We prove that for q not a nontrivial root of unity any symmetric invariant 2-cocycle for a completion of Uq(g) is the coboundary of a central element. Equivalently, a Drinfeld twist relating the coproducts on completions of Uq(g) and U(g) is unique up to coboundary of a central element. As an application we show that the spectral triple we defined in an earlier paper for the q-deformation of a simply connected semisimple compact Lie group G does not depend on any choices up to unitary equivalence.
We consider the 2-cocycle deformation of algebras graded by discrete groups. The action of the Maurer-Cartan form on cyclic cohomology is shown to be cohomologous to the cup product action of the group cocycle. This allows us to compute the monodromy of the Gauss-Manin connection in the strict deformation setting.
We show that all finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with the same diagram in the classification scheme of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider are cocycle deformations of each other. This is done by giving first a suitable characterization of such Hopf algebras, which allows for the application of results by Masuoka about Morita-Takeuchi equivalence and by Schauenburg about Hopf Galois extensions. We also outline a method to describe the deforming cocycles involved using the exponential map and its q-analogue.
It is proved that the (volume and orientation-preserving) quantum isometry group of a spectral triple obtained by deformation by some dual unitary 2-cocycle is isomorphic with a similar twist-deformation of the quantum isometry group of the original (undeformed) spectral triple. This result generalizes similar work by Bhowmick and Goswami for Rieffel-deformed spectral triples in [Comm. Math. Phys. 285 (2009), 421-444, arXiv:0707.2648].
Let $H$ be a Hopf algebra. Any finite-dimensional lifting of $V\in {}^{H}_{H}\mathcal{YD}$ arising as a cocycle deformation of $A=\mathfrak{B}(V)\#H$ defines a twist in the Hopf algebra $A^*$, via dualization. We follow this recipe to write down explicit examples and show that it extends known techniques for defining twists. We also contribute with a detailed survey about twists in braided categories.
For a given finite dimensional Hopf algebra $H$ we describe the set of all equivalence classes of cocycle deformations of $H$ as an affine variety, using methods of geometric invariant theory. We show how our results specialize to the Universal Coefficients Theorem in the case of a group algebra, and we also give examples from other families of Hopf algebras, including dual group algebras and Bosonizations of Nichols algebras. In particular, we use the methods developed here to classify the cocycle deformations of a dual pointed Hopf algebra associated to the symmetric group on three letters. …
We develop a strategy to compute all liftings of a Nichols algebra over a finite dimensional cosemisimple Hopf algebra. We produce them as cocycle deformations of the bosonization of these two. In parallel, we study the shape of any such lifting.
We introduce a method to construct explicitly multiplicative 2-cocycles for bosonizations of Nichols algebras B(V) over Hopf algebras H. These cocycles arise as liftings of H-invariant linear functionals on V tensor V and give a close formula to deform braided commutator-type relations. Using this construction, we show that all known finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras over the dihedral groups D_m with m=4t > 11, over the symmetric group S_3 and some families over S_4 are cocycle deformations of bosonizations of Nichols algebras.
Let $H$ be a Hopf algebra over a commutative ring $k$ with unity and $σ:H\otimes H\longrightarrow k$ be a cocycle on $H$. In this paper, we show that the Yetter-Drinfeld module category of the cocycle deformation Hopf algebra $H^σ$ is equivalent to the Yetter-Drinfeld module category of $H$. As a result of the equivalence, the "quantum Brauer" group BQ$(k,H)$ is isomorphic to BQ$(k,H^σ)$. Moreover, the group $\Gal(\HR)$ constructed in \cite{Z} is studied under a cocycle deformation.
For an arbitrary identity L=R between compositions of maps L and R on tensors of vector spaces V, a general construction of a 2-cocycle condition is given. These 2-cocycles correspond to those obtained in deformation theories of algebras. The construction is applied to a canceling pairings and copairings, with explicit examples with calculations. Relations to the Kauffman bracket and knot invariants are discussed.
