Structure and properties of families of critical points for classes of functions $W(z,\bar{z})$ obeying the elliptic Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation $E(1/2,1/2)$ are studied. General variational and differential equations governing the dependence of critical points in variational (deformation) parameters are found. Explicit examples of the corresponding integrable quasi-linear differential systems and hierarchies are presented There are the extended dispersionless Toda/nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchies, the "inverse" hierarchy and equations associated with the real-analytic Eisenstein series $E(β,\bar{β};1/2)$among them. Specific bi-Hamiltonian structure of these equations is also discussed.
The paper presents two results. First it is shown how the discrete potential modified KdV equation and its Lax pairs in matrix form arise from the Hirota-Miwa equation by a 2-periodic reduction. Then Darboux transformations and binary Darboux transformations are derived for the discrete potential modified KdV equation and it is shown how these may be used to construct exact solutions.
The Hirota-Miwa equation can be written in `nonlinear' form in two ways: the discrete KP equation and, by using a compatible continuous variable, the discrete potential KP equation. For both systems, we consider the Darboux and binary Darboux transformations, expressed in terms of the continuous variable, and obtain exact solutions in Wronskian and Grammian form. We discuss reductions of both systems to the discrete KdV and discrete potential KdV equations, respectively, and exploit this connection to find the Darboux and binary Darboux transformations and exact solutions of these equations.
We present a series of Darboux integrable discrete equations on the square lattice. Equations of the series are numbered with natural numbers $M$. All the equations have a first integral of the first order in one of directions of the two-dimensional lattice. The minimal order of a first integral in the other direction is equal to $3M$ for an equation with the number $M$. In the cases $M=1,\ 2,\ 3$ we show that those equations are integrable in quadratures. More precisely, we construct their general solutions in terms of the discrete integrals. We also construct a modified series of Darboux int…
We propose a discrete Darboux-Lax scheme for deriving auto-Bäcklund transformations and constructing solutions to quad-graph equations that do not necessarily possess the 3D consistency property. As an illustrative example we use the Adler-Yamilov type system which is related to the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation [19]. In particular, we construct an auto-Bäcklund transformation for this discrete system, its superposition principle, and we employ them in the construction of the one- and two-soliton solutions of the Adler-Yamilov system.
We show that any system of ODEs can be modified whilst preserving its homogeneous Darboux polynomials. We employ the result to generalise a hierarchy of integrable Lotka-Volterra systems.
In this work, we establish a connection between the extended Prelle-Singer procedure (Chandrasekar \textit{et al.} Proc. R. Soc. A 2005) with five other analytical methods which are widely used to identify integrable systems in the contemporary literature, especially for second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). By synthesizing these methods we bring out the interplay between Lie point symmetries, $λ$-symmetries, adjoint symmetries, null-forms, Darboux polynomials, integrating factors and Jacobi last multiplier in identifying the integrable systems described by second orde…
Nowadays the Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation is extensively studied in several settings. The main questions on avery spaces are explicit solutions for the classical Cauchy problems with the second data null. In this note we will generalize and unify several results on Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation. In this note we consider the Cauchy problem with modified conditions for the Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation. We give the explicit solutions in terms of Gauss 2F1 and Appel F4 hypergeometric functions with applications to the classical and radial wave equations
In this thesis we study the Darboux transformations related to particular Lax operators of NLS type which are invariant under the action of the so-called reduction group. Specifically, we study the cases of: 1) the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (with no reduction), 2) the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation, where the corresponding Lax operator is invariant under the action of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-reduction group and 3) a deformation of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation, associated to a Lax operator invariant under the action of the dihedral reduction group. These reduction gr…
We present an approach to higher dimensional Darboux transformations suitable for application to quantum integrable systems and based on the bispectral property of partial differential operators. Specifically, working with the algebro-geometric definition of quantum integrability, we utilize the bispectral duality of quantum Hamiltonian systems to construct non-trivial Darboux transformations between completely integrable quantum systems. As an application, we are able to construct new quantum integrable systems as the Darboux transforms of trivial examples (such as symmetric products of one d…
A new form of a binary Darboux transformation is used to generate analytical solutions of a nonlinear Liouville-von Neumann equation. General theory is illustrated by explicit examples.
