We establish very general criteria for the existence of multiplication operators between noncommutative Orlicz spaces $L^{ψ_0}(\tM)$ and $L^{ψ_1}(\tM)$. We then show that these criteria contain existing results, before going on to briefly look at the extent to which the theory of multipliers on Orlicz spaces differs from that of $L^p$-spaces. In closing we describe the compactness properties of such operators.
We introduce noncommutative weak Orlicz spaces associated with a weight and study their properties. We also define noncommutative weak Orlicz-Hardy spaces and characterize their dual spaces.
This paper studies the $N$-tuple noncommutative Orlicz spaces $\bigoplus\limits_{j=1}^{n}L_{p,λ}^{(Φ_{j})}(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$, where $L^{(Φ_{j})}(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$ is noncommutative Orlicz spaces and $\widetilde{\mathcal{M}}$ is the $τ$-measurable operators. Based on the maximum principle, we give the Riesz-Thorin interpolation theorem on $\bigoplus\limits_{j=1}^{n}L_{p,λ}^{(Φ_{j})}(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$ . As applications, the Clarkson inequality and some geometrical properties such as uniform convexity and unform smooth of noncommutative Orlicz space.
In this paper, we study the Kadec-Klee property for convergence in measure of noncommutative Orlicz spaces $L_φ(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$, where $\widetilde{\mathcal{M}}$ is a von Neumann algebra, and $φ$ is an Orlicz function. We show that if $φ\inΔ_{2}$, $L_φ(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$ has the Kadec-Klee property in measure. As a corollary, the dual space and reflexivity of $L_φ(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$ are given.
Using the Falcone--Takesaki theory of noncommutative integration and Kosaki's canonical representation, we construct a family of noncommutative Orlicz spaces that are associated to an arbitrary W*-algebra without any choice of weight involved, and we show that this construction is functorial over the category of W*-algebras with *-isomorphisms as arrows. Under a choice of representation, these spaces are isometrically isomorphic to Kunze's noncommutative Orlicz spaces over crossed products.
In this paper, we study the noncommutative Orlicz space $L_φ(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$, which generalizes the concept of noncommutative $L^{p}$ space, where $\mathcal{M}$ is a von Neumann algebra, and $φ$ is an Orlicz function. As a modular space, the space $L_φ(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$ possesses the Fatou property, and consequently, it is a Banach space. In addition, a new description of the subspace $E_φ(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)=\overline{\mathcal{M}\bigcap L_φ(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)}$ in $L_φ(\widetilde{\mathcal{M}},τ)$, which is closed under the norm topology and dense under the…
For a noncommutative Orlicz space associated with a semifnite von Neumann algebra, a faithful normal semifnite trace and an Orlicz function satisfying $(δ_2,Δ_2)-$condition, an individual ergodic theorem is proved.
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a $σ$-finite von Neumann algebra equipped with a normal faithful state $φ$, and let $Φ$ be a growth function. We consider Haagerup noncommutative Orlicz spaces $L^Φ(\M,φ)$ associated with $\M$ and $φ$, which are analogues of Haagerup $L^p$-spaces. We show that $L^Φ(\M,φ)$ is independent of $φ$ up to isometric isomorphism. We prove the Haagerup's reduction theorem and the duality theorem for this spaces. As application of these results, we extend some noncommutative martingale inequalities in the tracial case to the Haagerup noncommutative Orlicz space case.
We introduce a noncommutative analogue of the Figá-Talamanca-Herz algebra $A_p(G)$ on the natural predual of the operator space $\frak{M}_{p,cb}$ of completely bounded Schur multipliers on Schatten space $S_p$. We determine the isometric Schur multipliers and prove that the space $\frak{M}_{p}$ of bounded Schur multipliers on Schatten space $S_p$ is the closure in the weak operator topology of the span of isometric multipliers.
In this work we undertake an extension of various aspects of the potential theory of Dirichlet forms from locally compact spaces to noncommutative C*-algebras with trace. In particular we introduce finite-energy states, potentials and multipliers of Dirichlet spaces. We prove several results among which the celebrated Deny's embedding theorem and the Deny's inequality, the fact that the carre' du champ of bounded potentials are finite-energy functionals and the relative supply of multipliers.
We prove noncommutative martingale inequalities associated with convex functions. More precisely, we obtain $Φ$-moment analogues of the noncommutative Burkholder inequalities and the noncommutative Rosenthal inequalities for any convex Orlicz function $Φ$ whose Matuzewska-Orlicz indices $p_Φ$ and $q_Φ$ are such that $1<p_Φ\leq q_Φ<2$ or $2<p_Φ\leq q_Φ<\infty$. These results generalize the noncommutative Burkholder/Rosenthal inequalities due to Junge and Xu.
