We present an algorithm for writing down explicit formulas for all tree amplitudes in N=8 supergravity, obtained from solving the supersymmetric on-shell recursion relations. The formula is patterned after one recently obtained for all tree amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills which involves nested sums of dual superconformal invariants. We find that all graviton amplitudes can be written in terms of exactly the same structure of nested sums with two modifications: the dual superconformal invariants are promoted from N=4 to N=8 superspace in the simplest manner possible--by squaring them--and certain additional non-dual conformal gravity dressing factors (independent of the superspace coordinates) are inserted into the nested sums. To illustrate the procedure we give explicit closed-form formulas for all NMHV, NNMHV and NNNMV gravity superamplitudes.
We study the application of non-trivial relations between gravity tree amplitudes, the bonus relations, to all tree-level amplitudes in N=8 supergravity. We show that the relations can be used to simplify explicit formulae of supergravity tree amplitudes, by reducing the known form as a sum of (n-2)! permutations obtained by solving on-shell recursion relations, to a new form as a (n-3)!-permutation sum. We demonstrate the simplification by explicit calculations of the next-to-maximally helicity violating (NMHV) and next-to-next-to-maximally helicity violating (N^2MHV) amplitudes, and provide …
We exploit the tree level bosonic 4-particle scattering amplitudes in D=11 supergravity to construct the bosonic part of a linearized supersymmetry-, coordinate- and gauge-invariant. By differentiation, this invariant can be promoted to be the natural lowest (two-loop) order counterterm. Its existence implies that the perturbative supersymmetry does not protect this ultimate supergravity from infinities, given also the recently demonstrated divergence of its 4-graviton amplitude.
We present an explicit formula for the n-point MHV one-loop amplitude in a N=4 supergravity theory. This formula is derived from the soft and collinear factorisations of the amplitude.
We display the vertex operators for all states in the conformal supergravity sector of the twistor string, as outlined by Berkovits and Witten. These include `dipole' states, which are pairs of supergravitons that do not diagonalize the translation generators. We use canonical quantization of the open string version of Berkovits, and compute N-point tree level scattering amplitudes for gravitons, gluons and scalars. We reproduce the Berkovits-Witten formula for maximal helicity violating (MHV) amplitudes (which they derived using path integrals), and extend their results to the dipole pairs. W…
We use Pure Spinor String Theory to construct suitable building blocks to arrange the structure of supergravity amplitudes with n-points and at higher loops in a very convenient way. Following Mafra et al. proposal for N=4 super Yang-Mills amplitudes, we discuss its generalization to supergravity amplitudes. In particular, we first derive the building blocks for closed string amplitudes from closed vertices showing that, because of the factorization, several results of open string theory can be used; nevertheless, also new structures emerge. We provide a first list of these new ingredients and…
In this contribution we describe computational tools that permit the evaluation of multi-loop scattering amplitudes in N=8 supergravity, in terms of amplitudes in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory. We also discuss the remarkable ultraviolet behavior of N=8 supergravity, which follows from these amplitudes, and is as good as that of N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory through at least four loops.
We compute one-loop threshold corrections to R^4 terms in N= 5,6 supergravity vacua of Type II superstrings. We then discuss non-perturbative corrections generated by asymmetric D-brane instantons. Finally we derive generating functions for MHV amplitudes at tree level in N = 5, 6 supergravities.
We calculate the supergravity fields sourced by a D-brane with a null travelling wave from disk amplitudes in type IIB string theory compactified on T^4 x S^1. The amplitudes reproduce all the non-trivial features of the previously known two-charge supergravity solutions in the D-brane/momentum frame, providing a direct link between the microscopic bound states and their macroscopic descriptions.
We construct the six-point NMHV one-loop amplitude in ${\cal N}=4$ supergravity using unitarity and recursion. The use of recursion requires the introduction of rational descendants of the cut-constructible pieces of the amplitude and the computation of the non-standard factorisation terms arising from the loop integrals.
