We present an on-shell formalism for superamplitudes of pure N<4 super Yang-Mills theory. Two superfields, Phi and Phi^+, are required to describe the two CPT conjugate supermultiplets. Simple truncation prescriptions allow us to derive explicit tree-level MHV and NMHV superamplitudes with N-fold SUSY. Any N=0,1,2 tree superamplitudes have large-z falloffs under super-BCFW shifts, except under [Phi,Phi^+>-shifts. We show that this `bad' shift is responsible for the bubble contributions to 1-loop amplitudes in N=0,1,2 SYM. We evaluate the MHV bubble coefficients in a manifestly supersymmetric form and demonstrate for the case of four external particles that the sum of bubble coefficients is equal to minus the tree superamplitude times the 1-loop beta-function coefficient. The connection to the beta-function is expected since only bubble integrals capture UV divergences; we discuss briefly how the minus sign arises from UV and IR divergences in dimensional regularization. Other applications of the on-shell formalism include a solution to the N^{K}MHV N=1 SUSY Ward identities and a clear description of the connection between 6d superamplitudes and the 4d ones for both N=4 and N=2 SYM. We outline extensions to N<8 supergravity.
Recently the spinor helicity and (two types of) superamplitude formalisms for 11D supergravity and 10D supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories were proposed in [1,2,3]. In this contribution we describe briefly the basic properties of these superamplitudes for the simpler case of 10D SYM.
Tree amplitudes of 10D supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM) and 11D supergravity (SUGRA) are collected in multi-particle counterparts of analytic on-shell superfields. These have essentially the same form as their chiral 4D counterparts describing ${\cal N}=4$ SYM and ${\cal N}=8$ SUGRA, but with components dependent on a different set of bosonic variables. These are the D=10 and D=11 spinor helicity variables, the set of which includes the spinor frame variable (Lorentz harmonics) and a scalar density, and generalized homogeneous coordinates of the coset $\frac{SO(D-2)}{SO(D-4)\otimes U(1)}…
We present an on-shell graphical framework for superamplitudes in super Yang-Mills theory with arbitrary supersymmetry. Our diagrammatic procedure is derived through manipulations of the full N = 4 superamplitude and illustrated by a number of explicit examples.
A self-consistent exposition of the theory of tree-level superamplitudes of the 4d N=4 and 6d N=(1,1) maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories is provided. In 4d we work in non-chiral superspace and construct the superconformal and dual superconformal symmetry generators of the N=4 SYM theory using the non-chiral BCFW recursion to prove the latter. In 6d we provide a complete derivation of the standard and hidden symmetries of the tree-level superamplitudes of N=(1,1) SYM theory, again using the BCFW recursion to prove the dual conformal symmetry. Furthermore, we demonstrate that compact a…
Supersymmetry and R-symmetry Ward identities relate on-shell amplitudes in a supersymmetric field theory. We solve these Ward identities for (Next-to)^K MHV amplitudes of the maximally supersymmetric N=4 and N=8 theories. The resulting superamplitude is written in a new, manifestly supersymmetric and R-invariant form: it is expressed as a sum of very simple SUSY and SU(N)_R-invariant Grassmann polynomials, each multiplied by a "basis amplitude". For (Next-to)^K MHV n-point superamplitudes the number of basis amplitudes is equal to the dimension of the irreducible representation of SU(n-4) corr…
We show that 10D spinor helicity formalism can be understood as spinor moving frame approach to supersymmetric particles extended to the description of amplitudes. This allows us to develop the spinor helicity formalism for 11D supergravity and a new constrained superfield formalism for 10D SYM and 11D SUGRA amplitudes. We show how the constrained on-shell superfields, one-particle counterparts of the superamplitudes, can be obtained by quantization of massless superparticle mechanics. We make some stages towards the calculation of amplitudes of 10D SYM and 11D SUGRA in this framework. In part…
We initiate a systematic study of amplitudes with massive external particles on the Coulomb-branch of N=4 super Yang Mills theory: 1) We propose that (multi-)soft-scalar limits of massless amplitudes at the origin of moduli space can be used to determine Coulomb-branch amplitudes to leading order in the mass. This is demonstrated in numerous examples. 2) We find compact explicit expressions for several towers of tree-level amplitudes, including scattering of two massive W-bosons with any number of positive helicity gluons, valid for all values of the mass. 3) We present the general structure o…
Celestial amplitude is a new reformulation of momentum space scattering amplitude and offers a promising way for flat holography. In this paper, we study the celestial amplitude in $\mathcal N=4$ Super-Yang-Mills (SYM) theory aiming at understanding the role of superconformal symmetry in celestial holography. We first construct the superconformal generators acting on the celestial superfield which assembles all the on-shell fields in the multiplet together in terms of celestial variables and Grassmann parameters. These generators satisfy the superconformal algebra of $\mathcal N=4$ SYM theory.…
In addition to the superconformal symmetry of the underlying Lagrangian, the scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory exhibit a new, dual superconformal symmetry. We address the question of how powerful these symmetries are to completely determine the scattering amplitudes. We use the example of the NMHV superamplitudes to show that the combined action of conventional and dual superconformal symmetries is not sufficient to fix all the freedom in the tree-level amplitudes. We argue that the additional information needed comes from the study of the analytic properties of the a…
We discuss what predictions can be made for one-loop superamplitudes in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory by using anomalous dual conformal symmetry. We show that the anomaly coefficient is a specific combination of two-mass hard and one-mass supercoefficients which appears in the supersymmetric on-shell recursion relations and equals the corresponding tree-level superamplitude. We discuss further novel relations among supercoefficients imposed by the remaining non-anomalous part of the symmetry. In particular, we find that all one-loop supercoefficients, except the four-mass box coef…
We prove that 1-loop n-point NMHV superamplitudes in N=4 SYM theory are dual conformal covariant for all numbers n of external particles (after regularization and subtraction of IR divergences). This property was previously established for n < 10 in arXiv:0808.0491. We derive an explicit representation of these superamplitudes in terms of dual conformal cross-ratios. We also show that all the 1-loop `box coefficients' obtained from maximal cuts of N^kMHV n-point functions are covariant under dual conformal transformations.