We show how the known theory of noncommutative Orlicz spaces for semifinite von Neumann algebras equipped with an fns trace, may be recovered using crossed product techniques. Then using this as a template, we construct analogues of such spaces for type III algebras. The constructed spaces naturally dovetail with and closely mimic the behaviour of Haagerup $L^p$-spaces. We then define a modified $K$-method of interpolation which seems to better fit the present context, and give a formal prescription for using this method to define what may be regarded as type III Riesz-Fischer spaces.
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a semifinite von Nemann algebra equipped with an increasing filtration $(\mathcal{M}_n)_{n\geq 1}$ of (semifinite) von Neumann subalgebras of $\M$. For $0<p \leq\infty$, let $\h_p^c(\mathcal{M})$ denote the noncommutative column conditioned martingale Hardy space associated with the filtration $(\mathcal{M}_n)_{n\geq 1}$ and the index $p$. We prove that for $0<p<\infty$, the compatible couple $\big(\h_p^c(\mathcal{M}), \h_\infty^c(\mathcal{M})\big)$ is $K$-closed in the couple $\big(L_p(\mathcal{N}), L_\infty(\mathcal{N}) \big)$ for an appropriate amplified semifinite von …
It is known that, for a positive Dunford-Schwartz operator in a noncommutative $L^p-$space, $1\leq p<\infty$ or, more generally, in a noncommutative Orlicz space with order continuous norm, the corresponding ergodic averages converge bilaterally almost uniformly. We show that these averages converge bilaterally almost uniformly in each noncommutative symmetric space $E$ such that $μ_t(x) \to 0$ as $t \to 0$ for every $x \in E$, where $μ_t(x)$ is a non-increasing rearrangement of $x$. In particular, these averages converge bilaterally almost uniformly in all noncommutative symmetric spaces with…
We introduce a noncommutative analogue of the absolute value of a regular operator acting on a noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-space. We equally prove that two classical operator norms, the regular norm and the decomposable norm are identical. We also describe precisely the regular norm of several classes of regular multipliers. This includes Schur multipliers and Fourier multipliers on some unimodular locally compact groups which can be approximated by discrete groups in various senses. A main ingredient is to show the existence of a bounded projection from the space of completely bounded $\mat…
We obtain dimension free estimates for noncommutative Riesz transforms associated to conditionally negative length functions on group von Neumann algebras. This includes Poisson semigroups, beyond Bakry's results in the commutative setting. Our proof is inspired by Pisier's method and a new Khintchine inequality for crossed products. New estimates include Riesz transforms associated to fractional laplacians in $\mathbb{R}^n$ (where Meyer's conjecture fails) or to the word length of free groups. Lust-Piquard's work for discrete laplacians on LCA groups is also generalized in several ways. In th…

It was shown by Chen, Xu and Yin that completely bounded Fourier multipliers on noncommutative $L_p$-spaces of quantum tori $\mathbb T^d_θ$ do not depend on the parameter $θ$. We establish that the situation is somehow different for bounded multipliers. The arguments are based on transference from the commutative torus.

We exhibit large classes of contractions on noncommutative $L^p$-spaces which satisfy the noncommutative analogue of Matsaev's conjecture, introduced by Peller, in 1985. In particular, we prove that every Schur multiplier on a Schatten space $S^p$ induced by a contractive Schur multiplier on $B(\ell^2)$ associated with a real matrix satisfy this conjecture. Moreover, we deal with analogue questions for $C_0$-semigroups. Finally, we disprove a conjecture of Peller concerning norms on the space of complex polynomials arising from Matsaev's conjecture and Peller's problem. Indeed, if $S$ denotes …
We investigate Fourier multipliers on the compact dual of arbitrary discrete groups. Our main result is a Hörmander-Mihlin multiplier theorem for finite-dimensional cocycles with optimal smoothness condition. We also find Littlewood-Paley type inequalities in group von Neumann algebras, prove $L_p$ estimates for noncommutative Riesz transforms and characterize $L_\infty \to \mathrm{BMO}$ boundedness for radial Fourier multipliers. The key novelties of our approach are to exploit group cocycles and cross products in Fourier multiplier theory in conjunction with BMO spaces associated to semigrou…
We state several equivalent noncommutative versions of the Cauchy-Riemann equations and characterize the unbounded operators on L^2(R) which satisfy them. These operators arise from the creation operator via a functional calculus involving a class of entire functions, identified by Newman and Shapiro [D. J. Newman and H. S. Shapiro, Fischer spaces of entire functions, in Entire Functions and Related Parts of Analysis (J. Koorevaar, ed.), AMS Proc. Symp. Pure Math. XI (1968), 360-369], which act as unbounded multiplication operators on Bargmann-Segal space.
