A topological modulation of magnetic thin films can induce a magnetic anisotropy of magnetostatic origin. In this letter, we report on the magnetic properties of NiFe layers deposited on wavy shaped Si substrates. Without any modulation, our films always present an intrinsic anisotropy. We show unambiguously that patterning the substrate can overcome this anisotropy and even impose a different easy axis of magnetization. This allows the definition of two orthogonal easy axes at different places on the same substrate. This control of anisotropy both in direction and intensity paves the way to the realization of high precision bidimensional magnetic sensors.
We observe magnetic domain structures of MgO/CoFeB with a perpendicular magnetic easy axis under an electric field. The domain structure shows a maze pattern with electric-field dependent isotropic period. We find that the electric-field modulation of the period is explained by considering the electric-field modulation of the exchange stiffness constant in addition to the known magnetic anisotropy modulation.
It has been shown previously that the presence of a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in perpendicularly magnetized thin films stabilizes Néel type domain walls. We demonstrate, using micromagnetic simulations and analytical modeling, that the presence of a uniaxial in-plane magnetic anisotropy can also lead to the formation of Néel walls in the absence of a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. It is possible to abruptly switch between Bloch and Néel walls via a small modulation of both the in-plane, but also the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. This opens up a route towards electric field con…
Temperature dependent magnetometry and transport measurements on epitaxial Fe3O4 films grown on BaTiO3(100) single crystals by molecular beam epitaxy show a series of discontinuities, that are due to changes in the magnetic anisotropy induced by strain in the different crystal phases of BaTiO3. The magnetite film is under tensile strain at room temperature, which is ascribed to the lattice expansion of BaTiO3 at the cubic to tetragonal transition, indicating that the magnetite film is relaxed at the growth temperature. From the magnetization versus temperature curves, the variation in the magn…
Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) is used to study magnetic anisotropy of GaMnAs in a series of Ga$_{1 - x}$Mn$_{x}$As/Ga$_{1 - y}$Al$_{y}$As heterostructures modulation-doped by Be. The FMR experiments provide a direct measure of cubic and uniaxial magnetic anisotropy fields, and their dependence on the doping level. It is found that the increase in doping -- in addition to rising the Curie temperature of the Ga$_{1 - x}$Mn$_{x}$As layers -- also leads to a very significant increase of their uniaxial anisotropy field. The FMR measurements further show that the effective $g$-factor of Ga$_{1 - x}$…
The magnetic anisotropy of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 nanopowders was measured as a function of temperature by the modified singular point detection technique. In this method singularities indicating the anisotropy field were determined analyzing ac susceptibility data. The observed relationship between temperature dependence of anisotropy constant and temperature dependence of magnetization was used to deduce the origin of magnetic anisotropy in the nanopowders. It was shown that magnetic anisotropy of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 nanopowder is determined by two-ion (dipolar or pseudodipolar) and single-ion mechanisms…
Permanent magnet materials require a high uniaxial magneto-crystalline anisotropy. Exchange coupling between small crystallites with easy-plane anisotropy induces an effective uniaxial anisotropy if arranged accordingly. Nanostructuring of materials with easy-plane anisotropy is an alternative way to create hard-magnetic materials. The coercivity increases with decreasing feature size. The resulting coercive field is about 12 percent of the anisotropy field for a crystal size of 3.4 times the Bloch parameter.
We report on the magnetic properties and the crystallographic structure of the cobalt nanowire arrays as a function of their nanoscale dimensions. X-ray diffraction measurements show the appearance of an in-plane HCP-Co phase for nanowires with 50 nm diameter, suggesting a partial reorientation of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy axis along the membrane plane with increasing pore diameter. No significant changes in the magnetic behavior of the nanowire system are observed with decreasing temperature, indicating that the effective magnetoelastic anisotropy does not play a dominant role in the …
In past few decades, Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) has been successfully employed for the emergence of exotic phenomena at the quantum oxide interfaces. In these systems, the combined effect of charge transfer, broken symmetries and SOC yields intriguing interfacial magnetism and transport properties. Here, we provide an insight to control and tune interfacial phenomena in CaMnO3/CaIrO3 based 3d-5d oxide heterostructures by the charge transfer driven Rashba SOC. Anomalous Hall effect in these canted antiferromagnetic heterostructures originates from the intrinsic contribution associated wit…
Voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy (VCMA) offers an emerging approach to realize energy-efficient magnetization switching in spintronic devices such as magnetic random access memories (MRAMs). Here, we show that manipulating the condensed states, i.e., introducing quantum well (QW) can significantly influence the VCMA in a Cr/Fe-QW/MgAl2O4 based magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ). Only for the MTJ with an even number of Fe atomic layers, we observed a novel A-shaped VCMA curve for a particular QW state, where magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) reaches a local maximum at zero bias and reduces whe…
We suggest here a novel nano-laminate, 5[Fe]/2[W$_x$Re$_{1-x}$] (x=0.6-0.8), with enhanced magnetic hardness in combination with a large saturation moment. The calculated magnetic anisotropy of this material reaches values of 5.3-7.0 MJ/m$^3$, depending on alloying conditions. We also propose a recipe in how to identify other novel magnetic materials, such as nano-laminates and multilayers, with large magnetic anisotropy in combination with a high saturation moment.
