New classes of exact multi-soliton solutions of KP-1 and KP-2 versions of Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation with integrable boundary condition $u_{y}\big|_{y=0}=0$ by the use of $\overline\partial$-dressing method of Zakharov and Manakov are constructed in the paper. General determinant formula in convenient form for such solutions is derived. It is shown how reality and boundary conditions for the field $u(x,y,t)$ in the framework of $\overline\partial$-dressing method can be satisfied exactly. Explicit examples of two-soliton solutions as nonlinear superpositions of two more simpler \,"deformed"\, one-solitons are presented as illustrations: the fulfillment of boundary condition leads to formation of bound state of two more simpler one-solitons, resonating eigenmodes of $u(x,y,t)$ in semi-plane $y\geq0$ as analogs of standing waves on the string with fixed end points.
We constructed the new classes of exact multi-lump solutions of KP-1 and KP-2 versions of KP equations with integrable boundary condition $u_{y}\big|_{y=0}=0$ by the use of $\overline\partial$-dressing method of Zakharov and Manakov and derived general determinant formula for such solutions. We demonstrated how reality and boundary conditions for the field $u$ in the framework of $\overline\partial$-dressing method can be exactly satisfied. Here we present explicit examples of two-lump solutions with integrable boundary as nonlinear superpositions of two more simpler "deformed" one-lump soluti…
We constructed new classes of exact multi-lump solutions of mKP-1,2 equations with integrable boundary condition $u(x,y,t)\big|_{y=0}=0$ by the use of $\overline\partial$-dressing method of Zakharov and Manakov. We exactly satisfied reality and boundary conditions for the field $u(x,y,t)$ using general determinant formula for multi-lump solutions. We illustrated new calculated classes by simple examples of two-lump solutions and demonstrated how fulfilment of integrable boundary condition $u\big|_{y=0}=0$ via special nonlinear superposition of several single lumps leads to formation of certain…
We represent the Fourier form of the dressing method, which is effective for construction of multidimensional integral-differential equations together with their solutions. Example of integrable (but non-physical) expansion of Intermediate Long Wave equation in (2+1)-dimensions is considered.
The 2+1-dimensional integrable generalization of Kaup-Kuperschmidt and Sawada-Kotera equations are studied by $\bar\partial$-dressing method of Zakharov and Manakov. The solutions with functional parameters and periodic solutions are constructed.
We derive a five-dimensional nonlinear first order matrix PDE which is a generalization of the completely integrable (2+1)-dimensional $N$-wave equation. Similar to the $\bar\partial$-problem, our algorithm is based on the linear integral equation of special form.
We proposed general scheme for construction of exact real periodical solutions of mKP-1 equation via Zakharov-Manakov $\overline{\partial}$-dressing method, derived convenient determinant formula for calculation of such solutions and demonstrated how reality and boundary conditions for the field $u(x,y,t)$ can be satisfied. We calculated the new classes of exact periodical solutions of mKP-1 equation: 1. the class of nonsingular one-periodic solutions or nonlinear plane monochromatic waves; 2. the class of two-periodic solutions without imposition of any boundary condition; 3. the class of two…
The quasi-classical limit of the scalar nonlocal dbar-problem is derived and a quasi-classical version of the dbar-dressing method is presented. Dispersionless KP, mKP and 2DTL hierarchies are discussed as illustrative examples. It is shown that the universal Whitham hierarchy it is nothing but the ring of symmetries for the quasi-classical dbar-problem. The reduction problem is discussed and, in particular, the d2DTL equation of B type is derived.