The dual version of the D=10 N=1 supergravity (SUGRA) is considered in the superspace approach. The superstring (anomaly compensating) corrections are described by the 3-form superfield $A_{abc}$ . The complete set of dynamical equations for the $A$-field and for physical fields of the theory are presented. The solution of the $A$-field equations as a finite order polynomial in terms of curvature and graviphoton superfields is given. It makes possible to incorporate some of the superstring corrections in the dual supergravity in the explicit, supersymmetric and closed form.
It has recently been shown that the Matrix model and supergravity give the same predictions for three graviton scattering. This contradicts an earlier claim in the literature (hep-th/9710174). We explain the error in this earlier work, and go on to show that certain terms in the $n$-graviton scattering amplitude involving $v^{2n}$ are given correctly by the Matrix model. The Matrix model also generates certain $v^6$ terms in four graviton scattering at three loops, which do not seem to have any counterparts in supergravity. The connection of these results with nonrenormalization theorems is di…
We analyze the critical ultraviolet behaviour of the four-graviton amplitude in N=8 supergravity to all order in perturbation. We use the Bern-Carrasco-Johansson diagrammatic expansion for N=8 supergravity multiloop amplitudes, where numerator factors are squares of the Lorentz factor of N=4 super-Yang-Mills amplitudes, and the analysis of the critical ultraviolet behaviour of the multiloop four-gluon amplitudes in the single- and double-trace sectors. We argue this implies that the superficial ultraviolet behaviour of the four-graviton N=8 amplitudes from four-loop order is determined by the …
We study correlators of four protected (half-BPS) operators in strongly coupled supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. These are dual to tree-level supergravity amplitudes on AdS${}_5\times$S${}_5$ for various spherical harmonics on the five-sphere. We use conformal field theory methods, in particular a recently obtained Lorentzian inversion formula, to analytically bootstrap these correlators. The extracted $1/N^2$ double-trace anomalous dimensions confirm a simple pattern recently conjectured by Aprile, Drummond, Heslop and Paul. We explain this pattern by an unexpected ten-dimensional conformal …
We expose simple and practical relations between the integrated four- and five-point one-loop amplitudes of N >= 4 supergravity and the corresponding (super-)Yang-Mills amplitudes. The link between the amplitudes is simply understood using the recently uncovered duality between color and kinematics that leads to a double-copy structure for gravity. These examples provide additional direct confirmations of the duality and double-copy properties at loop level for a sample of different theories.
The equations of motion (e.m.'s) of the N=1, D=10 anomaly free supergravity, obtained in the framework of the superspace approach, are analyzed. The formal equivalence of the usual and dual supergravities is discussed at the level of e.m.'s. The great simplicity of the dual formulation is established. The possibillity of the lagrangian formulation of the dual supergravity is pointed out. The bosonic part of the lagrangian is constructed including anomaly compensating superstring corrections.
We study supersymmetry constraints on higher derivative deformations of type IIB supergravity by consideration of superamplitudes. Combining constraints of on-shell supervertices and basic results from string perturbation theory, we give a simple argument for the non-renormalization theorem of Green and Sethi, and some of its generalizations.
This is a personal recollection of several results related to the study of the high energy limit of scattering amplitudes in gravitational theories. They would not have been possible without the encouragement and constant support from Lev Nikolaevich Lipatov.
We use 4d ambitwistor string theory to derive new worldsheet formulae for tree-level conformal supergravity amplitudes supported on refined scattering equations. Unlike the worldsheet formulae for super-Yang-Mills or supergravity, the scattering equations for conformal supergravity are not in general refined by MHV degree. Nevertheless, we obtain a concise worldsheet formula for any number of scalars and gravitons which we lift to a manifestly supersymmetric formula using four types of vertex operators. The theory also contains states with non-plane wave boundary conditions and we show that th…
Supersymmetric integrands for the two-loop five-point amplitudes in ten-dimensional super Yang--Mills and type II supergravity are proposed. The kinematic numerators are manifestly local and satisfy the duality between color and kinematics described by Bern, Carrasco and Johansson. Our results are expected to reproduce the integrated two-loop amplitudes in dimensions $D<7$. The UV divergence in the critical dimension $D=7$ matches the low-energy limit of the corresponding superstring amplitudes and is written in terms of SYM tree amplitudes.
