We study single soft scalar emission amplitudes of $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity (SUGRA) at the one-loop level using an explicit formula for one-loop amplitudes in terms of tree amplitudes, which in turn are evaluated using supersymmetric BCFW recursion relations. It turns out that the infrared finite parts of all such amplitudes vanish in the soft momentum limit, which supports the conjecture that $E_{7(7)}$ symmetry has no anomalies at the one-loop level.
The problem of the M5 brane anomaly cancellation is addressed. We reformulate FHMM construction making explicit the relation with the M5 brane SUGRA solution. We suggest another solution to the magnetic coupling equation which doesn't need anomalous SO(5) variation of the 3-form potential and coincides with the SUGRA solution outside smoothed out core of the magnetic source. Chern-Simons term evaluated on this solution generates the same anomaly inflow as achieved by FHMM.
In this short note, we prove the supersymmetric Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) relations between N=8 supergravity (SUGRA) and N=4 super Yang-Mills (SYM) tree-level amplitudes in the frame of S-matrix program, especially we do not use string theory or the explicit Lagrangian form of corresponding theories. Our supersymmetric KLT relations naturally unify the non-supersymmetric KLT relations and newly discovered gauge theory identities and produce more identities for amplitudes involving scalars and fermions. We point out also that these newly discovered identities can be used to reduce helicity basis…
I review how "classical SUGRA" embeddability establishes positive energy E for D=3 topologically massive gravity (TMG), with or without a cosmological term, a procedure familiar from D=4 Einstein gravity (GR). It also provides explicit expressions for E. In contrast to GR, E is not manifestly positive, due to the peculiar two-term nature of TMG.
In this note we study supersymmetric solutions of 11 dimensional SUGRA. Amongst others, we find a new solution, which preserves 3/8 of the original supersymmetry.
When supergravity (SUGRA) is spontaneously broken, it is well known that anomaly mediation generates sparticle soft masses proportional to the gravitino mass. Recently, we showed that one-loop anomaly-mediated gaugino masses should be associated with unbroken supersymmetry (SUSY). This counterintuitive result arises because the underlying symmetry structure of (broken) SUGRA in flat space is in fact (unbroken) SUSY in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. When quantum corrections are regulated in a way that preserves SUGRA, the underlying AdS curvature (proportional to the gravitino mass) necessarily ap…
According to the AdS/CFT correspondence, the d=4, N=4 SU(N) SYM is dual to the Type IIB string theory compactified on AdS_5xS^5. A mechanism was proposed previously that the chiral anomaly of the gauge theory is accounted for to the leading order in N by the Chern-Simons action in the AdS_5 SUGRA. In this paper, we consider the SUGRA\string action at one loop and determine the quantum corrections to the Chern-Simons action. While gluon loops do not modify the coefficient of the Chern-Simons action, spinor loops shift the coefficient by an integer. We find that for finite N, the quantum correcti…
We present new formulas for $n$-particle tree-level scattering amplitudes of six-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(1,1)$ super Yang-Mills (SYM) and $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supergravity (SUGRA). They are written as integrals over the moduli space of certain rational maps localized on the $(n-3)!$ solutions of the scattering equations. Due to the properties of spinor-helicity variables in six dimensions, the even-$n$ and odd-$n$ formulas are quite different and have to be treated separately. We first propose a manifestly supersymmetric expression for the even-$n$ amplitudes of $\mathcal{N}=(1,1)$ SYM theory…
In this note, we go over the recent soft photon model and Faddeev-Jackiw quantization of the massless quantum electrodynamics in the eikonal limit to some extent. Throughout our readdressing, we observe that the gauge potentials in both approaches become pure gauges and the associated eikonal Faddeev-Jackiw quantum bracket matches with the soft quantum bracket. These observations and the fact that the gauge fields in two cases localize in two-dimensional plane (even if it is spatial in soft photon case and $1+1$-dimensional Minkowski in the eikonal case) imply that there might be an interestin…
We derive the asymptotic symmetries of the manifestly duality invariant formulation of electromagnetism in Minkoswki space. We show that the action is invariant under two algebras of angle-dependent $u(1)$ transformations, one electric and the other magnetic. As in the standard electric formulation, Lorentz invariance requires the addition of additional boundary degrees of freedom at infinity, found here to be of both electric and magnetic types. A notable feature of this duality symmetric formulation, which we comment upon, is that the on-shell values of the zero modes of the gauge generators…
Recently, the leading soft gluon theorem with single soft emission was shown to be the Ward identity of a two dimensional $\cal G$-Kac-Moody symmetry. In this note, we show that the leading soft gluon theorem can be interpreted as the Ward identity for the asymptotic symmetries of non-Abelian gauge theory. We further argue that the sub-leading soft gluon theorem can follow from the same symmetry.