A discrete analogue of the dressing method is presented and used to derive integrable nonlinear evolution equations, including two infinite families of novel continuous and discrete coupled integrable systems of equations of nonlinear Schrodinger type. First, a demonstration is given of how discrete nonlinear integrable equations can be derived starting from their linear counterparts. Then, starting from two uncoupled, discrete one-directional linear wave equations, an appropriate matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem is constructed, and a discrete matrix nonlinear Schrodinger system of equations is …
In this paper we construct nonlinear partial differential equations in more than 3 independent variables, possessing a manifold of analytic solutions with high, but not full, dimensionality. For this reason we call them ``partially integrable''. Such a construction is achieved using a suitable modification of the classical dressing scheme, consisting in assuming that the kernel of the basic integral operator of the dressing formalism be nontrivial. This new hypothesis leads to the construction of: 1) a linear system of compatible spectral problems for the solution $U(λ;x)$ of the integral equa…
In this paper we construct a family of integrable reductions of the dressing chain, described in its Lotka-Volterra form. For each $k,n\in\mathbb N$ with $n\geqslant 2k+1$ we obtain a Lotka-Volterra system $\hbox{LV}_b(n,k)$ on $\mathbb R^n$ which is a deformation of the Lotka-Volterra system $\hbox{LV}(n,k)$, which is itself an integrable reduction of the $2m+1$-dimensional Bogoyavlenskij-Itoh system $\hbox{LV}(2m+1,m)$, where $m=n-k-1$. We prove that $\hbox{LV}_b(n,k)$ is both Liouville and non-commutative integrable, with rational first integrals which are deformations of the rational first…
In this paper we formulate the nonlocal dbar problem dressing method of Manakov and Zakharov [28, 29, 27] for the 4 scaling classes of the 1+1 dimensional Kaup--Broer system [7, 13]. The method for the 1+1 dimensional Kaup--Broer systems are reductions of a method for a complex valued 2+1 dimensional completely integrable partial differential equation first introduced in [23]. This method allows computation of solutions to all cases of the Kaup--Broer system. We then consider the case of non-capillary waves with usual gravitational forcing, and use the dressing method to compute N-soliton solu…
We implement the dressing method for a novel integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. As an application, explicit formulas for the $N$-soliton solutions are derived. As a by-product of the analysis, we find a simplification of the formulas for the $N$-solitons of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation given by Huang and Chen.
The Darboux-Dressing Transformations are applied to the Lax pair associated to systems of coupled nonlinear wave equations in the case of boundary values which are appropriate to both bright and dark soliton solutions. The general formalism is set up and the relevant equations are explicitly solved. Several instances of multicomponent wave equations of applicative interest, such as vector nonlinear Schroedinger-type equations and three resonant wave equations are considered.
The graded affine Lie algebras provide a framework in which the dressing method is applied to the generic type of integrable models. The dressing formalism is used to develop a unified approach to various symmetry flows encountered among the integrable hierarchies and to describe related conservation laws.
The classes of exact multi line soliton, periodic solutions and solutions with functional parameters, with constant asymptotic values at infinity u|_{xi^2+eta^2->infty}->-epsilon, for the hyperbolic and elliptic versions of the Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov (NVN) equation via dibar-dressing method of Zakharov and Manakov were constructed. At fixed time these solutions are exactly solvable potentials correspondingly for one-dimensional perturbed telegraph and two-dimensional stationary Schroedinger equations. Physical meaning of stationary states of quantum particle in exact one line and two line sol…
Recently proposed quasi-classical DBAR-dressing method provides a systematic approach to study the weakly dispersive limit of integrable systems. We apply the quasi-classical DBAR-dressing method to describe dispersive corrections of any order. We show how calculate the DBAR problems at any order for a rather general class of integrable systems, presenting explicit results for the KP hierarchy case. We demonstrate the stability of the method at each order. We construct an infinite set of commuting flows at first order which allow a description analogous to the zero order (purely dispersionless…

Two types of integrable coupled nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equations are derived by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) dressing method. The Lax pairs for the coupled NLS equations are also investigated using the ZS dressing method. These give new types of the integrable coupled NLS equations with certain additional terms. Then, the exact solutions of the new types are obtained. We find that the solution of these new types do not always produce a soliton solution even they are the kind of the integrable NLS equations.
