The Darboux Dressing Transformations developed in our previous paper (Multicomponent integrable wave equations I. Darboux-Dressing Transformation, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 40, 961-977, 2007) are here applied to construct soliton solutions for a class of boomeronic type equations. The vacuum (i.e. vanishing) solution and the generic plane wave solution are both dressed to yield one soliton solutions. The formulae are specialised to the particularly interesting case of the resonant interaction of three waves, a well-known model which is of boomeronic type. For this equation a novel solution which describes three locked dark pulses (simulton) is introduced.
In this paper, we discus the fascinating energy sharing collisions of multicomponent solitons in certain incoherently coupled and coherently coupled nonlinear Schrödinger type equations arising in the context of nonlinear optics.
In this paper, we study the formation of solitons, their propagation and collision behaviour in an integrable multicomponent (2+1)-dimensional long wave-short wave resonance interaction ($M$-LSRI) system. First, we briefly revisit our earlier results on the dynamics of bright solitons and demonstrate the fascinating energy exchange collision of bright solitons appearing in the short-wave components of the $M$-LSRI system. Then, we explicitly construct the exact one- and two- multicomponent dark soliton solutions of the $M$-LSRI system by using the Hirota's direct method and explore its propaga…
We derive a (2+1)-dimensional multicomponent long-wave$-$short-wave resonance interaction (LSRI) system as the evolution equation for propagation of $N$-dispersive waves in weak Kerr type nonlinear medium in the small amplitude limit. The mixed (bright-dark) type soliton solutions of a particular (2+1)-dimensional multicomponent LSRI system, deduced from the general multicomponent higher dimensional LSRI system, are obtained by applying the Hirota's bilinearization method. Particularly, we show that the solitons in the LSRI system with two short-wave components behave like scalar solitons. We …
We consider a general multicomponent (2+1)-dimensional long-wave--short-wave resonance interaction (LSRI) system with arbitrary nonlinearity coefficients, which describes the nonlinear resonance interaction of multiple short waves with a long-wave in two spatial dimensions. The general multicomponent LSRI system is shown to be integrable by performing the Painlevé analysis. Then we construct the exact bright multi-soliton solutions by applying the Hirota's bilinearization method and study the propagation and collision dynamics of bright solitons in detail. Particularly, we investigate the head…
We consider the multicomponent Yajima-Oikawa (YO) system and show that the two-component YO system can be derived in a physical setting of three-coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (3-CNLS) type system by the asymptotic reduction method. The derivation is further generalized to multicomponent case. This set of equations describes the dynamics of nonlinear resonant interaction between one-dimensional long-wave and multiple short-waves. The Painlevé analysis of the general multicomponent YO system shows that the underlying set of evolution equations is integrable for arbitrary nonlinearity coefficient…
The Darboux-Dressing Transformations are applied to the Lax pair associated to systems of coupled nonlinear wave equations in the case of boundary values which are appropriate to both bright and dark soliton solutions. The general formalism is set up and the relevant equations are explicitly solved. Several instances of multicomponent wave equations of applicative interest, such as vector nonlinear Schroedinger-type equations and three resonant wave equations are considered.
Bright plane soliton solutions of an integrable (2+1) dimensional ($n+1$)-wave system are obtained by applying Hirota's bilinearization method. First, the soliton solutions of a 3-wave system consisting of two short wave components and one long wave component are found and then the results are generalized to the corresponding integrable ($n+1$)-wave system with $n$ short waves and single long wave. It is shown that the solitons in the short wave components (say $S^{(1)}$ and $S^{(2)}$) can be amplified by merely reducing the pulse width of the long wave component (say L). The study on the coll…
Two multicomponent generalizations of the AKNS-type spectral problems associated with $sl(2,\mathbb{R})$ and $so(3,\mathbb{R})$ are introduced and the corresponding two hierarchies of generalized multicomponent AKNS-type soliton equations are presented by the standard procedure, respectively. By virtue of the trace identity, bi-Hamiltonian structures which lead to a common recursion operator are established for each of the two resulting soliton hierarchies. And thus the Liouville integrability is shown for all systems in each of the two new generalized soliton hierarchies, seperately.
We analyze the properties of the soliton solutions of a class of models describing one-dimensional BEC with spin F. We describe the minimal sets of scattering data which determine uniquely both the corresponding potential of the Lax operator and its scattering matrix. Next we give several reductions of these MNLS, derive their N-soliton solutions and analyze the soliton interactions. Finally we prove an important theorem proving that if the initial conditions satisfy the reduction then one gets a solution of the reduced MNLS.
