Consider the mass-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equations in both focusing and defocusing cases for initial data in $L^2$ in space dimension N. By Strichartz inequality, solutions to the corresponding linear problem belong to a global $L^p$ space in the time and space variables, where $p=2+4/N$. In 1D and 2D, the best constant for the Strichartz inequality was computed by D.~Foschi who has also shown that the maximizers are the solutions with Gaussian initial data.
Solutions to the nonlinear problem with small initial data in $L^2$ are globally defined and belong to the same global $L^p$ space. In this work we show that the maximum of the $L^p$ norm is attained for a given small mass. In addition, in 1D and 2D, we show that the maximizer is unique and obtain a precise estimate of the maximum. In order to prove this we show that the maximum for the linear problem in 1D and 2D is nondegenerated.
In this paper, we first show that there exists a maximizer for the non-endpoint Strichartz inequalities for the Schrödinger equation in all dimensions based on the recent linear profile decomposition results. We then present a new proof of the linear profile decomposition for the Schröindger equation with initial data in the homogeneous Sobolev space; as a consequence, there exists a maximizer for the Sobolev-Strichartz inequality.
We prove the existence of maximizers of Sobolev-Strichartz estimates for a general class of propagators, involving relevant examples, as for instance the wave, Dirac and the hyperbolic Schrodinger flows.
We study the existence of maximizers for a one-parameter family of Strichartz inequalities on the torus. In general maximizing sequences can fail to be precompact in $L^2(\mathbb T)$, and maximizers can fail to exist. We provide a sufficient condition for precompactness of maximizing sequences (after translation in Fourier space), and verify the existence of maximizers for a range of values of the parameter. Maximizers for the Strichartz inequalities correspond to stable, periodic (in space and time) solutions of a model equation for optical pulses in a dispersion-managed fiber.
We compute explicitely the best constants and, by solving some functional equations, we find all maximizers for homogeneous Strichartz estimates for the Schrodinger equation and for the wave equation in the cases when the Lebesgue exponent is an even integer.
We prove the existence of maximizers for Strichartz inequalities for the wave equation in dimensions $d\geq 3$. Our approach follows the scheme given by Shao, which obtains the existence of maximizers in the context of the Schrödinger equation. The main tool that we use is the linear profile decomposition for the wave equation which we prove in $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 3$, extending the profile decomposition result of Bahouri and Gerard, previously obtained in $\mathbb{R}^3$.
This work is devoted to prove a linear profile decomposition for the Airy equation in $\dot{H}_x^{s_k}(\mathbb{R})$, where $s_k=(k-4)/2k$ and $k>4$. We also apply this decomposition to establish the existence of maximizers for a general class of Strichartz type inequalities associated to the Airy equation.
In this paper, we establish the linear profile decomposition for the Airy equation with complex or real initial data in $L^2$, respectively. As an application, we obtain a dichotomy result on the existence of maximizers for the symmetric Airy-Strichartz inequality.
In this paper, we establish bilinear and gradient bilinear Strichartz estimates for Schrödinger operators in 2 dimensional compact manifolds with boundary. Using these estimates, we can infer the local well-posedness of cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $H^s$ for every $s>{2/3}$ on such manifolds.
We establish inhomogeneous Strichartz Estimates for the Schr{ö}dinger equation with singular and time dependent potentials for non-admissible pairs. Our work extends the results provided by Vilela [23] and Foschi [6] where they proved the results in the absence of potential. It also extends the works of Pierfelice [20] and Burq, Planchon, Stalker, Tahvildar-Zadeh [3], who proved the estimates for admissible pairs. We also extend the recent work of Mizutani, Zhang, Zheng [17] and as an application of it, we improve the stability result of Kenig-Merle [13], which in turn establishes a proof (alt…
We prove global wellposedness in the energy space of the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schroedinger and Gross-Pitaevskii equations on the exterior of a non-trapping domain in dimension 3. The main ingredient is a Strichartz estimate obtained combining a semi-classical Strichartz estimate with a smoothing effect on exterior domains.
We consider the energy critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation on generic irrational tori. Using the long-time Strichartz estimates proved in [8], we establish polynomial upper bounds for higher Sobolev norms for solutions with small energy.
We prove polynomial bounds on the growth of higher Sobolev norms for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation set on a torus, in dimension 3, with super-cubic and sub-quintic nonlinearity. Due to improved Strichartz estimates, these bounds are better for irrational tori than they are for rational tori.