The quasi-classical $\bar{\partial}$-dressing method is used to derive compact generating equations for dispersionless hierarchies. Dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) and two-dimensional Toda lattice (2DTL) hierarchies are considered as illustrative examples.
The solutions of a large class of hierarchies of zero-curvature equations that includes Toda and KdV type hierarchies are investigated. All these hierarchies are constructed from affine (twisted or untwisted) Kac-Moody algebras~$\ggg$. Their common feature is that they have some special ``vacuum solutions'' corresponding to Lax operators lying in some abelian (up to the central term) subalgebra of~$\ggg$; in some interesting cases such subalgebras are of the Heisenberg type. Using the dressing transformation method, the solutions in the orbit of those vacuum solutions are constructed in a unif…
We review some of the fundamental notions associated to the theory of solitons. More precisely, we focus on the issue of conservation laws via the existence of the Lax pair and also on methods that provide solutions to partial or ordinary differential equations that are associated to discrete or continuous integrable systems. The Riccati equation associated to a given continuous integrable system is also solved and hence suitable conserved quantities are derived. The notion of the Darboux-Backlund transformation is introduced and employed in order to obtain soliton solutions for specific examp…
Dressing technique is used to construct commuting Lax operators which provide an integrable (canonical) structure behind Witten--Dijkgraaf--Verlinde--Verlinde equations. The commuting flows are related to the isomonodromic flows. Examples of the canonical integrable structure are given in two- and three-dimensional cases. The three-dimensional example is associated with the rational Landau-Ginzburg potentials.
This paper develops a modification of the dressing method based on the inhomogeneous linear integral equation with integral operator having nonempty kernel. Method allows one to construct the systems of multidimensional Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) having the differential polynomial forms in any dimension n. Associated solution space is not full, although it is parametrized by a certain number of arbitrary functions of (n-1)-variables. We consider 4-dimensional generalization of the classical (2+1)-dimensional S-integrable N-wave equation as an example.
Based on the theory of integrable boundary conditions (BCs) developed by Sklyanin, we provide a direct method for computing soliton solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation on the half-line. The integrable BCs at the origin are represented by constraints of the Lax pair, and our method lies on dressing the Lax pair by preserving those constraints in the Darboux-dressing process. The method is applied to two classes of solutions: solitons vanishing at infinity and self-modulated solitons on a constant background. Half-line solitons in both cases are explicitly computed. In…
The Darboux Dressing Transformations developed in our previous paper (Multicomponent integrable wave equations I. Darboux-Dressing Transformation, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 40, 961-977, 2007) are here applied to construct soliton solutions for a class of boomeronic type equations. The vacuum (i.e. vanishing) solution and the generic plane wave solution are both dressed to yield one soliton solutions. The formulae are specialised to the particularly interesting case of the resonant interaction of three waves, a well-known model which is of boomeronic type. For this equation a novel solution whic…
We transfer the scheme of constructing differential reductions, developed recently for the case of the Manakov-Santini hierarchy, to the general multidimensional case. We consider in more detail the four-dimensional case, connected with the second heavenly equation and its generalization proposed by Dunajski. We give a characterization of differential reductions in terms of the Lax-Sato equations as well as in the framework of the dressing method based on nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert problem.
The discrete symmetry's dressing chains of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) and Davey-Stewartson equations (DS) are consider. The modified NLS (mNLS) equation and the modified DS (mDS) equations are obtained. The explicitly reversible Backlund auto-transformations for the mNLS and mDS equations are constructed. We demonstrate discrete symmetry's conjugate chains of the KP and DS models. The two-dimensional generalization of the P4 equation are obtained.
