We study the representation theory of the invariant subalgebra of the Weyl algebra under a torus action, which we call a "hypertoric enveloping algebra." We define an analogue of BGG category O for this algebra, and identify it with a certain category of sheaves on a hypertoric variety. We prove that a regular block of this category is highest weight and Koszul, identify its Koszul dual, compute its center, and study its cell structure. We also consider a collection of derived auto-equivalences analogous to the shuffling and twisting functors for BGG category O.
Motivated by the polynomial representation theory of the general linear group and the theory of symplectic singularities, we study a category of perverse sheaves with coefficients in a field $k$ on any affine unimodular hypertoric variety. Our main result is that this is a highest weight category whose Ringel dual is the corresponding category for the Gale dual hypertoric variety. On the way to proving our main result, we confirm a conjecture of Finkelberg-Kubrak in the case of hypertoric varieties. We also show that our category is equivalent to representations of a combinatorially-defined al…
We give an introduction to the $\mathbb{Z}$-graded representation theory of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of a complex semisimple Lie algebras, with an emphasis on Soergel's combinatorial $\mathbb{V}$ functor, definitions of $\mathbb{Z}$-graded duality functors and definitions of $\mathbb{Z}$-graded translation functors.
We determine the Verma multiplicities of standard filtrations of projective modules for integral atypical blocks in the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ for the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{osp}(3|4)$ by way of translation functors. We then explicitly determine the composition factor multiplicities of Verma modules using BGG reciprocity.
Using translation from the regular block, we construct and analyze properties of BGG complexes in singular blocks of BGG category ${\mathcal{O}}$. We provide criteria, in terms of the Kazhdan-Lusztig-Vogan polynomials, for such complexes to be exact. In the Koszul dual picture, exactness of BGG complexes is expressed as a certain condition on a generalized Verma flag of an indecomposable projective object in the corresponding block of parabolic category ${\mathcal{O}}$. In the second part of the paper, we construct BGG complexes in a more general setting of balanced quasi-hereditary algebras a…
We classify all equivalences between the indecomposable abelian categories which appear as blocks in BGG category O for reductive Lie algebras. Our classification implies that a block in category O only depends on the Bruhat order of the relevant parabolic quotient of the Weyl group. As part of the proof, we observe that any finite dimensional algebra with simple preserving duality admits at most one quasi-hereditary structure.
We determine the Verma multiplicities and the characters of projective modules for atypical blocks in the BGG Category O for the general linear Lie superalgebras $\frak{gl}(2|2)$ and $\frak{gl}(3|1)$. We then explicitly determine the composition factor multiplcities of Verma modules in the atypicality 2 block of $\frak{gl}(2|2)$.
We consider q-deformations of multiplicative hypertoric varieties, for q a non-zero element of an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. We construct an algebra Dq of q-difference operators as a Heisenberg double in a braided monoidal category. We then focus on the case where q is specialized to a root of unity. In this setting, we use Dq to construct an Azumaya algebra on an l-twist of the multiplicative hypertoric variety, before showing that this algebra splits over the fibers of both the moment and resolution maps. Finally, we sketch a derived localization theorem for these Azumay…
A Lie algebra is said to be generalised reductive if it is a direct sum of a semisimple Lie algebra and a commutative radical. In this paper we extend the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ over complex semisimple Lie algebras to the category $\mathcal {O'}$ over complex generalised reductive Lie algebras. Then we make a preliminary research on the highest weight modules and the projective modules in this new category $\mathcal {O'}$, and generalize some conclusions in the classical case. As a critical difference from the complex semisimple Lie algebra case, we prove that there is no projective module…
In this paper, we study the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ for the quantum Schr{ö}dinger algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{s})$, where $q$ is a nonzero complex number which is not a root of unity. If the central charge $\dot z\neq 0$, using the module $B_{\dot z}$ over the quantum Weyl algebra $H_q$, we show that there is an equivalence between the full subcategory $\mathcal{O}[\dot z]$ consisting of modules with the central charge $\dot z$ and the BGG category $\mathcal{O}^{(\mathfrak{sl}_2)}$ for the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. In the case that $\dot z=0$, we study the subcategory $\mathcal{A}$ c…
We study a version of the BGG category O for Dynkin Borel subalgebras of root-reductive Lie algebras g, such as gl(\infty). We prove results about extension fullness and compute the higher extensions of simple modules by Verma modules. In addition, we show that our category O is Ringel self-dual and initiate the study of Koszul duality. An important tool in obtaining these results is an equivalence we establish between appropriate Serre subquotients of category O for g and category O for finite dimensional reductive subalgebras of g.