We reveal the origin and structure of self-consistent source extensions of integrable equations from the perspective of binary Darboux transformations. They arise via a deformation of the potential that is central in this method. As examples, we obtain in particular matrix versions of self-consistent source extensions of the sine-Gordon, nonlinear Schrodinger, KdV, Boussinesq, KP, Davey-Stewartson, two-dimensional Toda lattice and discrete KP systems. We also recover a (2+1)-dimensional version of the Yajima-Oikawa system from a deformation of the pKP hierarchy. By construction, these systems …
Using the q-version of the Darboux transform we obtain the general solution of q-difference Riccati equation from a special one by the action of one-parameter group. This allows us to construct the solutions for the latge class of q-difference Riccati equations as well as q-difference Schrodinger equations
The Darboux transformation on matrix solutions to the generalized coupled dispersionless integrable system based on some non-abelian Lie group, is studied and the solutions are shown to be expressed in terms of quasideterminants. As an explicit example, the Darboux transformation on scalar solutions to the system based on the Lie group SU(2) is discussed in detail and the solutions are shown to be expressed as ratios of determinants.
After an introduction to some aspects of bidifferential calculus on associative algebras, we focus on the notion of a "symmetry" of a generalized zero curvature equation and derive Backlund and (forward, backward and binary) Darboux transformations from it. We also recall a matrix version of the binary Darboux transformation and, inspired by the so-called Cauchy matrix approach, present an infinite system of equations solved by it. Finally, we sketch recent work on a deformation of the matrix binary Darboux transformation in bidifferential calculus, leading to a treatment of integrable equatio…
We present the fundamental solutions for the spin-1/2 fields propagating in the spacetimes with power type expansion/contraction and the fundamental solution of the Cauchy problem for the Dirac equation. The derivation of these fundamental solutions is based on formulas for the solutions to the generalized Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation, which are obtained by the integral transform approach.
We find a remarkable subalgebra of higher symmetries of the elliptic Euler-Darboux equation. To this aim we map such equation into its hyperbolic analogue already studied by Shemarulin. Taking into consideration how symmetries and recursion operators transform by this complex contact transformation, we explicitly give the structure of this Lie algebra and prove that it is finitely generated. Furthermore, higher symmetries depending on jets up to second order are explicitly computed.
In this paper we present a far-reaching generalization of E. Vessiot's analysis of the Darboux integrable partial differential equations in one dependent and two independent variables. Our approach provides new insights into this classical method, uncovers the fundamental geometric invariants of Darboux integrable systems, and provides for systematic, algorithmic integration of such systems. This work is formulated within the general framework of Pfaffian exterior differential systems and, as such, has applications well beyond those currently found in the literature. In particular, our integra…
The relation between the Darboux transformation and the solutions of the full Kostant Toda lattice is analyzed. The discrete Korteweg de Vries equation is used to obtain such solutions and the main result of [1] is extended to the case of general (p + 2)-banded Hessenberg matrices.
We present a general solution-generating result within the bidifferential calculus approach to integrable partial differential and difference equations, based on a binary Darboux-type transformation. This is then applied to the non-autonomous chiral model, a certain reduction of which is known to appear in the case of the D-dimensional vacuum Einstein equations with D-2 commuting Killing vector fields. A large class of exact solutions is obtained, and the aforementioned reduction is implemented. This results in an alternative to the well-known Belinski-Zakharov formalism. We recover relevant e…
The extension of Painlevé equations to noncommutative spaces has been considering extensively in the theory of integrable systems and it is also interesting to explore some remarkable aspects of these equations such as Painlevé property, Lax representation, Darboux transformation and their connection to well know integrable equations. This paper is devoted to the Lax formulation, Darboux transformation and Quasideterminant solution of noncommutative Painlevé second equation which is recently introduced by V. Retakh and V. Rubtsov.
