In a Riemannian manifold a regular convex domain is said to be $λ$-convex if its normal curvature at each point is greater than or equal to $λ$. In a Hadamard manifold, the asymptotic behaviour of the quotient $\vol(Ω(t))/\vol(\partialΩ(t))$ for a family of $λ$-convex domains $Ω(t)$ expanding over the whole space has been studied and general bounds for this quotient are known. In this paper we improve this general result in the complex hyperbolic space $\CH$, a Hadamard manifold with constant holomorphic curvature equal to $-4k^2$. Furthermore, we give some specific properties of convex domains in $\CH$ and we prove that $λ$-convex domains of arbitrary radius exists if $λ\leq k$.
On a flat plane, convexity of a set is preserved by both radial expansion and contraction of the set about any point inside it. Using the Poincaré disk model of hyperbolic geometry, we prove that radial expansion of a hyperbolic convex set about a point inside it always preserves hyperbolic convexity. Using stereographic projection of a sphere, we prove that radial contraction of a spherical convex set about a point inside it, such that the initial set is contained in the closed hemisphere centred at that point, always preserves spherical convexity.
In an earlier paper we showed that the radial expansion of a hyperbolic convex set in the Poincaré disk about any point inside it results in a hyperbolic convex set. In this work, we generalize this result by showing that the asymmetric expansion of a hyperbolic convex set about any point inside it also results in a hyperbolic convex set.
The Hessian of the renormalized volume of geometrically finite hyperbolic $3$-manifolds without rank-$1$ cusps, computed at the hyperbolic metric $g$ with totally geodesic boundary of the convex core, is shown to be a strictly positive bilinear form on the tangent space to Teichmüller space. The metric $g$ is known from results of Bonahon and Storm to be an absolute minimum for the volume of the convex core. We deduce the strict convexity of the functional volume of the convex core at its minimum point.
We prove that the static convexity is preserved along two kinds of locally constrained curvature flows in hyperbolic space. Using the static convexity of the flow hypersurfaces, we prove new family of geometric inequalities for such hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space.

We study the critical points of the renormalized volume for acylindrical geometrically finite hyperbolic 3-manifolds that include rank-1 cusps, and show that the renormalized volume is locally convex around these critical points. We give a modified definition of the renormalized volume that is additive under gluing, and study some local properties.
Convexity properties of Weil-Petersson geodesics on the Teichmüller space of punctured Riemann surfaces are investigated. A normal form is presented for the Weil-Petersson Levi-Civita connection for pinched hyperbolic metrics. The normal form is used to establish approximation of geodesics in boundary spaces. Considerations are combined to establish convexity along Weil-Petersson geodesics of the functions the distance between horocycles for a hyperbolic metric.
Since the end of the 19th century, and after the works of F. Klein and H. Poincaré, it is well known that models of elliptic geometry and hyperbolic geometry can be given using projective geometry, and that Euclidean geometry can be seen as a "limit" of both geometries. Then all the geometries that can be obtained in this way. Some of these geometries had a rich development, most remarkably hyperbolic geometry and the Lorentzian geometries of Minkowski, de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spaces, which in higher dimension have had large interest for a long time in mathematical physics and more precis…
We prove: "If $M$ is a compact hypersurface of the hyperbolic space, convex by horospheres and evolving by the volume preserving mean curvature flow, then it flows for all time, convexity by horospheres is preserved and the flow converges, exponentially, to a geodesic sphere". In addition, we show that the same conclusions about long time existence and convergence hold if $M$ is not convex by horospheres but it is close enough to a geodesic sphere.
We prove gradient estimates for hypersurfaces in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+1},$ expanding by negative powers of a certain class of homogeneous curvature functions. We obtain optimal gradient estimates for hypersurfaces evolving by certain powers $p>1$ of $F^{-1}$ and smooth convergence of the properly rescaled hypersurfaces. In particular, the full convergence result holds for the inverse Gauss curvature flow of surfaces without any further pinching condition besides convexity of the initial hypersurface.
We show that, in toric manifolds, one can characterize the sign of the Ricci curvature in terms of the convexity of the volume functional. More generally we discuss relationships between (i) Ricci curvature and volume, (ii) totally real and Lagrangian submanifolds, (iii) pluri-subharmonic functions and convexity.
We study fundamental groups of toroidal compactifications of non compact ball quotients and show that the Shafarevich conjecture on holomorphic convexity for these complex projective manifolds is satisfied in dimension 2 provided the corresponding lattice is arithmetic and small enough. The method is to show that the Albanese mapping on an {é}tale covering space generates jets on the interior, if the lattice is small enough. We also explore some specific examples of Picard-Eisenstein type.
