In this paper, we first study the locally constrained curvature flow of hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space, which was introduced by Brendle, Guan and Li [7]. This flow preserves the $m$th quermassintegral and decreases $(m+1)$th quermassintegral, so the convergence of the flow yields sharp Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequalities in hyperbolic space. Some special cases have been studied in [7]. In the first part of this paper, we show that h-convexity of the hypersurface is preserved along the flow and then the smooth convergence of the flow for h-convex hypersurfaces follows. We then apply this result to establish some new sharp geometric inequalities comparing the integral of $k$th Gauss-Bonnet curvature of a smooth h-convex hypersurface to its $m$th quermassintegral (for $0\leq m\leq 2k+1\leq n$), and comparing the weighted integral of $k$th mean curvature to its $m$th quermassintegral (for $0\leq m\leq k\leq n$). In particular, we give an affirmative answer to a conjecture proposed by Ge, Wang and Wu in 2015.
In the second part of this paper, we introduce a new locally constrained curvature flow using the shifted principal curvatures. This is natural in the context of h-convexity. We prove the smooth convergence to a geodesic sphere of the flow for h-convex hypersurfaces, and provide a new proof of the geometric inequalities proved by Andrews, Chen and the third author of this paper in 2018. We also prove a family of new sharp inequalities involving the weighted integral of $k$th shifted mean curvature for h-convex hypersurfaces, which as application implies a higher order analogue of Brendle, Hung and Wang's [8] inequality.
We prove that the static convexity is preserved along two kinds of locally constrained curvature flows in hyperbolic space. Using the static convexity of the flow hypersurfaces, we prove new family of geometric inequalities for such hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space.
We establish versions of the Positive Mass and Penrose inequalities for a class of asymptotically hyperbolic hypersurfaces. In particular, under the usual dominant energy condition, we prove in all dimensions $n\geq 3$ an optimal Penrose inequality for certain graphs in hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^{n+1}$ whose boundary has constant mean curvature $n-1$.
We consider a conjecture made by Ge, Wang and Wu regarding weighted Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for horospherically convex hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space (a bound, for some physically motivated weight function, of the weighted integral of the $k^{\mathrm{th}}$ mean curvature in terms of the area of the hypersurface). We prove an inequality very similar to the conjectured one. Moreover, when $k$ is zero and the ambient space has dimension three, we give a counterexample to the conjectured inequality.
In this paper, firstly, inspired by Natário's recent work \cite{Na}, we use the isoperimetric inequality to derive some Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequalities for closed convex hypersurfaces in the hyperbolic space $\H^{n+1}$ and in the sphere $\SS^{n+1}$. We also get the rigidity in the spherical case. Secondly, we use the inverse mean curvature flow in sphere \cite{gerh,Mak-Sch} to prove an optimal Sobolev type inequality for closed convex hypersurfaces in the sphere.
In this paper we study the relationship of hyperbolicity and (Cheeger) isoperimetric inequality in the context of Riemannian manifolds and graphs. We characterize the hyperbolic manifolds and graphs (with bounded local geometry) verifying this isoperimetric inequality, in terms of their Gromov boundary improving similar results from a previous work. In particular, we prove that having a pole is a necessary condition and, therefore, it can be removed as hypothesis.
Through the study of some elliptic and parabolic fully nonlinear PDEs, we establish conformal versions of quermassintegral inequality, the Sobolev inequality and the Moser-Trudinger inequality for the geometric quantities associated to the Schouten tensor on locally conformally flat manifolds.
In this paper, we solve various isoperimetric problems for the quermassintegrals and the curvature integrals in the hyperbolic space $\H^n$, by using quermassintegral preserving curvature flows. As a byproduct, we obtain hyperbolic Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities.
In this paper we present not only some properties related to bi-warped product submanifolds of locally conformal almost cosymplectic manifolds, but also we show how the squared norm of the second fundamental form and the bi-warped product's warping functions are related when the bi-warped product submanifold has a proper slant submanifold as a base or fiber.
In this paper, we obtain the sharp $k$-th order Sobolev inequalities in the hyperbolic space ${\H}^n$ for all $k=1,2,3,\cdots$. This gives an answer to an open question raised by Aubin in [5, p.$\;$176-177] for $W^{k,2}({\H}^n)$ with $k>1$. In addition, we prove that the associated Sobolev constants are optimal.
