The exact expression for the density matrix of the kink ground state of the ferromagnetic XXZ chain is obtained. Utilizing this, we exactly calculate various correlation functions such as the longitudinal and transverse spin-spin correlation functions, and the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic string formation probabilities. The asymptotic behaviors of these correlation functions are also analyzed. As a consequence, we find that the spin-spin correlation functions decay exponentially for large distances, while the string formation probabilities exhibit Gaussian decay for large strings. We also evaluate the entanglement entropy, which shows interesting behaviors due to the lack of the translational invariance of the state.
We give a precise definition for excitations consisting of a droplet of size n in the XXZ chain with various choices of boundary conditions, including kink boundary conditions and prove that, for each n, the droplet energies converge to a boundary condition independent value in the thermodynamic limit. We rigorously compute an explicit formula for this limiting value using the Bethe ansatz.
We investigate the low-lying excited states of the spin J ferromagnetic XXZ chain with Ising anisotropy Delta and kink boundary conditions. Since the third component of the total magnetization, M, is conserved, it is meaningful to study the spectrum for each fixed value of M. We prove that for J>= 3/2 the lowest excited eigenvalues are separated by a gap from the rest of the spectrum, uniformly in the length of the chain. In the thermodynamic limit, this means that there are a positive number of excitations above the ground state and below the essential spectrum.
We demonstrate an implementation scheme for constructing quantum gates using unitary evolutions of the one-dimensional spin-J ferromagnetic XXZ chain. We present numerical results based on simulations of the chain using the time-dependent DMRG method and techniques from optimal control theory. Using only a few control parameters, we find that it is possible to implement one- and two-qubit gates on a system of spin-3/2 XXZ chains, such as Not, Hadamard, Pi-8, Phase, and C-Not, with fidelity levels exceeding 99%.
The Heisenberg XXZ spin-1/2 chain is considered in the massive antiferromagnetic regime in the presence of a staggered longitudinal magnetic field. The Hamiltonian of the model is characterised by the anisotropy parameter $Δ<-1$, and by the magnetic field strength h. At zero magnetic field, the model is exactly solvable. In the thermodynamic limit, it has two degenerate vacua and the kinks (which are also called spinons) interpolating between these vacua, as elementary excitations. Application of the staggered magnetic field breaks integrability of the model and induces the long-range attracti…
For the antiferromagnetic, highly anisotropic XZ and XXZ quantum spin chains, we impose periodic boundary conditions on chains with an odd number of sites to force an interface (or kink) into the chain. We prove that the energy of the interface depends on the momentum of the state. This shows that at zero temperature the interface in such chains is not stable. This is in contrast to the ferromagnetic XXZ chain for which the existence of localized interface ground states has been proven for any amount of anisotropy in the Ising-like regime.
