In this paper, binary extremal singly even self-dual codes of length 40 and extremal odd unimodular lattices in dimension 40 are studied. We give a classification of extremal singly even self-dual codes of length 40. We also give a classification of extremal odd unimodular lattices in dimension 40 with shadows having 80 vectors of norm 2 through their relationships with extremal doubly even self-dual codes of length 40.
An $s$-extremal optimal unimodular lattice in dimension $52$ is constructed for the first time. This lattice is constructed from a certain self-dual $\mathbb{F}_5$-code by Construction A. In addition, as neighbors of the lattice, two more $s$-extremal optimal unimodular lattices are constructed.
New $s$-extremal extremal unimodular lattices in dimensions $38$, $40$, $42$ and $44$ are constructed from self-dual codes over $\mathbb{F}_5$ by Construction A. In the process of constructing these codes, we obtain a self-dual $[44,22,14]$ code over $\mathbb{F}_5$. In addition, the code implies a $[43,22,13]$ code over $\mathbb{F}_5$. These codes have larger minimum weights than the previously known $[44,22]$ codes and $[43,22]$ codes, respectively.
In this paper, new extremal odd unimodular lattices in dimension $36$ are constructed. Some new odd unimodular lattices in dimension $36$ with long shadows are also constructed.
For some extremal (optimal) odd unimodular lattices L in dimensions n=12,16,20,32,36,40 and 44, we determine all positive integers k such that L contains a k-frame. This result yields the existence of an extremal Type I Zk-code of lengths 12,16,20,32,36,40 and 44 and a near-extremal Type I Zk-code of length 28 for positive integers k with only a few exceptions.
It is shown that if there is an extremal even unimodular lattice in dimension 72, then there is an optimal odd unimodular lattice in that dimension. Hence, the first example of an optimal odd unimodular lattice in dimension 72 is constructed from the extremal even unimodular lattice which has been recently found by G. Nebe.

A classification of extremal double circulant self-dual codes of lengths up to $88$ is known. We give a classification of extremal double circulant self-dual codes of lengths $90,92,94$ and $96$. We also classify double circulant self-dual codes with parameters $[90,45,14]$ and $[96,48,16]$. In addition, we demonstrate that no double circulant self-dual $[90,45,14]$ code has an extremal self-dual neighbor, and no double circulant self-dual $[96,45,16]$ code has a self-dual neighbor with minimum weight at least $18$.
For lengths $64$ and $66$, we construct extremal singly even self-dual codes with weight enumerators for which no extremal singly even self-dual codes were previously known to exist. We also construct new $40$ inequivalent extremal doubly even self-dual $[64,32,12]$ codes with covering radius $12$ meeting the Delsarte bound.
In this work, quadratic double and quadratic bordered double circulant constructions are applied to F_4 + uF_4 as well as F_4, as a result of which extremal binary self-dual codes of length 56 and 64 are obtained. The binary extension theorems as well as the ring extension version are used to obtain 7 extremal self-dual binary codes of length 58, 24 extremal self-dual binary codes of length 66 and 29 extremal self-dual binary codes of length 68, all with new weight enumerators, updating the list of all the known extremal self-dual codes in the literature.
In this note, we demonstrate that every binary doubly even self-dual code of length $40$ can be realized as the residue code of some extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-code. As a consequence, it is shown that there are at least $94356$ inequivalent extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of length $40$.
We introduce an altered version of the four circulant construction over group rings for self-dual codes. We consider this construction over the binary field, the rings F_2 + uF_2 and F_4 + uF_4; using groups of order 3, 7, 9, 13, and 15. Through these constructions and their extensions, we find binary self-dual codes of lengths 32, 40, 56, 64, 68 and 80, all of which are extremal or optimal. In this work, new construction methods for self-dual codes are given. The methods use the short Kharaghani array and a variation of it. These are applicable to any commutative Frobenius ring. We apply the constructions over the ring F_2 + uF_2 and self-dual Type I [64, 32, 12]_2-codes with various weight enumerators obtained as Gray images. By the use of an extension theorem for self-dual codes we were able to construct 27 new extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68. The existence of the extremal binary self-dual codes with these weight enumerators was previously unknown.
By the Assmus and Mattson theorem, the codewords of each nontrivial weight in an extremal doubly even self-dual code of length 24m form a self-orthogonal 5-design. In this paper, we study the codes constructed from self-orthogonal 5-designs with the same parameters as the above 5-designs. In this work, connected cubic planar bipartite graphs and related binary self-dual codes are studied. Binary self-dual codes of length 16 are obtained by face-vertex incidence matrices of these graphs. By considering their lifts to the ring R_2 new extremal binary self-dual codes of lengths 64 are constructed as Gray images. More precisely, we construct 15 new codes of length 64. A classical result of Conway and Pless is that a natural projection of the fixed code of an automorphism of odd prime order of a self-dual binary linear code is self-dual. In this paper we prove that the same holds for involutions under some (quite strong) conditions on the codes. In order to prove it, we introduce a new family of binary codes: the semi self-dual codes. We give methods for constructing many self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_m$-codes and Type II $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$-codes of length $2n$ starting from a given self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_m$-code and Type II $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$-code of length $2n$, respectively. As an application, we construct extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$-codes of length $24$ for $k=4,5,\ldots,20$ and extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$-codes of length $32$ for $k=4,5,\ldots,10$. We also construct new extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of lengths $56$ and $64$.
