Recently, a class of gravitational backgrounds in 3+1 dimensions have been proposed as holographic duals to a Lifshitz theory describing critical phenomena in 2+1 dimensions with critical exponent $z\geq 1$. We continue our earlier work \cite{Bertoldi:2009vn}, exploring the thermodynamic properties of the "black brane" solutions with horizon topology $\mathbb{R}^2$. We find that the black branes satisfy the relation $\mathcal{E}=\frac{2}{2+z}Ts$ where $\mathcal{E}$ is the energy density, $T$ is the temperature, and $s$ is the entropy density. This matches the expected behavior for a 2+1 dimensional theory with a scaling symmetry $(x_1,x_2)\to λ(x_1,x_2)$, $t\to λ^z t$.
A Lifshitz black brane at generic dynamical critical exponent $z > 1$, with non-zero linear momentum along the boundary, provides a holographic dual description of a non-equilibrium steady state in a quantum critical fluid, with Lifshitz scale invariance but without boost symmetry. We consider moving Lifshitz branes in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gravity and obtain the non-relativistic stress tensor complex of the dual field theory via a suitable holographic renormalisation procedure. The resulting black brane hydrodynamics and thermodynamics are a concrete holographic realization of a Lifshitz p…
We construct a new class of 4-dimensional z=2 Lifshitz black branes that have a nonzero linear momentum. These are solutions of an Einstein-Proca-dilaton model that can be obtained by Scherk-Schwarz circle reduction of AdS_5 gravity coupled to a free real scalar field. The boundary of a bulk Lifshitz space-time is a Newton-Cartan geometry. We show that the fluid dual to the moving Lifshitz black brane leads to a novel form of Lifshitz hydrodynamics on a Newton-Cartan space-time. Since the linear momentum of the black brane cannot be obtained by a boost transformation the velocity of the fluid …
In continuation with our studies of Lifshitz like D$p$-brane solutions, we propose a class of 1/4 BPS supersymmetric interpolating solutions which interpolate between IR Lifshitz solutions and UV AdS solutions smoothly. We demonstrate properties of these classical solutions near the two fixed points. These interpolating solutions are then used to calculate the entanglement entropies of strip-like subsystems. With these bulk solutions the entropy functional also gets modified. We also make a curious observation about the electric-magnetic duality and the thermal entropy of the Hodge-dual Lifshi…
We extend our earlier study of special double limits of `boosted' $AdS_5$ black hole solutions to include all black D$p$-branes of type II strings. We find that Lifshitz solutions can be obtained in generality, with varied dynamical exponents, by employing these limits. We then study such double limits for `boosted' D$p$-brane bubble solutions and find that the resulting non-relativistic solutions instead describe Schrödinger like spacetimes, having varied dynamical exponents. We get a simple map between these Lifshitz & Schrödinger solutions and a relationship between two types of dynamical e…
We construct analytical Lifshitz massive black brane solutions in massive Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity theory. We also study the thermodynamics of these black brane solutions and obtain the thermodynamical stability conditions. On the dual nonrelativistic boundary field theory with Lifshitz symmetry, we analytically compute the DC transport coefficients, including the electric conductivity, thermoelectric conductivity, and thermal conductivity. The novel property of our model is that the massive term supports the Lifshitz black brane solutions with $z\neq 1$ in such a way that the DC trans…
We discuss two classes of non-supersymmetric interpolating solutions in N=2, D=4 gauged supergravity, that flow from either a z=2 Lifshitz geometry or a conformal AdS background to the near-horizon geometry of a Nernst brane. We obtain these solutions by constructing a z=2 supersymmetric Lifshitz solution in the STU model from a first-order rewriting of the action, then lifting it up to a five-dimensional background and subsequently modifying this five-dimensional solution by a two-parameter family of deformations. Under reduction, these give four-dimensional non-supersymmetric Nernst brane so…
In this paper, based on the method of scalar perturbations, we construct the \textit{anisotropic} charged Lifshitz background perturbatively upto leading order in the anisotropy. We perform our analysis both in the extremal as well as in the non extremal limit. Finally, we probe the so called superfluid phase of the boundary theory and explore the effects of anisotropy on the superconducting condensate.