The theory of one-sided $M$-ideals and multipliers of operator spaces is simultaneously a generalization of classical $M$-ideals, ideals in operator algebras, and aspects of the theory of Hilbert $C^*$-modules and their maps. Here we give a systematic exposition of this theory; a reference tool for `noncommutative functional analysts' who may encounter a one-sided $M$-ideal or multiplier in their work.
A noncommutative solenoid is the C*-algebra $C^\ast(\Q_N^2,σ)$ where $\Q_N$ is the group of the $N$-adic rationals twisted and $σ$ is a multiplier of $\Q_N^2$. In this paper, we use techniques from noncommutative topology to classify these C*-algebras up to *-isomorphism in terms of the multipliers of $\Q_N^2$. We also establish a necessary and sufficient condition for simplicity of noncommutative solenoids, compute their K-theory and show that the $K_0$ groups of noncommutative solenoids are given by the extensions of $\Z$ by $\Q_N$. We give a concrete description of non-simple noncommutative…
In this work, we solve the problem explicitly stated at the end of a paper of Junge, Mei and Parcet [JEMS2018, Problem C.5] for a large class of groups including all amenable groups and free groups. More precisely, we prove that the Hodge-Dirac operator of the canonical "hidden" noncommutative geometry associated with a Markov semigroup $(T_t)_{t \geq 0}$ of Fourier multipliers is bisectorial and admits a bounded $\mathrm{H}^\infty$ functional calculus on a bisector which implies a positive answer to the quoted problem. Our result can be seen as a strengthening of the dimension free estimates …
In this paper we solve three problems in noncommutative harmonic analysis which are related to endpoint inequalities for singular integrals. In first place, we prove that an $L_2$-form of Hörmander's kernel condition suffices for the weak type (1,1) of Calderón-Zygmund operators acting on matrix-valued functions. To that end, we introduce an improved CZ decomposition for martingale filtrations in von Neumann algebras, and apply a very simple unconventional argument which notably avoids pseudolocalization. In second place, we establish as well the weak $L_1$ endpoint for matrix-valued CZ operat…
In 2010, Lafforgue and de la Salle gave examples of noncommutative Lp-spaces without the operator space approximation property (OAP) and, hence, without the completely bounded approximation property (CBAP). To this purpose, they introduced the property of completely bounded approximation by Schur multipliers on Sp and proved that for p < 4/3 and p > 4 the groups SL(n,Z), with n \geq 3, do not have it. Since for 1 < p < \infty the property of completely bounded approximation by Schur multipliers on Sp is weaker than the approximation property of Haagerup and Kraus (AP), these groups were also t…
This text is a detailed overview of the theories of W*-algebras and noncommutative integration, up to the Falcone-Takesaki theory of noncommutative Lp spaces over arbitrary W*-algebras, and its extension to noncommutative Orlicz spaces. The topics under consideration include the Tomita-Takesaki modular theory, the relative modular theory (featuring bimodules, spatial quotients, and canonical representation), the theory of W*-dynamical systems (featuring derivations, liouvilleans, and crossed products), noncommutative Radon-Nikodym type theorems, and operator valued weights. We pay special atte…
We prove the noncommutative Davis decomposition for the column Hardy space $\H_p^c$ for all $0<p\leq 1$. A new feature of our Davis decomposition is a simultaneous control of $\H_1^c$ and $\H_q^c$ norms for any noncommutative martingale in $\H_1^c \cap \H_q^c$ when $q\geq 2$. As applications, we show that the Burkholder/Rosenthal inequality holds for bounded martingales in a noncommutative symmetric space associated with a function space $E$ that is either an interpolation of the couple $(L_p, L_2)$ for some $1<p<2$ or is an interpolation of the couple $(L_2, L_q)$ for some $2<q<\infty$. We al…
We define the localisation of a Hilbert module in analogy to the local multiplier algebra. We use properties of this localisation to enrich non-closed actions on $C^*$-algebras to closed actions on local multiplier algebras, and descend known results on such closed actions down to their unclosed counterparts. We define weak Cartan inclusions and characterise them as crossed products by inverse semigroup actions. We show that in the commutative case we show that weak Cartan subalgebras are maximal abelian, thereby generalising the case studied by Renault.