We study soliton solutions for the Gross--Pitaevskii equation of the spinor Bose--Einstein condensates with hyperfine spin F=2 in one-dimension. Analyses are made in two ways: by assuming single-mode amplitudes and by generalizing Hirota's direct method for multi-components. We obtain one-solitons of single-peak type in the ferromagnetic, polar and cyclic states, respectively. Moreover, twin-peak type solitons both in the ferromagnetic and the polar state are found.
In this paper, we derive a general mixed (bright-dark) multi-soliton solution to a one-dimensional multicomponent Yajima-Oikawa (YO) system, i.e., the (M+1)-component YO system comprised of M-component short waves (SWs) and one-component long wave (LW) for all possible combinations of nonlinearity coefficients including positive, negative and mixed types. With the help of the KP-hierarchy reduction method, we firstly construct two types of general mixed N-soliton solution (two-bright-one-dark soliton and one-bright-two-dark one for SW components) to the (3+1)-component YO system in detail. The…
We present a hierarchy of discrete systems whose first members are the lattice modified Korteweg-de Vries equation, and the lattice modified Boussinesq equation. The N-th member in the hierarchy is an N-component system defined on an elementary plaquette in the 2-dimensional lattice. The system is multidimensionally consistent and a Lagrangian which respects this feature, i.e., which has the desirable closure property, is obtained.
We construct exact soliton solutions of integrable multicomponent nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations under general nonvanishing boundary conditions. Different components of the vector (or matrix) dependent variable can approach plane waves with different wavenumbers and frequencies at spatial infinity. We apply Bäcklund-Darboux transformations to the cubic NLS equations with a self-focusing nonlinearity, a self-defocusing nonlinearity or a mixed focusing-defocusing nonlinearity. Both bright-soliton solutions and dark-soliton solutions are obtained, depending on the signs of the nonlinear te…
Analytic-bilinear approach for construction and study of integrable hierarchies is discussed. Generalized multicomponent KP and 2D Toda lattice hierarchies are considered. This approach allows to represent generalized hierarchies of integrable equations in a condensed form of finite functional equations. Generalized hierarchy incorporates basic hierarchy, modified hierarchy, singularity manifold equation hierarchy and corresponding linear problems. Different levels of generalized hierarchy are connected via invariants of Combescure symmetry transformation. Resolution of functional equations al…
We construct a new series of multicomponent integrable PDE systems that contain as particular example (with appropriately chosen parameters) many famous integrable systems including KdV, coupled KdV, Harry Dym, coupled Harry Dym, Camassa-Holm, multicomponent Camassa-Holm, Kaup-Boussinesq systems. The series contains also integrable systems with no low-component analogues.
Novel soliton structures are constructed for the Fokas-Lenells equation. In so doing, and after discussing the stability of continuous waves, a multiple scales perturbation theory is used to reduce the equation to a Korteweg-de Vries system whose relative soliton solution gives rise to intricate (and rather unexpected) solutions to the original system. Both the focusing and defocusing equations are considered and it is found that dark solitons may exist in both cases while in the focusing case antidark solitons are also possible. These findings are quite surprising as the relative nonlinear Sc…
In this letter, the unique exact lump and topological soliton solutions of integrable (2+1) dimensional Kundu Mukherjee Naskar (KMN) equation are obtained. These solutions have an unusual property that they can get curved in the plane arbitrarily due to the presence of an arbitrary function of space(x) and time(t) in their analytic forms. Due to this special feature, the solutions can be used to model the bending of optical solitonic beam, different types of wave structures in real physical experimental conditions. This novel feature, which is a rare property for a constant coefficient complet…
We analyze initial-boundary value problems for an integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation formulated on the half-line. In particular, we investigate the so-called linearizable boundary conditions, which in this case are of Robin type. Furthermore, we use a particular solution to verify explicitly all the steps needed for the solution of a well-posed problem.
The transition from integrable to non-integrable highly-dispersive nonlinear models is investigated. The sine-Gordon and $ϕ^4$-equations with the additional fourth-order spatial and spatio-temporal derivatives, describing the higher dispersion, and with the terms originated from nonlinear interactions are studied. The exact static and moving topological kinks and soliton-complex solutions are obtained for a special choice of the equation parameters in the dispersive systems. The problem of spectra of linear excitations of the static kinks is solved completely for the case of the regularized eq…
We implement the dressing method for a novel integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. As an application, explicit formulas for the $N$-soliton solutions are derived. As a by-product of the analysis, we find a simplification of the formulas for the $N$-solitons of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation given by Huang and Chen.