We consider asymptotic stability of a small solitary wave to supercritical 1-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equations $$ iu_t+u_{xx}=Vu\pm |u|^{p-1}u \quad\text{for $(x,t)\in\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}$,}$$ in the energy class. This problem was studied by Gustafson-Nakanishi-Tsai \cite{GNT} in the 3-dimensional case using the endpoint Strichartz estimate. To prove asymptotic stability of solitary waves, we need to show that a dispersive part $v(t,x)$ of a solution belongs to $L^2_t(0,\infty;X)$ for some space $X$. In the 1-dimensional case, this property does not follow from the Strichartz e…
In this article, we study long time dynamics for defocusing cubic NLS on three dimensional product space. First, we apply the decoupling method in Bourgain-Demeter \cite{BD} to establish a bilinear Strichartz estimate. Moreover, we prove global well-posedness for defocusing, cubic NLS on three dimensional product space with rough initial data ($H^s$, $s>\frac{5}{6}$) based on I-method and the bilinear estimate. At last, we discuss the growth of higher Sobolev norm problem which is tightly linked to the weak turbulence phenomenon.
We consider the NLS with variable coefficients in dimension $n\ge3$ \begin{equation*} i \partial_t u - Lu +f(u)=0, \qquad Lv=\nabla^{b}\cdot(a(x)\nabla^{b}v)-c(x)v, \qquad \nabla^{b}=\nabla+ib(x), \end{equation*} on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ or more generally on an exterior domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions, for a gauge invariant, defocusing nonlinearity of power type $f(u)\simeq|u|^{γ-1}u$. We assume that $L$ is a small, long range perturbation of $Δ$, plus a potential with a large positive part. The first main result of the paper is a bilinear smoothing (interaction Morawetz) estimate for the…
We consider a class of defocusing energy-supercritical nonlinear Schrödinger equations in four space dimensions. Following a concentration-compactness approach, we show that for $1<s_c<3/2$, any solution that remains bounded in the critical Sobolev space $\dot{H}_x^{s_c}(\R^4)$ must be global and scatter. Key ingredients in the proof include a long-time Strichartz estimate and a frequency-localized interaction Morawetz inequality.
In this article, we study the unconditional uniqueness of $\dot H^s$, $0<s< 1$, solutions for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_t u +Δu+ c |u|^αu=0$ in ${\mathbb R}^n$. We give a unified proof of the previously known results in the subcritical cases and critical cases, and we also extend these results to some previously unsettled cases. Our proof uses in particular negative order Sobolev spaces (or Besov spaces), general Strichartz estimates, and the improved regularity property for the difference of two solutions.
We study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with the quadratic nonlinearity $|u|^2$, posed on the two-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^2$. While the relevant $L^3$-Strichartz estimate is known only with a derivative loss, we prove local well-posedness of the quadratic NLS in $L^2(\mathbb{T}^2)$, thus resolving an open problem of thirty years since Bourgain (1993). In view of ill-posedness in negative Sobolev spaces, this result is sharp. We establish a crucial bilinear estimate by separately studying the non-resonant and nearly resonant cases. As a corollary, we obtain a tri-linear version …
We consider a randomization of a function on $\mathbb R^d$ that is naturally associated to the Wiener decomposition and, intrinsically, to the modulation spaces. Such randomized functions enjoy better integrability, thus allowing us to improve the Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger equation. As an example, we also show that the energy-critical cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb R^4$ is almost surely locally well-posed with respect to randomized initial data below the energy space.