In this paper we calculate the ratio of transverse shear viscosity to entropy density for the general anisotropic black brane in Horava-Lifshitz gravity. There is a well-known conjecture that states this ratio should be larger than $\frac{1}{4π}$. The ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density is proportional to the inverse square coupling of quantum thermal field theory,$\frac{η}{s} \sim \frac{1}{λ^2 }$. Especially in QFT with gravity dual the stronger coupling means the shear viscosity per entropy density gets closer to the lower bound of $\frac{1}{4π}$. The KSS bound preserves in the aniso…
We present a simple embedding of a z=2 Lifshitz space-time into type IIB supergravity. This is obtained by considering a stack of D3-branes in type IIB supergravity and deforming the world-volume by a plane wave. The plane wave is sourced by the type IIB axion. The superposition of the plane wave and the D3-branes is 1/4 BPS. The near horizon geometry of this configuration is a 5-dimensional z=0 Schroedinger space-time times a 5-sphere. This geometry is also 1/4 BPS. Upon compactification along the direction in which the wave is traveling the 5-dimensional z=0 Schroedinger space-time reduces t…
In a previous paper (Dey and Roy, arXiv:1203.5381) we have shown how Lifshitz-like space-times (space-times having Lifshitz scaling with hyperscaling violation) arise from 1/4 BPS, threshold F-D$p$ bound state solutions of type II string theories in the near horizon limit. In this paper we show that similar structures also arise from the near horizon limit of 1/4 BPS, threshold intersecting D-brane solutions of type II string theories. Some of these solutions are standard (D$p$-D($p+4$) for $p=0, 2$) and some are non-standard (D$p$-D($p+2)$ for $p = 1, 2, 3$) including D2-D2$'$, D3-D3$'$ and D…
It is observed that the (intersecting) branes of M/string theory, which are known to give AdS geometry (directly or upto a conformal transformation) in the near horizon limit, do also lead to Schr\" odinger/Lifshitz dual space-times (without or with hyperscaling violation) upon using appropriate solution generating transformation and dimensional reduction. We show that the dynamical exponents of the Schr\" odinger and the Lifshitz space-times obtained in this way always add upto 2. We illustrate this by several examples, including M2-, M5-branes of M-theory and D$(p+1)$-branes ($p\neq 4$, sinc…
We study scalar perturbations of nonlinear charged Lifshitz black branes with hyperscaling violating factor, and we find numerically the quasinormal modes for scalar fields. Then, we study the stability of these black branes under massive and massless scalar field perturbations. Also, we consider different values of the dynamical exponent, the nonlinear exponent and the hyperscaling violating exponent.
We study Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theories with a cosmological constant and U(1)^N gauge symmetry, considering metrics asymptotically approaching the Lifshiftz metric. We study the dependence of the phase diagram on the value of the dynamical exponent. Along the way, we apply holographic renormalization and propose a counterterm valid for arbitrary dimension and dynamical exponent in our setup.
We study $R^{2}$ corrections to five-dimensional asymptotically Lifshitz spacetimes by adding Gauss-Bonnet terms in the effective action. For the zero-temperature backgrounds we obtain exact solutions in both pure Gauss-Bonnet gravity and Gauss-Bonnet gravity with non-trivial matter. The dynamical exponent undergoes finite renormalization in the latter case. For the finite-temperature backgrounds we obtain black brane solutions perturbatively and calculate the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density $η/s$. The KSS bound is still violated but unlike the relativistic counterparts, the causal…
We investigate several aspects of exact black hole solutions in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime, which were proposed in 0812.0530. Firstly, we calculate the tidal forces and find that in the near horizon region of such black hole backgrounds, the tidal forces diverge in the near extremal limit. Secondly, we evaluate the Wilson loops in both extremal and finite temperature cases. Finally, we obtain the corresponding shear viscosity and square of the sound speed and find that the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density takes the universal value $1/4π$ in arbitrary dimensions while the squa…
We construct 1/4 BPS, threshold F-D$p$ bound states (with $0\leq p \leq 5$) of type II string theories by applying S- and T-dualities to the D1-D5 system of type IIB string theory. These are different from the known 1/2 BPS, non-threshold F-D$p$ bound states. The near horizon limits of these solutions yield Lifshitz-like space-times with varying dynamical critical exponent $z=2(5-p)/(4-p)$, for $p\neq 4$, along with the hyperscaling violation exponent $θ= p - (p-2)/(4-p)$, showing how Lifshitz-like space-time can be obtained from string theory. The dilatons are in general non-constant (except …
We investigate the thermodynamics of Lovelock-Lifshitz black branes. We begin by introducing the finite action of third order Lovelock gravity in the presence of a massive vector field for a flat boundary, and use it to compute the energy density of these black branes. Using the field equations, we find a conserved quantity along the $r$ coordinate that relates the metric parameters at the horizon and at infinity. Remarkably, though the subleading large-$r$ behavior of Lovelock-Lifshitz black branes differs substantively from their Einsteinian Lifshitz counterparts, we find that the relationsh…
We construct analytic solutions describing black holes and black branes in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetimes with arbitrary dynamical exponent z and for arbitrary number of dimensions. The model considered consists of Einstein gravity with negative cosmological constant, a scalar, and N U(1) gauge fields with dilatonic-like couplings. We study the phase diagrams and thermodynamic instabilities of the solution, and find qualitative differences between the cases with 1<= z<2, z=2 and z>2.