In this note, it is shown that closed string graviton scattering amplitudes obey the same subleading soft limit as field theory graviton scattering amplitudes. The result is derived using a combination of recent results and methods including the subleading soft expansion for type I open string gluon disk scattering amplitudes, the single value projection for multiple $ζ$ values, and the KLT relations in field and string theory.
We use the asymptotic data at conformal null-infinity $\mathscr{I}$ to formulate Weinberg's soft-photon theorem for Abelian gauge theories with massless charged particles. We show that the angle-dependent gauge transformations at $\mathscr{I}$ are not merely a gauge redundancy, instead they are genuine symmetries of the radiative phase space. In the presence of these symmetries, Poisson bracket between the gauge potentials is not well-defined. This does not pose an obstacle for the quantization of the radiative phase space, which proceeds by treating the conjugate electric field as the fundame…
We show that the soft part of the charge generating infinitesimal superrotations can be expressed, in harmonic gauge, in terms of metric components evaluated at the boundaries of null infinity that are subleading in a large radius expansion. We then recast the spin memory observable in terms of these boundary values.
Celestial amplitudes are flat-space amplitudes which are Mellin-transformed to correlators living on the celestial sphere. In this note we present a recursion relation, based on a tree-level BCFW recursion, for gravitational celestial amplitudes and use it to explore the notion of conformal softness. As the BCFW formula exponentiates in the soft energy, it leads directly to conformal soft theorems in an exponential form. These appear from a soft piece of the amplitude characterized by a discrete family of singularities with weights $Δ=1-\mathbb{Z}_+$. As a byproduct, in the case of the MHV sec…
The new soft theorems, for both gravity and gauge amplitudes, have inspired a number of works, including the discovery of new identities related to amplitudes. In this note, we present the proof and discussion for two sets of identities. The first set includes an identity involving the half-soft function which had been used in the soft theorem for one-loop rational gravity amplitudes, and another simpler identity as its byproduct. The second set includes two identities involving the KLT momentum kernel, as the consistency conditions of the KLT relation plus soft theorems for both gravity and g…
Recently, it has been shown that the Weinberg's formula for soft graviton production is essentially a Fourier transformation of the formula for gravitational memory which provides an effective way to understand how the classical calculation arises as a limiting case of the quantum result. In this note, we propose a general framework that connects the soft theorems to the radiation fields obtained from classical computation for different theories in even dimensions. We show that the latter is nothing but Fourier transformation of the former. The memory formulas can be derived from radiation fie…
Recently, new soft graviton theorem proposed by Cachazo and Strominger has inspired a lot of works. In this note, we use the KLT-formula to investigate the theorem. We have shown how the soft behavior of color ordered Yang-Mills amplitudes can be combined with KLT relation to give the soft behavior of gravity amplitudes. As a byproduct, we find two nontrivial identities of the KLT momentum kernel must hold.
We investigate the memory effects associated with the kicks of particles. Recently, the equivalence between the memory effect and soft theorem has been established. By computing the memory effect from the radiation solutions, we explicitly confirm that, in addition to the leading piece, the subleading and subsubleading soft theorems are equivalent to the subleading and subsubleading memory effects, respectively. It is known that the memory effects can be probed by the displacements or kicks of the test particles. We point out that the these memory effects are also probed by the permanent chang…
We have proved the nilpotency of the operators which describe the gauge dependence of the generating functionals of Green's functions for the gauge theories with the soft breaking of BRST symmetry in the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism.
