Generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes form a wide and useful class of linear codes that includes thoroughly quasi-cyclic codes, finite geometry (FG) low density parity check (LDPC) codes, and Hermitian codes. Although it is known that the systematic encoding of GQC codes is equivalent to the division algorithm in the theory of Grobner basis of modules, there has been no algorithm that computes Grobner basis for all types of GQC codes. In this paper, we propose two algorithms to compute Grobner basis for GQC codes from their parity check matrices: echelon canonical form algorithm and transpose algorithm. Both algorithms require sufficiently small number of finite-field operations with the order of the third power of code-length. Each algorithm has its own characteristic; the first algorithm is composed of elementary methods, and the second algorithm is based on a novel formula and is faster than the first one for high-rate codes. Moreover, we show that a serial-in serial-out encoder architecture for FG LDPC codes is composed of linear feedback shift registers with the size of the linear order of code-length; to encode a binary codeword of length n, it takes less than 2n adder and 2n memory elements. Keywords: automorphism group, Buchberger's algorithm, division algorithm, circulant matrix, finite geometry low density parity check (LDPC) codes.
We propose a novel encoding scheme for algebraic codes such as codes on algebraic curves, multidimensional cyclic codes, and hyperbolic cascaded Reed-Solomon codes and present numerical examples. We employ the recurrence from the Gröbner basis of the locator ideal for a set of rational points and the two-dimensional inverse discrete Fourier transform. We generalize the functioning of the generator polynomial for Reed-Solomon codes and develop systematic encoding for various algebraic codes.
In this paper, a lemma in algebraic coding theory is established, which is frequently appeared in the encoding and decoding for algebraic codes such as Reed-Solomon codes and algebraic geometry codes. This lemma states that two vector spaces, one corresponds to information symbols and the other is indexed by the support of Grobner basis, are canonically isomorphic, and moreover, the isomorphism is given by the extension through linear feedback shift registers from Grobner basis and discrete Fourier transforms. Next, the lemma is applied to fast unified system of encoding and decoding erasures …
The encoding complexity of a general (en,ek) quasi-cyclic code is O[(e^2)(n-k)k]. This paper presents a novel low-complexity encoding algorithm for quasi-cyclic (QC) codes based on matrix transformation. First, a message vector is encoded into a transformed codeword in the transform domain. Then, the transmitted codeword is obtained from the transformed codeword by the inverse Galois Fourier transform. For binary QC codes, a simple and fast mapping is required to post-process the transformed codeword such that the transmitted codeword is binary as well. The complexity of our proposed encoding …
We give an algorithm for finding network encoding and decoding equations for error-free multicasting networks with multiple sources and sinks. The algorithm given is efficient (polynomial complexity) and works on any kind of network (acyclic, link cyclic, flow cyclic, or even in the presence of knots). The key idea will be the appropriate use of the delay (both natural and additional) during the encoding. The resulting code will always work with finite delay with binary encoding coefficients.
Spread codes and cyclic orbit codes are special families of constant dimension subspace codes. These codes have been well-studied for their error correction capability, transmission rate and decoding methods, but the question of how to encode and retrieve messages has not been investigated. In this work we show how a message set of consecutive integers can be encoded and retrieved for these two code families.
The distance profiles of linear block codes can be employed to design variational coding scheme for encoding message with variational length and getting lower decoding error probability by large minimum Hamming distance. %, e.g. the design of TFCI in CDMA and the researches on the second-order Reed-Muller code $\mathcal{RM}(2,m)$, etc. Considering convenience for encoding, we focus on the distance profiles with respect to cyclic subcode chains (DPCs) of cyclic codes over $GF(q)$ with length $n$ such that $\mbox{gcd}(n,q) = 1$. In this paper the optimum DPCs and the corresponding optimum cyclic…
As a subclass of linear codes, cyclic codes have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms, so they are widely used in many areas such as consumer electronics, data storage systems and communication systems. In this paper, we give a general construction of optimal p-ary cyclic codes which leads to three explicit constructions. In addition, another class of p-ary optimal cyclic codes are presented.
In this paper we obtain the [60,30,12], [64,32,12], [68,34,12], [72,36,12] self-dual codes as tailbitting convolutional codes with the smallest constraint length K=9. In this construction one information bit is modulo two added to the one of the encoder outputs and the first row in the quasi-cyclic generator matrix is replaced by the obtained row. The pure quasi-cyclic construction with K=10 is also available for [68,34,12] and [72,36,12] codes. The new [72,36,12] singly even self-dual code with parameters Beta=483 Gamma=0 was obtained.