In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamics of Lifshitz black branes in the presence of a nonlinear massless electromagnetic field. We begin by introducing the appropriate action in grand-canonical and canonical ensembles for nonlinear electromagnetic field. The condition on the parameters of the metric for having black brane solutions will be presented. Since the field equations cannot be solved for an arbitrary value of the critical exponent $z$, we obtain a conserved quantity along the $r$ coordinate that enables us to relate the parameters of the metric at the horizon and at infinity.…
In this paper we have considered the structure of the non-projectable Horava-Melby-Thompson (HMT) gravity to find braneworld scenarios. A relativistic scalar field is considered in the matter sector and we have shown how to reduce the equations of motion to first-order differential equations. In particular, we have studied thick brane solutions of both the dilatonic and Randall-Sundrum types.
We study the gravity dual of a Lifshitz field theory in the context of a RSII brane-world scenario, taking into account the effects of the extra dimension through the contribution of the electric part of the Weyl tensor. We study the thermodynamical behavior of such asymptotically Lifshitz black holes. It is shown that the entropy imposes the critical exponent $z$ to be bounded from above. This maximum value of $z$ corresponds to a positive infinite entropy as long as the temperature is kept positive. The stability and phase transition for different spatial topologies are also discussed.
We investigate black brane solutions in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime in 3+1-dimensional Horndeski gravity, which admit a critical exponent fixed at $z=1/2$. The cosmological constant depends on $z$ as $Λ=-(1+2z)/L^{2}$. We compute the shear viscosity in the 2+1-dimensional dual boundary field theory via holographic correspondence. We investigate the violation of the bound for viscosity to entropy density ratio of $η/s\geq1/(4π)$ at $z=1/2$.
We study the DC conductivity and the diffusion constant for asymptotically Lifshitz black branes in $(d+2)$- dimensions with arbitrary dynamical exponent $z$. For a solvable example with $z=2, d=4$, we calculate the real-time correlation functions, from which we can read off the corresponding conductivity and diffusion constant. For black branes with arbitrary $z$ and $d$, we work out the conductivity and obtain the diffusion constant by making use of the Einstein relation. All the results agree with those obtained via the membrane paradigm.
We calculated drag force for asymptotically Lifshitz space times in (d + 2)-dimensions with arbitrary dynamical exponent $z$. We find that at zero and finite temperature the drag force has a non-zero value. Using the drag force calculations, we investigate the DC conductivity of strange metals.