Let $Σ$ be a $k$-dimensional complete proper minimal submanifold in the Poincaré ball model $B^n$ of hyperbolic geometry. If we consider $Σ$ as a subset of the unit ball $B^n$ in Euclidean space, we can measure the Euclidean volumes of the given minimal submanifold $Σ$ and the ideal boundary $\partial_\infty Σ$, say $\rvol(Σ)$ and $\rvol(\partial_\infty Σ)$, respectively. Using this concept, we prove an optimal linear isoperimetric inequality. We also prove that if $\rvol(\partial_\infty Σ) \geq \rvol(\mathbb{S}^{k-1})$, then $Σ$ satisfies the classical isoperimetric inequality. By proving the…
In the asymptotically locally hyperbolic setting it is possible to have metrics with scalar curvature at least -6 and negative mass when the genus of the conformal boundary at infinity is positive. Using inverse mean curvature flow, we prove a Penrose inequality for these negative mass metrics. The motivation comes from a previous result of P. Chruściel and W. Simon, which states that the Penrose inequality we prove implies a static uniqueness theorem for negative mass Kottler metrics.
In this paper, we prove a class of weighted isoperimetric inequalities for bounded domains in hyperbolic space by using the isoperimetric inequality with log-convex density in Euclidean space. As a consequence, we remove the horo-convex assumption of domains in a weighted isoperimetric inequality proved by Scheuer-Xia. Furthermore, we prove weighted isoperimetric inequalities for star-shaped domains in warped product manifolds. Particularly, we obtain a weighted isoperimetric inequality for star-shaped hypersurfaces lying outside a certain radial coordinate slice in the anti-de Sitter-Schwarzs…
We investigate the possibility of improving the $p$-Poincaré inequality $\|\nabla_{\mathbb{H}^N} u\|_p \ge Λ_p \|u\|_p$ on the hyperbolic space, where $p>2$ and $Λ_p:=[(N-1)/p]^{p}$ is the best constant for which such inequality holds. We prove several different, and independent, improved inequalities, one of which is a Poincaré-Hardy inequality, namely an improvement of the best $p$-Poincaré inequality in terms of the Hardy weight $r^{-p}$, $r$ being geodesic distance from a given pole. Certain Hardy-Maz'ya-type inequalities in the Euclidean half-space are also obtained.
Though Adams and Hardy-Adams inequalities can be extended to general symmetric spaces of noncompact type fairly straightforwardly by following closely the systematic approach developed in our early works on real and complex hyperbolic spaces, higher order Poincaré-Sobolev and Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequalities are more difficult to establish. The main purpose of this goal is to establish the Poincaré-Sobolev and Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequalities on quaternionic hyperbolic spaces and the Cayley hyperbolic plane. A crucial part of our work is to establish appropriate factorization theorems on the…
We construct transformations which take asymptotically AdS hyperbolic initial data into asymptotically flat initial data, and which preserve relevant physical quantities. This is used to derive geometric inequalities in the asymptotically AdS hyperbolic setting from counterparts in the asymptotically flat realm, whenever a geometrically motivated system of elliptic equations admits a solution. The inequalities treated here relate mass, angular momentum, charge, and horizon area.
In this paper we prove the following geometric inequality in the hyperbolic space $\H^n$ ($n\ge 5)$, which is a hyperbolic Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality, \[\begin{array}{rcl} \ds \int_Σ\s_4 d μ\ge \ds\vs C_{n-1}^4ω_{n-1}\left\{\left(\frac{|Σ|}{ω_{n-1}} \right)^\frac 12 + \left(\frac{|Σ|}{ω_{n-1}} \right)^{\frac 12\frac {n-5}{n-1}} \right\}^2, \end{array}\] provided that $Σ$ is a horospherical convex hypersurface. Equality holds if and only if $Σ$ is a geodesic sphere in $\H^n$.
In this paper we study the extent to which conformally compact asymptotically hyperbolic metrics may be characterized intrinsically. Building on the work of the first author, we prove that decay of sectional curvature to -1 and decay of covariant derivatives of curvature outside an appropriate compact set yield Hölder regularity for a conformal compactification of the metric. In the Einstein case, we prove that the estimate on the sectional curvature implies the control of all covariant derivatives of the Weyl tensor, permitting us to strengthen our result.