We study the category of graded representations with finite--dimensional graded pieces for the current algebra associated to a simple Lie algebra. This category has many similarities with the category $\cal O$ of modules for $\lie g$ and in this paper, we use the combinatorics of Macdonald polynomials to prove an analogue of the famous BGG duality in the case of $\lie{sl}_{n+1}$.
In this paper we give a sum formula for the radical filtration of generalized Verma modules in any (possibly singular) blocks of parabolic BGG category which can be viewed as a generalization of Jantzen sum formula for Verma modules in the usual BGG category $\mathcal{O}$. Combined with Jantzen coefficients, we determine the radical filtrations for all basic generalized Verma modules. The proof makes use of the graded version of parabolic BGG category. Explicit formulae for the graded decomposition numbers and inverse graded decomposition numbers of generalized Verma modules in any (possibly s…
It was conjectured by Bennett, Chari, and Manning that a BGG-type reciprocity holds for the category of graded representations with finite-dimensional graded components for the current algebra associated to a simple Lie algebra. We associate a current algebra to any indecomposable affine Lie algebra and show that, in this generality, the BGG reciprocity is true for the corresponding category of representations.
We introduce a general axiomatic framework for algebras with triangular decomposition, which allows for a systematic study of the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand Category $\mathcal{O}$. The framework is stated via three relatively simple axioms; algebras satisfying them are termed "regular triangular algebras (RTAs)". These encompass a large class of algebras in the literature, including (a) generalized Weyl algebras, (b) symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}$, (c) quantum groups $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ over "lattices with possible torsion", (d) infinitesimal Hecke algebras, (e) higher rank…
This article aims to contribute to the study of algebras with triangular decomposition over a Hopf algebra, as well as the BGG Category O. We study functorial properties of O across various setups. The first setup is over a skew group ring, involving a finite group $Γ$ acting on a regular triangular algebra $A$. We develop Clifford theory for $A \rtimes Γ$, and obtain results on block decomposition, complete reducibility, and enough projectives. O is shown to be a highest weight category when $A$ satisfies one of the "Conditions (S)"; the BGG Reciprocity formula is slightly different because t…
The main goal of this paper is to show that a wide variety of infinite-dimensional algebras all share a common structure, including a triangular decomposition and a theory of weights. This structure allows us to define and study the BGG Category O, generalizing previous definitions of it. Having presented our axiomatic framework, we present sufficient conditions that guarantee finite length, enough projectives, and a block decomposition into highest weight categories. The framework is strictly more general than the usual theory of O; this is needed to accommodate (quantized or higher rank) inf…
We study the truncation functors and show the existence of projective cover of each irreducible module in parabolic BGG category $\mathcal O$ over infinite rank Lie algebra of types $\mathfrak{a,b,c,d}$. Moreover, $\mathcal O$ is a Koszul category. As a consequence, the corresponding parabolic BGG category $\overline{\mathcal O}$ over infinite rank Lie superalgebra of types $\mathfrak{a,b,c,d}$ through the super duality is also a Koszul category.