We report the experimental observation of magnetic skyrmion-like states in patterned ferromagnetic nanostructures consisting of perpendicular magnetized Co/Pt multilayer film exchange coupled with Co nanodisks in vortex state. The magnetic force microscopy and micromagnetic simulations show that depending on the magnitude of Co/Pt perpendicular anisotropy in these systems two different modes of skyrmion formation are realized.
We report tight-binding (TB) and Density Function Theory (DFT) calculations of magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) of free Fe (body centerd cubic) and Co (face centered cubic) slabs and nanocrystals. The nanocrystals are truncated square pyramids which can be obtained experimentally by deposition of metal on a SrTiO$_3$(001) substrate. For both elements our local analysis shows that the total MAE of the nanocrystals is largely dominated by the contribution of (001) facets. However, while the easy axis of Fe(001) is out-of-plane, it is in-plane for Co(001). This has direct consequences o…
We show that the magnetic anisotropy energy of antiferromagnetic ferrihydrite depends on the square root of the nanoparticles volume, using a method based on the analysis of statistical distributions. The size distribution was obtained by transmission electron microscopy, and the anisotropy energy distributions were obtained from ac magnetic susceptibility and magnetic relaxation. The square root dependence corresponds to random local anisotropy, whose average is given by its variance, and can be understood in terms of the recently proposed single phase homogeneous structure of ferrihydrite.
Atomic-scale magnetic nanostructures are promising candidates for future information processing devices. Utilizing external electric field to manipulate their magnetic properties is an especially thrilling project. Here, by careful identifying different contributions of each atomic orbital to the magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) of the ferromagnetic metal films, we argue that it is possible to engineer both the MAE and the magnetic response to the electric field of atomic-scale magnetic nanostructures. Taking the iron monolayer as a matrix, we propose several interesting iron nanostructures wi…
The influence of surface anisotropy on the magnetization processes of maghemite nanoparticles with ellipsoidal shape is studied by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Radial surface anisotropy is found to favor the formation of hedgehog-like spin structures that become more stable as the surface anisotropy constant at the surface $k_S$ is increased form the value at the core. We have studied the change in the low temperature hysteresis loops with the particle aspect ratio and with $k_S$, finding a change in the magnetization reversal mode as $k_S$ or the particle elongation is increased.