We present a new and relatively elementary method for studying the solution of the initial-value problem for dispersive linear and integrable equations in the large-$t$ limit, based on a generalization of steepest descent techniques for Riemann-Hilbert problems to the setting of $\overline{\partial}$-problems. Expanding upon prior work of the first two authors, we develop the method in detail for the linear and defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equations, and show how in the case of the latter it gives sharper asymptotics than previously known under essentially minimal regularity assumptions on…
A new nonlinear 3+1 dimensional evolution equation admitting the Lax pair is presented. In the case of one spatial dimension, the equation reduces to the Burgers equation. A method of construction of exact solutions, based on a class of discrete symmetries of the former equation is developed. These symmetries reduce to the Cole-Hopf transformation in one-dimensional limit. Some exact solutions are analyzed, in the physical context of spatial dissipative structures and shock wave dressing.
A class of multidimensional integrable hierarchies connected with commutation of general (unreduced) (N+1)-dimensional vector fields containing derivative over spectral variable is considered. They are represented in the form of generating equation, as well as in the Lax-Sato form. A dressing scheme based on nonlinear vector Riemann problem is presented for this class. The hierarchies connected with Manakov-Santini equation and Dunajski system are considered as illustrative examples.
In this short note we discuss a new formula for solving the nonlocal $\overline{\partial}$-problem, and discuss application to the Manakov--Zakharov dressing method. We then explicitly apply this formula to solving the complex (2+1)D Kadomtsev--Petviashvili equation and complex (2+1)D completely integrable generalization of the (2+1)D Kaup--Broer (or Kaup--Boussinesq) system. We will also discuss how real (1+1)D solutions are expressed using this formalism. It is simple to express the formalism for finite gap primitive solutions from [10], [8] using the formalism of this note. We also discuss …
We apply a version of the dressing method to a system of four dimensional nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), which contains both Pohlmeyer equation (i.e. nonlinear PDE integrable by the Inverse Spectral Transform Method) and nonlinear matrix PDE integrable by the method of characteristics as particular reductions. Some other reductions are suggested.
We propose an approach to the nonvanishing boundary value problem for integrable hierarchies based on the dressing method. Then we apply the method to the AKNS hierarchy. The solutions are found by introducing appropriate vertex operators that takes into account the boundary conditions.
We consistently develop a recently proposed scheme of matrix extension of dispersionless integrable systems for the general case of multidimensional hierarchies, concentrating on the case of dimension $d\geqslant 4$. We present extended Lax pairs, Lax-Sato equations, matrix equations on the background of vector fields and the dressing scheme. Reductions, construction of solutions and connections to geometry are discussed. We consider separately a case of Abelian extension, for which the Riemann-Hilbert equations of the dressing scheme are explicitly solvable and give an analogue of Penrose for…
A general scheme is proposed for introduction of lattice and q-difference variables to integrable hierarchies in frame of $\bar{\partial}$-dressing method . Using this scheme, lattice and q-difference Darboux-Zakharov-Manakov systems of equations are derived. Darboux, Bäcklund and Combescure transformations and exact solutions for these systems are studied.
A linearizable version of multidimensional system of $n$-wave type nonlinear PDEs is proposed. This system is derived using the spectral representation of its solution via the procedure similar to the dressing method for the ISTM-integrable nonlinear PDEs. The proposed system is shown to be completely integrable, particular solution is represented.
An integrable structure behind Witten--Dijkgraaf--Verlinde--Verlinde (WDVV) equations is identified with reduction of a Riemann-Hilbert problem for a homogeneous GL(N, C) loop group. Reduction requires the dressing matrices to be fixed points of a loop group automorphism of order two resulting in a sub-hierarchy of gl(N,C) hierarchy containing only odd symmetry flows. The model possesses Virasoro symmetry and imposing Virasoro constraints ensures homogeneity property of the Darboux-Egoroff structure. Dressing matrices of the reduced model provide solutions of the WDVV equations.