We explore string/M-theory constructions of holographic theories with Lifshitz scaling exponent $z$ and hyperscaling violation exponent $θ$, finding a range of $z,θ$-values. Some of these arise as effective metrics from dimensional reduction of certain kinds of null deformations of $AdS$ spacetimes appearing in the near horizon geometries of extremal D3-, M2- and M5-brane theories. The $AdS_5$ solution in particular gives rise to $θ=1$ in $d=2$ (boundary) space dimensions. Other solutions arise as the IIA D2- and D4-brane solutions with appropriate null deformations, and we discuss the phase s…
We investigate the thermodynamics of rotating Lovelock-Lifshitz black branes. We calculate the conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the solutions and obtain a relation between temperature, angular velocity, energy density, entropy density and angular momentum density. We, also, obtain a Smarr-type formula for the energy density as a function of entropy and angular momentum densities, and show that the thermodynamic quantities calculated in this paper satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Finally, we investigate the stability of black brane solutions in both canonical and grand-canonica…
Using black brane solutions in 5d Lifshitz-like backgrounds with arbitrary dynamical exponent $ν$, we construct the Vaidya geometry, asymptoting to the Lifshitz-like spacetime, which represents a thin shell infalling at the speed of light. We apply the new Lifshitz-Vaidya background to study the thermalization process of the quark-gluon plasma via the thin shell approach previously successfully used in several backgrounds. We find that the thermalization depends on the chosen direction because of the spatial anisotropy. The plasma thermalizes thus faster in the transversal direction than in th…
In our previous papers we have shown how Lifshitz-like space-time (space-time having a Lifshitz scaling along with a hyperscaling violation) can arise by taking near horizon limits of certain intersecting solutions (F-string with D$p$-branes and also with two D-branes) of string theory. In this paper we construct intersecting bound state solutions in the form of NS5-D$p$-branes (with $1\leq p \leq 6$) of type II string theories. These are 1/4 BPS and threshold bound states unlike the known NS5-D$p$ bound states which are 1/2 BPS and non-threshold. We show that the near horizon limits of these …
We disclose the effects of the logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics on the holographic conductivity of Lifshitz dilaton black holes/branes. We analyze thermodynamics of these solutions as a necessary requirement for applying gauge/gravity duality, by calculating conserved and thermodynamic quantities such as the temperature, entropy, electric potential and mass of the black holes/branes. We calculate the holographic conductivity for a $(2+1)$-dimensional brane boundary and study its behavior in terms of the frequency per temperature. Interestingly enough, we find out that, in contrast to the …
Under a Scherk-Schwarz compactification, the AdS soliton and black brane provide a dual description to a confinement/deconfinement phase transition. We extend this construction to asymptotically Lifshitz spacetimes. In particular, we show that there must be a phase transition between the soliton and black hole if the solutions exist. We also construct these solutions numerically and compute the phase diagram.
Black holes in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime provide a window onto finite temperature effects in strongly coupled Lifshitz models. We add a Maxwell gauge field and charged matter to a recently proposed gravity dual of 2+1 dimensional Lifshitz theory. This gives rise to charged black holes with scalar hair, which correspond to the superconducting phase of holographic superconductors with z > 1 Lifshitz scaling. Along the way we analyze the global geometry of static, asymptotically Lifshitz black holes at arbitrary critical exponent z > 1. In all known exact solutions there is a null curvatu…
In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamics of hyperscaling violating Lifshitz black branes in the presence of a nonlinear massless electromagnetic field. We, first, obtain analytic nonlinear charged black brane solutions with hyperscaling violating factor in dilaton gravity and give the condition on the parameters of the metric for having black brane solutions. Second, we introduce the appropriate finite action in grand-canonical and canonical ensembles for nonlinear electromagnetic field. Next, by generalizing the counterterm method for the asymptotic Lifshitz spacetimes with hyperscali…
We study the transport coefficients, including the conductivities and shear viscosity of the non-relativistic field theory dual to the Lifshitz black brane with multiple U(1) gauge fields by virtue of the gauge/gravity duality. Focusing on the case of double U(1) gauge fields, we systematically investigate the electric, thermal and thermoelectric conductivities for the dual non-relativistic field theory. In the large frequency regime, we find a nontrivial power law behavior in the electric AC conductivity when the dynamical critical exponent z>1 in (2+1)-dimensional field theory. The relations…