The magnetic anisotropy energy of Fe and Co monatomic nanowires both free-standing and at the step edge of a Pt surface is investigated within the framework of the density-functional theory and local-spin-density (LSDA) approximation. Various types of the analysis of the calculated data reveal that the spin-orbit interaction of the Pt atoms and the hybridization between the electronic states have an important impact on the direction of the easy axis and on the magnitude of the magnetic anisotropy, both by a direct contribution localized at the Pt atoms and by an indirect contribution due to th…
We report tight-binding (TB) calculations of magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) of Iron slabs and nanoclusters with a particuler focus on local analysis. After clarifying various concepts and formulations for the determination of MAE, we apply our realistic TB model to the analysis of the magnetic anisotropy of Fe$(001)$, Fe$(110)$ slabs and of two large Fe clusters with $(001)$ and $(110)$ facets only: a truncated pyramid and a truncated bipyramid containg 620 and 1096 atoms, respectively. It is shown that the MAE of slabs originates mainly from outer layers, a small contribution from…
The magnetic moments and magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) of CoRh alloy nanoparticles are determined experimentally and theoretically. Non-trivial correlations between chemical order, magnetic order and MAE are revealed. A remarkable non-monotonous dependence of the MAE as a function of composition and chemical order is observed that opens novel possibilities of tuning the magnetic properties of nanoalloys. The observations are successfully compared and analyzed with our electronic calculations. In this way we clearly demonstrate that the induced 4d moments and the 3d-4d interfaces are the key…
Recent experimental data demonstrate emerging magnetic order in platinum atomically thin nanowires. Furthermore, an unusual form of magnetic anisotropy -- colossal magnetic anisotropy (CMA) -- was earlier predicted to exist in atomically thin platinum nanowires. Using spin dynamics simulations based on first-principles calculations, we here explore the spin dynamics of atomically thin platinum wires to reveal the spin relaxation signature of colossal magnetic anisotropy, comparing it with other types of anisotropy such as uniaxial magnetic anisotropy (UMA). We find that the CMA alters the spin…
We calculate the magnetic SANS cross section of dilute ensembles of uniformly magnetized and randomly-oriented Stoner-Wohlfarth particles using the Landau-Lifshitz equation. The focus of our study is on the angular anisotropy of the magnetic SANS signal as it can be seen on a two-dimensional position-sensitive detector. Depending on the symmetry of the magnetic anisotropy of the particles (e.g. uniaxial, cubic), an anisotropic magnetic SANS pattern may result, even in the demagnetized state or at the coercive field. The case of inhomogeneously magnetized particles and the effects of a particle…
Domain wall motion induced by nanosecond current pulses in nanostripes with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (Pt/Co/AlO$_x$) is shown to exhibit negligible inertia. Time-resolved magnetic microscopy during current pulses reveals that the domain walls start moving, with a constant speed, as soon as the current reaches a constant amplitude, and no or little motion takes place after the end of the pulse. The very low 'mass' of these domain walls is attributed to the combination of their narrow width and high damping parameter $α$. Such a small inertia should allow accurate control of domain wall…
Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy [Co/Pd]15 and L10-FePt nanowire arrays of period 63 nm with linewidths 38 nm and 27 nm and film thickness 27 nm and 20 nm respectively were fabricated using a self-assembled PS-b-PDMS diblock copolymer film as a lithographic mask. The wires are predicted to support Neel walls in the Co/Pd and Bloch walls in the FePt. Magnetostatic interactions from nearest neighbor nanowires promote a ground state configuration consisting of alternating up and down magnetization in adjacent wires. This was observed over ~75% of the Co/Pd wires after ac-demagnetization but was …
Six-line ferrihydrite(FH) nanoparticles have been synthesized in the core of reverse micelles, used as nanoreactors to obtain average particle sizes $<d>$ $\approx$ 2 to 4 nm. The blocking temperatures $T_B^m$ extracted from magnetization data increased from $\approx 10$ to 20 K for increasing particle size. Low-temperature \MOS measurements allowed to observe the onset of differentiated contributions from particle core and surface as the particle size increases. The magnetic properties measured in the liquid state of the original emulsion showed that the \FH phase is not present in the liquid…
It has been recently observed for palladium and gold nanoparticles, that the magnetic moment at constant applied field does not change with temperature over the range comprised between 5 and 300 K. These samples with size smaller than 2.5 nm exhibit remanence up to room temperature. The permanent magnetism for so small samples up to so high temperatures has been explained as due to blocking of local magnetic moment by giant magnetic anisotropies. In this report we show, by analysing the anisotropy of thiol capped gold films, that the orbital momentum induced at the surface conduction electrons…
The Cr2Ge2Te6 (CGT) compound is an intrinsic ferromagnetic material with a van der Waals layered structure that shows great promise in spintronics applications. In this work, we investigated the edge effect in the formation of CGT nanoribbons with different terminations as well as the change in electronic and magnetic properties considering spin-orbit effects on the calculations. We studied the thermodynamic stability of the nanoribbon employing the surface formation energy formalism. According to the calculations, in regions of Ge-rich, Te-rich, and Ge-poor, Te-poor of chemical potential the …
We report on the magnetic and hyperthermia properties of iron nanoparticles synthesized by organometallic chemistry. They are 5.5 nm in diameter and display a saturation magnetization close to the bulk one. Magnetic properties are dominated by the contribution of aggregates of nanoparticles with respect to individual isolated nanoparticles. Alternative susceptibility measurements are been performed on a low interacting system obtained after eliminating the aggregates by centrifugation. A quantitative analysis using the Gittleman s model allow a determination of the effective anisotropy Keff = …
Using first-principles calculations and non-equilibrium Green's function method, we investigate the ballistic thermal transport in single-layer phosphorene. A significant crystallographic orientation dependence of thermal conductance is observed, with room temperature thermal conductance along zigzag direction being 40 percent higher than that along armchair direction. Furthermore, we find that the thermal conductance anisotropy with the orientation can be tuned by applying strain. In particular, the zigzag-oriented thermal conductance is enhanced when a zigzag-oriented strain is applied but d…
We calculate the contribution of the Neel surface anisotropy to the effective anisotropy of magnetic nanoparticles of spherical shape cut out of a simple cubic lattice. The effective anisotropy arises because deviations of atomic magnetizations from collinearity and thus the energy depends on the orientation of the global magnetization. The result is second order in the Neel surface anisotropy, scales with the particle volume and has cubic symmetry with preferred directions [+-1,+-1,+-1].