We show that the well-known translation invariant ground states and the recently discovered kink and antikink ground states are the complete set of pure infinite-volume ground states (in the sense of local stability) of the spin-S ferromagnetic XXZ chains with Hamiltonian H=-sum_x [ S^1_x S^1_{x+1} + S^2_x S^2_{x+1} + Delta S^3_x S^3_{x+1} ], for all Delta >1, and all S=1/2,1,3/2,.... For the isotropic model (Delta =1) we show that all ground states are translation invariant. For the proof of these statements we propose a strategy for demonstrating completeness of the list of the pure infinite…
We present exact results on the thermal conductivity of the one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ model in the massive antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic regimes. The thermal Drude weight is calculated by a lattice path integral formulation. Numerical results for wide ranges of temperature and anisotropy as well as analytical results in the low and high temperature limits are presented. At finite temperature, the thermal Drude weight is finite and hence there is non-dissipative thermal transport even in the massive regime. At low temperature, the thermal Drude weight behaves as $D(T)\sim \exp(-δ/T)/\s…
We investigate the effect of a magnetic field supported at a single lattice site on the low-energy spectrum of the ferromagnetic Heisenberg XXZ chain. Such fields, caused by impurities, can modify the low-energy spectrum significantly by pinning certain excitations, such as kink and droplet states. We distinguish between different boundary conditions (or sectors), the direction and also the strength of the magnetic field. E.g., with a magnetic field in the z-direction applied at the origin and ++ boundary conditions, there is a critical field strength B_c (which depends on the anisotropy of th…
The plateau-non-plateau transition in the antiferromagnetic-(ferromagnetic)$_{n}$ polymerized $S=1/2$ XXZ chains under the magnetic field is investigated. The universality class of this transition belongs to the Brezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) type. The critical points are determined by level spectroscopy analysis of the numerical diagonalization data for $4 \leq p \leq 13$ where $p(\equiv n+1)$ is the size of a unit cell. It is found that the critical strength of ferromagnetic coupling decreases with $p$ for small $p$ but increases for larger enough $p$. It is also found that the plateau…
We study the ground state properties of one-dimensional XXZ model with next-nearest neighbor coupling alpha and anisotropy Delta. We find the direct transition between the ferromagnetic phase and the spontaneously dimerized phase. This is surprising, because the ferromagnetic phase is classical, whereas the dimer phase is a purely quantum and nonmagnetic phase. We also discuss the effect of bond alternation which arises in realistic systems due to lattice distortion. Our results mean that the direct transition between the ferromagnetic and spin-Peierls phase occur.
We study the scattering of an electron by a ferromagnetic domain wall of the quantum Heisenberg-Ising model (XXZ model) with certain boundary conditions. The spin of the electron interacts with the spins of the XXZ model by the Hund coupling. Using the exact domain wall ground states of the XXZ model, we analytically obtain the exact effective Schrödinger equation for conduction electrons. This equation coincides with a conventional phenomenological Schrödinger equation which was derived in a classical treatment of spins of a domain wall. By solving the Schrödinger equation numerically, we hav…
We numerically investigate thermal entanglement of the spins (1/2,1) and (1/2,1/2) in the three-mixed (1/2,1,1/2) anisotropic Heisenberg XXZ spin system on a simple triangular cell under an inhomogeneous magnetic field. We show that the external magnetic field induces strong plateau formation in pairwise thermal entanglement for fixed parameters of Hamiltonian in the case of the ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic interactions. We also observe an unexpected critical point at finite temperature in the thermal entanglement of the spins (1/2,1) for antiferromagnetic case while the entanglement o…
The ground-state phase diagram of a spin-1/2 XXZ chain with competing ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor (J_1<0) and antiferromagnetic second-neighbor (J_2>0) exchange couplings is studied by means of the infinite time evolving block decimation algorithm and effective field theories. For the SU(2)-symmetric (Heisenberg) case, we show that the nonmagnetic phase in the range -4<J_1/J_2<0 has a small but finite ferromagnetic dimer order. We argue that this spontaneous dimer order is associated with effective spin-1 degrees of freedom on dimerized bonds, which collectively form a valence bond solid st…
We study the magnetization plateau at a third of the saturation magnetization of the S=1/2 trimerized XXZ spin chain at T=0. The appearance of the plateau depends on the values of the XXZ anisotropy and the magnitude of the trimerization. This plateauful-plateauless transition is a quantum phase transition of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless type, which is difficult to precisely detect from the numerical data. To determine the phase boundary line of this transition precisely, we use the level crossing of low-lying excitations obtained from the numerical diagonalization. We also discuss the …
We prove ferromagnetic ordering of energy levels for XXX Heisenberg chains of any spin and XXZ spin chains with all spins equal to 1/2. Ferromagnetic ordering means that the minimum energies in the invariant subspaces of fixed total spin are monotone decreasing as a function of the total spin. This result provides a ferromagnetic analogue of the well-known theorem by Lieb and Mattis about ordering of energy levels in antiferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic systems on bipartite graphs.
