We prove that the Novikov-Veselov equation (an analog of KdV in dimension 2 + 1) at zero energy does not have sufficiently localized soliton solutions of conductivity type.
We demonstrate that the Novikov.Veselov equation (a (2+1)-dimensional analog of KdV) at zero energy does not possess solitons with the space localization stronger than O(|x|^{-4}).
In this note we show that the Novikov-Veselov equation at positive energy (an analog of KdV in 2+1 dimensions) has no exponentially localized solitons ( in the two-dimensional sense).
We show that the Novikov--Veselov equation (an analog of KdV in dimension 2 + 1) at positive and negative energies does not have solitons with the space localization stronger than O(|x|^{-3}) as |x| \to \infty.
In the present paper we begin studies on the large time asymptotic behavior for solutions of the Cauchy problem for the Novikov--Veselov equation (an analog of KdV in 2 + 1 dimensions) at positive energy. In addition, we are focused on a family of reflectionless (transparent) potentials parameterized by a function of two variables. In particular, we show that there are no isolated soliton type waves in the large time asymptotics for these solutions in contrast with well-known large time asymptotics for solutions of the KdV equation with reflectionless initial data.
In the present paper we are concerned with the Novikov--Veselov equation at negative energy, i.e. with the $ (2 + 1) $--dimensional analog of the KdV equation integrable by the method of inverse scattering for the two--dimensional Schrödinger equation at negative energy. We show that the solution of the Cauchy problem for this equation with non--singular scattering data behaves asymptotically as $ \frac{\const}{t^{3/4}} $ in the uniform norm at large times $ t $. We also present some arguments which indicate that this asymptotics is optimal.
The Novikov-Veselov (NV) equation is a (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear evolution equation that generalizes the (1+1)-dimensional Korteweg-deVries (KdV) equation. Solution of the NV equation using the inverse scattering method has been discussed in the literature, but only formally (or with smallness assumptions in case of nonzero energy) because of the possibility of exceptional points, or singularities in the scattering data. In this work, absence of exceptional points is proved at zero energy for evolutions with compactly supported, smooth and rotationally symmetric initial data of the conductiv…
We study numerically the evolution of perturbed Korteweg-de Vries solitons and of well localized initial data by the Novikov-Veselov (NV) equation at different levels of the "energy" parameter $ E $. We show that as $ |E| \to \infty $, NV behaves, as expected, similarly to its formal limit, the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. However at intermediate regimes, i.e. when $ | E | $ is not very large, more varied scenarios are possible, in particular, blow-ups are observed. The mechanism of the blow-up is studied.
We construct finite-gap solutions to the modified Novikov-Veselov equations, describe their spectral properties and the reduction to the modified Korteweg--de Vries equation and explain its relation to soliton deformations of tori and the Willmore conjecture.
Because of its relevance to lower-dimensional conformal geometry, known as a generalized Weierstrass inducing, the modified Veselov-Novikov (mVN) hierarchy attracts renewed interest recently. It has been shown explicitly in the literature that an extrinsic string action à la Polyakov (Willmore functional) is invariant under deformations associated to the first member of the mVN hierarchy. In this note we go one step further and show the explicit invariance of the functional under deformations associated to all higher members of the hierarchy.
The Novikov-Veselov (NV) equation is a dispersive (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear evolution equation that generalizes the (1+1)-dimensional Korteweg-deVries (KdV) equation. This paper considers the stability of plane wave soliton solutions of the NV equation to transverse perturbations. To investigate the behavior of the perturbations, a hybrid semi-implicit/spectral numerical scheme was developed, applicable to other nonlinear PDE systems. Numerical simulations of the evolution of transversely perturbed plane wave solutions are presented. In particular, it is established that plane wave soliton s…
We investigate the generalized (2 + 1) Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov equation and construct its linear eigenvalue problem in the coordinate space from the results of singularity structure analysis thereby dispelling the notion of weak Lax pair. We then exploit the Lax-pair employing Darboux transformation and generate lumps and rogue waves. The dynamics of lumps and rogue waves is then investigated.
We associate a periodic two-dimensional Schrodinger operator to every Lagrangian torus in CP^2 and define the spectral curve of a torus as the Floquet spectrum of this operator on the zero energy level. In this event minimal Lagrangian tori correspond to potential operators. We show that Novikov-Veselov hierarchy of equations induces integrable deformations of minimal Lagrangian torus in CP^2 preserving the spectral curve. We also show that the highest flows on the space of smooth periodic solutions of the Tzizeica equation are given by the Novikov-Veselov hierarchy.