We investigate the effect of surface anisotropy in a spherical many-spin magnetic nanoparticle. By computing minor loops, two-dimensional (2D) and 3D energyscape, and by investigating the behavior of the net magnetization, we show that in the case of not too strong surface anisotropy the behavior of the many-spin particle may be modeled by that of a macrospin with an effective energy containing uniaxial and cubic anisotropy terms. This holds for both the transverse and Néel's surface anisotropy models.
Through magnetic linear dichroism spectroscopy, the magnetic susceptibility anisotropy of metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes has been extracted and found to be 2-4 times greater than values for semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes. This large anisotropy is consistent with our calculations and can be understood in terms of large orbital paramagnetism of electrons in metallic nanotubes arising from the Aharonov-Bohm-phase-induced gap opening in a parallel field. We also compare our values with previous work for semiconducting nanotubes, which confirm a break from the prediction tha…
We study the ferromagnetic layer thickness dependence of the voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy (VCMA) in gated CoFeB/MgO heterostructures with heavy metal underlayers. When the effective CoFeB thickness is below ~1 nm, the VCMA efficiency of Ta/CoFeB/MgO heterostructures considerably decreases with decreasing CoFeB thickness. We find that a high order phenomenological term used to describe the thickness dependence of the areal magnetic anisotropy energy can also account for the change in the areal VCMA efficiency. In this structure, the higher order term competes against the common interf…
Through the hysteresis loop and magnetization spatial distribution we study and compare two models for surface anisotropy in nanomagnets: a model with transverse anisotropy axes and Néel's model. While surface anisotropy in the transverse model induces several jumps in the hysteresis loop because of the cluster-wise switching of spins, in the Néel model the jumps correspond to successive {\it coherent partial rotations} of the whole bunch of spins. These calculations together with experimental results suggest that Néel's model for surface anisotropy is more appropriate.
We study theoretically the current-induced magnetic domain wall motion in a metallic nanowire with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The anisotropy can reduce the critical current density of the domain wall motion. We explain the reduction mechanism and identify the maximal reduction conditions. This result facilitates both fundamental studies and device applications of the current- induced domain wall motion.
The magnetic anisotropy of a planar array of Ga$_{x}$Fe$_{4-x}$N nanocrystals (NCs) embedded in a GaN host is studied by ferromagnetic resonance. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy are employed to determine the phase and distribution of the nanocrystals. The magnetic anisotropy is found to be primarily uniaxial with the hard axis normal to the NCs plane and to have a comparably weak in-plane hexagonal symmetry. The origin of the magnetic anisotropy is discussed taking into consideration the morphology of the nanocrystals, the epitaxial relations, strain effects and magnetic…
We report on the synthesis of ferromagnetic cobalt nanocubes of various sizes using thermal pyrolysis method and the effect of shape anisotropy on the static and dynamic magnetic properties were studied. Shape anisotropy of approximately 10 % was introduced in nanocubes by making nanodiscs using a linear chain amine surfactant during synthesis process. It has been observed that, ferromagnetism persisted above room temperature and a sharp drop in magnetic moment at low temperatures in zero-field cooled magnetization may be associated with the spin disorder due to the effective anisotropy presen…
We present the results of Monte Carlo simulations of a model of a single maghemite ferrimagnetic nanoparticle with the aim to clarify the role played by the increased anisotropy at the surface and by the shape (spherical or elliptical) of the particle on the magnetization processes at low temperatures. The formation of hedgehog-like structures for high enough surface anisotropy is responsible for a change in the reversal mechanism of the particles.