We study the scalar and vector channels of gravitational quasinormal modes for Lifshitz black branes emerging in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton and Einstein-Proca theories in four and five dimensions, finding significant differences between the two models. In particular, rather surprisingly, in the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton model the dispersion relations for the shear and sound modes are given by $ω_{shear} \sim -i\,k^4$ and $ω_{sound}\sim-i \,k^2$, while in the Einstein-Proca model they take the more conventional form $ω_{shear} \sim -i\,k^2$ and $ω_{sound}\sim k$, the proportionality constants depe…
We study asymptotically Lifshitz solutions with critical exponent $z \neq 1$ in Horava gravity in three and four spacetime dimensions. For $z=2$ and $z=3/2$, we find a novel class of numerical solutions with regular universal horizon, but are characterized by non-analytic behavior near infinity. In the interior, inside the universal horizon, the unit timelike vector field associated with the preferred time foliation exhibits oscillatory behavior, qualitatively similar to that found earlier in asymptotically flat solutions. For $z>2$ no solutions of this type appear to exist. We comment on pote…

Recently, a class of gravitational backgrounds in 3+1 dimensions have been proposed as holographic duals to a Lifshitz theory describing critical phenomena in 2+1 dimensions with critical exponent $z\geq 1$. We numerically explore black holes in these backgrounds for a range of values of $z$. We find drastically different behavior for $z>2$ and $z<2$. We find that for $z>2$ ($z<2$) the Lifshitz fixed point is repulsive (attractive) when going to larger radial parameter $r$. For the repulsive $z>2$ backgrounds, we find a continuous family of black holes satisfying a finite energy condition. How…
We consider supersymmetric configurations in Type IIB supergravity obtained by the beackreaction of fundamental strings ending on a stack of D3-branes and smeared uniformly in the three spatial directions along the D3-branes. These automatically include a distribution of D5-brane baryon vertices necessary to soak up string charge. The backgrounds are static, preserving eight supersymmetries, an SO(5) global symmetry and symmetry under spatial translations and rotations. We obtain the most general BPS configurations consistent with the symmetries. We show that the solutions to the Type IIB fiel…
Horava gravity theory possesses global Lifshitz space as a solution and has been conjectured to provide a natural framework for Lifshitz holography. We derive the conditions on the two derivative Horava gravity Lagrangian that are necessary for static, asymptotically Lifshitz spacetimes with flat transverse dimensions to contain a universal horizon, which plays a similar thermodynamic role as the Killing horizon in general relativity. Specializing to z=2 in 1+2 dimensions, we then numerically construct such regular solutions over the whole spacetime. We calculate the mass for these solutions a…
We study the quasinormal modes and thermal radiation of massless spin-0 field perturbations in the background of four-dimensional (4D) non-Abelian charged Lifshitz black branes with $z=2$ hyperscaling violation, which correspond to systems with superconducting fluctuations. After having an analytical solution to the Klein-Gordon equation, we obtain exact quasinormal modes that are purely imaginary. Therefore, there is no oscillatory behavior in the perturbations that guarantees the mode stability of these solutions. We also study the greybody factors, absorption cross-section, and decay rate o…
We consider scalar field perturbations about asymptotically Lifshitz black holes with dynamical exponent z in D dimensions. We show that, for suitable boundary conditions, these Lifshitz black holes are stable under scalar field perturbations. For z=2, we explicitly compute the quasinormal mode frecuencies, which result to be purely imaginary, and then obtain the damping-off of the scalar field perturbation in these backgrounds. The general analysis includes, in particular, the z=3 black hole solution of three-dimensional massive gravity.
Static asymptotically Lifshitz wormholes and black holes in vacuum are shown to exist for a class of Lovelock theories in d=2n+1>7 dimensions, selected by requiring that all but one of their n maximally symmetric vacua are AdS of radius l and degenerate. The wormhole geometry is regular everywhere and connects two Lifshitz spacetimes with a nontrivial geometry at the boundary. The dynamical exponent z is determined by the quotient of the curvature radii of the maximally symmetric vacua according to n(z^2-1)+1=(l/L)^2, where L corresponds to the curvature radius of the nondegenerate vacuum. Lig…
In this note we construct asymptotically Lifshitz spacetimes in the Chern-Simons formulation of three dimensional higher spin gravity and relate the resulting theories to integrable systems which are elements of the KdV hierarchy.