Let $u:\R \times \R^n \to \C$ be the solution of the linear Schrödinger equation $iu_t + Δu =0$ with initial data $u(0,x) = f(x)$. In the first part of this paper we obtain a sharp inequality for the Strichartz norm $\|u(t,x)\|_{L^{2k}_tL^{2k}_x(\R \times\R^n)}$, where $k\in \Z$, $k \geq 2$ and $(n,k) \neq (1,2)$, that admits only Gaussian maximizers. As corollaries we obtain sharp forms of the classical Strichartz inequalities in low dimensions (works of Foschi and Hundertmark - Zharnitsky) and also sharp forms of some Sobolev-Strichartz inequalities. In the second part of the paper we expres…
We develop refined Strichartz estimates at $L^2$ regularity for a class of time-dependent Schrödinger operators. Such refinements begin to characterize the near-optimizers of the Strichartz estimate, and play a pivotal part in the global theory of mass-critical NLS. On one hand, the harmonic analysis is quite subtle in the $L^2$-critical setting due to an enormous group of symmetries, while on the other hand, the spacetime Fourier analysis employed by the existing approaches to the constant-coefficient equation are not adapted to nontranslation-invariant situations, especially with potentials …
The present paper is concerned with the large data scattering problem for the mass-energy double critical NLS \begin{align} i\partial_t u+Δu\pm |u|^{\frac{4}{d}}u\pm |u|^{\frac{4}{d-2}}u=0\tag{DCNLS} \end{align} in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$ with $d\geq 3$. In the defocusing-defocusing regime, Tao, Visan and Zhang show that the unique solution of DCNLS is global and scattering in time for arbitrary initial data in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$. This does not hold when at least one of the nonlinearities is focusing, due to the possible formation of blow-up and soliton solutions. However, precise thresholds for …
It was shown by the second author in (CPAA, 2019) for the biharmonic Schrödinger equation and most recently by Himonas and Mantzavinos (Nonlinearity, 2020) for 2D Schrödinger equation that Fokas method based formulas are capable of defining weak solutions of associated nonlinear initial boundary value problems (ibvps) below the Banach algebra threshold. In view of these results, we revisit the theory of interior-boundary Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger equation posed on the right half line, considering both Dirichlet and Neumann cases. Finally, we apply these estimates to obtain low r…
We consider the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$ i u_t +Δ^2 u+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0, $$ where $λ=\pm 1$ and $α$, $b>0$. In the subctritical case, we improve the global well-posedness result obtained in \cite{GUZPAS} for dimensions $N=5,6,7$ in the Sobolev space $H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$. The fundamental tools to establish our results are the standard Strichartz estimates related to the linear problem and the Hardy-Littlewood inequality. Results concerning the energy-critical case, that is, $α=\frac{8-2b}{N-4}$ are also reported. More precisely, we show well-posedness and a st…
We consider the mass critical NLS on $\mathbb{T}$ and $\mathbb{T}^2$. In the $\mathbb{R}^d$ case the Strichartz estimates enable us to show well-posedness of the IVP in $L^2$ (at least for small data) via the Picard iteration method. However, counterexamples to the $L^6$ Strichartz on $\mathbb{T}$ and the $L^4$ Strichartz on $\mathbb{T}^2$ were given by Bourgain (1993) and Takaoka-Tzvetkov (2001), respectively, which means that the Strichartz spaces are not suitable for iteration in these problems. In this note, we show a slightly stronger result, namely, that the IVP on $\mathbb{T}$ and $\mat…
We study the one dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with power nonlinearity $|u|^{α- 1} u$ for $α\in [1,5]$ and initial data $u_0 \in L^2(\mathbb{R}) + H^1(\mathbb{T})$. We show via Strichartz estimates that the Cauchy problem is locally well-posed. In the case of the quadratic nonlinearity ($α= 2$) we obtain global well-posedness in the space $C(\mathbb{R}, L^2(\mathbb R) + H^1(\mathbb T))$ via Gronwall's inequality.
