In this paper we prove a Gross-Zagier type formula for the anticyclotomic p-adic L-function of an elliptic modular form f of higher weight and of multiplicative type at p. For such f we also decribe explicitely the local Galois representation attached to it at p and compare the Fontaine-Mazur and Teitelbaum L-invariants.
Iwasawa theory of Heegner points on abelian varieties of GL_2 type has been studied by, among others, Mazur, Perrin-Riou, Bertolini and Howard. The purpose of this paper, the first in a series of two, is to describe extensions of some of their results in which abelian varieties are replaced by the Galois cohomology of Deligne's p-adic representation attached to a modular form f of even weight >2. In this more general setting, the role of Heegner points is played by higher-dimensional Heegner cycles in the sense of Nekovář. In particular, we prove that the Pontryagin dual of a certain Bloch-Kat…
We construct an Euler system of generalized Heegner cycles to bound the Selmer group associated to a modular form and an algebraic Hecke character. The main argument is based on Kolyvagin's machinery explained by Gross while the key object of the Euler system, the generalized Heegner cycles, were first considered by Bertolini, Darmon and Prasanna.
The asymptotic behaviour of the Neron-Tate height of Heegner points on a rational elliptic curve attached to an arithmetically normalized new cusp form f of weight 2, level N and trivial character is studied in this paper. By Gross-Zagier formula, this height is related to the special value at the critical point for the derivative of the Rankin-Selberg convolution of f with a certain weight one theta series attached to some ideal class of some imaginary quadratic field. Asymptotic formula for the first moments asociated to these Dirichlet series are proved and experimental results are carefull…
Let f be a Bianchi modular form, that is, an automorphic form for GL(2) over an imaginary quadratic field F, and let P be a prime of F at which f is new. Let K be a quadratic extension of F, and L(f/K,s) the L-function of the base-change of f to K. Under certain hypotheses on f and K, the functional equation of L(f/K,s) ensures that it vanishes at the central point. The Bloch--Kato conjecture predicts that this should force the existence of non-trivial classes in an appropriate global Selmer group attached to f and K. In this paper, we use the theory of double integrals developed by Barrera Sa…
Let E/Q be an elliptic curve with a fixed modular parametrization F : X_0(N) --> E and let P_1,...,P_r be Heegner points on E attached to the rings of integers of distinct quadratic imaginary field k_1,...,k_r. We prove that if the odd parts of the class numbers of k_1,...,k_r are larger than a constant C=C(E,F) depending only on E and F, then the points P_1,...,P_r are independent in E/(torsion). We also discuss a possible application to the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem.
The principal goal of this paper is to develop Kolyvagin's descent to apply with the big Heegner point Euler system constructed by Howard for the big Galois representation $\mathbb{T}$ attached to a Hida family $\mathbb{F}$ of elliptic modular forms. In order to achieve this, we interpolate and control the Tamagawa factors attached to each member of the family $\mathbb{F}$ at bad primes, which should be of independent interest. Using this, we then work out the Kolyvagin descent on the big Heegner point Euler system so as to obtain a big Kolyvagin system that interpolates the collection of Koly…
We relate the $p$-adic heights of generalized Heegner cycles to the derivative of a $p$-adic $L$-function attached to a pair $(f, χ)$, where $f$ is an ordinary weight $2r$ newform and $χ$ is an unramified imaginary quadratic Hecke character of infinity type $(\ell,0)$, with $0 < \ell < 2r$. This generalizes the $p$-adic Gross-Zagier formula in the case $\ell = 0$ due to Perrin-Riou (in weight two) and Nekováur (in higher weight).