Self-dual codes over F5 exist for all even lengths. The smallest length for which the largest minimum weight among self-dual codes has not been determined is 24, and the largest minimum weight is either 9 or 10. In this note, we show that there exists no self-dual [24,12,10] code over F5, using the classification of 24-dimensional odd unimodular lattices due to Borcherds.
A lattice polytope $\mathcal{P}$ is called reflexive if its dual $\mathcal{P}^\vee$ is a lattice polytope. The property that $\mathcal{P}$ is unimodularly equivalent to $\mathcal{P}^\vee$ does not hold in general, and in fact there are few examples of such polytopes. In this note, we introduce a new reflexive simplex $Q_n$ which has this property. Additionally, we show that $δ$-polynomalial of $Q_n$ is the Eulerian polynomial and show the existence of a regular, flag, unimodular triangulation.
In this note we investigate extremal singly-even self-dual codes with minimal shadow. For particular parameters we prove non-existence of such codes. By a result of Rains \cite{Rains-asymptotic}, the length of extremal singly-even self-dual codes is bounded. We give explicit bounds in case the shadow is minimal.

In this work, we introduce the concept of distance between self-dual codes, which generalizes the concept of a neighbor for self-dual codes. Using the k-neighbors, we are able to construct extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68 with new weight enumerators. We construct 143 extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68 with new weight enumerators including 42 codes with gamma=8 in their W_{68,2} and 40 with gamma=9 in their W_{68,2}. These examples are the first in the literature for these gamma values. This completes the theoretical list of possible values for gamma in W_{68,2}.
In this work, we introduce new construction methods for self-dual codes using a Baumert-Hall array. We apply the constructions over the alphabets F_2 and F_4 + uF_4 and combine them with extension theorems and neighboring constructions. As a result, we construct 46 new extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68, 26 new best known Type II codes of length 72 and 8 new extremal Type II codes of length 80 that lead to new 3-(80,16,665) designs. Among the new codes of length 68 are the examples of codes with the rare γ= 5 parameter in W68;2. All these new codes are tabulated in the paper.
Ternary self-dual codes have been classified for lengths up to 20. At length 24, a classification of only extremal self-dual codes is known. In this paper, we give a complete classification of ternary self-dual codes of length 24 using the classification of 24-dimensional odd unimodular lattices.
In this note we report the classification of all symmetric 2-(36,15,6) designs that admit an automorphism of order 2 and their incidence matrices generate an extremal ternary self-dual code. It is shown that up to isomorphism, there exists only one such design, having a full automorphism group of order 24, and the ternary code spanned by its incidence matrix is equivalent to the Pless symmetry code.
The Birkhoff polytope, defined to be the convex hull of $n\times n$ permutation matrices, is a well studied polytope in the context of the Ehrhart theory. This polytope is known to have many desirable properties, such as the Gorenstein property and existence of regular, unimodular triangulations. In this paper, we study analogues of the Birkhoff polytope for finite irreducible Coxeter groups of other types. In this paper, we construct self-dual codes from a construction that involves both block circulant matrices and block quadratic residue circulant matrices. We provide conditions when this construction can yield self-dual codes. We construct self-dual codes of various lengths over F2 and F2 + uF2. Using extensions, neighbours and sequences of neighbours, we construct many new self-dual codes. In particular, we construct one new self-dual code of length 66 and 51 new self-dual codes of length 68.
We give an independent proof of the Krasikov-Litsyn bound d/n<~(1-5^{-1/4})/2 on doubly-even self-dual binary codes. The technique used (a refinement of the Mallows-Odlyzko-Sloane approach) extends easily to other families of self-dual codes, modular lattices, and quantum codes; in particular, we show that the Krasikov-Litsyn bound applies to singly-even binary codes, and obtain an analogous bound for unimodular lattices. We also show that in each case, our bound differs from the true optimum by an amount growing faster than O(n^{1/2}).
It is shown that the extended quadratic residue code of length 20 over GF(7) is a unique self-dual [20,10,9] code C such that the lattice obtained from C by Construction A is isomorphic to the 20-dimensional unimodular lattice D_{20}^+, up to equivalence. This is done by converting the classification of such self-dual codes to that of skew-Hadamard matrices of order 20.
