A random-field Ising model that is capable of exhibiting a rich variety of multicritical phenomena, as well as a smearing of such behavior, is investigated. The model consists of an infinite-range-interaction Ising ferromagnet in the presence of a triple-Gaussian random magnetic field, which is defined as a superposition of three Gaussian distributions with the same width $σ$, centered at H=0 and $H=\pm H_{0}$, with probabilities $p$ and $(1-p)/2$, respectively. Such a distribution is very general and recovers as limiting cases, the trimodal, bimodal, and Gaussian probability distributions.
We propose a new method to numerically calculate transition points that belongs to 2D Ising universality class for quantum spin models. Generally, near the multicritical point, in conventional methods, a finite size correction becomes very large. To suppress the effect of the multicritical point, we use a z-axis twisted boundary condition and a y-axis twisted boundary condition. We apply our method to an S = 1/2 bond-alternating XXZ model. The multicritical point of this model has a BKT transition, where the correlation length diverges singularly. However, with our method, the convergence of c…
We discuss how a spin system, which is subject to quenched disorder, might exhibit multicritical behaviors at criticality if the distribution of the impurities is arbitrary. In order to provide realistic candidates for such multicritical behaviors, we discuss several generalizations of the standard randomly diluted Ising's universality class adopting the $ε$-expansion close to several upper critical dimensions. In the presentation, we spend a special effort in bridging between CFT and RG results and discuss in detail the computation of quantities, which are of prominent interest in the case of…
We analyze theoretically the many-body dynamics of a dissipative Ising model in a transverse field using a variational approach. We find that the steady state phase diagram is substantially modified compared to its equilibrium counterpart, including the appearance of a multicritical point belonging to a different universality class. Building on our variational analysis, we establish a field-theoretical treatment corresponding to a dissipative variant of a Ginzburg-Landau theory, which allows us to compute the upper critical dimension of the system. Finally, we present a possible experimental r…
The two-dimensional quantum $XY$ model with a transverse magnetic field was investigated with the exact diagonalization method. Upon turning on the magnetic field $h$ and the $XY$-plane anisotropy $η$, there appear a variety of phase boundaries, which meet at the multicritical point $(h,η)=(2,0)$. We devote ourselves to the Ising-universality branch, placing an emphasis on the multicritical behavior. As a probe to detect the underlying phase transitions, we adopt the fidelity susceptibility $χ_F$. The fidelity susceptibility does not rely on any presumptions as to the order parameter involved.…
Magnetic phenomena of the superantiferromagnetic Ising model in both uniform longitudinal ($H$) and transverse ($Ω$) magnetic fields are studied by employing a mean-field variational approach based on Peierls-Bogoliubov inequality for the free energy. A single-spin cluster is used to get the approximate thermodynamic properties of the model. The phase diagrams in the magnetic fields and temperature ($T$) planes, namely, $H-T$ and $Ω-T$, are analyzed on an anisotropic square lattice for some values of the ratio $α=J_{y}/J_{x}$, where $J_x$ and $J_y$ are the exchange interactions along the $x$ a…
The spin-3/2 Ising model, with nearest-neighbor interactions only, is the prototypical system with two different ordering species, with concentrations regulated by a chemical potential. Its global phase diagram, obtained in d=3 by renormalization-group theory in the Migdal-Kadanoff approximation or equivalently as an exact solution of a d=3 hierarchical lattice, with flows subtended by 40 different fixed points, presents a very rich structure containing eight different ordered and disordered phases, with more than fourteen different types of phase diagrams in temperature and chemical potential…
We investigate the multicritical behavior of the three-dimensional Z_2 gauge Higgs model, at the multicritical point (MCP) of its phase diagram, where one first-order transition line and two continuous Ising-like transition lines meet. The duality properties of the model determine some features of the multicritical behavior at the MCP located along the self-dual line. Moreover, we argue that the system develops a multicritical XY behavior at the MCP, which is controlled by the stable XY fixed point of the three-dimensional multicritical Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson field theory with two competing sc…
The de Almeida-Thouless (AT) line in Ising spin glasses is the phase boundary in the temperature $T$ and magnetic field $h$ plane below which replica symmetry is broken. Using perturbative renormalization group (RG) methods, we show that when the dimension $d$ of space is just above $6$ there is a multicritical point (MCP) on the AT line, which separates a low-field regime, in which the critical exponents have mean-field values, from a high-field regime where the RG flows run away to infinite coupling strength; as $d$ approaches $6$ from above, the location of the MCP approaches the zero-field…
The spin-1/2 transverse field two-leg Ising ladder with nearest-neighbor exchange and plaquette four-spin interaction $J_{4}$ is studied analytically and numerically with the density matrix renormalization group approach. The quantum phase diagram in the transverse field $B$ versus $J_{4}$ plane has been obtained. There are three different phases: a paramagnetic (PM) phase for high values of the transverse field and, for low values of $B$, a ferromagnetic (FM) ordered phase for small $J_{4}$ and a dimerized-rung (DR) phase for large negative values of $J_{4}$. All phases are separated by quant…

Driven-dissipative systems are expected to give rise to non-equilibrium phenomena that are absent in their equilibrium counterparts. However, phase transitions in these systems generically exhibit an effectively classical equilibrium behavior in spite of their non-equilibrium origin. In this paper, we show that multicritical points in such systems lead to a rich and genuinely non-equilibrium behavior. Specifically, we investigate a driven-dissipative model of interacting bosons that possesses two distinct phase transitions: one from a high- to a low-density phase---reminiscent of a liquid-gas …
The Critical Finite Size Scaling Relation of the Order-Parameter Probability Distribution for the Three-Dimensional Ising Model on the Creutz Cellular Automaton
In this work we propose a new numerical method to evaluate the critical point, the susceptibility critical exponent and the correlation length critical exponent of the three dimensional Ising model without external field using an algorithm that evaluates directly the derivative of the logarithm of the probability distribution function with respect to the magnetisation. Using standard finite-size scaling theory we found that correction-to-scaling effects are not present within this approach. Our results are in good agreement with previous reported values for the three dimensional Ising model.