We give a new proof of Howard's $Λ$-adic Gross-Zagier formula, which we extend to the context of indefinite Shimura curves over $\mathbf{Q}$ attached to nonsplit quaternion algebras. This formula relates the cyclotomic derivative of a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function restricted to the anticyclotomic line to the cyclotomic $p$-adic heights of Heegner points over the anticyclotomic tower, and our proof, rather than inspired by the original approaches of Gross-Zagier and Perrin-Riou, is via Iwasawa theory, based on the connection between Heegner points, Beilinson-Flach elements, and their expli…

Our results should be compared with those obtained, via deformation-th…
We study generalised Heegner cycles, originally introduced by Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna for modular curves, in the context of Mumford curves. The main result of this paper relates generalized Heegner cycles with the two variable anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function attached to a Coleman family $f_\infty$ and an imaginary quadratic field $K$. Our generalised Heegner cycles allow us to study the restriction of this function to non-central critical lines. The main result expresses the derivative along the weight variable of this anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function restricted to non necessarily c…
In a recent paper, Castella and Hsieh proved results for Selmer groups associated with Galois representations attached to newforms twisted by Hecke characters of an imaginary quadratic field. These results are obtained under the so-called Heegner hypothesis that the imaginary quadratic field satisfies with respect to the level of the modular form. In particular, Castella and Hsieh prove the rank 0 case of the Bloch-Kato conjecture for $L$-functions of modular forms in their setting. The key point of the work of Castella and Hsieh is a remarkable link between generalized Heegner cycles and $p$-…
Given a weight two modular form f with associated p-adic Galois representation V_f, for certain quadratic imaginary fields K one can construct canonical classes in the Galois cohomology of V_f by taking the Kummer images of Heegner points on the modular abelian variety attached to f. We show that these classes can be interpolated as f varies in a Hida family, and construct an Euler system of big Heegner points for Hida's universal ordinary deformation of V_f. We show that the specialization of this big Euler system to any form in the Hida family is nontrivial, extending results of Cornut and V…
Let $R$ be a complete discrete valuation ring with perfect residue field $k$ of positive characteristic $p$ and field of fractions $K$ of characteristic 0. In this paper we consider a $K$-1-motive $M_K$ as in [Ra] and its associated Barsotti-Tate group. This last does not in general extend to a Barsotti-Tate group over $R$. However, with some assumptions, it extends to a logarithmic Barsotti-Tate group over $R$. This follows from [Ra] and Kato's results on finite logarithmic group schemes. Once chosen a uniformizing parameter $π$ of $R$, any logarithmic Barsotti-Tate group over $R$ is describe…
In a recent work of Darmon, Pozzi and Vonk, the authors consider a particular $p$-adic family of Hilbert Eisenstein series $E_k(1,\brch)$ associated with an odd character $\brch$ of the narrow ideal class group of a real quadratic field $F$ and compute the first derivative of a certain one-variable twisted triple product $p$-adic $L$-series attached to $E_k(1,\brch)$ and an elliptic newform $f$ of weight $2$ on $Γ_0(p)$. In this paper, we generalize their construction to include the cyclotomic variable and thus obtain a two-variable twisted triple product $p$-adic $L$-series. Moreover, when $f…
Let f be a modular eigenform of even weight k>0 and new at a prime p dividing exactly the level, with respect to an indefinite quaternion algebra. The theory of Fontaine-Mazur allows to attach to f a monodromy module D_FM(f) and an L-invariant L_FM(f). The first goal of this paper is building a suitable p-adic integration theory that allows us to construct a monodromy module D(f) and an L-invariant L(f) in the spirit of Darmon. We conjecture both monodromy modules are isomorphic, and in particular the two L-invariants are equal. For the second goal of this note we assume the conjecture is true…
In this paper, we consider normalized newforms $f\in S_k(Γ_0(N),\varepsilon_f)$ whose non-constant term Fourier coefficients are congruent to those of an Eisenstein series modulo some prime ideal above a rational prime $p$. In this situation, we establish a congruence between the anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function of Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna and the Katz two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function. From this, we derive congruences between images under the $p$-adic Abel-Jacobi map of certain generalized Heegner cycles attached to $f$ and special values of the Katz $p$-adic $L$-function. In particular…
Building on ideas of Vatsal, Cornut proved a conjecture of Mazur asserting the generic nonvanishing of Heegner points on an elliptic curve E as one ascends the anticyclotomic Z_p-extension of a quadratic imaginary extension K/Q. In the present article Cornut's result is extended by replacing the elliptic curve E with the Galois cohomology of Deligne's 2-dimensional l-adic representation attached to a modular form of weight 2k>2, and replacing the family of Heegner points with an analogous family of special cohomology classes.