Let $G$ be a finite group and let $π: G \to G'$ be a surjective group homomorphism. Consider the cocycle deformation $L = H^σ$ of the Hopf algebra $H = k^G$ of $k$-valued linear functions on $G$, with respect to some convolution invertible 2-cocycle $σ$. The (normal) Hopf subalgebra $k^{G'} \subseteq k^G$ corresponds to a Hopf subalgebra $L' \subseteq L$. Our main result is an explicit necessary and sufficient condition for the normality of $L'$ in $L$.
We show that all finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with the same diagram in the classification scheme of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider are cocycle deformations of each other. This is done by giving first a suitable characterization of such Hopf algebras, which allows for the application of a result of Masuoka about Morita-Takeuchi equivalence and of Schauenburg about Hopf Galois extensions. The "infinitesimal" part of the deforming cocycle and of the deformation determine the deformed multiplication and can be described explicitly in terms of Hochschild cohomology. Applications to, and …
Let $p$ and $q$ be distinct prime numbers. We study the Galois objects and cocycle deformations of the noncommutative, noncocommutative, semisimple Hopf algebras of odd dimension $p^3$ and of dimension $pq^2$. We obtain that the $p+1$ non-isomorphic self-dual semisimple Hopf algebras of dimension $p^3$ classified by Masuoka have no non-trivial cocycle deformations, extending his previous results for the 8-dimensional Kac-Paljutkin Hopf algebra. This is done as a consequence of the classification of categorical Morita equivalence classes among semisimple Hopf algebras of odd dimension $p^3$, es…
We describe quantum groups given by multiparametric deformations of enveloping algebras of Kac-Moody algebras as a family of pointed Hopf algebras introduced by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider associated to a generalized Cartan matrix. We show that under some assumptions, these Hopf algebras depend only on one parameter on each connected component of the Dynkin diagram, up to a cocycle deformation. In particular, we obtain in this way a known result of Hu, Pei and Rosso.
We construct a nontrivial cyclic cocycle on the Weyl algebra of a symplectic vector space. Using this cyclic cocycle we construct an explicit, local, quasi-isomorphism from the complex of differential forms on a symplectic manifold to the complex of cyclic cochains of any formal deformation quantization thereof. We give a new proof of Nest-Tsygan's algebraic higher index theorem by computing the pairing between such cyclic cocycles and the $K$-theory of the formal deformation quantization. Furthermore, we extend this approach to derive an algebraic higher index theorem on a symplectic orbifold…
By using cocycle deformation, we construct a certain class of Hopf algebras, containing the quantized enveloping algebras and their analogues, from what we call pre-Nichols algebras. Our construction generalizes in some sense the known construction by (generalized) quantum doubles, but unlike in the known situation, it saves us from difficulties in checking complicated defining relations.
We classify finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with abelian coradical, up to isomorphism, and show that they are cocycle deformations of the associated graded Hopf algebra. More generally, for any braided vector space of diagonal type $V$ with a principal realization in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules of a cosemisimple Hopf algebra $H$ and such that the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B}(V)$ is finite-dimensional, thus presented by a finite set $\mathcal G$ of relations, we define a family of Hopf algebras $\mathfrak{u}(\boldsymbolλ)$, $\boldsymbolλ\in \Bbbk^{\mathcal G}$, which are c…
Let $H$ be a Hopf algebra over a field $K$ of characteristic $0$ and let $A$ be a bialgebra or Hopf algebra such that $H$ is isomorphic to a sub-Hopf algebra of $A$ and there is an $H$-bilinear coalgebra projection $π$ from $A$ to $H$ which splits the inclusion. Then $A \cong R \#_ξH$ where $R$ is the pre-bialgebra of coinvariants. In this paper we study the deformations of $A$ by an $H$-bilinear cocycle. If $γ$ is a cocycle for $A$, then $γ$ can be restricted to a cocycle $γ_R$ for $R$, and $A^γ\cong R^{γ_R} \#_{ξ_γ} H$. As examples, we consider liftings of $\mathcal{B}(V) \# K[Γ]$ where $Γ$ …