The aim of this paper is to show the small data scattering for 2D ICQNLS: $$iu_t=-Δu + K_1(x)|u|^2u+K_2(x)|u|^4u.$$ Under the assumption that $\left| \partial^j K_l \right| \lesssim |x|^{b_l -j}$ for $j=0, 1, 2, l=1, 2$ and $0 \le b_l \le l - \frac23$, we prove the small data scattering in an angularly regular Sobolev space $H_θ^{1,1}$. We use the decaying property of angularly regular functions, which are defined as functions in Sobolev space $H_θ^{1, 1} \subset H^1$ with angular regularity such that $\|\partial_θf\|_{H^1} < \infty$, and also use the recently developed angularly averaged Stri…
We consider the 1D nonlinear Schrödinger equation with focusing point nonlinearity. "Point" means that the pure-power nonlinearity has an inhomogeneous potential and the potential is the delta function supported at the origin. This equation is used to model a Kerr-type medium with a narrow strip in the optic fibre. There are several mathematical studies on this equation and the local/global existence of solution, blow-up occurrence and blow-up profile have been investigated. In this paper we focus on the asymptotic behavior of the global solution, i.e, we show that the global solution scatters…
We prove that if $u(t)$ is a log-log blow-up solution, of the type studied by Merle-Raphaël (2001-2005), to the $L^2$ critical focusing NLS equation $i\partial_t u +Δu + |u|^{4/d} u=0$ with initial data $u_0\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$ in the cases $d=1, 2$, then $u(t)$ remains bounded in $H^1$ away from the blow-up point. This is obtained without assuming that the initial data $u_0$ has any regularity beyond $H^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$. As an application of the $d=1$ result, we construct an open subset of initial data in the radial energy space $H^1_{rad}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ with corresponding solutions that bl…
We consider the focusing mass-critical NLS $iu_t + Δu = - |u|^{4/d} u$ in high dimensions $d \geq 4$, with initial data $u(0) = u_0$ having finite mass $M(u_0) = \int_{\R^d} |u_0(x)|^2 dx < \infty$. It is well known that this problem admits unique (but not global) strong solutions in the Strichartz class $C^0_{t,\loc} L^2_x \cap L^2_{t,\loc} L^{2d/(d-2)}_x$, and also admits global (but not unique) weak solutions in $L^\infty_t L^2_x$. In this paper we introduce an intermediate class of solution, which we call a \emph{semi-Strichartz class solution}, for which one does have global existence and…
We prove the global space-time bound for the mass critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation perturbed by a small multiplicative noise in dimension three. The associated scattering behavior are also obtained. We also prove a global Strichartz space-time bound for the linear stochastic model, which is new itself and serves a prototype model for the nonlinear case. The proof combines techniques from \cite{fan2018global}, \cite{fan2020long} as well as local smoothing estimates for linear Schrödinger operators.

We consider the cubic Schrödinger equation on the euclidean space perturbed by a short-range potential $V$. The presence of a negative simple eigenvalue for $-Δ+V$ gives rise to a curve of small and localized nonlinear ground states that yield some time-periodic solutions known to be asymptotically stable in the energy space. We study the persistence of these coherent states under rough perturbations. We shall construct a large measure set of small scaling-supercritical solutions below the energy space that display some asymptotic stability behavior. The main difficulty is the need to handle t…
We prove asymptotic completeness in the energy space for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation posed on hyperbolic space in the radial case, in space dimension at least 4, and for any energy-subcritical, defocusing, power nonlinearity. The proof is based on simple Morawetz estimates and weighted Strichartz estimates. We investigate the same question on spaces which kind of interpolate between Euclidean space and hyperbolic space, showing that the family of short range nonlinearities becomes larger and larger as the space approaches the hyperbolic space. Finally, we describe the large time behavio…
We prove dynamical dichotomy into scattering and blow-up (in a weak sense) for all radial solutions of the Zakharov system in the energy space of four spatial dimensions that have less energy than the ground state, which is written using the Aubin-Talenti function. The dichotomy is characterized by the critical mass of the wave component of the ground state. The result is similar to that by Kenig and Merle for the energy-critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS). Unlike NLS, however, the most difficult interaction in the proof stems from the free wave component. In order to control it, the…
We consider the Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger (IBNLS) equation \[iu_{t} +Δ^{2} u=λ|x|^{-b}|u|^σu,\;u(0)=u_{0} \in H^{s} (\mathbb R^{d}),\] where $λ\in \mathbb R$, $d\in \mathbb N$, $0\le s<\min\left\{2+\frac{d}{2},d\right\}$, $0<b<\min \left\{4,\; d-s,\; 2+\frac{d}{2}-s \right\}$ and $0<σ\le σ_{c}(s)$ with $σ<\infty$. Here $σ_{c}(s)=\frac{8-2b}{d-2s}$ if $s<\frac{d}{2}$, and $σ_{c}(s)=\infty$ if $s\ge \frac{d}{2}$. First, we give some remarks on Sobolev-Lorentz spaces and extend the chain rule under Lorentz norms for the fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^{s/2}$…
We study Gibbs measures invariant under the flow of the NLS on the unit disc of $\R^2$. For that purpose, we construct the dynamics on a phase space of limited Sobolev regularity and a wighted Wiener measure invariant by the NLS flow. The density of the measure is integrable with respect to the Wiener measure for sub cubic nonlinear interactions. The existence of the dynamics is obtained in Bourgain spaces of low regularity. The key ingredient are bilinear Strichartz estimates for the free evolution. The bilinear effect in our analysis results from simple properties of the Bessel functions and…