Using the reality condition of the solutions, one constructs the real Pfaffian N-solitons solutions of the Novikov-Veselov (NV) equation using the $\tan$ function and the Schur identity. By the minor-summation formula of the Pfaffian, we can study the interactions of solitons in the Novikov-Veselov equation from the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation's point of view, that is, the totally non-negative Grassmannian. Especially, the Y-shape resonance, O-type and the P-type interactions of X-shape are investigated. Also, the maximum amplitude of the intersection of the line solitons and the crit…
The (2+1)-dimensional generalized Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov equations (GNNVEs) are investigated in order to search the influence of initial solution to exact solutions. The GNNVEs are converted into the combined equations of differently two bilinear forms by means of the homogeneous balance of undetermined coefficients method. Accordingly, the two class of exact N-soliton solutions and three wave solutions are obtained respectively by using the Hirota direct method combined with the simplified version of Hereman and the three wave method. The proposed method is also a standard and computable met…
We show that Novikov-Veselov hierarchy provides a complete family of commuting symmetries of two-dimensional $O(N)$ sigma model. In the first part of the paper we use these symmetries to prove that the Fermi spectral curve for the double-periodic sigma model is algebraic. Thus, our previous construction of the complexified harmonic maps in the case of irreducible Fermi curves is complete. In the second part of the paper we generalize our construction to the case of reducible Fermi curves and show that it gives the conformal harmonic maps to even-dimensional spheres. Remarkably, the solutions a…
We construct a hierarchy of pairwise commuting flows $d/dt_{i,n}$ indexed by $i \in \{1,2 \}$ and $n \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}$ on triples $(\mathcal{L}_1, \mathcal{L}_2, \mathcal{H})$ where $\partial_1$ and $\partial_2$ are two commuting derivations, $\partial_i \mathcal{L}_i$ is a self-adjoint pseudodifferential operator in $\partial_i$ and $\mathcal{H}$ is the formal Schrödinger operator $\mathcal{H}=\partial_1 \partial_2 +u$. $\mathcal{L}_1, \mathcal{L}_2$ and $\mathcal{H}$ are coupled by the relations $\mathcal{H} \mathcal{L}_i+\mathcal{L}_i^* \mathcal{H}=0$. We show that the flows $d/dt_{1…
New manifestly gauge-invariant forms of two-dimensional generalized dispersive long-wave and Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov systems of integrable nonlinear equations are presented. It is shown how in different gauges from such forms famous two-dimensional generalization of dispersive long-wave system of equations, Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov and modified Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov equations and other known and new integrable nonlinear equations arise. Miura-type transformations between nonlinear equations in different gauges are considered.
We obtain new gauge-invariant forms of two-dimensional integrable systems of nonlinear equations: the Sawada-Kotera and Kaup-Kuperschmidt system, the generalized system of dispersive long waves, and the Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov system. We show how these forms imply both new and well-known two-dimensional integrable nonlinear equations: the Sawada-Kotera equation, Kaup-Kuperschmidt equation, dispersive long-wave system, Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov equation, and modified Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov equation. We consider Miura-type transformations between nonlinear equations in different gauges.
In this article we show that the large time asymptotics for the Grinevich-Zakharov rational solutions of the Novikov-Veselov equation at positive energy (an analog of KdV in 2+1 dimensions) is given by a finite sum of localized travel waves (solitons).
We consider the Cauchy problem for the two-dimensional Novikov-Veselov equation integrable via the inverse scattering problem for the Schrödinger operator with fixed negative energy. The associated linear equation is characterized by a rational symbol which is not a polynomial, except when the energy parameter is zero. With the help of a complex analysis point of view of the problem, we establish uniform decay estimates for the linear solution with gain of almost one derivative, and we use this result together with Fourier decomposition methods and $X^{s,b}$ spaces to prove local well-posednes…
By using the Moutard transformation of two-dimensional Schroedinger operators we derive a procedure for constructing explicit examples of such operators with rational fast decaying potentials and degenerate $L_2$-kernels (this construction was sketched in arXiv:0706.3595) and show that if we take some of these potentials as the Cauchy data for the Novikov-Veselov equation (a two-dimensional version of the Korteweg-de Vries equation), then the corresponding solutions blow up in a finite time
We develop the Riemann-Hilbert problem approach to inverse scattering for the two-dimensional Schrodinger equation at fixed energy. We obtain global or generic versions of the key results of this approach for the case of positive energy and compactly supported potentials. In particular, we do not assume that the potential is small or that Faddeev scattering solutions do not have singularities (i.e. we allow the Faddeev exceptional points to exist). Applications of these results to the Novikov-Veselov equation are also considered.
In this paper we continue our study on the Cauchy problem for the two-dimensional Novikov-Veselov (NV) equation, integrable via the inverse scattering transform for the two dimensional Schrödinger operator at a fixed energy parameter. This work is concerned with the case of positive energy. For the solution of the linearized equation we derive smoothing and Strichartz estimates by combining two different frequency regimes. At non-low frequencies we also derive improved smoothing estimates with gain of almost one derivative. We combine the linear estimates with the Fourier decomposition method …
