We study Galois points for a hypersurface $X$ with $\dim {\rm Sing}(X) \le \dim X-2$. The purpose of this article is to determine the set $Δ(X)$ of Galois points in characteristic zero: Indeed, we give a sharp upper bound of the number of Galois points in terms of $\dim X$ and $\dim {\rm Sing}(X)$ if $Δ(X)$ is a finite set, and prove that $X$ is a cone if $Δ(X)$ is infinite. To achieve our purpose, we need a certain hyperplane section theorem on Galois point. We prove this theorem in arbitrary characteristic. On the other hand, the hyperplane section theorem has other important applications: For example, we can classify the Galois group induced from a Galois point in arbitrary characteristic and determine the distribution of Galois points for a Fermat hypersurface of degree $p^e+1$ in characteristic $p>0$.
Let $X$ be a smooth hypersurface $X$ of degree $d\geq4$ in a projective space $\mathbb P^{n+1}$. We consider a projection of $X$ from $p\in\mathbb P^{n+1}$ to a plane $H\cong\mathbb P^n$. This projection induces an extension of function fields $\mathbb C(X)/\mathbb C(\mathbb P^n)$. The point $p$ is called a Galois point if the extension is Galois. In this paper, we will give a necessary and sufficient conditions for $X$ to have Galois points by using linear automorphisms.
A point $P$ in projective space is said to be Galois with respect to a hypersurface if the function field extension induced by the projection from $P$ is Galois. We present a hyperplane section theorem for Galois points. Precisely, if $P$ is a Galois point for a hypersurface, then $P$ is Galois for a general hyperplane section passing through $P$. As an application, we determine hypersurfaces of dimension $n$ with $n$-dimensional sets of Galois points.
We characterize all $(n-2)$-dimensional linear subspaces of $\mathbb{P}^{n}$ such that the induced linear projection, when restricted to the rational normal curve, gives a Galois morphism. We give an explicit description of these spaces as a disjoint union of locally closed subvarieties in the Grassmannian $\mathbb{G}(n-2,n)$.
Let $X$ be an irreducible, reduced complex projective hypersurface of degree $d$. A point $P$ not contained in $X$ is called uniform if the monodromy group of the projection of $X$ from $P$ is isomorphic to the symmetric group $S_d$. We prove that the locus of non--uniform points is finite when $X$ is smooth or a general projection of a smooth variety. In general, it is contained in a finite union of linear spaces of codimension at least $2$, except possibly for a special class of hypersurfaces with singular locus linear in codimension $1$. Moreover, we generalise a result of Fukasawa and Taka…
We are interested in the normal class of an algebraic hypersurface Z of the complex projective space P^n, that is the number of normal lines to Z passing through a generic point of P^n. Thanks to the notion of normal polar, we state a formula for the normal class valid for a general hypersurface Z of P^n. We give a generic result and we illustrate our formula with examples in P^n. We define the orthogonal indidence variety and compute the Schubert class of the variety of projective normal lines to a surface of P^3 in the Show ring of G(1,3). We complete our work with a generalization of Salmon…
Kyoji Saito defined a residue map from the logarithmic differential 1-forms along a reduced complex analytic hypersurface to the meromorphic functions on the hypersurface. He studied the condition that the image of this map coincides with the weakly holomorphic functions, that is, with the functions on the normalization. With Michel Granger, the author proved that this condition is equivalent to the hypersurface being normal crossing in codimension one. In this article, the condition is given a natural interpretation in terms of regular differential forms beyond the hypersurface case. For redu…
Let $X \subset \mathbb{P}^n$ be a smooth hypersurface. Given a sequence of integers $\vec{a} = (a_1, \ldots, a_{n-2})$ with $a_1 \leq \cdots \leq a_{n-2}$, let $F_{\vec{a}}(X)$ be the parameter space of lines $L$ on $X$ such that $N_{L/X} \cong \mathcal{O}(a_1) \oplus \cdots \oplus \mathcal{O}(a_{n-2})$. The loci $F_{\vec{a}}(X)$ form a stratification of the Fano scheme of lines on $X$. We show that for general hypersurfaces, the $F_{\vec{a}}(X)$ have the expected dimension and, in this case, compute the class of $\overline{F_{\vec{a}}(X)}$ in the Chow ring of the Grassmannian of lines in $\ma…
Kontsevich and Manin gave a formula for the number $N_e$ of rational plane curves of degree $e$ through $3e-1$ points in general position in the plane. When these $3e-1$ points have coordinates in the rational numbers, the corresponding set of $N_e$ rational curves has a natural Galois-module structure. We make some extremely preliminary investigations into this Galois module structure, and relate this to the deck transformations of the generic fibre of the product of the evaluation maps on the moduli space of maps. We then study the asymptotics of the number of rational points on hypersurface…
We investigate the complex analytic structure of the complement of a non-singular hypersurface with unitary flat normal bundle when the corresponding line bundle admits a Hermitian metric with semipositive curvature.
Iterative differential Galois theory: a model theoretic approach
This paper investigates the density of hypersurfaces in a projective normal simplicial toric variety over a finite field having a quasismooth intersection with a given quasismooth subscheme. The result generalizes the formula found by B. Poonen for smooth projective varieties. As an application, we further analyze the density of hypersurfaces with bounds on their number of singularities and on the length of their singular schemes.
