We propose a novel efficient algorithm to solve Poisson equation in irregular two dimensional domains for electrostatics. It can handle Dirichlet, Neumann or mixed boundary problems in which the filling media can be homogeneous or inhomogeneous. The basic idea of the new method is solve the problem in three steps: (i) First solve the equation $\nabla\cdot\mathbf D=ρ$. The inverse of the divergence operator in a restricted subspace is found to yield the electric flux density $\mathbf D$ by a fast direct solver in O(N) operations. The $\mathbf D$ so obtained is nonunique with indeterminate divergence-free component. Then the electric field is found by $\mathbf E=\mathbf D/ε$. But $\nabla\times\mathbf E=0$ for electrostatic field; hence, $\mathbf E$ is curl free and orthogonal to the divergence free space. (ii) An orthogonalization process is used to purify the electric field making it curl free and unique. (iii) Then the potential $ϕ$ is obtained by solving $\nabla ϕ=-\mathbf E$ or finding the inverse of the gradient operator in a restricted subspace by a similar fast direct solver in O(N) operations. Treatments for both Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions are addressed. Finally, the validation and efficiency are illustrated by several numerical examples. Through these simulations, it is observed that the computational complexity of our proposed method almost scales as O(N) where N is the triangle patch number of meshes. Consequently, this new algorithm is a feasible fast Poisson solver.
A Poisson algebra is a Lie algebra endowed with a commutative associative product in such a way that the Lie and associative products are compatible via a Leibniz rule. If we part from a Lie color algebra, instead of a Lie algebra, a graded-commutative associative product and a graded-version Leibniz rule we get a so-called Poisson color algebra (of degree zero). This concept can be extended to any degree so as to obtain the class of Poisson color algebras of arbitrary degree. This class turns out to be a wide class of algebras containing the ones of Lie color algebras (and so Lie superalgebra…
We prove that an arbitrary Poisson structure omega^{ij}(u) and an arbitrary closed 3-form T_{ijk}(u) generate the local Poisson structure A^{ij}(u,u_x) = M^i_s(u,u_x)omega^{sj}(u), where M^i_s(u,u_x)(delta^s_j + omega^{sp}(u)T_{pjk}(u)u^k_x) = delta^i_j, on the corresponding loop space. We obtain also a special graded epsilon-deformation of an arbitrary Poisson structure omega^{ij}(u) by means of an arbitrary closed 3-form T_{ijk}(u).
We find a sharp condition on the density-dependent coefficient of damping of a one-dimensional repulsive Euler-Poisson system, which makes it possible to suppress the formation of singularities in the solution of the Cauchy problem with arbitrary smooth data. In the context of plasma physics, this means the possibility of suppressing the breakdown of arbitrary oscillations of cold plasma.
We present a general method for solving the modified Helmholtz equation without shape approximation for an arbitrary periodic charge distribution, whose solution is known as the Yukawa potential or the screened Coulomb potential. The method is an extension of Weinert's pseudo-charge method [M. Weinert, J. Math. Phys. 22, 2433 (1981)] for solving the Poisson equation for the same class of charge density distributions. The inherent differences between the Poisson and the modified Helmholtz equation are in their respective radial solutions. These are polynomial functions, for the Poisson equation…
We show that the symplectic reduction of the dynamics of $N$ point vortices on the plane by the special Euclidean group $\mathsf{SE}(2)$ yields a Lie--Poisson equation for relative configurations of the vortices. Specifically, we combine symplectic reduction by stages with a dual pair associated with the reduction by rotations to show that the $\mathsf{SE}(2)$-reduced space with non-zero angular impulse is a coadjoint orbit. This result complements some existing works by establishing a relationship between the symplectic/Hamiltonian structures of the original and reduced dynamics. We also find…
We construct an analogue of Dirac's reduction for an arbitrary local or non-local Poisson bracket in the general setup of non-local Poisson vertex algebras. This leads to Dirac's reduction of an arbitrary non-local Poisson structure. We apply this construction to an example of a generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy.
We consider a Schroedinger operator with random potential distributed according to a Poisson process. We show that expectations of matrix elements of the resolvent as well as the density of states can be approximated to arbitrary precision in powers of the coupling constant. The expansion coefficients are given in terms of expectations obtained by Neumann expanding the potential around the free Laplacian. One can control these expansion coefficients in the infinite volume limit. We show that for this limit the boundary value as the spectral parameter approaches the real axis exists as well. Ou…
We study the 4-dimensional pressureless Navier--Stokes-Poisson equations with density-dependent viscosity. The analytical solutions with arbitrary time blowup, in radial symmetry, are constructed in this paper.