We consider cycles on a 3-dimensional Shimura varieties attached to a unitary group, defined over extensions of a CM field $E$, which appear in the context of the conjectures of Gan, Gross, and Prasad \cite{gan-gross-prasad}. We establish a vertical distribution relation for these cycles over an anticyclotomic extension of $E$, complementing the horizontal distribution relation of \cite{jetchev:unitary}, and use this to define a family of norm-compatible cycles over these fields, thus obtaining a universal norm construction similar to the Heegner $Λ$-module constructed from Heegner points.
Let $A/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve with split multiplicative reduction at a prime $p$. We prove (an analogue of) a conjecture of Perrin-Riou, relating $p$-adic Beilinson$-$Kato elements to Heegner points in $A(\mathbb{Q})$, and a large part of the rank-one case of the Mazur$-$Tate$-$Teitelbaum exceptional zero conjecture for the cyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function of $A$. More generally, let $f$ be the weight-two newform associated with $A$, let $f_{\infty}$ be the Hida family of $f$, and let $L_{p}(f_{\infty},k,s)$ be the Mazur$-$Kitagawa two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function attached to $f_{\…
For arithmetic applications, we extend and refine our results in \cite{YZ} to allow ramifications in a minimal way. Starting with a possibly ramified quadratic extension $F'/F$ of function fields over a finite field in odd characteristic, and a finite set of places $Σ$ of $F$ that are unramified in $F'$, we define a collection of Heegner--Drinfeld cycles on the moduli stack of $\mathrm{PGL}_{2}$-Shtukas with $r$-modifications and Iwahori level structures at places of $Σ$. For a cuspidal automorphic representation $π$ of $\mathrm{PGL}_{2}(\mathbb{A}_{F})$ with square-free level $Σ$, and $r\in\m…
Given a modular form f of even weight larger than two and an imaginary quadratic field K satisfying a relaxed Heegner hypothesis, we construct a collection of CM cycles on a Kuga-Sato variety over a suitable Shimura curve which gives rise to a system of Galois cohomology classes attached to f enjoying the compatibility properties of an Euler system. Then we use Kolyvagin's method, as adapted by Nekovar to higher weight modular forms, to bound the size of the relevant Selmer group associated to f and K and prove the finiteness of the (primary part) of the Shafarevich-Tate group, provided that a…
We formulate analogues of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for the $p$-adic $L$-functions of Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna attached to elliptic curves $E/\mathbf{Q}$ at primes $p$ of good ordinary reduction. Using Iwasawa theory, we then prove under mild hypotheses one of the inequalities predicted by the rank part of our conjectures, as well as the predicted leading coefficient formula up to a $p$-adic unit. Our conjectures are very closely related to conjectures of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer type formulated by Bertolini-Darmon in 1996 for certain Heegner distributions, and as application …
We study the integrality properties of the coefficients of the mirror map attached to the generalized hypergeometric function $_{n}F_{n-1}$ with rational parameters and with a maximal unipotent monodromy. We present a conjecture on the $p$-integrality of the mirror map which can be verified experimentally. We prove its consequence on the $N$-integrality of the mirror map for the particular cases $1\leq n\leq 4$. For $n=2$ we obtain the Takeuchi's classification of arithmetic triangle groups with a cusp, and for $n=4$ we prove that $14$ examples of hypergeometric Calabi-Yau equations are the fu…
The Borcherds lift for indefinite unitary groups, previously constructed by the author, is examined here in greater detail for the special case of the group U(1,1). The inputs for the lifting in this case are weakly holomorphic modular forms of weight zero, which are lifted to meromorphic modular forms on the usual complex upper half plane transforming under an arithmetic subgroup of U(1,1). In this setting, we can completely describe the Weyl-chambers involved and explicitly calculate the attached Weyl-vectors, for a family of input functions with principle part $q^{-n}$. Since these are a ba…