We consider the Ising Field Theory (IFT), and the 3-state Potts Field Theory (PFT), which describe the scaling limits of the two- dimensional lattice q-state Potts model with q=2, and q=3, respectively. At zero magnetic field h=0, both field theories are integrable away from the critical point, have q degenerate vacua in the ferromagnetic phase, and q(q-1) particles of the same mass - the kinks interpolating between two different vacua. Application of a weak magnetic field induces confinement of kinks into bound states - the mesons (for q =2,3) consisting predominantly of two kinks, and baryon…
The XXZ Heisenberg chain is considered for two specific limits of the anisotropy parameter: $\Dl\to 0$ and $\Dl\to -\infty$. The corresponding wave functions are expressed by means of the symmetric Schur functions. Certain expectation values and thermal correlation functions of the ferromagnetic string operators are calculated over the base of N-particle Bethe states. The thermal correlator of the ferromagnetic string is expressed through the generating function of the lattice paths of random walks of vicious walkers. A relationship between the expectation values obtained and the generating fu…
Form factors for local spin operators of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 finite chain are computed. Representation theory of Drinfel'd twists for the sl2 quantum affine algebra in finite dimensional modules is used to calculate scalar products of Bethe states (leading to Gaudin formula) and to solve the quantum inverse problem for local spin operators in the finite XXZ chain. Hence, we obtain the representation of the n-spin correlation functions in terms of expectation values(in ferromagnetic reference state) of the operator entries of the quantum monodromy matrix satisfying Yang-Baxter algebra. …
Using the algebraic Bethe ansatz method, and the solution of the quantum inverse scattering problem for local spins, we obtain multiple integral representations of the $n$-point correlation functions of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-$1 \over 2$ chain in a constant magnetic field. For zero magnetic field, this result agrees, in both the massless and massive (anti-ferromagnetic) regimes, with the one obtained from the q-deformed KZ equations (massless regime) and the representation theory of the quantum affine algebra ${\cal U}_q (\hat{sl}_2)$ together with the corner transfer matrix approach (massive…
A class of general spin 1/2 lattice models on hyper-cubic lattice $Z^d$, whose Hamiltonians are sums of two functions depending on the Pauli matrices $S^1$, $S^2$ and $S^3$, respectively, are found, which have Gibbsian eigen (ground) states and two order parameters for two spin components $x$, $z$ simultaneously for large values of the parameter $α$ playing the role of the inverse temperature. It is shown that the ferromagnetic order in $x$ direction exists for all dimensions $d\geq 1$ for a wide class of considered models (a proof is remarkably simple).
The anisotropic XXZ spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain is studied using renormalization-group theory. The specific heats and nearest-neighbor spin-spin correlations are calculated thoughout the entire temperature and anisotropy ranges in both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic regions, obtaining a global description and quantitative results. We obtain, for all anisotropies, the antiferromagnetic spin-liquid spin-wave velocity and the Isinglike ferromagnetic excitation spectrum gap, exhibiting the spin-wave to spinon crossover. A number of characteristics of purely quantum nature are found: The in-plan…
We show some symmetry relations among the correlation functions of the integrable higher-spin XXX and XXZ spin chains, where we explicitly evaluate the multiple integrals representing the one-point functions in the spin-1 case. We review the multiple-integral representations of correlation functions for the integrable higher-spin XXZ chains derived in a region of the massless regime including the anti-ferromagnetic point. Here we make use of the gauge transformations between the symmetric and asymmetric R-matrices, which correspond to the principal and homogeneous gradings, respectively, and w…
We study the correlation $<σ^z_0σ^z_n>$ for the XXZ chain in the massless attractive (ferromagnetic) region at positive temperatures by means of a numerical study of the quantum transfer matrix. We find that there is a range of temperature where the behavior of the correlation for large separations is oscillatory with an incommensurate period which depends on temperature.