In this paper we first establish an optimal Sobolev type inequality for hypersurfaces in $\H^n$(see Theorem \ref{mainthm1}). As an application we obtain hyperbolic Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for curvature integrals and quermassintegrals. Precisely, we prove a following geometric inequality in the hyperbolic space $\H^n$, which is a hyperbolic Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality, \begin{equation*} \begin{array}{rcl} \ds \int_Σ\s_{2k}\ge \ds\vs C_{n-1}^{2k}ω_{n-1}\left\{\left(\frac{|Σ|}{ω_{n-1}} \right)^\frac 1k + \left(\frac{|Σ|}{ω_{n-1}} \right)^{\frac 1k\frac {n-1-2k}{n-1}} \right\}^k, \end{ar…
In this article, we will use inverse mean curvature flow to establish an optimal Sobolev-type inequality for hypersurfaces $Σ$ with nonnegative sectional curvature in $\mathbb{H}^n$. As an application, we prove the hyperbolic Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for hypersurfaces with nonnegative sectional curvature in $\mathbb{H}^n$: \begin{align*} \int_Σ p_{2k}\geq ω_{n-1}\left[\left(\frac{|Σ|}{ω_{n-1}}\right)^\frac{1}{k}+\left(\frac{|Σ|}{ω_{n-1}}\right)^{\frac{1}{k}\frac{n-1-2k}{n-1}}\right]^k, \end{align*} where $p_i$ is the normalized $i$-th mean curvature. Equality holds if and only if $Σ$ is…
In this paper we shall show that the boundary $\partial I_{p,q}$ of the hyperbolic building $I_{p,q}$ considered in M. Bourdon, \emph{Immeubles hyperboliques, dimension conforme et rigidité de Mostow} (Geometric And Functional Analysis, Vol 7 (1997), p 245-268) admits Poincaré type inequalities. Then by using Heinonen-Koskela's work, we shall prove Loewner capacity estimates for some families of curves of $\partial I_{p,q}$ and the fact that every quasiconformal homeomorphism $f : \partial I_{p,q} \longrightarrow \partial I_{p,q}$ is quasisymetric. Therefore by these results, the answers to ce…
Let (M, g) be an (n + 1)-dimensional asymptotically locally hyperbolic (ALH) manifold with a conformal compactification whose conformal infinity is ($\partial$M, [$γ$]). We will first observe that Ch(M, g) $\le$ n, where Ch(M, g) is the Cheeger constant of M. We then prove that, if the Ricci curvature of M is bounded from below by --n and its scalar curvature approaches --n(n+1) fast enough at infinity, then Ch(M, g) = n if and only Y($\partial$M, [$γ$]) $\ge$ 0, where Y($\partial$M, [$γ$]) denotes the Yamabe invariant of the conformal infinity. This gives an answer to a question raised by J. …
In this paper we study asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds given as graphs of asymptotically constant functions over hyperbolic space $\bH^n$. The graphs are considered as subsets of $\bH^{n+1}$ and carry the induced metric. For such manifolds the scalar curvature appears in the divergence of a 1-form involving the integrand for the asymptotically hyperbolic mass. Integrating this divergence we estimate the mass by an integral over an inner boundary. In case the inner boundary satisfies a convexity condition this can in turn be estimated in terms of the area of the inner boundary. The resultin…
In this article, we will use the harmonic mean curvature flow to prove a new class of Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequalities for strictly convex hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space in terms of total curvature, which is the integral of Gaussian curvature on the hypersurface. We will also use the harmonic mean curvature flow to prove a new class of geometric inequalities for horospherically convex hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space. Using these new Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequalities and the inverse mean curvature flow, we obtain an Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality for strictly convex hypersurfaces in …
In this paper we study the systole growth of arithmetic locally symmetric spaces up congruence covers and show that this growth is at least logarithmic in volume. This generalizes previous work of Buser and Sarnak as well as Katz, Schaps and Vishne where the case of compact hyperbolic 2- and 3-manifolds was considered.
The existence of a smooth complete strictly locally convex hypersurface with prescribed scalar curvature and asymptotic boundary at infinity in $\mathbb{H}^{3}$ is proved under the assumption that there exists a strictly locally convex subsolution.
This paper continues the program initiated in the works by the authors [60], [61] and [62] and by the authors with Li [51] and [52] to establish higher order Poincaré-Sobolev, Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya, Adams and Hardy-Adams inequalities on real hyperbolic spaces using the method of Helgason-Fourier analysis on the hyperbolic spaces. The aim of this paper is to establish such inequalities on the Siegel domains and complex hyperbolic spaces. Firstly, we prove a factorization theorem for the operators on the complex hyperbolic space which is closely related to Geller' operator, as well as the CR inva…
We show in this article that Kähler hyperbolic manifolds satisfy a family of optimal Chern number inequalities and the equality cases can be attained by some compact ball quotients. These present restrictions to complex structures on negatively-curved compact Kähler manifolds, thus providing evidence to the rigidity conjecture of S.-T. Yau. The main ingredients in our proof are Gromov's results on the $L^2$-Hodge numbers, the $-1$-phenomenon of the $χ_y$-genus and Hirzebruch's proportionality principle. Similar methods can be applied to obtain parallel results on Kähler non-elliptic manifolds.…
In this paper we obtain two types of optimal inequalities consisting of the normalized scalar curvature and the generalized normalized $δ$-Casorati curvatures for real hypersurfaces of complex two-plane Grassmannians and complex hyperbolic two-plane Grassmannians. We also find the conditions on which the equalities hold.