Multi-component integrable generalizations of the Fokas-Lenells equation, associated with each irreducible Hermitian symmetric space are formulated. Description of the underlying structures associated to the integrability, such as the Lax representation and the bi-Hamiltonian formulation of the equations is provided. Two reductions are considered as well, one of which leads to a nonlocal integrable model. Examples with Hermitian symmetric spaces of all classical series of types A.III, BD.I, C.I and D.III are presented in details, as well as possibilities for further reductions in a general for…
A class of multi-component integrable systems associated to Novikov algebras, which interpolate between KdV and Camassa-Holm type equations, is obtained. The construction is based on the classification of low-dimensional Novikov algebras by Bai and Meng. These multi-component bi-Hamiltonian systems obtained by this construction may be interpreted as Euler equations on the centrally extended Lie algebras associated to the Novikov algebras. The related bilinear forms generating cocycles of first, second and third order are classified. Several examples, including known integrable equations, are p…
The adiabatic N-soliton train interactions for the scalar nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation and its perturbed versions are well studied. Here we briefly outline how they can be generalized for the higher NLS-type equations and for the multicomponent NLS equations. It is shown that in all these cases the complex Toda chain plays fundamental role.
We propose a systematic method to generalize the integrable Rosochatius deformations for finite dimensional integrable Hamiltonian systems to integrable Rosochatius deformations for infinite dimensional integrable equations. Infinite number of the integrable Rosochatius deformed higher-order constrained flows of some soliton hierarchies, which includes the generalized integrable H$\acute{e}$non-Heiles system, and the integrable Rosochatius deformations of the KdV hierarchy with self-consistent sources, of the AKNS hierarchy with self-consistent sources and of the mKdV hierarchy with self-consi…
An integrable generalization of the super Kaup-Newell(KN) isospectral problem is introduced and its corresponding generalized super KN soliton hierarchy are established based on a Lie super-algebra B(0,1) and super-trace identity in this paper. And the resulting super soliton hierarchy can be put into a super bi-Hamiltonian form. In addition, a generalized super KN soliton hierarchy with self-consistent sources is also presented.
We introduce an exactly integrable nonlinear model describing the dynamics of spinor solitons in space-dependent matrix gauge potentials of rather general types. The model is shown to be gauge equivalent to the integrable system of vector nonlinear Schrödinger equations known as the Manakov model. As an example we consider a self-attractive Bose-Einstein condensate with random spin-orbit coupling (SOC). If Zeeman splitting is also included, the system becomes nonintegrable. We illustrate this by considering the random walk of a soliton in a disordered SOC landscape. While at zero Zeeman splitt…
An integrable model possessing inhomogeneous ground states is proposed as an effective model of non-uniform quantum condensates such as supersolids and Fulde--Ferrell--Larkin--Ovchinnikov superfluids. The model is a higher-order analog of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We derive an $n$-soliton solution via the inverse scattering theory with elliptic-functional background, and reveal various kinds of soliton dynamics such as dark soliton billiards, dislocations, gray solitons, and envelope solitons. We also provide the exact bosonic and fermionic quasiparticle eigenstates and clarify their…
We study $(1+1)$-dimensional integrable soliton equations with time-dependent defects located at $x=c(t)$, where $c(t)$ is a function of class $C^1$. We define the defect condition as a Bäcklund transformation evaluated at $x=c(t)$ in space rather than over the full line. We show that such a defect condition does not spoil the integrability of the system. We also study soliton solutions that can meet the defect for the system. An interesting discovery is that the defect system admits peaked soliton solutions.
In this paper we investigate the one-dimensional parabolic-parabolic Patlak-Keller-Segel model of chemotaxis. For the case when the diffusion coefficient of chemical substance is equal to two, in terms of travelling wave variables the reduced system appears integrable and allows the analytical solution. We obtain the exact soliton solutions, one of which is exactly the one-soliton solution of the Korteweg-de Vries equation.
The soliton solution of the integrable coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) of Manakov type is investigated by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) scheme. We get the bright N-solitons solution by solving the integrable uncoupled NLS of Manakov type. We also find that there is an elastic collision of the bright N-solitons.
One usually expects localized solitons in integrable systems to interact trivially. There is an integrable (2+1)-dimensional chiral equation which admits multi-soliton solutions with trivial dynamics. This paper describes how to generate explicit solutions representing nontrivial soliton interactions: in particular, a head-on collision of two solitons resulting in $90^\circ$ scattering.