We present the full two-loop four-graviton amplitudes in N=4,5,6 supergravity. These results were obtained using the double-copy structure of gravity, which follows from the recently conjectured color-kinematics duality in gauge theory. The two-loop four-gluon scattering amplitudes in N=0,1,2 supersymmetric gauge theory are a second essential ingredient. The gravity amplitudes have the expected infrared behavior: the two-loop divergences are given in terms of the squares of the corresponding one-loop amplitudes. The finite remainders are presented in a compact form. The finite remainder for N=…
We discuss the calculation of one-loop amplitudes in N=8 supergravity using MHV diagrams. In contrast to MHV amplitudes of gluons in Yang-Mills, tree-level MHV amplitudes of gravitons are not holomorphic in the spinor variables. In order to extend these amplitudes off shell, and use them as vertices to build loops, we introduce certain shifts for the spinor variables associated to the loop momenta. Using this off-shell prescription, we rederive the four-point MHV amplitude of gravitons at one loop, in complete agreement with known results. We also discuss the extension to the case of one-loop …
We present a twistor-like formula for the complete tree-level S matrix of 6D $(2,0)$ supergravity coupled to $21$ abelian tensor multiplets. This is the low-energy effective theory that corresponds to Type IIB superstring theory compactified on a $\mathrm{K}3$ surface. The formula is expressed as an integral over the moduli space of certain rational maps of the punctured Riemann sphere. By studying soft limits of the formula, we are able to explore the local moduli space of this theory, ${SO(5,21)\over SO(5)\times SO(21)}$. Finally, by dimensional reduction, we also obtain a new formula for th…
Prompted by recent progress in the study of N=4 super Yang-Mills amplitudes, and evidence that similar approaches might be relevant to N=8 supergravity, we investigate possible iterative structures and applications of Wilson loop techniques in maximal supergravity. We first consider the two-loop, four-point MHV scattering amplitude in N=8 supergravity, confirming that the infrared divergent parts exponentiate, and we give the explicit expression which represents the failure for this to occur for the finite part. We observe that each term in the expansion of the one- and two-loop amplitudes in …
Motivated by the standard form of string-theory amplitude, we calculate the field-theory amplitude to complete the higher-derivative terms in type II supergravity theories in their conventional form. We derive explicitly the $ O(α'^3) $ interactions for the RR (Ramond-Ramond) fields with graviton, B-field and dilaton in the low-energy effective action of type II superstrings. We check our results by comparison with previous works that have been done by the other methods, and find an exact agreement.