The asymptotic Plateau problem asks for the existence of smooth complete hypersurfaces of constant mean curvature with prescribed asymptotic boundary at infinity in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. The modified mean curvature flow (MMCF) was firstly introduced by Xiao and the second author a few years back, and it provides a tool using geometric flow to find such hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature in $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. Similar to the usual mean curvature flow, the MMCF is the natural negative $L^2$-gradient flow of the area-volume functional $\mathcal{I}(Σ)=A(Σ)+σV(Σ)$ associa…
We use the inverse mean curvature flow to prove a sharp Alexandrov-Fenchel-type inequality for a class of hypersurfaces in certain locally hyperbolic manifolds. As an application we derive an optimal Penrose inequality for asymptotically locally hyperbolic graphs in any dimension $n\geq 3$. When the horizon has the topology of a compact surface of genus at least one, this provides an affirmative answer, for this class of initial data sets, to a question posed by Gibbons, Chruściel and Simon on the validity of a Penrose-type inequality for black hole solutions carrying a higher genus horizon.
The paper consists of two parts. In the first part, by using the Gauss-Bonnet curvature, which is a natural generalization of the scalar curvature, we introduce a higher order mass, the Gauss-Bonnet-Chern mass $m^{\H}_k$, for asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds and show that it is a geometric invariant. Moreover, we prove a positive mass theorem for this new mass for asymptotically hyperbolic graphs and establish a relationship between the corresponding Penrose type inequality for this mass and weighted Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities in the hyperbolic space $\H^n$. In the second part, we esta…
In this paper we pursue the work initiated in \cite{Bahuaud, BahuaudGicquaud}: study the extent to which conformally compact asymptotically hyperbolic metrics can be characterized intrinsically. We show how the decay rate of the sectional curvature to -1 controls the Hölder regularity of the compactified metric. To this end, we construct harmonic coordinates that satisfy some Neumann-type condition at infinity. Combined with a new integration argument, this permits us to recover to a large extent our previous result without any decay assumption on the covariant derivatives of the Riemann tenso…
Rigidity results for asymptotically locally hyperbolic manifolds with lower bounds on scalar curvature are proved using spinor methods related to the Witten proof of the positive mass theorem. The argument is based on a study of the Dirac operator defined with respect to the Killing connection. The existence of asymptotic Killing spinors is related to the spin structure on the end. The expression for the mass is calculated and proven to vanish for conformally compact Einstein manifolds with conformal boundary a spherical space form, giving rigidity. In the 4-dimensional case, the signature of …
We investigate 3-dimensional globally hyperbolic AdS manifolds containing "particles", i.e., cone singularities of angles less than $2π$ along a time-like graph $Γ$. To each such space we associate a graph and a finite family of pairs of hyperbolic surfaces with cone singularities. We show that this data is sufficient to recover the space locally (i.e., in the neighborhood of a fixed metric). This is a partial extension of a result of Mess for non-singular globally hyperbolic AdS manifolds.
We prove generalizations of the isoperimetric inequality for both spherical and hyperbolic wave fronts (i.e. piecewise smooth curves which may have cusps). We then discuss "bicycle curves" using the generalized isoperimetric inequalities. The euclidean model of a bicycle is a unit segment AB that can move so that it remains tangent to the trajectory of point A (the rear wheel is fixed on the bicycle frame). We extend this definition to a general Riemannian manifold, and concern ourselves in particular with bicycle curves in the hyperbolic plane H^2 and on the sphere S^2. We prove results along…
Using the Fourier analysis techniques on hyperbolic spaces and Green's function estimates, we confirm in this paper the conjecture given by the same authors in [43]. Namely, we prove that the sharp constant in the $\frac{n-1}{2}$-th order Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequality in the upper half space of dimension $n$ coincides with the best $\frac{n-1}{2}$-th order Sobolev constant when $n$ is odd and $n\geq9$ (See Theorem 1.6). We will also establish a lower bound of the coefficient of the Hardy term for the $k-$th order Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequality in upper half space in the remaining cases of d…
We provide a Hilbert manifold structure {à} la Bartnik for the space of asymptotically hyperbolic initial data for the vacuum constraint equations. The adaptation led us to prove new weighted Poincar{é} and Korn type inequalities for AH manifolds with inner boundary and weakly regular metric.