In Einstein's theory of relativity, the interaction of two collinearly polarized plane gravitational waves can be described by a Goursat problem for the Euler--Darboux equation in a triangular domain. In this paper, using a representation of the solution in terms of Abel integrals, we give a full asymptotic expansion of the solution near the diagonal of the triangle. The expansion is related to the formation of a curvature singularity of the spacetime. In particular, our framework allows for boundary data with derivatives which are singular at the corners. This level of generality is crucial f…
In this paper, we develop discrete versions of Darboux transformations and Crum's theorems for two second order difference equations. The difference equations are discretised versions (using Darboux transformations) of the spectral problems of the KdV quation, and of the modified KdV equation or sine-Gordon equation. Considering the discrete dynamics created by Darboux transformations for the difference equations, one obtains the lattice potential KdV equation, the lattice potential modified KdV equation and the lattice Schwarzian KdV equation, that are prototypes of integrable lattice equatio…
Integrable discretisations for a class of coupled (super) nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) type of equations are presented. The class corresponds to a Lax operator with entries in a Grassmann algebra. Elementary Darboux transformations are constructed. As a result, Grassmann generalisations of the Toda lattice and the NLS dressing chain are obtained. The compatibility (Bianchi commutativity) of these Darboux transformations leads to integrable Grassmann generalisations of the difference Toda and NLS equations. The resulting systems will have discrete Lax representations provided by the set of two c…
We introduce a method for calculating the joint spectra of functions which comprise a quantum integrable system under a deformation quantization star product. The main result involves a construction by formal power series in h-bar of s'Darboux coordinates, a concept we introduce for the star product analogue of Darboux normal coordinates. We will find that underlying the quantum integrable system is a set of s'Darboux coordinates which in turn gives rise to number operators for the system. We present an explicit correction to the lowest order Bohr-Sommerfeld or EBK quantization rule.
One way of constructing explicit expressions of solutions of integrable systems of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) goes via the Darboux method. This requires the construction of Darboux matrices. Here we introduce a novel algorithm to obtain such matrices in polynomial form. Our method is illustrated by applying it to the classical Massive Thirring Model (MTM), and by combining it with the Dihedral group of symmetries possessed by this model.
Bilinear equation is an important property for integrable nonlinear evolution equation. Many famous research objects in mathematical physics, such as Gromov-Witten invariants, can be described in terms of bilinear equations to show their connections with the integrable systems. Here in this paper, we mainly discuss the bilinear equations of the transformed tau functions under the successive applications of the Darboux transformations for the KP hierarchy, the modified KP hierarchy (Kupershmidt-Kiso version) and the BKP hierarchy, by the method of the Boson-Fermion correspondence. The Darboux t…
For the supersymmetric KdV equation, a proper Darboux transformation is presented. This Darboux transformation leads to the Bäcklund transformation found early by Liu and Xie \cite{liu2}. The Darboux transformation and the related Bäcklund transformation are used to construct integrable super differential-difference and difference-difference systems. The continuum limits of these discrete systems and of their Lax pairs are also considered.
Dressing technique is used to construct commuting Lax operators which provide an integrable (canonical) structure behind Witten--Dijkgraaf--Verlinde--Verlinde equations. The commuting flows are related to the isomonodromic flows. Examples of the canonical integrable structure are given in two- and three-dimensional cases. The three-dimensional example is associated with the rational Landau-Ginzburg potentials.
This paper is devoted to the analysis of random motions on the line and in the space R^d (d > 1) performed at finite velocity and governed by a non-homogeneous Poisson process with rate λ(t). The explicit distributions p(x,t) of the position of the randomly moving particles are obtained solving initial-value problems for the Euler- Poisson-Darboux equation when λ(t) = α/t, t > 0. We consider also the case where λ(t) = λcoth λt and λ(t) = λtanh λt, where some Riccati differential equations emerge and the explicit distributions are obtained for d = 1. We also examine planar random motions with r…
We present a class of three-dimensional integrable structures associated with the Darboux-Egoroff metric and classical Euler equations of free rotations of a rigid body. They are obtained as canonical structures of rational Landau-Ginzburg potentials and provide solutions to the Painleve VI equation.