A new three-dimensional second-order nonlinear wave equation is introduced which passes the Painleve test for integrability and possesses KdV-type multisoliton solutions. Lax integrability of this equation remains unknown.
We find a transformation which relates a new third-order integrable nonlinear evolution equation, introduced recently by Qiao, with the well-known modified Korteweg - de Vries equation. Then we use this transformation to derive smooth soliton solutions of the new equation from the known rational and soliton solutions of the old one.
It is well known that the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation is a very important integrable equation. Ablowitz and Musslimani introduced and investigated an integrable nonlocal NLS equation through inverse scattering transform. Very recently, we proposed an integrable nonlocal modified Korteweg-de Vries equation (mKdV) which can also be found in a paper of Ablowitz and Musslimani. We have constructed the Darboux transformation and soliton solutions for the nonlocal mKdV equation. In this paper, we will investigate further the nonlocal mKdV equation. We will give its exact solutions including…
A theory for constructing integrable couplings of soliton equations is developed by using various perturbations around solutions of perturbed soliton equations being analytic with respect to a small perturbation parameter. Multi-scale perturbations can be taken and thus higher dimensional integrable couplings can be presented. The theory is applied to the KdV soliton hierarchy. Infinitely many integrable couplings are constructed for each soliton equation in the KdV hierarchy, which contain integrable couplings possessing quadruple Hamiltonian formulations and two classes of hereditary recursi…
We construct a Darboux transformation of a general $su(3)$-valued spin system called the $Γ$-spin system. Using this Darboux transformation we derive a recursive formula for the soliton solutions of this spin system. Then using these results we present explicit expressions for the 1-soliton solution of the coupled $su(2)$-valued spin systems, namely, of the coupled M-LIII equation.
We consider a class of multicomponent nonlinear Schrodinger equations (MNLS) related to the symmetric BD.I-type symmetric spaces. As important particular case of these MNLS we obtain the Kulish-Sklyanin model. Some new reductions and their effects on the soliton solutions are obtained by proper modifying the Zakahrov-Shabat dressing method.
A very natural construction of integrable extensions of soliton systems is presented. The extension is made on the level of evolution equations by a modification of the algebra of dynamical fields. The paper is motivated by recent works of Wen-Xiu Ma et al. (Comp. Math. Appl. 60 (2010) 2601, Appl. Math. Comp. 217 (2011) 7238), where new class of soliton systems, being nonlinear integrable couplings, was introduced. The general form of solutions of the considered class of coupled systems is described. Moreover, the decoupling procedure is derived, which is also applicable to several other coupl…
We propose a general scheme for separation of variables in the integrable Hamiltonian systems on orbits of the loop algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\Complex)\times \mathcal{P}(λ,λ^{-1})$. In particular, we illustrate the scheme by application to modified Korteweg--de Vries (MKdV), sin(sinh)-Gordon, nonlinear Schrödinger, and Heisenberg magnetic equations.
We derive a set of bilinear identities for the determinants of the matrices that have been used to construct the dark soliton solutions for various models. To give examples of the application of the obtained identities we present soliton solutions for the equations describing multidimensional quadrilateral lattices, Darboux equations and multidimensional multicomponent systems of the nonlinear Schrodinger type.
In this paper, we prove that the nonlocal complex modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation introduced by Ablowitz and Musslimani [Nonlinearity, 29, 915-946 (2016)] is gauge equivalent to a spin-like model. From the gauge equivalence, one can see that there exists significant difference between the nonlocal complex mKdV equation and the classical complex mKdV equation. Through constructing the Darboux transformation(DT) for nonlocal complex mKdV equation, a variety of exact solutions including dark soliton, W-type soliton, M-type soliton and periodic solutions are derived.
Scalar multidimensionally consistent quadrilateral lattice equations are studied. We explore a confluence between the superposition principle for solutions related by the Backlund transformation, and the method of solving a Riccati map by exploiting two kn own particular solutions. This leads to an expression for the N-soliton-type solutions of a generic equation within this class. As a particular instance we give an explicit N-soliton solution for the primary model, which is Adler's lattice equation (or Q4).
The two matrix spectral problems of Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (AKNS) and Kaup-Newell (KN) types associated with so(3,R) are generalized. The corresponding hierarchies of generalized soliton equations are derived by the standard procedure using the zero curvature formulation. Recursion operators and bi-Hamiltonian structures are explicitly constructed for the resulting two generalized soliton hierarchies of AKNS and KN types, which shows their Liouville integrability.