We present an overview of the construction of the general holographic dictionary for asymptotically locally Lifshitz and hyperscaling violating Lifshitz backgrounds with arbitrary dynamical exponents $z$ and $θ$, compatible with the null energy condition, which was recently developed in [1,2]. A concrete definition of asymptotically locally Lifshitz and hyperscaling violating Lifshitz backgrounds is provided in the context of a generic bottom-up Einstein-Proca-Dilaton theory, and a systematic procedure for solving the radial Hamilton-Jacobi equation via a covariant expansion in eigenfunctions …
We give a definition of asymptotically locally Lifshitz spacetimes, with boundary data appropriate for a non-relativistic theory on the boundary. Solutions satisfying these boundary conditions are constructed in an asymptotic expansion. We identify the boundary data with sources for dual field theory operators, and give a prescription for calculating the one-point functions of the field theory operators (including the stress tensor) in the presence of arbitrary sources. The divergences in these one-point functions can be cancelled by holographic renormalization, adding counterterms which are l…
We study the Hawking radiation of the spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat black holes in the infrared modified Horava-Lifshitz gravity by applying the methods of covariant anomaly cancellation and effective action, as well as the approach of Damour-Ruffini-Sannan's. These black holes behave as the usual Schwarzschild ones of the general relativity when the radial distance is very large. We also extend the method of covariant anomaly cancellation to derive the Hawking temperature of the spherically symmetric, asymptotically AdS black holes that represent the analogues of the Schwarzschil…
We explore an effective supergravity action in the presence of a massless gauge field which contains the Gauss-Bonnet term as well as a dilaton field. We construct a new class of black brane solutions of this theory with the Lifshitz asymptotic by fixing the parameters of the model such that the asymptotic Lifshitz behavior can be supported. Then we construct the well-defined finite action through the use of the counterterm method. We also obtain two independent constants along the radial coordinate by combining the equations of motion. Calculations of these two constants at infinity through t…
The Romans type IIA supergravity allows fundamental strings to have explicit mass term at the tree level. We show that there exists a (F1,D2,D8) brane configuration which gives rise to $Lif_4^{(2)}\times {R}^1\times S^5$ vacua supported by the massive strings. The presence of D8-branes naturally excites massive fundamental strings. A compactification on circle relates these Lifshitz massive type-IIA background with the axion-flux $Lif_4^{(2)}\times {S}^1\times S^5$ vacua in ordinary type-IIB theory. The massive T-duality in eight dimensions further relates them to yet another $\widetilde{Lif}_…
Using complexity=action proposal we study the growth rate of holographic complexity for Lifshitz and hyperscaling violating geometries. We will consider both one and two sided black branes in an Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gravitational theory. We find that in either case Lloyd's bound is violated and the rate of growth of complexity saturates to a value which is greater than twice the mass of the corresponding black brane. This value reduces to the mass of the black brane in the isotropic case. We show that in two sided black brane the saturation happens from above while for one sided black bran…

We study asymptotically Lifshitz spacetimes and the constraints on flows between Lifshitz fixed points imposed by the null energy condition. In contrast with the relativistic holographic c-theorem, where the effective AdS radius, L, is monotonically decreasing in the IR, for Lifshitz backgrounds we find that both L and z may flow in either direction. We demonstrate this with several numerical examples in a phenomenological model with a massive gauge field coupled to a real scalar.
In order to allow the asymptotically flat, we consider Hořava-Lifshitz gravity theory with a soft violation of the detailed balance condition and obtain various solutions. In particular, we find that such theory coupled to a global monopole leads to a solution representing a space with deficit solid angle, which is well matched with genuine feature of GR.
Several classes of gravitational backgrounds in $3+1$ dimensions have been proposed as holographic duals to Lifshitz-like theories describing critical phenomena in $2+1$ dimensions with critical exponent $z\geq 1$. We numerically explore one such model, characterized by a temperature $T$ and chemical potential $μ$, and find how to embed these solutions into AdS for a range of values of $z$. We find no phase transition going from the $T\llμ$ to the $T\gg μ$ regimes, and find that the solutions smoothly interpolate between the Lifshitz-like behavior and the relativistic AdS-like behavior. Finall…
We obtain relaxation times for field theories with Lifshitz scaling and with holographic duals Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gravity theories. This is done by computing quasinormal modes of a bulk scalar field in the presence of Lifshitz black branes. We determine the relation between relaxation time and dynamical exponent z, for various values of boundary dimension d and operator scaling dimension. It is found that for d>z+1, at zero momenta, the modes are non-overdamped, whereas for d<=z+1 the system is always overdamped. For d=z+1 and zero momenta, we present analytical results.