We show that three-dimensional supergravity amplitudes can be obtained as double copies of either three-algebra super-Chern-Simons matter theory or that of two-algebra super-Yang-Mills theory, when either theory is organized to display the color-kinematics duality. We prove that only helicity-conserving four-dimensional gravity amplitudes have nonvanishing descendants when reduced to three dimensions; implying the vanishing of odd-multiplicity S-matrix elements, in agreement with Chern-Simons matter theory. We explicitly verify the double-copy correspondence at four and six points for N=12,10,…
We present compact formulas for the box coefficients of the six-point NMHV one-loop amplitudes in N=8 supergravity. We explicitly demonstrate that the corresponding box integral functions, with these coefficients, have the complete IR singularities expected of the one-loop amplitude. This is strong evidence for the conjecture that N=8 one-loop amplitudes may be expressed in terms of scalar box integral functions. This structure, although unexpected from a power counting viewpoint, is analogous to the structure of N=4 super-Yang-Mills amplitudes. The box-coefficients match the tree amplitude te…
We compute the anomalous two-loop four-point amplitudes in N=4 pure supergravity, using unitarity and the double-copy construction. We also present all terms determined by four-dimensional cuts in two all-multiplicity two-loop anomalous superamplitudes. This result provides the first two-loop n-point gravity amplitude, up to a class of undetermined rational terms, which are absent at four points. We show that a recently proposed finite counterterm cancels these amplitudes to this order. We argue that the counterterm does not spoil the three-loop finiteness of anomalous amplitudes in the N=4 th…
We use Pure Spinor string theory to construct suitable kinematical factors which explicitly satisfy the Kleiss-Kuijf (KK) relations. Using the formula conceived by Bern et al. and employed by us for 4- and 5-point amplitudes in a previous work, we are able to compute the 6-point supergravity amplitude from the corresponding SYM building blocks given by Mafra et al.. We derive the KK and Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) identities from the BRST invariance and we discuss the relations between Bern et al. building blocks and those of Mafra et al..
We derive an on-shell diagram recursion for tree-level scattering amplitudes in $\mathcal{N}=7$ supergravity. The diagrams are evaluated in terms of Grassmannian integrals and momentum twistors, generalising previous results of Hodges in momentum twistor space to non-MHV amplitudes. In particular, we recast five and six-point NMHV amplitudes in terms of $\mathcal{N}=7$ R-invariants analogous to those of $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills, which makes cancellation of spurious poles more transparent. Above 5-points, this requires defining momentum twistors with respect to different orderings of th…
Conformal supergravity arises in presently known formulations of twistor-string theory either via closed strings or via gauge-singlet open strings. We explore this sector of twistor-string theory, relating the relevant string modes to the particles and fields of conformal supergravity. We also use the twistor-string theory to compute some tree level scattering amplitudes with supergravitons, and compare to expectations from conformal supergravity. Since the supergravitons interact with the same coupling constant as the Yang-Mills fields, conformal supergravity states will contribute to loop am…
From general arguments, we show that one-loop n-point amplitudes in colourless theories satisfy a new type of reduction formula. These lead to the existence of cancellations beyond supersymmetry. Using such reduction relations we prove the no-triangle hypothesis in maximal supergravity by showing that in four dimensions the n-point graviton amplitude contain only scalar box integral functions. We also discuss the reduction formulas in the context of gravity amplitudes with less and no supersymmetry.
We study the low energy theorems associated with the non-linearly realized continuous E7 symmetry of the on-shell N=8 supergravity. For Nambu-Goldstone bosons we evaluate the one-soft-scalar-bosonemission amplitudes by computing the E7 current matrix element on the one-particle external lines. We use the explicit form of the conserved E7 Noether current and prove that all such matrix elements vanish in the soft momentum limit, assuming the SU(8) symmetry of the S-matrix.This implies that all tree amplitudes vanish in the one-soft-boson limit. We also discuss the implications of unbroken E7 symm…
We computed a set of structures which appear in the four-point function of protected operators of dimension two in $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super Yang Mills with $SU(N)$ gauge group, at any order in a large $N$ expansion. They are determined only by leading order CFT data. By focusing on a specific limit, we made connection with the dual supergravity amplitude in flat space, where such structures correspond to iterated $s$-cuts. We made several checks and we conjecture that the same interpretation holds for supergravity amplitudes on $AdS_5 \times S^5$.