In this paper we give a method to obtain Darboux transformations (DTs) of integrable equations. As an example we give a DT of the dispersive water wave equation. Using the Miura map, we also obtain the DT of the Jaulent-Miodek equation. \end{abstract}
In this paper, to begin with, we review six different analytical methods which are widely used to derive symmetries, integrating factors, multipliers, Darboux polynomials and integrals of second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We illustrate the algorithm behind each method by considering a nonlinear oscillator equation as an example. In the second part of this paper, we examine the interconnections between these methods. We establish a road map between extended Prelle-Singer procedure with all other methods cited above and thereby demonstrate the interplay between Lie point sy…
Orthogonal Laurent polynomials in the unit circle and the theory of Toda-like integrable systems are connected using the Gauss--Borel factorization of a Cantero-Moral-Velazquez moment matrix, which is constructed in terms of a complex quasi-definite measure supported in the unit circle. The factorization of the moment matrix leads to orthogonal Laurent polynomials in the unit circle and the corresponding second kind functions. Jacobi operators, 5-term recursion relations and Christoffel-Darboux kernels, projecting to particular spaces of truncated Laurent polynomials, and corresponding Christo…
We obtain the well-known discrete modified Boussinesq equation in two-component form as well as its Lax pair in $3\times3$ matrix form through a 3-periodic reduction technique on the Hirota-Miwa equation and its Lax pair. We describe how Darboux transformations and binary Darboux transformations can be constructed for this two-component discrete integrable equation. These transformations are then used to obtain classes of explicit solutions in the form of Casorati- and Gramm-type determinants. $N$-soliton solutions of the discrete modified Boussinesq equation are discussed as well when taking …
This article is devoted to the partial difference quad-graph equations that can be represented in the form $φ(u(i+1,j),u(i+1,j+1))=ψ(u(i,j),u(i,j+1))$, where the map $(w,z) \rightarrow (φ(w,z),ψ(w,z))$ is injective. The transformation $v(i,j)=φ(u(i,j),u(i,j+1))$ relates any of such equations to a quad-graph equation. It is proved that this transformation maps Darboux integrable equations of the above form into Darboux integrable equations again and decreases the orders of the transformed integrals by one in the $j$-direction. As an application of this fact, the Darboux integrable equations pos…
We study two families of (matrix versions of) generalized Volterra (or Bogoyavlensky) lattice equations. For each family, the equations arise as reductions of a partial differential-difference equation in one continuous and two discrete variables, which is a realization of a general integrable equation in bidifferential calculus. This allows to derive a binary Darboux transformation and also self-consistent source extensions via general results of bidifferential calculus. Exact solutions are constructed from the simplest seed solutions.
Matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials in the unit circle and the theory of Toda-like integrable systems are connected using the Gauss--Borel factorization of two, left and a right, Cantero-Morales-Velazquez block moment matrices, which are constructed using a quasi-definite matrix measure. A block Gauss-Borel factorization problem of these moment matrices leads to two sets of biorthogonal matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials and matrix Szegő polynomials, which can be expressed in terms of Schur complements of bordered truncations of the block moment matrix. The corresponding block extension o…
In this paper we construct Yang-Baxter (YB) maps using Darboux matrices which are invariant under the action of finite reduction groups. We present 6-dimensional YB maps corresponding to Darboux transformations for the Nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation and the derivative Nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation. These YB maps can be restricted to $4-$dimensional YB maps on invariant leaves. The former are completely integrable and they also have applications to a recent theory of maps preserving functions with symmetries \cite{Allan-Pavlos}. We give a $6-$ dimensional YB-map corresponding to t…
In this article we consider two particular examples of general construction proposed in arXiv:2012.15529. We consider the integrable extensions of the classical elliptic Calogero-Moser model of N particles with spin and the integrable Euler-Arnold top related to the group SL(N,C). The extended systems has additional N-1 degrees of freedom and can be described in terms of the Darboux variables.
We study 2D discrete integrable equations of order 1 with respect to one independent variable and $m$ with respect to another one. A generalization of the multidimensional consistency property is proposed for this type of equations. The examples are related to the Bäcklund--Darboux transformations for the lattice equations of Bogoyavlensky type.
