a characterization of tau-rigid-finite algebras with radical square zero in terms of the separated quivers, which is an analog of a famous characterization of representation-finite algebras with radical square zero.
We determine the derived representation types of algebras with radical square zero and give a description of the indecomposable objects in their bounded derived categories.
We describe the combinatorics of the cell structure of the tensor category of bimodules over a radical square zero Nakayama algebra. This accounts to an explicit description of left, right, and two-sided cells.
We prove that the Crisp and Gow's quiver operation on a finite quiver Q produces a new quiver Q' with fewer vertices, such that the finite dimensional algebras kQ/J^2 and kQ'/J^2 are singularly equivalent. This operation is a general quiver operation which includes as specific examples some operations which arise naturally in symbolic dynamics (e.g., (elementary) strong shift equivalent, (in-out) splitting, source elimination, etc.).
We study the behaviour of the Igusa-Todorov functions for radical square zero algebras. We show that the left and the right $ϕ$-dimensions coincide, in this case. Some general results are given, but we concentrate more in the radical square zero algebras. Our study is based on two notions of hearth and member of a quiver $Q$. We give some bounds for the $ϕ$ and the $ψ$-dimensions and we describe the algebras for which the bound of $ψ$ is obtained. We also exhibit modules for which the $ϕ$-dimension is realised.
Koszul duality and covering theory are combined to realise the bounded derived category D of an algebra with radical square zero as a certain orbit category of the bounded derived category of finitely presented representations of an associated infinite quiver. As a consequence, the possible shapes of the connected components of the Auslander--Reiten quiver of D are described.
We study the Lie module structure given by the Gerstenhaber bracket on the Hochschild cohomology groups of a monomial algebra with radical square zero. The description of such Lie module structure will be given in terms of the combinatorics of the quiver. The Lie module structure will be related to the classification of finite dimensional modules over simple Lie algebras when the quiver is given by the two loops and the ground field is the complex numbers.
We give a characterization of radical square zero bound quiver algebras $\mathbf{k} Q/\mathcal{J}^2$ that admit $n$-cluster tilting subcategories and $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategories in terms of $Q$. We also show that if $Q$ is not of cyclically oriented extended Dynkin type $\tilde{A}$, then the poset of $n$-cluster tilting subcategories of $\mathbf{k} Q/\mathcal{J}^2$ with relation given by inclusion forms a lattice isomorphic to the opposite of the lattice of divisors of an integer which depends on $Q$.
We start with observing that the only connected finite dimensional algebras with finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable bimodules are the quotients of the path algebras of uniformly oriented $A_n$-quivers modulo the radical square zero relations. For such algebras we study the (finitary) tensor category of bimodules. We describe the cell structure of this tensor category, determine existing adjunctions between its $1$-morphisms and find a minimal generating set with respect to the tensor structure. We also prove that, for the algebras mentioned above, every simple transitive $2$-r…
Let $\La$ be an elementary locally bounded linear category over a field with radical squared zero. We shall show that the bounded derived category $D^b(\ModbLa)$ of finitely supported left $\La$-modules admits a Galois covering which is the bounded derived category of almost finitely co-presented representations of a gradable quiver. Restricting to the bounded derived category $D^b({\rm mod}^b\hspace{-2pt}\La)$ of finite dimensional left $\La$-modules, we shall be able to describe its indecomposable objects, obtain a complete description of the shapes of its Auslander-Reiten components, and cl…
To study the set of torsion classes of a finite dimensional basic algebra, we use a decomposition, called sign-decomposition, parametrized by elements of $\{\pm1\}^n$ where $n$ is the number of simple modules. If $A$ is an algebra with radical square zero, then for each $ε\in \{\pm1\}^n$ there is a hereditary algebra $A_ε^!$ with radical square zero and a bijection between the set of torsion classes of $A$ associated to $ε$ and the set of faithful torsion classes of $A_ε^!$. Furthermore, this bijection preserves the property of being functorially finite. As an application in $τ$-tilting theory…
We show that an artin algebra having at most three radical layers of infinite projective dimension has finite finitistic dimension, generalizing the known result for algebras with vanishing radical cube.
We study the relationship between the central ideals and the Jacobson radicals of blocks of group algebras. In particular, we characterize the blocks with the property that the square of the radical is a non-zero central ideal. Moreover, we also consider the blocks with the property that the cube of the radical becomes a non-zero central ideal.
We prove that over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not two the problems of classifying pairs of sesquilinear forms in which the second is Hermitian, pairs of bilinear forms in which the second is symmetric (skew-symmetric), and local algebras with zero cube radical and square radical of dimension 2 are hopeless since each of them reduces to the problem of classifying pairs of n-by-n matrices up to simultaneous similarity.
For a finite quiver without sources or sinks, we prove that the homotopy category of acyclic complexes of injective modules over the corresponding finite dimensional algebra with radical square zero is triangle equivalent to the derived category of the Leavitt path algebra viewed as a differential graded algebra with trivial differential, which is further triangle equivalent to the stable category of Gorenstein projective modules over the trivial extension algebra of a von Neumann regular algebra by an invertible bimodule. A related, but different, result for the homotopy category of acyclic c…
In order to find a suitable expression of an arbitrary square matrix over an arbitrary finite commutative ring, we prove that every such a matrix is always representable as a sum of a potent matrix and a nilpotent matrix of order at most two when the Jacobson radical of the ring has zero-square. This somewhat extends results of ours in Lin. & Multilin. Algebra (2021) established for matrices considered on arbitrary fields. Our main theorem also improves on recent results due to Abyzov et al. in Mat. Zametki (2017), Šter in Lin. Algebra & Appl. (2018) and Shitov in Indag. Math. (2019).
We prove that the problems of classifying triples of symmetric or skew-symmetric matrices up to congruence, local commutative associative algebras with zero cube radical and square radical of dimension 3, and Lie algebras with central commutator subalgebra of dimension 3 are hopeless since each of them reduces to the problem of classifying pairs of n-by-n matrices up to simultaneous similarity.
We exploit singular equivalences between artin algebras, that are induced from certain functors between the stable module categories. Such functors are called pre-triangle equivalences. We construct two pre-triangle equivalences connecting the stable module category over a quadratic monomial algebra and the one over an algebra with radical square zero. Consequently, we obtain an explicit singular equivalence between the two algebras.
Let $Λ$ be a radical square zero algebra of a Dynkin quiver and let $Γ$ be the Auslander algebra of $Λ$. Then the number of tilting right $Γ$-modules is $2^{m-1}$ if $Λ$ is of $A_{m}$ type for $m\geq 1$. Otherwise, the number of tilting right $Γ$-modules is $2^{m-3}\times14$ if $Λ$ is either of $D_{m}$ type for $m\geq 4$ or of $E_{m}$ type for $m=6,7,8$.
We study the homotopy category $ K(\Inj A)$ of all injective modules over a finite dimensional algebra $A$ with discrete derived category. We give a classification of the indecomposable objects of $ K(\Inj A)$ for any radical square zero self-injective algebra $A$. In particular, every indecomposable object is endofinite.