Let $A$ be a Hopf algebra over a field $K$ of characteristic 0 and suppose there is a coalgebra projection $π$ from $A$ to a sub-Hopf algebra $H$ that splits the inclusion. If the projection is $H$-bilinear, then $A$ is isomorphic to a biproduct $R #_ξH$ where $(R,ξ)$ is called a pre-bialgebra with cocycle in the category $_{H}^{H}\mathcal{YD}$. The cocycle $ξ$ maps $R \otimes R$ to $H$. Examples of this situation include the liftings of pointed Hopf algebras with abelian group of points $Γ$ as classified by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider [AS1]. One asks when such an $A$ can be twisted by a coc…
We present a framework for the computation of the Hopf 2-cocycles involved in the deformations of Nichols algebras over semisimple Hopf algebras. We write down a recurrence formula and investigate the extent of the connection with invariant Hochschild cohomology in terms of exponentials. As an example, we present detailed computations leading to the explicit description of the Hopf 2-cocycles involved in the deformations of a Nichols algebra of Cartan type $A_2$ with $q=-1$, a.k.a. the positive part of the small quantum group $\mathfrak{u}^+_{\sqrt{\text{-1}}}(\mathfrak{sl}_3)$. We show that t…
As a generalization of the linear Poisson bracket on the dual space of a Lie algebra, we introduce certain non-linear Poisson brackets which are ``cocycle perturbations'' of the linear Poisson bracket. We show that these special Poisson brackets are equivalent to Poisson brackets of central extension type, which resemble the central extensions of an ordinary Lie bracket via Lie algebra cocycles. We are able to formulate (strict) deformation quantizations of these Poisson brackets by means of twisted group C*-algebras. We also indicate that these deformation quantizations can be used to constru…
In this paper we use the description of free group factors as the von Neumann algebras of Berezin's deformation of the upper half-plane, modulo PSL$(2,{\Bbb Z})$. The derivative, in the deformation parameter, of the product in the corresponding algebras, is a positive Hochschild 2-cocycle, defined on a dense subalgebra. By analyzing the structure of the cocycle we prove that there is a generator $\cal L$ for a quantum dynamical semigroup that implements the cocycle on a strongly dense subalgebra. For $x$ in the dense subalgebra, ${\cal L}(x)$ is the (diffusion) operator $$ {\cal L}(x)=Λ(x)-(1/…
We recall the construction of the Kontsevich graph orientation morphism $γ\mapsto {\rm O\vec{r}}(γ)$ which maps cocycles $γ$ in the non-oriented graph complex to infinitesimal symmetries $\dot{\mathcal{P}} = {\rm O\vec{r}}(γ)(\mathcal{P})$ of Poisson bi-vectors on affine manifolds. We reveal in particular why there always exists a factorization of the Poisson cocycle condition $[\![\mathcal{P},{\rm O\vec{r}}(γ)(\mathcal{P})]\!] \doteq 0$ through the differential consequences of the Jacobi identity $[\![\mathcal{P},\mathcal{P}]\!]=0$ for Poisson bi-vectors $\mathcal{P}$. To illustrate the reaso…
The state-sum invariants for knots and knotted surfaces defined from quandle cocycles are described using the Kronecker product between cycles represented by colored knot diagrams and a cocycle of a finite quandle used to color the diagram. Such an interpretation is applied to evaluating the invariants. Algebraic interpretations of quandle cocycles as deformations of extensions are also given. The proofs rely on colored knot diagrams.
This paper begins by introducing the concept of a quasi-hom-Lie algebra which is a natural generalization of hom-Lie algebras introduced in a previous paper by the authors. Quasi-hom-Lie algebras include also as special cases (color) Lie algebras and superalgebras, and can be seen as deformations of these by homomorphisms, twisting the Jacobi identity and skew-symmetry. The natural realm for these quasi-hom-Lie algebras is as a generalization-deformation of the Witt algebra $\Witt$ of derivations on the Laurent polynomials $\C[t,t^{-1}]$. We also develop a theory of central extensions for qhl-…
We give explicit formulas for maps in a long exact sequence connecting bialgebra cohomology to Hochschild cohomology. We give a sufficient condition for the connecting homomorphism to be surjective. We apply these results to compute all bialgebra two-cocycles of certain Radford biproducts (bosonizations). These two-cocycles are precisely those associated to the finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras in the recent classification of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider, in an interpretation of these Hopf algebras as graded bialgebra deformations of Radford biproducts.