The new examples are found of the constraints which link the 1+2-dimensional and multifield integrable equations and lattices. The vector and matrix generalizations of the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the Ablowitz-Ladik lattice are considered among the other multifield models. It is demonstrated that using of the symmetries belonging to the hierarchies of these equations leads, in particular, to the KP equation and twodimensional analogs of the dressing chain, Toda lattice and dispersive long waves equations. In these examples the multifield equation and its symmetry have meaning of the …
Analogues of the KP and the Toda lattice hierarchy called dispersionless KP and Toda hierarchy are studied. Dressing operations in the dispersionless hierarchies are introduced as a canonical transformation, quantization of which is dressing operators of the ordinary KP and Toda hierarchy. An alternative construction of general solutions of the ordinary KP and Toda hierarchy is given as twistor construction which is quatization of the similar construction of solutions of dispersionless hierarchies. These results as well as those obtained in previous papers are presented with proofs and necessa…
We propose a method for construction of Darboux transformations, which is a new development of the dressing method for Lax operators invariant under a reduction group. We apply the method to the vector sine-Gordon equation and derive its Bäcklund transformations. We show that there is a new Lax operator canonically associated with our Darboux transformation resulting an evolutionary differential-difference system on a sphere. The latter is a generalised symmetry for the chain of Bäcklund transformations. Using the re-factorisation approach and the Bianchi permutability of the Darboux transform…
A class of nonlinear problems on the plane, described by nonlinear inhomogeneous $\bar{\partial}$-equations, is considered. It is shown that the corresponding dynamics, generated by deformations of inhomogeneous terms (sources) is described by Hamilton-Jacobi type equations associated with hierarchies of dispersionless integrable systems. These hierarchies are constructed by applying the quasiclassical $\bar{\partial}$-dressing method.
We discuss some algebraic aspects of the integrable vector non-linear Schrödinger hierarchies (GNLS$_{r}$). These are hierarchies of zero-curvature equations constructed from affine Kac-Moody algebras $\hat{sl}_{r+1}$. Using the dressing transformation method and the tau-function formalism, we construct the N-soliton solutions of the GNLS$_{r}$ systems. The explicit matrix elements in the case of GNLS$_{1}$ are computed using level one vertex operator representations.
We show that matrix $Q\times Q$ Self-dual type $S$-integrable Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) possess a family of lower-dimensional reductions represented by the matrix $ Q \times n_0 Q$ quasilinear first order PDEs solved in \cite{SZ1} by the method of characteristics. In turn, these PDEs admit two types of available particular solutions: (a) explicit solutions and (b) solutions described implicitly by a system of non-differential equations. The later solutions, in particular, exhibit the wave profile breaking. Only first type of solutions is available for (1+1)-dimensional nonlinear $S…
A multi-component semi-discrete nonlinear integrable system associated with the relevant third-order auxiliary linear problem is claimed to be the prototype system for several reduced integrable systems formulated in terms of true dynamical field variables. The main conservation laws related to the prototype system are found in the framework of generalized recurrent approach. The two-fold Darboux-Bäcklund dressing technique as applied to the integration of prototype system is developed in details. The novel reduced complex-valued nonlinear integrable system embracing three coupled dynamical su…
We have recently solved the inverse spectral problem for one-parameter families of vector fields, and used this result to construct the formal solution of the Cauchy problem for a class of integrable nonlinear partial differential equations in multidimensions, including the second heavenly equation of Plebanski and the dispersionless Kadomtsev - Petviashvili (dKP) equation, arising as commutation of vector fields. In this paper we make use of the above theory i) to construct the nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert dressing for the so-called two dimensional dispersionless Toda equation $(exp(ϕ))_{tt}=ϕ_{…
We construct multi-soliton solutions of the n-component vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the half-line subject to two classes of integrable boundary conditions (BCs): the homogeneous Robin BCs and the mixed Neumann/Dirichlet BCs. The construction is based on the approach of dressing the integrable BCs: soliton solutions are generated in preserving the integrable BCs at each step of the Darboux-dressing process. Under the Robin BCs, examples, including boundary-bound solitons, are explicitly derived; under the mixed Neumann/Dirichlet BCs, the boundary can act as a polarizer that tunes d…
We consider quadratic bundles related to Hermitian symmetric spaces of the type SU(m+n)/S(U(m)x U(n)). The simplest representative of the corresponding integrable hierarchy is given by a multi-component Kaup-Newell derivative nonlinear Schroedinger equation which serves as a motivational example for our general considerations. We extensively discuss how one can apply Zakharov-Shabat's dressing procedure to derive reflectionless potentials obeying zero boundary conditions. Those could be used for one to construct fast decaying solutions to any nonlinear equation belonging to the same hierarchy.…
This article concerns the dressing method for solving of multidimensional nonlinear Partial Differential Equations. In particular, we join hierarchy of matrix Burgers type equation with hierarchies of equations integrable by the Inverse Spectral Transform (IST). Example of resonance interaction of wave packets in (3+1)-dimensions is given.
