Adapting Mourre's commutator method to the dissipative setting, we prove a limiting absorption principle for a class of abstract dissipative operators. A consequence is the resolvent estimates for the high frequency Helmholtz equation when trapped trajectories meet the set where the imaginary part of the potential is non-zero. We also give the resolvent estimates in Besov spaces.
We prove an $L^p$-version of the limiting absoprtion principle for a class of periodic elliptic differential operators of second order. The result is applied to the construction of nontrivial solutions of nonlinear Helmholtz equations with periodic coefficient functions.
In this work we investigate the L^p-L^q-mapping properties of the resolvent associated with the time-harmonic isotropic Maxwell operator. As spectral parameters close to the spectrum are also covered by our analysis, we obtain an L^p-L^q-type Limiting Absorption Principle for this operator. Our analysis relies on new results for Helmholtz systems with zero order non-Hermitian perturbations. Moreover, we provide an improved version of the Limiting Absorption Principle for Hermitian (self-adjoint) Helmholtz systems.
We consider the Helmholtz equation $-Δu+V \, u - λ\, u = f $ on $\mathbb{R}^n$ where the potential $V:\mathbb{R}^n\to\mathbb{R}$ is constant on each of the half-spaces $\mathbb{R}^{n-1}\times (-\infty,0)$ and $\mathbb{R}^{n-1}\times (0,\infty)$. We prove an $L^p-L^q$-Limiting Absorption Principle for frequencies $λ>\max \, V$ with the aid of Fourier Restriction Theory and derive the existence of nontrivial solutions of linear and nonlinear Helmholtz equations.
We prove a limiting absorption principle for a generalized Helmholtz equation on an exterior domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions \begin{equation*} (L+λ)v=f, \qquad λ\in \mathbb{R} \end{equation*} under a Sommerfeld radiation condition at infinity. The operator $L$ is a second order elliptic operator with variable coefficients, the principal part is a small, long range perturbation of $-Δ$, while lower order terms can be singular and large. The main tool is a sharp uniform resolvent estimate, which has independent applications to the problem of embedded eigenvalues and to smoothing estima…
We obtain uncountably many solutions of nonlinear Helmholtz and curl-curl equations on the entire space using a fixed point approach. As an auxiliary tool a Limiting Absorption Principle for the curl-curl operator is proved.
The double-layer potential plays an important role in solving boundary value problems for elliptic equations. All the fundamental solutions of the generalized bi-axially symmetric Helmholtz equation were known, and only for the first one was constructed the theory of potential. Here, in this paper, we aim at constructing theory of double-layer potentials corresponding to the next fundamental solution. By using some properties of one of Appell's hypergeometric functions in two variables, we prove limiting theorems and derive integral equations concerning a denseness of double-layer potentials.
The double-layer potential plays an important role in solving boundary value problems for elliptic equations, and in the study of which for a certain equation, the properties of the fundamental solutions of the given equation are used. All the fundamental solutions of the generalized bi-axially symmetric Helmholtz equation were known, and only for the first one was constructed the theory of potential. Here, in this paper, we aim at constructing theory of double-layer potentials corresponding to the third fundamental solution. By using some properties of one of Appell's hypergeometric functions…
In this paper, we study nonlinear Helmholtz equations (NLH) $-Δ_{\mathbb{H}^N} u - \frac{(N-1)^2}{4} u -λ^2 u = Γ|u|^{p-2}u$ in $\mathbb{H}^N$, $N\geq 2$ where $Δ_{\mathbb{H}^N}$ denotes the Laplace-Beltrami operator in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^N$ and $Γ\in L^\infty(\mathbb{H}^N)$ is chosen suitably. Using fixed point and variational techniques, we find nontrivial solutions to (NLH) for all $λ>0$ and $p>2$. The oscillatory behaviour and decay rates of radial solutions is analyzed, with possible extensions to Cartan-Hadamard manifolds and Damek-Ricci spaces. Our results rely on a new Li…
We examine the two-dimensional Euler equations including the local energy (in)equality as a differential inclusion and show that the associated relaxation essentially reduces to the known relaxation for the Euler equations considered without local energy (im)balance. Concerning bounded solutions we provide a sufficient criterion for a globally dissipative subsolution to induce infinitely many globally dissipative solutions having the same initial data, pressure and dissipation measure as the subsolution. The criterion can easily be verified in the case of a flat vortex sheet giving rise to the…
We consider the scalar Helmholtz equation with variable, discontinuous coefficients, modelling transmission of acoustic waves through an anisotropic penetrable obstacle. We first prove a well-posedness result and a frequency-explicit bound on the solution operator, with both valid for sufficiently-large frequency and for a class of coefficients that satisfy certain monotonicity conditions in one spatial direction, and are only assumed to be bounded (i.e., $L^\infty$) in the other spatial directions. This class of coefficients therefore includes coefficients modelling transmission by penetrable…

We prove that if the local second-order structure function exponents in the inertial range remain positive uniformly in viscosity, then any spacetime $L^2$ weak limit of Leray--Hopf weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations on any bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$, $d= 2,3$ is a weak solution of the Euler equations. This holds for both no-slip and Navier-friction conditions with viscosity-dependent slip length. The result allows for the emergence of non-unique, possibly dissipative, limiting weak solutions of the Euler equations.