We study the interplay between the effects of surface anisotropy and dipolar interactions in monodisperse assemblies of nanomagnets with oriented anisotropy. We derive asymptotic formulas for the assembly magnetization taking account of temperature, applied field, core and surface anisotropy, and dipolar inter-particle interactions. We find that the interplay between surface anisotropy and dipolar interactions is well described by the analytical expression of the assembly magnetization derived here: the overall sign of the product of the two parameters governing the surface and the dipolar con…
We explore the possibilities of current modulation at nano-scale level using mesoscopic rings. A single mesoscopic ring or an array of such rings is used for current modulation where each ring is threaded by a time varying magnetic flux $ϕ$ which plays the central role in the modulation action. Within a tight-binding framework, all the calculations are done based on the Green's function formalism. We present numerical results for the two-terminal conductance and current which support the essential features of current modulation. The analysis may be helpful in fabricating mesoscopic or nano-sca…
Magnetization reversal mechanisms and impact of magnetization direction are studied in square arrays of interconnected circular permalloy nanorings using MOKE, local imaging, numerical simulations and transport techniques.
We study thermally assisted domain wall generation in perpendicular magnetic anisotropy CoFeB trilayer nanowires by the effect of Joule heating. The anomalous Hall effect is utilized to detect magnetization reversal in order to study the domain wall generation. We observe a statistical distribution in the switching process which is consistent with the thermal activation process. Our results show that the proposed method provides an efficient way for generating domain walls in perpendicular magnetic nanowires at predefined locations.
The magnetic response of nanostructures plays an important role on biomedical applications being strongly influenced by the magnetic anisotropy. In this work we investigate the role of temperature, particle concentration and nanoparticle arrangement forming aggregates in the effective magnetic anisotropy of Mn-Zn ferrite-based nanoparticles. Electron magnetic resonance and coercivity temperature dependence analyses, were critically compared for the estimation of the anisotropy. We found that the temperature dependence of the anisotropy follows the Callen-Callen model, while the symmetry depend…
The relaxation rate and temperature-dependent switching field curve of a spherical magnetic nanocluster are calculated by taking into account the effect of surface anisotropy via an effective anisotropy model. In particular, it is shown that surface anisotropy may change the thermally activated magnetization reversal by more than an order of magnitude, and that temperature-dependent switching field curves noticeably deviate from the Stoner-Wohlfarth astroid. With recent and future $μ$-SQUID measurements in mind, we indicate how comparison of our results with experimental data on isolated clust…
Nanoparticles (size 20, 40 and 60 nm) of Pr_0.5Sr_0.5MnO_3 are prepared by sol-gel technique and their magnetic properties are studied using ferromagnetic resonance and magnetization measurements. A comparison with the properties of the bulk material shows that the ferromagnetic transition at 265 K remains unaffected but the anti-ferromagnetic transition at T_N = 150 K disappears in the nanoparticles. Further, the temperature dependence of magnetic anisotropy shows a complex behavior, being higher in the nanoparticles at high temperatures and lower at lower temperatures in comparison with the …
Artificial perovskite-oxide nanostructures possess intriguing magnetic properties due to their tailorable electron-electron interactions, which are extremely sensitive to the oxygen coordination environment. To date, perovskite-oxide nanodots with sizes below 50 nm have rarely been reported. Furthermore, the oxygen octahedral distortion and its relation to magnetic properties in perovskite oxide nanodots remain unexplored yet. Here, we have studied the magnetic anisotropy in patterned SrRuO3 (SRO) nanodots as small as 30 nm while performing atomic-resolution electron microscopy and spectroscop…
We investigate the effect of anisotropy and weak dipolar interactions on the magnetization of an assembly of nanoparticles with distributed magnetic moments, i.e., assembly of magnetic nanoparticles in the one-spin approximation, with textured or random anisotropy. The magnetization of a free particle is obtained either by a numerical calculation of the partition function or analytically in the low and high field regimes, using perturbation theory and the steepest-descent approximation, respectively. The magnetization of an interacting assembly is computed analytically in the range of low and …