We study the negative flows of the hierarchy of the integrable Heisenberg Ferromagnet model and their soliton solutions. The first negative flow is related to the so-called short pulse equation. We provide a framework which generates Lax pairs for the other members of the hierarchy. The Inverse scattering, based on the dressing method is illustrated with the derivation of the one-soliton solution.
It is shown that the geometrical optics limit of the Maxwell equations for certain nonlinear media with slow variation along one axis and particular dependence of dielectric constant on the frequency and fields gives rise to the dispersionless Veselov-Novikov equation for refractive index. It is demonstrated that the last one is amenable to the quasiclassical DBAR-dressing method. A connection is noted between geometrical optics phenomena under consideration and quasiconformal mappings on the plane.
Integrable hierarchies associated with the singular sector of the KP hierarchy, or equivalently, with $\dbar$-operators of non-zero index are studied. They arise as the restriction of the standard KP hierarchy to submanifols of finite codimension in the space of independent variables. For higher $\dbar$-index these hierarchies represent themselves families of multidimensional equations with multidimensional constraints. The $\dbar$-dressing method is used to construct these hierarchies. Hidden KdV, Boussinesq and hidden Gelfand-Dikii hierarchies are considered too.
We derive a dispersionless integrable system describing a local form of a general three-dimensional Einstein-Weyl geometry with an Euclidean (positive) signature, construct its matrix extension and demonstrate that it leads to the Bogomolny equations for a non-abelian monopole on an Einstein-Weyl geometry background. The corresponding dispersionless integrable hierarchy, its matrix extension and the dressing scheme are also considered.
We point out that a common feature of integrable hierarchies presenting soliton solutions is the existence of some special ``vacuum solutions'' such that the Lax operators evaluated on them, lie in some abelian subalgebra of the associated Kac-Moody algebra. The soliton solutions are constructed out of those ``vacuum solitons'' by the dressing transformation procedure.
We show that reductions of KP hierarchies related to the loop algebra of $SL_n$ with homogeneous gradation give solutions of the Darboux-Egoroff system of PDE's. Using explicit dressing matrices of the Riemann-Hilbert problem generalized to include a set of commuting additional symmetries, we construct solutions of the Witten--Dijkgraaf--E. Verlinde--H. Verlinde equations.
Geometrical optics limit of the Maxwell equations for nonlinear media with the Cole-Cole dependence of dielectric function and magnetic permeability on the frequency is considered. It is shown that for media with slow variation along one axis such a limit gives rise to the dispersionless Veselov-Novikov equation for the refractive index. It is demonstrated that the Veselov-Novikov hierarchy is amenable to the quasiclassical DBAR-dressing method. Under more specific requirements for the media, one gets the dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. Geometrical optics interpretation of some…
E. Cartan proved that conformally flat hypersurfaces in S^{n+1} for n>3 have at most two distinct principal curvatures and locally envelop a one-parameter family of (n-1)-spheres. We prove that the Gauss-Codazzi equation for conformally flat hypersurfaces in S^4 is a soliton equation, and use a dressing action from soliton theory to construct geometric Ribaucour transforms of these hypersurfaces. We describe the moduli of these hypersurfaces in S^4 and their loop group symmetries. We also generalise these results to conformally flat n-immersions in (2n-2)-spheres with flat normal bundle and co…