The transverse field in the quantum Ising chain is linearly ramped from the para- to the ferromagnetic phase across the quantum critical point at a rate characterized by a quench time $τ_Q$. We calculate a connected kink-kink correlator in the final state at zero transverse field. The correlator is a sum of two terms: a negative (anti-bunching) Gaussian that depends on the Kibble-Zurek (KZ) correlation length only and a positive term that depends on a second longer scale of length. The second length is made longer by dephasing of the state excited near the critical point during the following r…
The infinite Heisenberg XXZ spin-(1/2) chain in the gapped antiferromagnetic regime has two degenerate vacua and kink topological excitations (which are also called spinons) interpolating between these vacua as elementary excitations. Application of an arbitrary weak staggered longitudinal magnetic field h induces a long-range attractive potential between two adjacent spinons leading to their confinement into 'meson' bound states. Exploiting the integrability of the XXZ model in the deconfined phase h = 0, we perform perturbative calculations of the energy spectra of the two-spinon bound state…
We study the open XXZ spin chain in the anti-ferromagnetic regime and for generic longitudinal magnetic fields at the two boundaries. We discuss the ground state via the Bethe ansatz and we show that, for a chain of even length L and in a regime where both boundary magnetic fields are equal and bounded by a critical field, the spectrum is gapped and the ground state is doubly degenerate up to exponentially small corrections in L. We connect this degeneracy to the presence of a boundary root, namely an excitation localized at one of the two boundaries. We compute the local magnetization at the …
We study the Emptiness Formation Probability (EFP) for the spin 1/2 XXZ spin chain. EFP P(n) detects a formation of ferromagnetic string of the length n in the ground state. It is expected that EFP decays in a Gaussian way for large strings P(n) ~ n^{-gamma} C^{-n^2}. Here, we propose the explicit expressions for the rate of Gaussian decay C as well as for the exponent gamma. In order to confirm the validity of our formulas, we employed an ab initio simulation technique of the density-matrix renormalization group to simulate XXZ spin chain of sufficient length. Furthermore, we performed Monte-…
We study the entanglement properties of anisotropic open spin one-half Heisenberg chains with a modified central bond. The entanglement entropy between the two half-chains is calculated with the density-matrix renormalization method (DMRG).We find a logarithmic behaviour with an effective central charge c' varying with the length of the system. It flows to one in the ferromagnetic region and to zero in the antiferromagnetic region of the model. In the XX case it has a non-universal limit and we recover previous results.
The spin-1/2 XXZ Heisenberg magnet is considered for the case of the anisotropy parameter tending to infinity (so-called, Ising limit). A thermal correlation function of the ferromagnetic string is calculated over the ground state. The approach to the calculation of the correlation functions in the limit of infinite anisotropy is based on the observation that the wave function is expressed in terms of the symmetric Schur functions. It is demonstrated that at low temperatures the amplitude of the asymptotical expression of this correlation function is proportional to the squared numbers of stri…
We consider analytically and numerically an anisotropic spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ delta-chain (sawtooth chain) in which exchange interactions between apical and basal spins are ferromagnetic and those between basal spins are antiferromagnetic. In the limit of strong anisotropy of exchange interactions this model can be considered as the Ising delta chain with macroscopic degenerate ground state perturbed by transverse quantum fluctuations. These perturbations lift the ground state degeneracy and the model reduces to the basal XXZ spin chain in the magnetic field induced by static apical spins. We sho…
Phase diagram, critical properties and thermodynamic functions of the two-dimensional field-free quantum-spin-1/2 XXZ model has been calculated globally using a numerical renormalization group theory. The nearest-neighbor spin-spin correlations and entanglement properties, as well as internal energy and specific heat are calculated globally at all temperatures for the whole range of exchange interaction anisotropy, from XY limit to Ising limits, for both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic cases. We show that there exists long-range (quasi-long-range) order at low-temperatures, and the low-lyi…