Universal Deformation Formulas (UDFs) for the deformation of associative algebras play a key role in deformation quantization. Here we present examples for certain classes of infinitesimals. A basic representable 2-cocycle $F$ of an associative algebra $\mathcal A$ is one for which there exist commuting derivations $D,\dots, D_n$ of $\mathcal A$ such that $F = \sum_{ij}a_{ij}D_i \smile D_j$, where the $a_{ij}$ are central elements of $\mathcal A$. When $\mathcal A$ is defined over the rationals, there is a natural definition of the exponential of such a cocycle. With this $\exp \hbar F$ define…
Beginning with a skew-symmetric matrix, we define a certain Poisson--Lie group. Its Poisson bracket can be viewed as a cocycle perturbation of the linear (or "Lie-Poisson") Poisson bracket. By analyzing this Poisson structure, we gather enough information to construct a C*-algebraic locally compact quantum group, via the "cocycle bicrossed product construction" method. The quantum group thus obtained is shown to be a deformation quantization of the Poisson-Lie group, in the sense of Rieffel.
We identify Cech cocycles in nonabelian (formal) group cohomology with Maurer-Cartan elements in a suitable L-infinity algebra. Applications to deformation theory are described.
We give a formula for a cocycle generating the Hochschild cohomology of the Weyl algebra with coefficients in its dual.It is given by an integral over the configuration space of ordered points on a circle. Using this formula and a non-commutative version of formal geometry, we obtain an explicit expression for the canonical trace in deformation quantization of symplectic manifolds.

A cohomology theory of the adjoint of Hopf algebras, via deformations, is presented by means of diagrammatic techniques. Explicit calculations are provided in the cases of group algebras, function algebras on groups, and the bosonization of the super line. As applications, solutions to the YBE are given and quandle cocycles are constructed from groupoid cocycles.
We give a description of cyclic cohomology and its pairing with K-groups for 2-cocycle deformation of algebras graded over discrete groups. The proof relies on a realization of monodromy for the Gauss-Manin connection on periodic cyclic cohomology in terms of the cup product action of group cohomology.
Graph cocycles for star-products are investigated from the combinatorial point of view, using Connes-Kreimer renormalization techniques. The Hochschild complex, controlling the deformation theory of associative algebras, is the ``Kontsevich representation'' of a DGLA of graphs coming from a pre-Lie algebra structure defined by graph insertions. Properties of the dual of its UEA (an odd parity analog of Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra), are investigated in order to find solutions of the deformation equation. The solution of the initial value deformation problem, at tree-level, is unique. For linear…
This is the central article of a series of three papers on cross product bialgebras. We present a universal theory of bialgebra factorizations (or cross product bialgebras) with cocycles and dual cocycles. We also provide an equivalent (co-)modular co-cyclic formulation. All known examples as for instance bi- or smash, doublecross and bicross product bialgebras as well as double biproduct bialgebras and bicrossed or cocycle bicross product bialgebras are now united within a single theory. Furthermore our construction yields various novel types of cross product bialgebras.
The graph complex acts on the spaces of Poisson bi-vectors $P$ by infinitesimal symmetries. We prove that whenever a Poisson structure is homogeneous, i.e. $P = L_{\vec{V}}(P)$ w.r.t. the Lie derivative along some vector field $\vec{V}$, but not quadratic (the coefficients of $P$ are not degree-two homogeneous polynomials), and whenever its velocity bi-vector $\dot{P}=Q(P)$, also homogeneous w.r.t. $\vec{V}$ by $L_{\vec{V}}(Q)=n\cdot Q$ whenever $Q(P)= Or(γ)(P^{\otimes^n})$ is obtained using the orientation morphism $Or$ from a graph cocycle $γ$ on $n$ vertices and $2n-2$ edges in each term, t…
The forms of the invariant primitive tensors for the simple Lie algebras A_l, B_l, C_l and D_l are investigated. A new family of symmetric invariant tensors is introduced using the non-trivial cocycles for the Lie algebra cohomology. For the A_l algebra it is explicitly shown that the generic forms of these tensors become zero except for the l primitive ones and that they give rise to the l primitive Casimir operators. Some recurrence and duality relations are given for the Lie algebra cocycles. Tables for the 3- and 5-cocycles for su(3) and su(4) are also provided. Finally, new relations invo…