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$ and $A$ be another elliptic curve over a real quadratic number field. We construct a $\mathbb{Q}$-motive of rank $8$, together with a distinguished class in the associated Bloch-Kato Selmer group, using Hirzebruch-Zagier cycles, that is, graphs of Hirzebruch-Zagier morphisms. We show that, under certain assumptions on $E$ and $A$, the non-vanishing of the central critical value of the (twisted) triple product $L$-function attached to $(E,A)$ implies that the dimension of the associated Bloch-Kato Selmer group of the motive is $0$; and the non-vani…
Each finite $p$-perfect group $G$ ($p$ a prime) has a universal central $p$-extension. For a perfect group these central extensions come from its {\sl Schur multiplier}. Serre gave a Stiefel-Whitney class approach to analyzing spin covers of alternating groups ($p=2$) aimed at geometric covering space problems. This included the regular version of the Inverse Galois Problem. Every finite simple group with order divisible by $p$ has an infinite string of perfect centerless group covers exhibiting nontrivial Schur multipliers for the prime $p$. Sequences of moduli spaces of curves attached to $G…
We consider $L$-functions attached to representations of the Galois group of the function field of a curve over a finite field. Under mild tameness hypotheses, we prove non-vanishing results for twists of these $L$-functions by characters of order prime to the characteristic of the ground field and by certain representations with solvable image. We also allow local restrictions on the twisting representation at finitely many places. Our methods are geometric, and include the Riemann-Roch theorem, the cohomological interpretation of $L$-functions, and some monodromy calculations of Katz. As an …
Assuming specific instances of two general conjectures in arithmetic algebraic geometry (bijectivity of $p$-adic regulator maps, injectivity of $p$-adic Abel-Jacobi maps), we prove several cases of the $p$-part of the Tamagawa number conjecture ($p$-TNC) of Bloch-Kato and Fontaine-Perrin-Riou for (homological) motives of modular forms of even weight $\geq4$ in analytic rank $1$. More precisely, we prove our results for a large class of newforms $f$ and prime numbers $p$ that are ordinary for $f$ and such that the weight of $f$ is congruent to $2$ modulo $2(p-1)$. Inspired by work of W. Zhang i…
Let $f$ be a newform of weight $2$, square-free level and trivial character, let $A_f$ be the abelian variety attached to $f$ and for every good ordinary prime $p$ for $f$ let $\boldsymbol f^{(p)}$ be the $p$-adic Hida family through $f$. We prove that, for all but finitely many primes $p$ as above, if $A_f$ is an elliptic curve such that $A_f(\mathbb Q)$ has rank $1$ and the $p$-primary part of the Shafarevich-Tate group of $A_f$ over $\mathbb Q$ is finite then all specializations of $\boldsymbol f^{(p)}$ of weight congruent to $2$ modulo $2(p-1)$ and trivial character have finite ($p$-primar…
Iwasawa theory of modular forms over anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of imaginary quadratic fields has been studied by several authors, starting from the works of Bertolini-Darmon and Iovita-Spiess, under the crucial assumption that the prime $p$ is unramified in $K$. We start in this article the systematic study of anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-functions when $p$ is ramified in $K$. In particular, when $f$ is a weight $2$ modular form attached to an elliptic curve $E/\mathbb{Q}$ having multiplicative reduction at $p$, and $p$ is ramified in $K$, we show an analogue of the exceptional z…
There are two famous Abel Theorems. Most well-known is his description of abelian (analytic) functions on a one dimensional compact complex torus. The other collects together those complex tori, with their prime degree isogenies, into one space. Riemann's generalization of the first features his famous theta functions. His deepest work aimed at extending Abel's second theorem; he died before he fulfilled this. That extension is often pictured on complex higher dimension torii. For Riemann, though, it was to spaces of Jacobians of compact Riemann surfaces, W, of genus g, toward studying functio…