We study quantum quenches in the XXZ spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg chain from families of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic initial states. Using Bethe ansatz techniques, we compute short-range correlators in the complete generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE), which takes into account all local and quasi-local conservation laws. We compare our results to exact diagonalization and numerical linked cluster expansion calculations for the diagonal ensemble finding excellent agreement and thus providing a very accurate test for the validity of the complete GGE. Furthermore, we compute the diagonal entropy in …
We compute, by means of exact diagonalization of systems of N=16 and 18 spins, the correlation function <σ^z_0σ^z_n> at nonzero temperature for the XXZ model with anisotropy Δ. In the gapless ferromagnetic region -1<Δ<0 for fixed separation the temperature can always be made sufficiently low so that the correlation is always negative for n \neq 0. However we find that for sufficiently large temperatures and fixed separation or for fixed temperature greater than some T0(\DElta) and sufficiently large separations the correlations are always positive. This sign changing effect has not been previo…
One dimensional S=1 XXZ chains with uniaxial single-ion-type anisotropy are studied by numerical exact diagonalization of finite size systems. The numerical data are analyzed using conformal field theory, the level spectroscopy, phenomenological renormalization group and finite size scaling method. We thus present the first quantitatively reliable ground state phase diagram of this model. The ground states of this model contain the Haldane phase, large-D phase, Néel phase, two XY phases and the ferromagnetic phase. There are four different types of transitions between these phases: the Brezins…
In a two or three dimensional ferromagnetic XXZ model, a low energy excitation mode above a magnetic domain wall is gapless, whereas all of the usual spin wave excitations moving around the whole crystal are gapful. Although this surprising fact was already proved in a mathematically rigorous manner, the gapless excitations have not yet been detected experimentally. For this issue, we show theoretically that the gapless excitations appear as the dynamical fluctuations of the experimental observable, magnetoresistance, in a ferromagnetic wire. We also discuss other methods (e.g., ferromagnetic …
We consider a linear quench from the paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase in the quantum Ising chain interacting with a static spin environment. Both decoherence from the environment and non-adiabaticity of the evolution near a critical point excite the system from the final ferromagnetic ground state. For weak decoherence and relatively fast quenches the excitation energy, proportional to the number of kinks in the final state, decays like an inverse square root of a quench time, but slow transitions or strong decoherence make it decay in a much slower logarithmic way. We also find that fideli…
We study the ground-state phase diagram of a one-dimensional spin-1/2 easy-plane XXZ model with a ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor (NN) coupling $J_1$ and a competing next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) antiferromagnetic coupling $J_2$ in the parameter range $0<J_2/|J_1|<0.4$. When $J_2/|J_1|\lesssim1/4$, the model is in a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid phase which is adiabatically connected to the critical phase of the XXZ model of $J_2=0$. On the basis of the effective (sine-Gordon) theory and numerical analyses of low-lying energy levels of finite-size systems, we show that the NNN coupling induces phase …
We study the geometrical entanglement of the XXZ chain in its critical regime. Recent numerical simulations [Q.-Q. Shi, R. Orús, J. O. Fjærestad and H.-Q Zhou, New J. Phys. {\bf 12}, 025008 (2010)] indicate that it scales linearly with system size, and that the first subleading correction is constant, which was argued to be possibly universal. In this work, we confirm the universality of this number, by relating it to the Affleck-Ludwig boundary entropy corresponding to a Neumann boundary condition for a free compactified field. We find that the subleading constant is a simple function of the …
We investigate the ground-state properties of the XXZ model with $1/r^α$ interactions, describing spins interacting with long-range (LR) transverse (XX) ferromagnetic interactions and longitudinal (Z) antiferromagnetic interactions, or hardcore bosons with LR repulsion and hopping. The LR nature of the couplings allows us to quantitatively study the spectral, correlation and entanglement properties of the system by making use of linear spin-wave theory, supplemented with density-matrix renormalization group in one-dimensional systems. Our most important prediction is the existence of three dis…