We derive a new non-singular tree-level KLT relation for the $n=5$-point amplitudes, with manifest $2(n-2)!$ symmetry, using information from one-loop amplitudes and IR divergences, and speculate how one might extend it to higher n-point functions. We show that the subleading-color ${\cal N}=4$ SYM 5-point amplitude has leading IR divergence of $1/ε$, which is essential for the applications of this paper. We also propose a relation between the subleading-color ${\cal N}=4$ SYM and ${\cal N}=8$ supergravity 1-loop 5-point amplitudes, valid for the IR divergences and possibly for the whole ampli…
Concrete calculations have pointed out that amplitudes in perturbative gravity exhibit unanticipated cancellations taming their ultraviolet behaviour independently of supersymmetry. Similar ultraviolet behaviour of N=4 super-Yang-Mills and N=8 maximal supergravity has explicitly been observed until three loops. These cancellations can be connected to two manifest features of gravitational theories: firstly gauge invariance from diffeomorphism symmetries and secondly that amplitudes are colourless and exhibits crossing symmetry. We will give a simple physical explanation of the cancellations ex…
In this note we address the worldsheet description of 4-dimensional N=8 supergravity using ambitwistors. After gauging an appropriate current algebra, we argue that the only physical vertex operators correspond to the N=8 supermultiplet. It has previously been shown that worldsheet correlators give rise to supergravity tree level scattering amplitudes. We extend this work by proposing a definition for genus-one amplitudes that passes several consistency checks such as exhibiting modular invariance and reproducing the expected infrared behavior of 1-loop supergravity amplitudes.
We study the four point function of the superconformal primary of the stress-tensor multiplet in four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super Yang Mills, at large 't Hooft coupling and in a large $N$ expansion. This observable is holographically dual to four graviton amplitudes in type IIB supergravity on $AdS_5 \times S^5$. We construct the most trascendental piece of the correlator at order $N^{-6}$ and compare it with the flat space limit of the corresponding two loops amplitude. This comparison allows us to conjecture structures of the correlator/amplitude which should be present at any loop ord…
It is known that for N=8 supergravity, the double-soft-scalar limit of a n-point amplitude is given by a sum of local SU(8) rotations acting on a (n-2)-point amplitude. For N<8 supergravity theories, complication arises due to the presence of a U(1) in the U(N) isotropy group, which introduces a soft-graviton singularity that obscures the action of the duality symmetry. In this paper, we introduce an anti-symmetrised extraction procedure that exposes the full duality group. We illustrate this procedure for tree-level amplitudes in 4<=N<8 supergravity in four dimensions, as well as N=16 supergr…
The 4-loop 4-point amplitude in N=8 d=4 supergravity is UV finite due to supersymmetry. Even better UV behavior of the 4-loop 4-point amplitude, analogous to that of N=4 SYM theory, has been recently established by computation in [1]. All n-point 4-loop amplitudes with n greater than 5 are finite on dimensional grounds. However, the situation with the 5-point amplitudes remained unclear. In this paper we will show that the 5-point 4-loop amplitude must be finite due to supersymmetry, despite the fact that $R^5$ has a supersymmetric generalization for N=1, N=2 and N=4 SUSY. This means that all …
We define recursion relations for N = 8 supergravity amplitudes using a generalization of the on-shell diagrams developed for planar N = 4 super-Yang-Mills. Although the recursion relations generically give rise to non-planar on-shell diagrams, we show that at tree-level the recursion can be chosen to yield only planar diagrams, the same diagrams occurring in the planar N = 4 theory. This implies non-trivial identities for non-planar diagrams as well as interesting relations between the N = 4 and N = 8 theories. We show that the on-shell diagrams of N = 8 supergravity obey equivalence relation…
We evaluate in great detail one-loop four-graviton field theory amplitudes in pure N=4 D=4 supergravity. The expressions are obtained by taking the field theory limits of (4,0) and (2,2) space-time supersymmetric string theory models. For each model we extract the contributions of the spin-1 and spin-2 N=4 supermultiplets running in the loop. We show that all of those constructions lead to the same four-dimensional result for the four-graviton amplitudes in pure supergravity even though they come from different string theory models.