We compute the AC susceptibility of a weakly dipolar-interacting monodisperse assembly of magnetic nanoclusters with oriented anisotropy. For this purpose we first compute the relaxation rate in a longitudinal magnetic field of a single nanomagnet taking account of both dipolar interactions in the case of dilute assemblies and surface anisotropy. We then study the behavior of the real and imaginary components of the AC susceptibility as functions of temperature, frequency, surface anisotropy and inter-particle interactions. We find that the surface anisotropy induces an upward shift of the tem…
The growth of binary alloy clusters on a weakly interacting substrate through codeposition of two atomic species is studied by kinetic Monte Carlo simulation. Our model describes salient features of CoPt$_3$-nanoclusters, as obtained recently by the molecular-beam epitaxy technique. The clusters display perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) in a temperature window of growth favorable for applications. This temperature window is found to arise from the interplay of Pt surface segregation and aspect ratio for cluster shapes. Conclusions are drawn how to optimize growth parameters with respect …
Nanosheets of nickel with thickness equal to 0.6 nm have been grown within the interlayer spaces of Na-4 mica. The sheets are made up of percolative clusters of nanodisks. Magnetization characteristics indicate a superparamagnetic behavior with a blocking temperature of 428 K.The magnetic anisotropy constant as extracted from the coercivity data has been found to be higher than that of bulk nickel by two orders of magnitude. This is ascribed to a large aspect ratio of the nickel nanophase. The Bloch exponent is also found to be considerably different from that of bulk nickel because of a size …
We study the current controlled modulation of a nano-contact spin torque oscillator. Three principally different cases of frequency non-linearity ($d^{2}f/dI^{2}_{dc}$ being zero, positive, and negative) are investigated. Standard non-linear frequency modulation theory is able to accurately describe the frequency shifts during modulation. However, the power of the modulated sidebands only agrees with calculations based on a recent theory of combined non-linear frequency and amplitude modulation.
To stabilize the non-trivial spin textures, e.g., skyrmions or chiral domain walls in ultrathin magnetic films, an additional degree of freedom such as the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (IDMI) must be induced by the strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) of a stacked heavy metal layer. However, advanced approaches to simultaneously control IDMI and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) are needed for future spin-orbitronic device implementations. Here, we show an effect of atomic-scale surface modulation on the magnetic properties and IDMI in ultrathin films composed of 5d heavy me…
In the present study we probe the bulk modulus and the structure of concentrated magnetic fluids by Small Angle X-ray Scattering. The electrostatically stabilized nanoparticles experience a repulsive interparticle potential modulated by dipolar magnetic interactions. On the interparticle distance lengthscale, we show that nanoparticles are trapped under-field in oblate cages formed by their first neighbours. We propose a theoretical model of magnetostriction for the field-induced deformation of the cage. This model captures the anisotropic features of the experimentally observed scattering pat…
Six-fold configurational anisotropy was studied in Permalloy triangles, in which the shape symmetry order yields two energetically non-degenerate micromagnetic configurations of the spins, the so-called "Y" and "buckle" states. A twelve pointed switching astroid was measured using magneto-optical experiments and successfully reproduced numerically, with different polar quadrants identified as specific magnetic transitions, thereby giving a comprehensive view of the magnetic reversal in these structures. A detailed analysis highlighted the necessity to include the physical rounding of the struc…
Magnetic nanoparticles with Neel surface anisotropy, different internal structures, surface arrangements and elongation are modelled as many-spin systems. The results suggest that the energy of many-spin nanoparticles cut from cubic lattices can be represented by an effective one-spin potential containing uniaxial and cubic anisotropies. It is shown that the values and signs of the corresponding constants depend strongly on the particle's surface arrangement, internal structure and elongation. Particles cut from a simple cubic lattice have the opposite sign of the effective cubic term, as comp…
We study the spectral characteristics of spin current nano-oscillators based on the Pt/[Co/Ni] magnetic multilayer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. By varying the applied magnetic field and current, both localized and propagating spin wave modes of the oscillation are achieved. At small fields, we observe an abrupt onset of the modulation sidebands. We use micromagnetic simulations to identify this state as a dynamical magnetic skyrmion stabilized in the active device region by spin current injection, whose current-induced dynamics is accompanied by the gyrotropic motion of the core due…