We introduce a natural class of multicomponent local Poisson structures $\mathcal P_k + \mathcal P_1$, where $\mathcal P_1$ is a local Poisson bracket of order one and $\mathcal P_k$ is a homogeneous Poisson bracket of odd order $k$ under assumption that is has Darboux coordinates (Darboux-Poisson bracket) and non-degenerate. For such brackets we obtain the general formulas in arbitrary coordinates, find normal forms (related to Frobenius triples) and provide the description of the Casimirs, using purely algebraic procedure. In two-component case we completely classify such brackets up to the …
We show Poisson statistics for random band matrices which diagonal entries have Gaussian components. These components are possibly as small as $n^{-\varepsilon}$. Particularly, our result is applicable for a band matrix cut from the GUE with the band width satisfying $w^{3.5}<<n$. A uniform upper bound of the averaged density of states (DOS) is obtained for complex deformed Gaussian band matrices with arbitrary $w$. A lower estimate of the DOS is also proven for arbitrary $w$ in a certain class of band matrices.
We give a geometric account of the relative motion or the shape dynamics of $N$ point vortices on the sphere exploiting the $\mathsf{SO}(3)$-symmetry of the system. The main idea is to bypass the technical difficulty of the $\mathsf{SO}(3)$-reduction by first lifting the dynamics from $\mathbb{S}^{2}$ to $\mathbb{C}^{2}$. We then perform the $\mathsf{U}(2)$-reduction using a dual pair to obtain a Lie--Poisson dynamics for the shape dynamics. This Lie--Poisson structure helps us find a family of Casimirs for the shape dynamics. We further reduce the system by $\mathbb{T}^{N-1}$-symmetry to obta…
The Betti numbers are fundamental topological quantities that describe the k-dimensional connectivity of an object: B_0 is the number of connected components and B_k effectively counts the number of k-dimensional holes. Although they are appealing natural descriptors of shape, the higher-order Betti numbers are more difficult to compute than other measures and so have not previously been studied per se in the context of stochastic geometry or statistical physics. As a mathematically tractable model, we consider the expected Betti numbers per unit volume of Poisson-centred spheres with radius a…
In field theory the Poisson bracket $\{F, \mathcal{H}\}$ between an arbitrary function $F$ and the system Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$ acquires odd contributions. Here a modification is worked out to remove those terms, which leads to a certain version of the energy-momentum tensor. The resulting Poisson bracket is thus more easily accessible for quantization. An outlook hereupon is given, based on a field theoretic alternative to non-commutative spacetime.
The chiral WZNW symplectic form $Ω^ρ_{chir}$ is inverted in the general case. Thereby a precise relationship between the arbitrary monodromy dependent 2-form appearing in $Ω^ρ_{chir}$ and the exchange r-matrix that governs the Poisson brackets of the group valued chiral fields is established. The exchange r-matrices are shown to satisfy a new dynamical generalization of the classical modified Yang-Baxter (YB) equation and Poisson-Lie (PL) groupoids are constructed that encode this equation analogously as PL groups encode the classical YB equation. For an arbitrary simple Lie group G, exchange …
A new proof is given of the existence of the solution to electromagnetic (EM) wave scattering problem for an impedance body of an arbitrary shape. The proof is based on the elliptic systems theory and elliptic estimates for the solutions of such systems.
We report a method for constructing bandpass functions that approximate a given analytic function with arbitrary accuracy over a finite interval. A corollary is that bandpass functions can be obtained that oscillate arbitrarily slower than their minimum frequency component, a counter-intuitive phenomenon known as suboscillations.
We consider surfaces embedded in a Riemannian manifold of arbitrary dimension and prove that many aspects of their differential geometry can be expressed in terms of a Poisson algebraic structure on the space of smooth functions of the surface. In particular, we find algebraic formulas for Weingarten's equations, the complex structure and the Gaussian curvature.
The Poisson-Hopf analogue of an arbitrary quantum algebra U_z(g) is constructed by introducing a one-parameter family of quantizations U_{z,h}(g) depending explicitly on h and by taking the appropriate h -> 0 limit. The q-Poisson analogues of the su(2) algebra are discussed and the novel su_q^P (3) case is introduced. The q-Serre relations are also extended to the Poisson limit. This approach opens the perspective for possible applications of higher rank q-deformed Hopf algebras in semiclassical contexts.
We compute the formal Poisson cohomology of a broken Lefschetz fibration by calculating it at fold and Lefschetz singularities. Near a fold singularity the computation reduces to that for a point singularity in 3 dimensions. For the Poisson cohomology around singular points we adapt techniques developed for the Sklyanin algebra. As a side result, we give compact formulas for the Poisson coboundary operator of an arbitrary Jacobian Poisson structure in 4 dimensions.