Conformal supergravity amplitudes are obtained from the double-copy construction using gauge-theory amplitudes, and compared to direct calculations starting from conformal supergravity Lagrangians. We consider several different theories: minimal ${\cal N}=4$ conformal supergravity, non-minimal ${\cal N}=4$ Berkovits-Witten conformal supergravity, mass-deformed versions of these theories, as well as supersymmetry truncations thereof. Coupling the theories to a Yang-Mills sector is also considered. For all cases we give the gravity Lagrangians that the double copy implicitly generates. The two m…
We expose a double-copy structure in the scattering amplitudes of the generic Jordan family of N=2 Maxwell-Einstein and Yang-Mills/Einstein supergravity theories in four and five dimensions. The Maxwell-Einstein supergravity amplitudes are obtained through the color/kinematics duality as a product of two gauge-theory factors; one originating from pure N=2 super-Yang-Mills theory and the other from the dimensional reduction of a bosonic higher-dimensional pure Yang-Mills theory. We identify a specific symplectic frame in four dimensions for which the on-shell fields and amplitudes from the doub…
We find explicit expression for the one-loop four-graviton amplitude in eleven-dimensional supergravity compactified on a circle. Represented in terms of the string coupling (related to the compactification radius) it takes the form of an infinite sum of perturbative string loop corrections. We also compute the amplitude in the case of compactification on a 2-torus which is given by an SL(2,Z) invariant expansion in powers of the torus area. We discuss the structure of quantum corrections in eleven-dimensional theory and their relation to string theory.
We compute the symbol of the two-loop five-point amplitude in $\mathcal N=8$ supergravity. We write an ansatz for the amplitude whose rational prefactors are based on not only 4-dimensional leading singularities, but also $d$-dimensional ones, as the former are insufficient. Our novel $d$-dimensional unitarity-based approach to the systematic construction of an amplitude's rational structures is likely to have broader applications, for example to analogous QCD calculations. We fix parameters in the ansatz by performing numerical integration-by-parts reduction of the known integrand. We find th…
We present the explicit expressions in N=8 supergravity for the bosonic 4-particle tree and 1-loop amplitudes including vectors and scalars. We also present the candidate 4-point UV divergences in a form of helicity amplitudes, corresponding to 3-loop manifestly N=8 supersymmetric and Lorentz covariant counterterm. This may shed some light on the 3-loop finiteness of N=8 SG and on a conjectured higher loop finiteness. We perform a supersymmetric deformation to complex momentum of the 4-point generating function including higher-loop counterterms and the 1-loop UV finite amplitudes. Using the e…
We present a description for amplitude diagrams in maximal supergravities obtained by dimensional reduction from D=11, derived from a field theory point of view using the pure spinor formalism. The advantages of this approach are the manifest supersymmetry present in the formalism, and the limited number of interaction terms in the action. Furthermore, we investigate the conditions set by this description in order for amplitudes in maximal supergravity to be finite in the ultraviolet limit. Typically, there is an upper limit to the dimension, set by the loop order, which for an arbitrary numbe…
We construct all supergravity theories that can be obtained through factorized orbifold projections of N=8 supergravity, exposing their double-copy structure, and calculate their one-loop four-point scattering amplitudes. We observe a unified structure in both matter and gravity amplitudes, and demonstrate that the four-graviton amplitudes are insensitive to the precise nature of the matter couplings. We show that these amplitudes are identical for the two different realizations of N=4 supergravity with two vector multiplets, and argue that this feature extends to all multiplicities and loop o…
We extend the recently established Mellin correspondence of supergravity and superstring amplitudes to the case of arbitrary helicity configurations. The amplitudes are discussed in the framework of Grassmannian varieties. We generalize Hodges' determinant to a function of two sets of independent coordinates and show that tree-level supergravity amplitudes can be obtained by contour integrations of both sets in separate Grassmannians while in superstring theory, one set of coordinates is identified with string vertex positions at the disk boundary and Mellin transformed into generalized hyperg…
We consider the contributions upto the $D^{10} \mathcal{R}^4$ terms in the low momentum expansion of the two loop four graviton amplitude in maximal supergravity that arise in the field theory limit of genus two modular graph functions that result from the low momentum expansion of the four graviton amplitude in toroidally compactified type II string theory, using the worldline formalism of the first quantized superparticle. The expression for the two loop supergravity amplitude in the worldline formalism allows us to obtain contributions from the individual graphs, unlike the expression for t…
We compute the tree level 4-particle bosonic scattering amplitudes in D=11 supergravity. By construction, they are part of a linearized supersymmetry-, coordinate- and 3-form gauge-invariant. While this on-shell invariant is nonlocal, suitable SUSY-preserving differentiations turn it into a local one with correct dimension to provide a natural lowest (two-loop) order counterterm candidate. Its existence shows explicitly that no symmetries protect this ultimate supergravity from the nonrenormalizability of its lower-dimensional counterparts.