We study a volume/area preserving curvature flow of hypersurfaces that are convex by horospheres in the hyperbolic space, with velocity given by a generic positive, increasing function of the mean curvature, not necessarly homogeneous. For this class of speeds we prove the exponential convergence to a geodesic sphere. The proof is ispired by [10] and is based on the preserving of the convexity by horospheres that allows to bound the inner and outer radii and to give uniform bounds on the curvature by maximum principle arguments. In order to deduce the exponential trend, we study the behaviour …
In this paper we study asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds given as graphs of asymptotically constant functions over hyperbolic space $\bH^n$. The graphs are considered as subsets of $\bH^{n+1}$ and carry the induced metric. For such manifolds the scalar curvature appears in the divergence of a 1-form involving the integrand for the asymptotically hyperbolic mass. Integrating this divergence we estimate the mass by an integral over an inner boundary. In case the inner boundary satisfies a convexity condition this can in turn be estimated in terms of the area of the inner boundary. The resultin…

A compact Fuchsian manifold with boundary is a hyperbolic 3-manifold homeomorphic to $S_g \times [0; 1]$ such that the boundary component $S_g \times \{ 0\}$ is geodesic. We prove that a compact Fuchsian manifold with convex boundary is uniquely determined by the induced path metric on $S_g \times \{1\}$. We do not put further restrictions on the boundary except convexity.
We prove convergence results for expanding curvature flows in the Euclidean and hyperbolic space. The flow speeds have the form $F^{-p}$, where $p>1$ and $F$ is a positive, strictly monotone and 1-homogeneous curvature function. In particular this class includes the mean curvature $F=H$. We prove that a certain initial pinching condition is preserved and the properly rescaled hypersurfaces converge smoothly to the unit sphere. We show that an example due to Andrews-McCoy-Zheng can be used to construct strictly convex initial hypersurfaces, for which the inverse mean curvature flow to the power…
In this paper, we studied integrals involving both real and complex Hessian operators over bounded domain. Poincare type inequalities were proved in both cases which generalized a early results of Trudinger and Wang.
We introduce curvature-adapted foliations of complex hyperbolic space and study some of their properties. Generalized pseudo-Einstein hypersurfaces of complex hyperbolic space are classified. Analogous results for curvature-adapted hypersurfaces of quaternionic hyperbolic space are also obtained.
A Lie hypersurface in the complex hyperbolic space is an orbit of a cohomogeneity one action without singular orbit. In this paper, we classify Ricci soliton Lie hypersurfaces in the complex hyperbolic spaces.
Three results in p-convex geometry are established. First is the analogue of the Levi problem in several complex variables, namely: local p-convexity implies global p-convexity. The second asserts that the support of a minimal p-dimensional current is contained in the p-hull of the boundary union with the "core" of the space. Lastly, the exteme rays in the convex cone of p-positive matrices are characterized. This is a basic result with many applications.
In this paper, we consider generalized moment maps for Hamiltonian actions on $H$-twisted generalized complex manifolds introduced by Lin and Tolman \cite{Lin}. The main purpose of this paper is to show convexity and connectedness properties for generalized moment maps. We study Hamiltonian torus actions on compact $H$-twisted generalized complex manifolds and prove that all components of the generalized moment map are Bott-Morse functions. Based on this, we shall show that the generalized moment maps have a convex image and connected fibers. Furthermore, by applying the arguments of Lerman, M…
Let K be a connected Lie group and M a Hamiltonian K-manifold. In this paper, we introduce the notion of convexity of M. It implies that the momentum image is convex, the moment map has connected fibers, and the total moment map is open onto its image. Conversely, the three properties above imply convexity. We show that most Hamiltonian manifolds occuring "in nature" are convex (e.g., if M is compact, complex algebraic, or a cotangent bundle). Moreover, every Hamiltonian manifold is locally convex. This is an expanded version of section 2 of my paper dg-ga/9712010 on Weyl groups of Hamiltonian…
We introduce a geometric evolution equation of hyperbolic type, which governs the evolution of a hypersurface moving in the direction of its mean curvature vector. The flow stems from a geometrically natural action containing kinetic and internal energy terms. As the mean curvature of the hypersurface is the main driving factor, we refer to this model as the hyperbolic mean curvature flow (HMCF). The case that the initial velocity field is normal to the hypersurface is of particular interest: this property is preserved during the evolution and gives rise to a comparatively simpler evolution eq…
The theory of complex hyperbolic discrete groups is still in its childhood but promises to grow into a rich subfield of geometry. In this paper I will discuss some recent progress that has been made on complex hyperbolic deformations of the modular group and, more generally, triangle groups. These are some of the simplest nontrivial complex hyperbolic discrete groups. In particular, I will talk about my recent discovery of a closed real hyperbolic 3-manifold which appears as the manifold at infinity for a complex hyperbolic discrete group.
These are lectures on discrete groups of isometries of complex hyperbolic spaces, aimed to discuss interactions between the function theory on complex hyperbolic manifolds and the theory of discrete groups.