We propose the on-shell superfield description for tree amplitudes of D=11 supergravity and the BCFW (Britto-Cachazo-Feng-Witten)-type recurrent relations for these superamplitudes.
By applying the known expressions for SYM and SUGRA tree amplitudes, we write generating functions for the NNMHV box coefficients of SYM as well as the MHV, NMHV, and NNMHV box coefficients for SUGRA. The all-multiplicity generating functions utilize covariant, on-shell superspace whereby the contribution from arbitrary external states in the supermultiplet can be extracted by Grassmann operators. In support of the relation between dual Wilson loops and SYM scattering amplitudes at weak coupling, the SYM amplitudes are presented in a manifestly dual superconformal form. We introduce ordered bo…
We perform the twistor (half-Fourier) transform of all tree n-particle superamplitudes in N=4 SYM and show that it has a transparent geometric interpretation. We find that the N^kMHV amplitude is supported on a set of (2k+1) intersecting lines in twistor space and demonstrate that the corresponding line moduli form a lightlike (2k+1)-gon in moduli space. This polygon is triangulated into two kinds of lightlike triangles lying in different planes. We formulate simple graphical rules for constructing the triangulated polygons, from which the analytic expressions of the N^kMHV amplitudes follow d…
The idea of adding particles to construct amplitudes has been utilized in various ways in exploring the structure of scattering amplitudes. This idea is often called Inverse Soft Limit, namely it is the reverse mechanism of taking particles to be soft. We apply the Inverse Soft Limit to the tree-level amplitudes in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory, which allows us to generate full tree-level superamplitudes by adding "soft" particles in a certain way. With the help from Britto-Cachazo-Feng-Witten recursion relations, a systematic and concrete way of adding particles is determined recurs…
In this paper we consider tree-level gauge invariant off-shell amplitudes (Wilson line form factors) in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM. For the off-shell amplitudes with one leg off-shell we present a conjecture for their Grassmannian integral representation in spinor helicity, twistor and momentum twistor parameterizations. The presented conjecture is successfully checked against BCFW results for MHV$_n$, NMHV$_4$ and NMHV$_5$ off-shell amplitudes. We have also verified that our Grassmannian integral representation correctly reproduces soft (on-shell) limit for the off-shell gluon momentum. It is shown …
In this paper we develop a supersymmetric version of unitarity cut method for form factors of operators from the chiral truncation of the the $\mathcal{N}=4$ stress-tensor current supermultiplet $T^{AB}$. The relation between the superform factor with supermomentum equals to zero and the logarithmic derivative of the superamplitude with respect to the coupling constant is discussed and verified at tree- and one-loop level for any MHV $n$-point ($n \geq 4$) superform factor involving operators from chiral truncation of the stress-tensor energy supermultiplet. The explicit $\mathcal{N}=4$ covari…
In this paper we consider tree-level gauge invariant off-shell amplitudes (Wilson line form factors) in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM with arbitrary number of off-shell gluons or equivalently Wilson line operator insertions. We make a conjecture for the Grassmannian integral representation for such objects and verify our conjecture on several examples. It is remarkable that in our formulation one can consider situation when on-shell particles are not present at all, i.e. we have Grassmannian integral representation for purely off-shell object. In addition we show that off-shell amplitude with arbitrary …
Form factors are quantities that involve both asymptotic on-shell states and gauge invariant operators. They provide a natural bridge between on-shell amplitudes and off-shell correlation functions of operators, thus allowing us to use modern on-shell amplitude techniques to probe into the off-shell side of quantum field theory. In particular, form factors have been successfully used in computing the cusp (soft) anomalous dimensions and anomalous dimensions of general local operators. This review is intended to provide a pedagogical introduction to some of these developments. We will first rev…
It is a brief account of the harmonic superspace formulations of {\cal N}=(1,0) and {\cal N}=(1,1) SYM theories in six dimensions. The on-shell {\cal N}=(1,1) harmonic superspace is argued to provide an efficient tool of constructing candidate counterterms and other invariants of {\cal N}=(1,1) SYM. It allows one, e.g., to find out an essential difference between the single- and double-trace dimension d=10 invariants, which could be capable to explain the absence of the three-loop double-trace (non-planar) counterterms in this theory. The defining superspace constraints of {\cal N}=(1,1) SYM a…
We continue the discussion of the decorated on-shell diagrammatics for planar N < 4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories started in arXiv:1510.03642. In particular, we focus on its relation with the structure of varieties on the Grassmannian. The decoration of the on-shell diagrams, which physically keeps tracks of the helicity of the coherent states propagating along their edges, defines new on-shell functions on the Grassmannian and can introduce novel higher-order singularities, which graphically are reflected into the presence of helicity loops in the diagrams. These new structures turn out …