Using the method of maximal cuts, we obtain a form of the three-loop four-point scattering amplitude of N=8 supergravity in which all ultraviolet cancellations are made manifest. The Feynman loop integrals that appear have a graphical representation with only cubic vertices, and numerator factors that are quadratic in the loop momenta, rather than quartic as in the previous form. This quadratic behavior reflects cancellations beyond those required for finiteness, and matches the quadratic behavior of the three-loop four-point scattering amplitude in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory. By direct integ…
We present the complete integrands of five-point superamplitudes in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory and N=8 supergravity, at one and two loops, for four-dimensional external states and D-dimensional internal kinematics. For N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory we give the amplitudes for general gauge group -- including all non-planar contributions. The results are constructed using integral diagrams that manifestly satisfy the conjectured duality between color and kinematics, providing additional nontrivial evidence in favor of the duality for multipoint and multiloop amplitudes. We determine the ultraviol…
In previous work, the two-loop five-point amplitudes in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory and $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity were computed at symbol level. In this paper, we compute the full functional form. The amplitudes are assembled and simplified using the analytic expressions of the two-loop pentagon integrals in the physical scattering region. We provide the explicit functional expressions, and a numerical reference point in the scattering region. We then calculate the multi-Regge limit of both amplitudes. The result is written in terms of an explicit transcendental function basis. …
A new class of twistor string theories were recently constructed by Abou-Zeid, Hull and Mason. The most interesting one of these theories has the particle content of N=8 supergravity. Arguments are given for the vanishing of the (+ - -)-helicity amplitude for gravitons which suggest that this theory describes a chiral N=8 supergravity rather than Einstein supergravity.
We derive an ABDK-like relation between the one- and two-loop four-graviton amplitudes in N=8 supergravity. Specifically we show that the infrared divergent part of the two-loop amplitude is one-half the square of the one-loop amplitude, suggesting an exponential structure for IR divergences. The difference between the two-loop amplitude and one-half the square of the full one-loop amplitude is therefore finite, and expressible in a relatively simple form. We give arguments for generalizations to higher loops and n-point functions, suggesting that the exponential of the full one-loop amplitude…
We explore the structure of maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills correlators in the supergravity regime. We develop an algorithm to construct one-loop supergravity amplitudes of four arbitrary Kaluza-Klein supergravity states, properly dualised into single-particle operators. We illustrate this algorithm by constructing new explicit results for multi-channel correlation functions, and we show that correlators which are degenerate at tree level become distinguishable at one-loop. The algorithm contains a number of subtle features which have not appeared until now. In particular, we address the p…
N=4 Poincare supergravity has a global SU(1,1) duality symmetry that acts manifestly only on shell as it involves duality rotations of vector fields. A U(1) subgroup of this symmetry is known to be anomalous at the quantum level in the presence of a non-trivial gravitational background. We first derive this anomaly from a novel perspective, by relating it to a similar anomaly in conformal supergravity where SU(1,1) acts off shell, using the fact that N=4 Poincare supergravity has a superconformal formulation. We explicitly construct the corresponding local and nonlocal anomalous terms in the o…