We study category $\mathcal{O}$ for Takiff Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g} \otimes \mathbb{C}[ε]/(ε^2)$ where $\mathfrak{g}$ is the Lie algebra of a reductive algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$. We decompose this category as a direct sum of certain subcategories and use an analogue of parabolic induction functors and twisting functors for BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ to prove equivalences between these subcategories. We then use these equivalences to compute the composition multiplicities of the simple modules in the Verma modules in terms of composition multiplicities in the BGG category $\mathcal{O}…
We study the category $\cal I_{\gr}$ of graded representations with finite--dimensional graded pieces for the current algebra $\lie g\otimes\bc[t]$ where $\lie g$ is a simple Lie algebra. This category has many similarities with the category $\cal O$ of modules for $\lie g$ and in this paper, we formulate and study an analogue of the famous BGG duality. We recall the definition of the projective and simple objects in $\cal I_{\gr}$ which are indexed by dominant integral weights. The role of the Verma modules is played by a family of modules called the global Weyl modules. We show that in the c…
We develop a reduction procedure which provides an equivalence from an arbitrary block of the BGG category for the queer Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{q}(n)$ to a "$\mathbb{Z}\pm s$-weights" ($s\in \mathbb{C}$) block of a BGG category for finite direct sum of queer Lie superalgebras. We give descriptions of blocks. We also establish equivalences between certain maximal parabolic subcategories for $\mathfrak{q}(n)$ and blocks of atypicality-one of the category of finite-dimensional modules for $\mathfrak{gl}(\ell|n-\ell)$.
The rank $n$ symplectic oscillator Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_n$ is the semidirect product of the symplectic Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$ and the Heisenberg Lie algebra $H_n$. In this paper, we study weight modules with finite dimensional weight spaces over $\mathfrak{g}_n$. When $\dot z\neq 0$, it is shown that there is an equivalence between the full subcategory $\mathcal{O}_{\mathfrak{g}_n}[\dot z]$ of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}_{\mathfrak{g}_n}$ for $\mathfrak{g}_n$ and the BGG category $\mathcal{O}_{\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}}$ for $\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$. Then using the technique of localizat…
Given a reductive Lie algebra over the complex numbers, we introduce a family of category which generalises the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$. We also classify the simple modules for some of these categories and prove a semisimplicity result.
We re-examine some topics in representation theory of Lie algebras and Springer theory in a more general context, viewing the universal enveloping algebra as an example of the section ring of a quantization of a conical symplectic resolution. While some modification from this classical context is necessary, many familiar features survive. These include a version of the Beilinson-Bernstein localization theorem, a theory of Harish-Chandra bimodules and their relationship to convolution operators on cohomology, and a discrete group action on the derived category of representations, generalizing t…
The restricted category O at the critical level over an affine Kac-Moody algebra is a certain subcategory of the ordinary BGG-category O. We study a deformed version introduced by Arakawa and Fiebig and calculate the center of the deformed restricted category O.
We study the family of derived auto-equivalences of the BGG-category O that correspond to the action of the standard generators of the Hecke algebra. Both the non-graded and graded situations are considered.
Let K be a locally compact nonarchimedean field, g a split reductive Lie algebra over K and U(g) its universal enveloping algebra. We study the category C_g of coadmissible modules over the nonarchimedean Arens-Michael envelope of U(g). Let p be a parabolic subalgebra of g. The main result identifies a certain explicitly given highest weight category inside C_g with the classical parabolic BGG category of g relative to p. This paper is in final form, replaces and expands the former preprint 'BGG reciprocity for p-adic Arens-Michael envelopes of semisimple Lie algebras' and appears in Journal o…
We define and study category $\mathcal O$ for a symplectic resolution, generalizing the classical BGG category $\mathcal O$, which is associated with the Springer resolution. This includes the development of intrinsic properties parallelling the BGG case, such as a highest weight structure and analogues of twisting and shuffling functors, along with an extensive discussion of individual examples. We observe that category $\mathcal O$ is often Koszul, and its Koszul dual is often equivalent to category $\mathcal O$ for a different symplectic resolution. This leads us to define the notion of a s…
We use the category of linear complexes of tilting modules for the BGG category O, associated with a semi-simple complex finite-dimensional Lie algebra g, to reprove in purely algebraic way several known results about O obtained earlier by different authors using geometric methods. We also obtain several new results about the parabolic category O.