We study the heat conduction of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain in finite magnetic fields where magnetothermal effects arise. Due to the integrability of this model, all transport coefficients diverge, signaled by finite Drude weights. Using exact diagonalization and mean-field theory, we analyze the temperature and field dependence of the thermal Drude weight for various exchange anisotropies under the condition of zero magnetization-current flow. First, we find a strong magnetic field dependence of the Drude weight, including a suppression of its magnitude with increasing field strength and a non-mon…
We study the probability of formation of ferromagnetic string in the antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 XXZ chain. We show that in the limit of long strings with weak magnetization per site the bosonization technique can be used to address the problem. At zero temperature the obtained probability is Gaussian as a function of the length of the string. At finite but low temperature there is a crossover from the Gaussian behavior at intermediate lengths of strings to the exponential decay for very long strings. Although the weak magnetization per site is a necessary small parameter justifying our results…
We summarize our theoretical findings on the ground-state phase diagram of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain having competing nearest-neighbor (J1) and antiferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor (J2) couplings. Our study is mainly concerned with the case of ferromagnetic J1, and the case of antiferromagnetic J1 is briefly reviewed for comparison. The phase diagram contains a rich variety of phases in the plane of J1/J2 versus the XXZ anisotropy Delta: vector-chiral phases, Néel phases, several dimer phases, and Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid phases. We discuss the vector-chiral order that appears for a remarkabl…
We study the zero temperature quenching dynamics of various extensions of the transverse Ising model (TIM) when the transverse field is linearly quenched from $-\infty$ to $+\infty$ (or zero) at a finite and uniform rate. The rate of quenching is dictated by a characteristic scale given by $τ$. The density of kinks produced in these extended models while crossing the quantum critical points during the quenching process is calculated using a many body generalization of the Landau-Zener transition theory. The density of kinks in the final state is found to decay as $τ^{-1/2}$. In the first model…
Under a perfect periodic potential, the electric current density induced by a constant electric field may exhibit nontrivial oscillations, so-called Bloch oscillations, with an amplitude that remains nonzero in the large system size limit. Such oscillations have been well studied for nearly noninteracting particles and observed in experiments. In this work, we revisit Bloch oscillations in strongly interacting systems. By analyzing the spin-1/2 XXZ chain, which can be mapped to a model of spinless electrons, we demonstrate that the current density at special values of the anisotropy parameter …
We study the breakdown of the magnetization plateau at the magnetization M=M_{S}/3 (M_{S} is the saturation magnetization) of the S=1/2 anisotropic spin chain with ferromagnetic-ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic interactions. We consider the model with the isotropic ferromagnetic (trimer) coupling J_{F}, and anisotropic antiferromagnetic coupling (J_{x}=J_{y}=J_{AF} and J_{z}=ΔJ_{AF}). For the limit of large γ\equiv J_{F}/J_{AF}, the model is equivalent to the S=3/2 XXZ chain with the exchange anisotropy Δ. There is a phase transition between the plateau (small-γ) and the no-plateau (large-γ) re…
We revisit the study of the emptiness formation probability, the probability of forming a sequence of $\ell$ spins with the same ferromagnetic orientation in the ground-state of a quantum spin chain. We focus on two different examples, exhibiting strikingly different behavior: the XXZ and Ising chains. One has a conserved number of particles, the other does not. In the latter we show that the sequence of fixed spins can be viewed as an additional boundary in imaginary time. We then use conformal field theory (CFT) techniques to derive all universal terms in its scaling, and provide checks in f…
Using the framework of nonlinear fluctuating hydrodynamics (NFH), we examine equilibrium spatio-temporal correlations in classical ferromagnetic spin chains with nearest neighbor interactions. In particular, we consider the classical XXZ-Heisenberg spin chain (also known as Lattice Landau Lifshitz or LLL model) evolving deterministically and chaotically via Hamiltonian dynamics, for which energy and $z$-magnetization are the only locally conserved fields. For the easy-plane case, this system has a low-temperature regime in which the difference between neighboring spin's angular orientations in…
