We prove some interesting multiplicative relations which hold between the coefficients of the logarithmic derivatives obtained in a few simple ways from $\mathbb{F}_q$-linear formal power series. Since the logarithmic derivatives connect power sums to elementary symmetric functions via the Newton identities, we establish, as applications, new identities between important quantities of function field arithmetic, such as the Bernoulli-Carlitz fractions and power sums as well as their multi-variable generalizations. Resulting understanding of their factorizations has arithmetic significance, as well as applications to function field zeta and multizeta values evaluations and relations between them. Using specialization/generalization arguments, we provide much more general identities on linear forms providing a switch between power sums for positive and negative powers.
Roughly speaking, the spectrum of multiplicative functions is the set of all possible mean values. In this paper, we are interested in the spectra of multiplicative functions supported over powerful numbers. We prove that its real logarithmic spectrum takes values from $- \sqrt{2} / (4 + \sqrt{2}) = -0.26160...$ to $1$ while it is known that the logarithmic spectrum of real multiplicative functions over all natural numbers takes values from $0$ to $1$. In the course of this study, we correct a proof of Granville and Soundararajan concerning contribution of small primes in the study of mean val…
We study logarithmically averaged binary correlations of bounded multiplicative functions $g_1$ and $g_2$. A breakthrough on these correlations was made by Tao, who showed that the correlation average is negligibly small whenever $g_1$ or $g_2$ does not pretend to be any twisted Dirichlet character, in the sense of the pretentious distance for multiplicative functions. We consider a wider class of real-valued multiplicative functions $g_j$, namely those that are uniformly distributed in arithmetic progressions to fixed moduli. Under this assumption, we obtain a discorrelation estimate, showing…
The GUE Hypothesis, which concerns the distribution of zeros of the Riemann zeta-function, is used to evaluate some integrals involving the logarithmic derivative of the zeta-function. Some connections are shown between the GUE Hypothesis and other conjectures.
Faulhuber and Steinerberger conjectured that the logarithmic derivative of $\vartheta_4$ has the property that $y^2\,\vartheta_4'(y)/\vartheta_4(y)$ is strictly decreasing and strictly convex. In this small note, we prove this conjecture.
We construct (generalized) logarithmic derivatives for general n-dimensional local fields K of mixed characteristics (0,p) in which p is not necessarily a prime element with residue field k such that [k:k^p]=p^{n-1}. For the construction of the logarithmic derivative map, we define n-dimensional rings of overconvergent series and show that - as in the 1-dimensional case - they can be interpreted as functions converging on some annulus of the open unit p-adic disc. Using the generalized logarithmic derivative, we give a new construction of Kato's n-dimensional dual exponential map.
Let $g_0,\dots,g_k: {\bf N} \to {\bf D}$ be $1$-bounded multiplicative functions, and let $h_0,\dots,h_k \in {\bf Z}$ be shifts. We consider correlation sequences $f: {\bf N} \to {\bf Z}$ of the form $$ f(a):= \widetilde{\lim}_{m \to \infty} \frac{1}{\log ω_m} \sum_{x_m/ω_m \leq n \leq x_m} \frac{g_0(n+ah_0) \dots g_k(n+ah_k)}{n} $$ where $1 \leq ω_m \leq x_m$ are numbers going to infinity as $m \to \infty$, and $\widetilde{\lim}$ is a generalised limit functional extending the usual limit functional. We show a structural theorem for these sequences, namely that these sequences $f$ are the uni…
We prove a formula for the limit of logarithmic derivatives of zeta functions in families of global fields with an explicit error term. This can be regarded as a rather far reaching generalization of the explicit Brauer-Siegel theorem both for number fields and function fields.

We introduce a class of multiplicative functions in which each function satisfies some statistic conditions, and then prove that above functions are not correlated with finite degree polynomial nilsequences. Besides, we give two applications of this result. One is that the twisting of coefficients of automorphic $L$-function on $GL_m (m \geq 2)$ and polynomial nilsequences has logarithmic decay; the other is that the mean value of the Möbius function, coefficients of automorphic $L$-function and polynomial nilsequences also has logarithmic decay.
We derive approximate formulas for the logarithmic de- rivative of the Selberg and Ruelle zeta functions over compact, even- dimensional, locally symmetric spaces of rank one. The obtained for- mulas are given in terms of the zeta-singularities.
We study the distributions of values of the logarithmic derivatives of the Dedekind zeta functions on a fixed vertical line. The main object is determining and investigating the density functions of such value-distributions for any algebraic number field. We construct the density functions as the Fourier inverse transformations of certain functions represented by infinite products that come from the Euler products of the Dedekind zeta functions.
We investigate the distribution of the logarithmic derivative of the Riemann zeta-function on the line Re(s)=σ, where σ, lies in a certain range near the critical line σ=1/2. For such σ, we show that the distribution of ζ'/ζ(s) converges to a two-dimensional Gaussian distribution in the complex plane. Upper bounds on the rate of convergence to the Gaussian distribution are also obtained.