We reformulate the Kazhdan-Lusztig theory for the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of Lie algebras of type D via the theory of canonical bases arising from quantum symmetric pairs initiated by Weiqiang Wang and the author. This is further applied to formulate and establish for the first time the Kazhdan-Lusztig theory for the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(2m|2n)$.
The BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ and its generalization $\mathcal{O}^\mathfrak{p}$ play essential roles in representation theory and have led to far-reaching work. Some elementary problems remain open for several decades, such as the block decomposition of category $\mathcal{O}^\mathfrak{p}$. In this paper, we solve the problem of blocks by applying the theory of Jantzen coefficients.
We apply the super duality formalism recently developed by the authors to obtain new equivalences of various module categories of general linear Lie superalgebras. We establish the correspondence of standard, tilting, and simple modules, as well as the identification of the u-homology groups, under these category equivalences. As an application, we obtain a complete solution of the irreducible character problem for some new parabolic BGG categories of gl(m|n)-modules, including the full BGG category of gl(m|2)-modules, in terms of type A Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.
For a stratified topological space we introduce the category of IC-modules, which are linear algebra devices with the relations described by the equation d^2=0. We prove that the category of (mixed) IC-modules is equivalent to the category of (mixed) perverse sheaves for flag varieties. As an application, we describe an algorithm calculating the quiver underlying the BGG category O for arbitrary simple Lie algebra, thus answering a question which goes back to I. M. Gelfand.
In this paper we study of the BGG-categories $\mathcal O_q$ associated to quantum groups. We prove that many properties of the ordinary BGG-category $\mathcal O$ for a semisimple complex Lie algebra carry over to the quantum case. Of particular interest is the case when $q$ is a complex root of unity. Here we prove a tensor decomposition for both simple modules, projective modules, and indecomposable tilting modules. Using the known Kazhdan-Lusztig conjectures for $\mathcal O$ and for finite dimensional $U_q$-modules we are able to determine all irreducible characters as well as the characters…
We define and investigate a class of Koszul quasi-hereditary algebras for which there is a natural equivalence between the bounded derived category of graded modules and the bounded derived category of graded modules over (a proper version of) the extension algebra of standard modules. Examples of such algebras include, in particular, the multiplicity free blocks of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$, and some quasi-hereditary algebras with Cartan decomposition in the sense of K{ö}nig.
The aim of this paper is to introduce the categorical setup which helps us to relate the theory of Macdonald polynomials and the theory of Weyl modules for current Lie algebras discovered by V.\,Chari and collaborators. We identify Macdonald pairing with the homological pairing on the ring of characters of the Lie algebra of currents $\mathbf{g}\otimes\mathbb{C}[x,ξ]$. We use this description in order to define complexes of modules whose Euler characteristic of characters coincide with Macdonald polynomials. We generalize this result to the case of graded Lie algebras with anti-involution. We …
We study the structural and homological properties of graded Artinian modules over generalized Weyl algebras (GWAs), and this leads to a decomposition result for the category of graded Artinian modules. Then we define and examine a category of graded modules analogous to the BGG category O. We discover a condition on the data defining the GWA that ensures O has a system of projective generators. Under this condition, O has nice representation-theoretic properties. There is also a decomposition result for O. Next, we give a necessary condition for there to be a strongly graded Morita equivalenc…
We establish character formulae for representations of the one-parameter family of simple Lie superalgebras $D(2|1;ζ)$. We provide a complete description of the Verma flag multiplicities of the tilting modules and the projective modules in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of $D(2|1;ζ)$-modules of integral weights, for any complex parameter $ζ$. The composition factors of all Verma modules in $\mathcal O$ are then obtained.
We study the algebra of regular functions on the big cell of the Gauss decomposition of a simple complex Lie group G. We prove that it is spanned by the matrix elements of big projective modules in the BGG category O, and admits a decomposition of Peter-Weyl type. The subspace of Whittaker vectors in the regular representation on the big cell gives a realization of the big projective modules in O, similar to the Borel-Weil theorem. These results can be extended to the quantum groups.