For each partition p of an integer N \geq 2, consisting of r parts, an integrable hierarchy of Lax type Hamiltonian PDE has been constructed recently by some of us. In the present paper we show that any tau-function of the p-reduced r-component KP hierarchy produces a solution of this integrable hierarchy. Along the way we provide an algorithm for the explicit construction of the generators of the corresponding classical W-algebra W(gl_N,p), and write down explicit formulas for evolution of these generators along the Hamiltonian flows.
We give a review of the systematic construction of hierarchies of soliton flows and integrable elliptic equations associated to a complex semi-simple Lie algebra and finite order automorphisms. For example, the non-linear Schrödinger equation, the n-wave equation, and the sigma-model are soliton flows; and the equation for harmonic maps from the plane to a compact Lie group, for primitive maps from the plane to a $k$-symmetric space, and constant mean curvature surfaces and isothermic surfaces in space forms are integrable elliptic systems. We also give a survey of (i) construction of solution…
We analyze a class of multicomponent nonlinear Schrodinger equations (MNLS) related to the symmetric BD.I-type symmetric spaces and their reductions. We briefly outline the direct and the inverse scattering method for the relevant Lax operators and the soliton solutions. We use the Zakharov-Shabat dressing method to obtain the two-soliton solution and analyze the soliton interactions of the MNLS equations and some of their reductions.
The general multi-soliton solution of the integrable coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) of Manakov type is investigated by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) scheme. We get the bright and dark multi-soliton solution using inverse scattering method of ZS scheme. Elastic and inelastic collision of N-solitons solution of the equation are also discussed.
In this letter, we construct new meshy soliton structures by using two concrete (2+1)-dimensional integrable systems. The explicit expressions based on corresponding Cole-Hopf type transformations are obtained. Constraint equation ft+\sum_{j=1}^{N} h_j(y)f_{jx} = 0 shows that these meshy soliton structures can be linear or parabolic. Interaction between meshy soliton structure and Lump structure are also revealed.
The soliton spectrum (massive and massless) of a family of integrable models with local U(1) and U(1)\otimes U(1) symmetries is studied. These models represent relevant integrable deformations of SL(2,R) \otimes U(1)^{n-1} - WZW and SL(2,R) \otimes SL(2,R)\otimes U(1)^{n-2} - WZW models. Their massless solitons appears as specific topological solutions of the U(1) (or U(1)\otimes U(1)) - CFTs. The nonconformal analog of the GKO-coset formula is derived and used in the construction of the composite massive solitons of the ungauged integrable models.
Recently proposed nonholonomic deformation of the KdV equation is solved through inverse scattering method by constructing AKNS-type Lax pair. Exact and explicit N-soliton solutions are found for the basic field and the deforming function showing an unusual accelerated (decelerated) motion. A two-fold integrable hierarchy is revealed, one with usual higher order dispersion and the other with novel higher nonholonomic deformations.
We present four examples of integrable partial differential equations (PDEs) of mathematical physics that---when linearized around a stationary soliton---exhibit scattering without reflection at {\it all} energies. Starting from the most well-known and the most empirically relevant phenomenon of the transparency of one-dimensional bright bosonic solitons to Bogoliubov excitations, we proceed to the sine-Gordon, Korteweg-de Vries, and Liouville's equation whose stationary solitons also support our assertion. The proposed connection between integrability and reflectionless scattering seems to sp…
We present a general scheme for constructing robust excitations (soliton-like) in non-integrable multicomponent systems. By robust, we mean localised excitations that propagate with almost constant velocity and which interact cleanly with little to no radiation. We achieve this via a reduction of these complex systems to more familiar effective chiral field-theories using perturbation techniques and the Fredholm alternative. As a specific platform, we consider the generalised multicomponent Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations (MNLS) with arbitrary interaction coefficients. This non-integrable syst…
New classes of exact multi-soliton solutions of KP-1 and KP-2 versions of Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation with integrable boundary condition $u_{y}\big|_{y=0}=0$ by the use of $\overline\partial$-dressing method of Zakharov and Manakov are constructed in the paper. General determinant formula in convenient form for such solutions is derived. It is shown how reality and boundary conditions for the field $u(x,y,t)$ in the framework of $\overline\partial$-dressing method can be satisfied exactly. Explicit examples of two-soliton solutions as nonlinear superpositions of two more simpler \,"deforme…