We study the asymptotic regime of strong electric fields that leads from the Vlasov-Poisson system to the Incompressible Euler equations. We also deal with the Vlasov-Poisson-Fokker-Planck system which induces dissipative effects. The originality consists in considering a situation with a finite total charge confined by a strong external field. In turn, the limiting equation is set in a bounded domain, the shape of which is determined by the external confining potential. The analysis extends to the situation where the limiting density is non-homogeneous and where the Euler equation is replaced…
We solve the problem of reducing to the simplest and convenient for our purposes, canonical form for an arbitrary pair of compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type generated by metrics of constant Riemannian curvature in order to get an effective construction of the integrable hierarchies related to all these compatible Poisson brackets.
We have derived explicit expressions for the sum rules of order one of the eigenvalues of the negative Laplacian on two dimensional domains of arbitrary shape. Taking into account the leading asymptotic behavior of these eigenvalues, as given from Weyl's law, we show that it is possible to define sum rules that are finite, using different prescriptions. We provide the explicit expressions and test them on a number of non trivial examples, comparing the exact results with precise numerical results.
We present an account of dual pairs and the Kummer shapes for $n:m$ resonances that provides an alternative to Holm and Vizman's work. The advantages of our point of view are that the associated Poisson structure on $\mathfrak{su}(2)^{*}$ is the standard $(+)$-Lie--Poisson bracket independent of the values of $(n,m)$ as well as that the Kummer shape is regularized to become a sphere without any pinches regardless of the values of $(n,m)$. A similar result holds for $n:-m$ resonance with a paraboloid and $\mathfrak{su}(1,1)^{*}$. The result also has a straightforward generalization to multidime…
We compute the bi-Hamiltonian cohomology of an arbitrary dispersionless Poisson pencil in a single dependent variable using a spectral sequence method. As in the KdV case, we obtain that $BH^p_d(\hat{F}, d_1,d_2)$ is isomorphic to $\mathbb{R}$ for $(p,d)=(0,0)$, to $C^\infty (\mathbb{R})$ for $(p,d)=(1,1)$, $(2,1)$, $(2,3)$, $(3,3)$, and vanishes otherwise.
We prove the existence of stationary solutions for the density of an infinitely extended plasma interacting with an arbitrary configuration of background charges. Furthermore, we show that the solution cannot be unique if the total charge of the background is attractive. In this case, infinitely many different stationary solutions exist. The non-uniqueness can be explained by the presence of trapped particles orbiting the attractive background charge.
We provide an analytical solution for the elastic fields in a two-dimensional unbounded isotropic body with a rigid inclusion. Our analysis is based on the boundary integral formulation of the elastostatic problem and geometric function theory. Specifically, we use the coordinate system provided by the exterior conformal mapping of the inclusion to define a density basis functions on the boundary of the inclusion, and we use the Faber polynomials associated with the inclusion for a basis inside the inclusion. The latter, which constitutes the main novelty of our approach, allows us to obtain a…
This is a review of recent work on the chiral extensions of the WZNW phase space describing both the extensions based on fields with generic monodromy as well as those using Bloch waves with diagonal monodromy. The symplectic form on the extended phase space is inverted in both cases and the chiral WZNW fields are found to satisfy quadratic Poisson bracket relations characterized by monodromy dependent exchange r-matrices. Explicit expressions for the exchange r-matrices in terms of the arbitrary monodromy dependent 2-form appearing in the chiral WZNW symplectic form are given. The exchange r-…
The AKSZ construction was developed as a geometrical formalism to find the solution to the classical master equation in the BV quantization of topological branes based on the concept of QP manifolds. However, the formalism does not apply in presence of Wess-Zumino terms, as demonstrated recently by Ikeda and Strobl in the simplest example of WZW-Poisson sigma models. In this contribution, we review a class of topological field theories in arbitrary dimensions, the twisted R-Poisson sigma models, which suitably generalize Poisson or twisted Poisson sigma models. Their relation to differential g…
Rationally extended shape invariant potentials in arbitrary D-dimensions are obtained by using point canonical transformation (PCT) method. The bound-state solutions of these exactly solvable potentials can be written in terms of X_m Laguerre or X_m Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials. These potentials are isospectral to their usual counterparts and possess translationally shape invariance property.
A family of solutions of the Jacobi PDEs is investigated. This family is $n$-dimensional, of arbitrary nonlinearity and can be globally analyzed (thus improving the usual local scope of Darboux theorem). As an outcome of this analysis it is demonstrated that such Poisson structures lead to integrable systems. The solution family embraces as particular cases different systems of applied interest that are also regarded as examples.