In this work we continue to study the properties of polynomials of binomial type and their canonical continuations to the complex index by exploring the properties of transformation T:=1/dlog which acts on formal power series $f(x)$ of the form $x+x^2\mathbb{C}[[x]]$.
In this paper, we study the continued fraction y(s,r) which satisfies the equation y(s,r)y(s+2r,r)=(s+1)(s+2r-1) for r > 1/2. This continued fraction is a generalization of the Brouncker's continued fraction b(s). We extend the formulas for the first and the second logarithmic derivatives of b(s) to the case of y(s,r). The asymptotic series for y(s,r) at the infinity are also studied. The generalizations of some Ramanujan's formulas are presented.
Let $\|x\|$ denote the distance from $x\in\mathbb{R}$ to the nearest integer. In this paper, we prove an existence and density statement for matrices $\boldsymbol{A}\in\mathbb{R}^{m\times n}$ satisfying $$\liminf_{|\boldsymbol{q}|_{\infty}\to +\infty}\prod_{j=1}^{n}\max\{1,|q_{j}|\}\log\left(\prod_{j=1}^{n}\max\{1,|q_{j}|\}\right)^{m+n-1}\prod_{i=1}^{m}\|A_{i}\boldsymbol{q}\|>0,$$ where the vector $\boldsymbol{q}$ ranges in $\mathbb{Z}^{n}$ and $A_{i}$ are the rows of the matrix $\boldsymbol{A}$. This result extends a previous result of Moshchevitin for $2$-dimensional vectors to arbitrary dim…
In this work we introduce interesting infinite series, related to Ramanujan-Soldner constant. Our method uses general properties of polynomials of binomial type and Lagrange inversion theorem. Also we study properties of the operator 1/dlog, acting on formal power series. In addition, several properties of polynomials of binomial type associated to elementary functions are discussed.
We establish Connes's local trace formula (related to the explicit formulae of number theory) for the quaternions. This is done as an application of a study of the central operator H = log(|x|) + log(|y|) in the context of invariant harmonic analysis. The multiplicative analysis of the additive Fourier transform gives a spectral interpretation to generalized ``Tate Gamma functions'' (closely akin to the Godement-Jacquet ``γ(s,π,ψ)'' functions.) The analysis of H leads furthermore to a spectral interpretation for the logarithmic derivatives of these Gamma functions (which are involved in ``expl…
We study some "density function" related to the value-distribution of $L$-functions. The first example of such a density function was given by Bohr and Jessen in 1930s for the Riemann zeta-function. In this paper, we construct the density function in a wide class of $L$-functions. We prove that certain mean values of $L$-functions in the class are represented as integrals involving the related density functions.
We provide a framework for proofs of structural theorems about sets with positive Banach logarithmic density. For example, we prove that if $A\subseteq \mathbb{N}$ has positive Banach logarithmic density, then $A$ contains an approximate geometric progression of any length. We also prove that if $A,B\subseteq \mathbb{N}$ have positive Banach logarithmic density, then there are arbitrarily long intervals whose gaps on $A\cdot B$ are multiplicatively bounded, a multiplicative version Jin's sumset theorem. The main technical tool is the use of a quotient of a Loeb measure space with respect to a …
Assume the Riemann Hypothesis and a hypothesis on small gaps between zeta zeros, we prove a conjecture of Bailey, Bettin, Blower, Conrey, Prokhorov, Rubinstein and Snaith, which states that for any positive integer $K$ and real number $a>0$, \begin{align*} \lim_{a \to 0^+}\lim_{T \to \infty} \frac{(2a)^{2K-1}}{T (\log T)^{2K}} \int_{T}^{2T} \left|\frac{ζ'}ζ\left(\frac{1}{2}+\frac{a}{\log T}+it\right)\right|^{2K} dt = \binom{2K-2}{K-1}. \end{align*} When $K=1$, this was essentially a result of Goldston, Gonek and Montgomery.
Let $d\in\mathbb{N}$, and let $π$ be a fixed cuspidal automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_{d}(\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$ with unitary central character. We determine the limiting distribution of the family of values $-\frac{L'}{L}(1+it,π\otimesχ_D)$ as $D$ varies over fundamental discriminants. Here, $t$ is a fixed real number and $χ_D$ is the real character associated with $D$. We establish an upper bound on the discrepancy in the convergence of this family to its limiting distribution. As an application of this result, we obtain an upper bound on the small values of $\left|\frac{L'}{L}…
We say a power series $\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_n q^n$ is multiplicative if the function $n\mapsto a_n/a_1$ ($n\ge 1$) is so. In this paper, we consider multiplicative power series $f$ such that $f^2$ is also multiplicative. We find various solutions for which $f$ is a rational function or a theta series and prove that the complete set of solutions is the locus of a (probably reducible) affine variety over C. The precise determination of this variety is a finite computational problem but seems to be outside the reach of current computer algebra systems. The proof of the theorem depends on a bound o…
Let $λ$ denote the Liouville function. The Chowla conjecture, in the two-point correlation case, asserts that $$ \sum_{n \leq x} λ(a_1 n + b_1) λ(a_2 n+b_2) = o(x) $$ as $x \to \infty$, for any fixed natural numbers $a_1,a_2,b_1,b_2$ with $a_1b_2-a_2b_1 \neq 0$. In this paper we establish the logarithmically averaged version $$ \sum_{x/ω(x) < n \leq x} \frac{λ(a_1 n + b_1) λ(a_2 n+b_2)}{n} = o(\log ω(x)) $$ of the Chowla conjecture as $x \to \infty$, where $1 \leq ω(x) \leq x$ is an arbitrary function of $x$ that goes to infinity as $x \to \infty$, thus breaking the "parity barrier" for this p…
We prove a remarkable formula of Ramanujan for the logarithmic derivative of the gamma function, which converges more rapidly than classical expansions, and which is stated without proof in Ramanujan's notebooks. The formula has a number of very interesting consequences which we derive, including an elegant hyperbolic summation, Ramanujan's formula for the Riemann zeta function evaluated at the odd positive integers, and new formulae for Euler's constant, gamma.