In this short note I show that the soft limit for colour-ordered tree-level Yang-Mills amplitudes contains a sub-leading divergent term analogous to terms found recently by Cachazo and Strominger for tree-level gravity amplitudes.

In this note, we prove that the recent proposal for the tree-level n-particle N=8 supergravity amplitudes by Cachazo and Geyer satisfies parity symmetry and soft limit behavior expected for graviton scattering amplitudes.
In arXiv:2008.04330 it was shown that supertranslation and $\overline{SL(2,\mathbb C)}$ current algebra symmetries, corresponding to leading and subleading soft graviton theorems, are enough to determine the tree level MHV graviton scattering amplitudes. In this note we clarify the role of subsubleading soft graviton theorem in this context.
In this note, I show that the recently proposed subleading soft factor in massless gauge theory uniquely follows from conformal symmetry of tree-level gauge theory amplitudes in four dimensions.
In this note we show that the recent conjecture proposed by Cachazo and Strominger holds at tree level in arbitrary dimensions. The proof makes crucial use of the fact that the sub-leading operator is defined using the total angular momentum operator. A key ingredient that makes the proof possible is the CHY formula for graviton amplitudes in arbitrary number of dimensions.
Inspired by the new soft theorem in gravity by Cachazo and Strominger, the soft theorem for color-ordered Yang-Mills amplitudes has also been identified by Casali. In this note, the same content of N=4 SYM using the Grassmannian formulation is studied. Explicitly, in the holomorphic soft limit, we reduce the n-particle amplitude in terms of Grassmannian contour integrations into the deformed (n-1)-particle amplitude by localizing k variables relevant to the n-th particle. Afterwards, the leading soft factor and sub-leading soft operator naturally emerge.
We show that the most general fermion loop diagram is finite in both soft and collinear regions and therefore, it's IR finite. We use this result to express the IR singular structure of a box scalar integral in terms of the IR singular structure of reduced triangle scalar integrals.
As statements regarding the soft limit of cosmological correlation functions, consistency relations are known to exist in any flat FRW universe. In this letter we explore the possibility of finding such relations in a spatially closed universe, where the soft limit $\textbf{q}\rightarrow 0$ does not exist in any rigorous sense. Despite the absence of spatial infinity of the spatial slices, we find the adiabatic modes and their associated consistency relations in a toy universe with background topology $R\times S^2$. Flat FRW universe adiabatic modes are recovered via taking the large radius li…
A novel technique is used to compute the bulk viscosity of high temperature holographic gauge theory plasmas with softly broken conformal symmetry. Working in a black hole background which corresponds to a non-trivial solution to the Navier-Stokes equation, and using a Ward identity for the trace of the stress-energy tensor, it is possible to obtain an analytic expression for the bulk viscosity. This can be used to verify the high temperature limit of a conjectured bound on the bulk viscosity for these theories. The bound is saturated when the conformal symmetry-breaking operator becomes margi…
In this work, we revisit unitary irreducible representations of the Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) group discovered by McCarthy. Representations are labelled by an infinite number of super-momenta in addition to four-momentum. Tensor products of these irreducible representations lead to particle-like states dressed by soft gravitational modes. Conservation of 4-momentum and supermomentum in the scattering of such states leads to a memory effect encoded in the outgoing soft modes. We note there exist irreducible representations corresponding to soft states with strictly vanishing four-momentum, whic…
In this note we show that by fixing the multiloop Green function in the closed bosonic string to be Arakelov's Green function, one obtains factorization of scattering amplitudes with a softly emitted dilaton to the same level as with a graviton to all loop order. This extends our previous analysis at one loop to all loop orders and confirms that some high-energy quantum symmetry in the bosonic string protects the factorization of amplitudes with softly emitted dilatons.