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a semifinite von Nemann algebra equipped with an increasing filtration $(\mathcal{M}_n)_{n\geq 1}$ of (semifinite) von Neumann subalgebras of $\mathcal{M}$. For $0<p <\infty$, let $\mathsf{h}_p^c(\mathcal{M})$ denote the noncommutative column conditioned martingale Hardy space and $\bmo^c(\M)$ denote the column \lq\lq little\rq\rq \ martingale BMO space associated with the filtration $(\mathcal{M}_n)_{n\geq 1}$. We prove the following real interpolation identity: if $0<p <\infty$ and $0<θ<1$, then for $1/r=(1-θ)/p$, \[ \big(\mathsf{h}_p^c(\mathcal{M}), \bmo^c(\mathcal{M})\…
We prove that noncommutative solenoids are limits, in the sense of the Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity, of quantum tori. From this observation, we prove that noncommutative solenoids can be approximated by finite dimensional quantum compact metric spaces, and that they form a continuous family of quantum compact metric spaces over the space of multipliers of the solenoid, properly metrized.
Let $Γ< G$ be a discrete subgroup of a locally compact unimodular group $G$. Let $m\in C_b(G)$ be a $p$-multiplier on $G$ with $1 \leq p < \infty$ and let $T_{m}: L_p(\widehat{G}) \rightarrow L_p(\widehat{G})$ be the corresponding Fourier multiplier. Similarly, let $T_{m \vert_Γ}: L_p(\widehatΓ) \rightarrow L_p(\widehatΓ)$ be the Fourier multiplier associated to the restriction $m|_Γ$ of $m$ to $Γ$. We show that \[ c( {\rm supp}( m\vert_Γ ) ) \Vert T_{m \vert_Γ}: L_p(\widehatΓ) \rightarrow L_p(\widehatΓ) \Vert \leq \Vert T_{m }: L_p(\widehat{G}) \rightarrow L_p(\widehat{G}) \Vert, \] for a spe…
Let p be prime. A noncommutative p-solenoid is the C*-algebra of Z[1/p] x Z[1/p] twisted by a multiplier of that group, where Z[1/p] is the additive subgroup of the field Q of rational numbers whose denominators are powers of p. In this paper, we survey our classification of these C*-algebras up to *-isomorphism in terms of the multipliers on Z[1/p], using techniques from noncommutative topology. Our work relies in part on writing these C*-algebras as direct limits of rotation algebras, i.e. twisted group C*-algebras of the group Z^2 thereby providing a mean for computing the K-theory of the n…
We study operator spaces, operator algebras, and operator modules, from the point of view of the `noncommutative Shilov boundary'. In this attempt to utilize some `noncommutative Choquet theory', we find that Hilbert C$^*-$modules and their properties, which we studied earlier in the operator space framework, replace certain topological tools. We introduce certain multiplier operator algebras and C$^*-$algebras of an operator space, which generalize the algebras of adjointable operators on a C$^*-$module, and the `imprimitivity C$^*-$algebra'. It also generalizes a classical Banach space notio…
In a previous paper we showed how the main theorems characterizing operator algebras and operator modules, fit neatly into the framework of the `noncommutative Shilov boundary', and more particularly via the left multiplier operator algebra of an operator space. As well as giving new characterization theorems, the approach of that paper allowed many of the hypotheses of the earlier theorems to be eliminated. Recent progress of the author with Effros and Zarikian now enables weak*-versions of these characterization theorems. For example, we prove a result analogous to Sakai's famous characteriz…
We study BMO spaces associated with semigroup of operators and apply the results to boundedness of Fourier multipliers. We prove a universal interpolation theorem for BMO spaces and prove the boundedness of a class of Fourier multipliers on noncommutative Lp spaces for all 1 < p < \infty, with optimal constants in p.