This work computes the asymptotics of the non-integer moments of the logarithmic derivative of characteristic polynomials of matrices from the $SO(2N+1)$ ensemble. It follows from work of Alvarez and Snaith who computed the asymptotics of the integer moments of the same statistic over both $SO(N)$ ensembles as well as the $USp(2N)$ ensemble.
We study the asymptotic behaviour of higher order correlations $$ \mathbb{E}_{n \leq X/d} g_1(n+ah_1) \cdots g_k(n+ah_k)$$ as a function of the parameters $a$ and $d$, where $g_1,\dots,g_k$ are bounded multiplicative functions, $h_1,\dots,h_k$ are integer shifts, and $X$ is large. Our main structural result asserts, roughly speaking, that such correlations asymptotically vanish for almost all $X$ if $g_1 \cdots g_k$ does not (weakly) pretend to be a twisted Dirichlet character $n \mapsto χ(n)n^{it}$, and behave asymptotically like a multiple of $d^{-it} χ(a)$ otherwise. This extends our earlie…
The integral $R(t)=π^{-1}(lnζ(\frac{1}{2}+it)+i\vartheta (t))$ of the logarithmic derivative of the Hardy Z function $Z(t)=e^{i\vartheta (t)}ζ(\frac{1}{2}+it)$, where $\vartheta (t)$ is the Riemann-Siegel theta function, and $ζ(t)$ is the Riemann zeta function, is used as a basis for the construction of a pair of transcendental entire functions $ν(t)=-ν(1-t)=-{ΔR(\frac{i}{2}-it)}^{-1}=-G(\frac{i}{2}-it)$ where $G=-(ΔR(t))^{-1}$ is the derivative of the additive inverse of the reciprocal of the Laplacian of $R(t)$ and $χ(t)=-χ(1-t)=\dotν (t)=-iH(\frac{i}{2}-it)$ where $H(t)=\dot{G} (t)$ has roo…
We first summarize joint work on several preliminary canonical Lambert series factorization theorems. Within this article we establish new analogs to these original factorization theorems which characterize two specific primary cases of the expansions of Lambert series generating functions: factorizations for Hadamard products of Lambert series and for higher-order derivatives of Lambert series. The series coefficients corresponding to these two generating function cases are important enough to require the special due attention we give to their expansions within the article, and moreover, are …
We study moments of the logarithmic derivative of characteristic polynomials of orthogonal and symplectic random matrices. In particular, we compute the asymptotics for large matrix size, $N$, of these moments evaluated at points which are approaching 1. This follows work of Bailey, Bettin, Blower, Conrey, Prokhorov, Rubinstein and Snaith where they compute these asymptotics in the case of unitary random matrices.
Logarithmic gaps have been used in order to find a periodic component of the sequence of prime numbers, hidden by a random noise (stochastic or chaotic). It is shown that multiplicative nature of the noise is the main reason for the successful application of the logarithmic gaps transforming the multiplicative noise into an additive one. A relation of this phenomenon to spontaneous neuron activity and to chaotic brain computations has been discussed.
This paper is devoted to the study of a problem of Cassels in multiplicative Diophantine approximation which involves minimising values of a product of affine linear forms computed at integral points. It was previously known that values of this product become arbitrary close to zero, and we establish that, in fact, they approximate zero with an explicit rate. Our approach is based on investigating quantitative density of orbits of higher-rank abelian groups.
In this paper we prove a Gross-Zagier type formula for the anticyclotomic p-adic L-function of an elliptic modular form f of higher weight and of multiplicative type at p. For such f we also decribe explicitely the local Galois representation attached to it at p and compare the Fontaine-Mazur and Teitelbaum L-invariants.
We prove a structural result for measure preserving systems naturally associated with any finite collection of multiplicative functions that take values on the complex unit disc. We show that these systems have no irrational spectrum and their building blocks are Bernoulli systems and infinite-step nilsystems. One consequence of our structural result is that strongly aperiodic multiplicative functions satisfy the logarithmically averaged variant of the disjointness conjecture of Sarnak for a wide class of zero entropy topological dynamical systems, which includes all uniquely ergodic ones. We …