Experimental platforms based on trapped ions, cold molecules, and Rydberg atoms have made possible the investigation of highly-nonlocal spin-${1/2}$ Hamiltonians with long-range couplings. Here, we study the effects of such non-local couplings in the long-range spin-${1/2}$ XXZ Heisenberg Hamiltonian. We calculate explicitly the two-spin energy spectrum, which describes all possible energetic configurations of two spins pointing in a specific direction embedded in a background of spins with opposite orientation. For fast decay of the spin-spin couplings, we find that the two-spin energy spectr…
We develop a geometric representation for the ground state of the spin-1/2 quantum XXZ ferromagnetic chain in terms of suitably weighted random walks in a two-dimensional lattice. The path integral model so obtained admits a genuine classical statistical mechanics interpretation with a translation invariant Hamiltonian. This new representation is used to study the interface ground states of the XXZ model. We prove that the probability of having a number of down spins in the up phase decays exponentially with the sum of their distances to the interface plus the square of the number of down spin…
The kagome lattice sits at the crossroad of present research efforts in quantum spin liquids, chiral phases, emergent skyrmion excitations and anomalous Hall effects to name but a few. In light of this diversity, our goal in this paper is to build a unifying picture of the underlying magnetic degrees-of-freedom on kagome. Motivated by a growing mosaic of materials, we especially consider a broad range of nearest-neighbour interactions consisting of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya as well as anisotropic ferro$-$ and antiferromagnetic coupling. We present a three-fold mapping on the kagome lattice which t…
The phase diagram of a coupled tetrahedral Heisenberg model is obtained. The quantum chain has a local gauge symmetry and its eigenspectrum is obtained by the composition of the eigenspectra of spin-1/2 XXZ chains with arbitrary distribution of spin-3/2 impurities. The phase diagram is quite rich with an infinite number of phases with ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic order. In some cases the ground state and the low lying eigenlevels of the model can be exactly calculated since they coincide with the eigenlevels of the exactly integrable XXZ chain. The thermodynamical properti…
A variational ansatz for momentum eigenstates of translation invariant quantum spin chains is formulated. The matrix product state ansatz works directly in the thermodynamic limit and allows for an efficient implementation (cubic scaling in the bond dimension) of the variational principle. Unlike previous approaches, the ansatz includes topologically non-trivial states (kinks, domain walls) for systems with symmetry breaking. The method is benchmarked using the spin-1/2 XXZ antiferromagnet and the spin-1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet and we obtain surprisingly accurate results.
In this paper, the phase diagrams and the critical behavior of the spin-1/2 anisotropic XXZ ferromagnetic model (the anisotropic parameter Δ\in(-\infty,1]) on two kinds of diamond-type hierarchical (DH) lattices with fractal dimensions d_{f}=2.58 and 3, respectively, are studied via the real-space renormalization group method. It is found that in the isotropic Heisenberg limit (Δ=0), there exist finite temperature phase transitions for the two kinds of DH lattices above. The systems are also investigated in the range of -\infty<Δ<0 and it is found that they exhibit XY-like fixed points. Meanwh…
We investigate a family of lattice models with manifest N=2 supersymmetry. The models describe fermions on a 1D lattice, subject to the constraint that no more than k consecutive lattice sites may be occupied. We discuss the special properties arising from the supersymmetry, and present Bethe ansatz solutions of the simplest models. We display the connections of the k=1 model with the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic XXZ chain at Δ=-1/2, and the k=2 model with both the su(2|1)-symmetric tJ model in the ferromagnetic regime and the integrable spin-1 XXZ chain at Δ=-1/\sqrt{2}. We argue that these mod…
An exact solution for an XXZ chain with four-body interactions is obtained and its phase diagram is determined. The model can be reduced to two chains coupled by four-body interactions, and it is shown that the ground state of the two-chain model is magnetized in part. Furthermore, a twisted four-body correlation function of the anti-ferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is obtained.