We investigate blocks of the Category $\mathcal O$ for the Virasoro algebra over the complex numbers. We demonstrate that the blocks have Kazhdan-Lusztig theories, and that the truncated blocks give rise to interesting Koszul algebras. The simple modules have BGG resolutions, and from this we compute the extensions between Verma modules and simple modules, and between pairs of simple modules.
We analyze the BGG Category $\mathcal{O}$ over a large class of generalized Weyl algebras (henceforth termed GWAs). Given such a "triangular" GWA for which Category $\mathcal{O}$ decomposes into a direct sum of subcategories, we study in detail the homological properties of blocks with finitely many simples. As consequences, we show that the endomorphism algebra of a projective generator of such a block is quasi-hereditary, finite-dimensional, and graded Koszul. We also classify all tilting modules in the block, as well as all submodules of all projective and tilting modules. Finally, we prese…
We study blocks of category O for the Cherednik algebra having the property that every irreducible module in the block admits a BGG resolution, and as a consequence prove a character formula conjectured by Oblomkov-Yun.
We show that for any singular dominant integral weight $λ$ of a complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, the endomorphism algebra $B$ of any projective-injective module of the parabolic BGG category $\mathcal{O}_λ^{\mathfrak{p}}$ is a symmetric algebra (as conjectured by Khovanov) extending the results of Mazorchuk and Stroppel for the regular dominant integral weight. Moreover, the endomorphism algebra $B$ is equipped with a homogeneous (non-degenerate) symmetrizing form. In the appendix, there is a short proof due to K. Coulembier and V. Mazorchuk showing that the endomorphism algebra …
We study the characters of simple modules in the parabolic BGG category of the affine Lie algebra in Deligne's category. More specifically, we take the limit of Weyl-Kac formula to compute the character of the irreducible quotient $L(X,k)$ of the parabolic Verma module $M(X,k)$ of level $k$, where $X$ is an indecomposable object of Deligne's category $\underline{\mathrm{Rep}}(GL_t)$, $\underline{\mathrm{Rep}}(O_t)$, or $\underline{\mathrm{Rep}}(Sp_t)$, under conditions that the highest weight of $X$ plus the level gives a fundamental weight, $t$ is transcendental, and the base field $\Bbbk$ ha…
We propose a new definition of Koszulity for graded algebras where the degree zero part has finite global dimension, but is not necessarily semi-simple. The standard Koszul duality theorems hold in this setting. We give an application to algebras arising from multiplicity free blocks of the BGG category $\mathcal O$.
We discuss the representation theory of $H_f$, which is a deformation of the symplectic oscillator algebra $sp(2n) \ltimes h_n$, where $h_n$ is the ((2n+1)-dimensional) Heisenberg algebra. We first look at a more general setup, involving an algebra with a triangular decomposition. Assuming the PBW theorem, and one other hypothesis, we show that the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ is abelian, finite length, and self-dual. We decompose $\mathcal{O}$ as a direct sum of blocks $\calo(\la)$, and show that each block is a highest weight category. In the second part, we focus on the case $H_f$ for $n=1$, …
Given an affine hyperplane arrangement with some additional structure, we define two finite-dimensional, noncommutative algebras, both of which are motivated by the geometry of hypertoric varieties. We show that these algebras are Koszul dual to each other, and that the roles of the two algebras are reversed by Gale duality. We also study the centers and representation categories of our algebras, which are in many ways analogous to integral blocks of category O.
We describe how certain cyclotomic Nazarov-Wenzl algebras occur as endomorphism rings of projective modules in a parabolic version of BGG category O of type $D$. Furthermore we study a family of subalgebras of these endomorphism rings which exhibit similar behaviour to the family of Brauer algebras even when they are not semisimple. The translation functors on this parabolic category O are studied and proven to yield a categorification of a coideal subalgebra of the general linear Lie algebra. Finally this is put into the context of categorifying skew Howe duality for these subalgebras.