Let $G$ be a locally compact unimodular group, let $1\leq p<\infty$,let $ϕ\in L^\infty(G)$ and assume that the Fourier multiplier $M_ϕ$associated with $ϕ$ is bounded on the noncommutative $L^p$-space $L^p(VN(G))$.Then $M_ϕ\colon L^p(VN(G))\to L^p(VN(G))$ is separating (that is,$\{a^*b=ab^*=0\}\Rightarrow\{M_ϕ(a)^* M_ϕ(b)=M_ϕ(a)M_ϕ(b)^*=0\}$for any $a,b\in L^p(VN(G))$) if and only if thereexists $c\in\mathbb C$ and a continuouscharacter $ψ\colon G\to\mathbb C$ such that $ϕ=cψ$ locally almost everywhere. This provides a characterization of isometricFourier multipliers on $L^p(VN(G))$, when $p\no…

In this paper we continue our investigation concerning the hyperbolic geometry on the noncommutative ball $[B(H)^n]_1^-$, where $B(H)$ is the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space $H$, and its implications to noncommutative function theory. The central object is an intertwining operator $L_{B,A}$ of the minimal isometric dilations of $A, B\in [B(H)^n]_1^-$, which establishes a strong connection between noncommutative hyperbolic geometry on $[B(H)^n]_1^-$ and multivariable dilation theory. The goal of this paper is to study the operator $L_{B,A}$ and its connections to the …
We prove the little Grothendieck theorem for any 2-convex noncommutative symmetric space. Let $\M$ be a von Neumann algebra equipped with a normal faithful semifinite trace $\t$, and let $E$ be an r.i. space on $(0, \8)$. Let $E(\M)$ be the associated symmetric space of measurable operators. Then to any bounded linear map $T$ from $E(\M)$ into a Hilbert space $\mathcal H$ corresponds a positive norm one functional $f\in E_{(2)}(\M)^*$ such that $$\forall x\in E(\M)\quad \|T(x)\|^2\le K^2 \|T\|^2 f(x^*x+xx^*),$$ where $E_{(2)}$ denotes the 2-concavification of $E$ and $K$ is a universal constan…
Calderón-Zygmund operators with noncommuting kernels may fail to be Lp-bounded for $p \neq 2$, even for kernels with good size and smoothness properties. Matrix-valued paraproducts, Fourier multipliers on group vNa's or noncommutative martingale transforms are frameworks where we find such difficulties. We obtain weak type estimates for perfect dyadic CZO's and cancellative Haar shifts associated to noncommuting kernels in terms of a row/column decomposition of the function. Arbitrary CZO's satisfy $H_1 \to L_1$ type estimates. In conjunction with $L_\infty \to BMO$, we get certain row/column …
We develop fully noncommutative Feynman-Kac formulae by employing quantum stochastic processes. To this end we establish some theory for perturbing quantum stochastic flows on von Neumann algebras by multiplier cocycles. Multiplier cocycles are constructed via quantum stochastic differential equations whose coefficients are driven by the flow. The resulting class of cocycles is characterised under alternative assumptions of separability or Markov regularity. Our results generalise those obtained using classical Brownian motion on the one hand, and results for unitarily implemented flows on the…
While there has been growing interest for noncommutative spaces in recent times, most examples have been based on the simplest noncommutative algebra: [x_i,x_j]=i theta_{ij}. Here we present new classes of (non-formal) deformed products associated to linear Lie algebras of the kind [x_i,x_j]=ic_{ij}^k x_k. For all possible three-dimensional cases, we define a new star product and discuss its properties. To complete the analysis of these novel noncommutative spaces, we introduce noncompact spectral triples, and the concept of star triple, a specialization of the spectral triple to deformations …
We construct an essential extension of $\mathcal K(\ell_2({\mathfrak{c}}))$ by $\mathcal K(\ell_2)$, where ${\mathfrak{c}}$ denotes the cardinality of continuum, i.e., a $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal A\subseteq \mathcal B(\ell_2)$ satisfying the short exact sequence $$0\rightarrow \mathcal K(\ell_2)\xrightarrowι \mathcal A \rightarrow\mathcal K(\ell_2({\mathfrak{c}}))\rightarrow 0,$$ where $ι[\mathcal K(\ell_2)]$ is an essential ideal of $\mathcal A$ such that the algebra of multipliers $\mathcal M(\mathcal A)$ of $\mathcal A$ is equal to the unitization of $\mathcal A$. In particular $\mathcal A$ i…
On a discrete group G a length function may implement a spectral triple on the reduced group C*-algebra. Following A. Connes, the Dirac operator of the triple then can induce a metric on the state space of reduced group C*-algebra. Recent studies by M. Rieffel raise several questions with respect to such a metric on the state space. Here it is proven that for a free non Abelian group, the metric on the state space is bounded. Further we propose a relaxation in the way a length function is used in the construction of a metric, and we show that for groups of rapid decay there are many metrics re…