We generalize the Toda lattice (or Toda chain) equation to the square lattice; i.e., we construct an integrable nonlinear equation, for a scalar field taking values on the square lattice and depending on a continuous (time) variable, characterized by an exponential law of interaction in both discrete directions of the square lattice. We construct the Darboux-Backlund transformations for such lattice, and the corresponding formulas describing their superposition. We finally use these Darboux-Backlund transformations to generate examples of explicit solutions of exponential and rational type. Th…
Bianchi-IX four metrics are $SU(2)$ invariant solutions of vacuum Einstein equation, for which the connection-wise self-dual case describes the Euler Top, while the curvature-wise self-dual case yields the Ricci flat classical Darboux-Halphen system. It is possible to see such a solution exhibiting Ricci flow. The classical Darboux-Halphen system is a special case of the generalized one that arises from a reduction of the self-dual Yang-Mills equation and the solutions to the related homogeneous quadratic differential equations provide the desired metric. A few integrable and near-integrable d…
Complete description of the singular sectors of the 1-layer Benney system (classical long wave equation) and dToda system is presented. Associated Euler-Poisson-Darboux equations E(1/2,1/2) and E(-1/2,-1/2) are the main tool in the analysis. A complete list of solutions of the 1-layer Benney system depending on two parameters and belonging to the singular sector is given. Relation between Euler-Poisson-Darboux equations E(a,a) with opposite sign of a is discussed.
In the first part of the paper we present the dressing method which generates multi-soliton solutions to integrable systems of nonlinear partial differential equations. We compare the approach of Neugebauer with that of Zakharov, Shabat and Mikhailov. In both cases we discuss the group reductions and reductions defined by some multilinear constraints on matrices of the linear problem. The second part of the paper describes the soliton surfaces approach. The so called Sym-Tafel formula simplifies the explicit reconstruction of the surface from the knowledge of its fundamental forms, unifies var…
The Darboux transformation is used to obtain multisoliton solutions of the chiral model in two dimensions. The matrix solutions of the principal chiral model and its Lax pair are expressed in terms of quasideterminants. The iteration of the Darboux transformation gives the quasideterminant multisoliton solutions of the model. It has been shown that the quasideterminant multisoliton solution of the chiral model is the same as obtained by Zakharov and Mikhailov using the dressing method based on the matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem.
We present algebraic construction of Darboux matrices for 1+1-dimensional integrable systems of nonlinear partial differential equations with a special stress on the nonisospectral case. We discuss different approaches to the Darboux-Backlund transformation, based on different lambda-dependencies of the Darboux matrix: polynomial, sum of partial fractions, or the transfer matrix form. We derive symmetric N-soliton formulas in the general case. The matrix spectral parameter and dressing actions in loop groups are also discussed. We describe reductions to twisted loop groups, unitary reductions,…
In classical shallow water wave (SWW) theory, there exist two integrable one-dimensional SWW equation [Hirota-Satsuma (HS) type and Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (AKNS) type] in the Boussinesq approximation. In this paper, we mainly focus on the integrable SWW equation of AKNS type. The nonlocal symmetry in form of square spectral function is derived starting from its Lax pair. Infinitely many nonlocal symmetries are presented by introducing the arbitrary spectrum parameter. These nonlocal symmetries can be localized and the SWW equation is extended to enlarged system with auxiliary dependent var…
The Euler top describes a free rotation of a rigid body about its center of mass and provides an important example of a completely integrable system. A salient feature of its first integrals is that, up to a reparametrization of time, they uniquely determine the dynamical equations themselves. In this note, this property is used to construct integrable deformations of the Euler top.
A large class of semi-Hamiltonian systems of hydrodynamic type is interpreted as the equations governing families of critical points of functions obeying the classical linear Darboux equations for conjugate nets. The distinguished role of the Euler-Poisson-Darboux equations and associated Lauricella-type functions is emphasised. In particular, it is shown that the classical g-phase Whitham equations for the KdV and NLS equations are obtained via a g-fold iterated Darboux-type transformation generated by appropriate Lauricella functions.
