In [BEZ] the notion of a complete one-sided M-ideal for an operator space X was introduced as a generalization of Alfsen and Effros' notion of an M-ideal for a Banach space [AE72]. In particular, various equivalent formulations of complete one-sided M-projections were given. A bounded transform approach to self-adjoint operators: Functional calculus and affiliated von Neumann algebras

Spectral theory and functional calculus for unbounded self-adjoint operators on a Hilbert space are usually treated through von Neumann's Cayley transform. Based on ideas of Woronowicz, we redevelop this theory from the point of view of multiplier algebras and the so-called bounded transform (which establishes a bijective correspondence between closed operators and pure contractions). This also leads to a simple account of the affiliation relation between von Neumann algebras and self-adjoint operators.

Multipliers of locally compact quantum groups via Hilbert C$^*$-modules

A result of Gilbert shows that every completely bounded multiplier $f$ of the Fourier algebra $A(G)$ arises from a pair of bounded continuous maps $α,β:G \rightarrow K$, where $K$ is a Hilbert space, and $f(s^{-1}t) = (β(t)|α(s))$ for all $s,t\in G$. We recast this in terms of adjointable operators acting between certain Hilbert C$^*$-modules, and show that an analogous construction works for completely bounded left multipliers of a locally compact quantum group. Local maps and the representation theory of operator algebras

Using representation theory techniques we prove that various spaces of derivations or one-sided multipliers over certain operator algebras are reflexive. A sample result: any bounded local derivation (local left multiplier) on an automorphic semicrossed product is a derivation (resp. left multiplier). In the process we obtain various results of independent interest. In particular, the finite dimensional nest representations of the tensor algebra of a topological graph separate points.

Noncommutative complex analysis and Bargmann-Segal multipliers

We state several equivalent noncommutative versions of the Cauchy-Riemann equations and characterize the unbounded operators on L^2(R) which satisfy them. These operators arise from the creation operator via a functional calculus involving a class of entire functions, identified by Newman and Shapiro [D. J. Newman and H. S. Shapiro, Fischer spaces of entire functions, in Entire Functions and Related Parts of Analysis (J. Koorevaar, ed.), AMS Proc. Symp. Pure Math. XI (1968), 360-369], which act as unbounded multiplication operators on Bargmann-Segal space.

Localization and Non-propagation in a Groupoid Framework

Normal elements (or multipliers) of the C* algebra of a certain class of locally compact groupoids admit a natural faithful representation as normal operators on the $L^2$-space of a dense orbit of the groupoid. We prove norm estimates on the product between elements of the functional calculus of these operators and multiplication operators, subject to suitable restrictions expressed in terms of the orbit structure of the groupoid. As a consequence, one gets uniform estimates on the local behavior of the evolution group of the operators.

Spectral invariance for certain algebras of pseudodifferential operators

We construct algebras of pseudodifferential operators on a continuous family groupoid G that are closed under holomorphic functional calculus, contain the algebra of all pseudodifferential operators of order 0 on G as a dense subalgebra, and reflect the smooth structure of the groupoid G, when G is smooth. As an application, we get a better understanding on the structure of inverses of elliptic pseudodifferential operators on classes of non-compact manifolds. Sets of multiplicity and closable multipliers on group algebras

We undertake a detailed study of the sets of multiplicity in a second countable locally compact group $G$ and their operator versions. We establish a symbolic calculus for normal completely bounded maps from the space $\mathcal{B}(L^2(G))$ of bounded linear operators on $L^2(G)$ into the von Neumann algebra $VN(G)$ of $G$ and use it to show that a closed subset $E\subseteq G$ is a set of multiplicity if and only if the set $E^* = \{(s,t)\in G\times G : ts^{-1}\in E\}$ is a set of operator multiplicity. Pseudodifferential Calculus, Twisted gerbes and twisted index theory for Lie groupoids

The goal of this paper is to construct a calculus whose higher indices are naturally elements in the twisted K-theory groups for Lie groupoids. Given a Lie groupoid $G$ and a $PU(H)$-valued groupoid cocycle, we construct an algebra of projective pseudodifferential operators.