The duals of two families of the cyclic codes are optimal.
Cyclic codes have attracted a lot of research interest for decades as they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In this paper, for an odd prime $p$, the weight distributions of two classes of $p$-ary cyclic codes are completely determined. We show that both codes have at most five nonzero weights.

In this paper, we establish a lemma in algebraic coding theory that frequently appears in the encoding and decoding of, e.g., Reed-Solomon codes, algebraic geometry codes, and affine variety codes. Our lemma corresponds to the non-systematic encoding of affine variety codes, and can be stated by giving a canonical linear map as the composition of an extension through linear feedback shift registers from a Grobner basis and a generalized inverse discrete Fourier transform. We clarify that our lemma yields the error-value estimation in the fast erasure-and-error decoding of a class of dual affin…
Concurrent coding is an encoding scheme with "holographic" type properties that are shown here to be robust against a significant amount of noise and signal loss. This single encoding scheme is able to correct for random errors and burst errors simultaneously, but does not rely on cyclic codes. A simple and practical scheme has been tested that displays perfect decoding when the signal to noise ratio is of order -18dB. The same scheme also displays perfect reconstruction when a contiguous block of 40% of the transmission is missing. In addition this scheme is 50% more efficient in terms of tra…

Cyclic codes have been widely used in digital communication systems and consume electronics as they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. The weight distribution of cyclic codes has been an important topic of study for many years. It is in general hard to determine the weight distribution of linear codes. Because of efficient encoding and decoding algorithms, cyclic codes are an important family of linear block codes, and have applications in communica- tion and storage systems. However, their weight distributions are known only for a few cases mainly on the codes with one or two nonzeros. In this paper, the weight distributions of two classes of cyclic codes with three or four nonzeros are determined.
Cyclic codes are a subclass of linear codes and have applications in consumer electronics, data storage systems, and communication systems as they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. Perfect nonlinear monomials were employed to construct optimal ternary cyclic codes with parameters $[3^m-1, 3^m-1-2m, 4]$ by Carlet, Ding and Yuan in 2005. In this paper, almost perfect nonlinear monomials, and a number of other monomials over $\gf(3^m)$ are used to construct optimal ternary cyclic codes with the same parameters. Nine open problems on such codes are also presented.
Subspace codes have received an increasing interest recently due to their application in error-correction for random network coding. In particular, cyclic subspace codes are possible candidates for large codes with efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In this paper we consider such cyclic codes and provide constructions of optimal codes for which their codewords do not have full orbits. We further introduce a new way to represent subspace codes by a class of polynomials called subspace polynomials. We present some constructions of such codes which are cyclic and analyze their parameters…
Cyclic codes are an interesting type of linear codes and have applications in communication and storage systems due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. They have been studied for decades and a lot of progress has been made. In this paper, three types of generalized cyclotomy of order two and three classes of cyclic codes of length $n_1n_2$ and dimension $(n_1n_2+1)/2$ are presented and analysed, where $n_1$ and $n_2$ are two distinct primes. Bounds on their minimum odd-like weight are also proved. The three constructions produce the best cyclic codes in certain cases.
Quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes which are known as QC-LDPC codes, have many applications due to their simple encoding implementation by means of cyclic shift registers. In this paper, we construct QC-LDPC codes from group rings. A group ring is a free module (at the same time a ring) constructed in a natural way from any given ring and any given group. We present a structure based on the elements of a group ring for constructing QC-LDPC codes. Some of the previously addressed methods for constructing QC-LDPC codes based on finite fields are special cases of the proposed…

It is worth noticing that some recent conclusions on such optimal ternary cyclic codes are some special cases of our work. More importantly, three of the nine open problems proposed by…

We present a new class of sparse and easily invertible circulant matrices that can have a sparse inverse though not being permutation matrices. Their study is useful in the design of quasi-cyclic low-density generator matrix codes, that are able to join the inner structure of quasi-cyclic codes with sparse generator matrices, so limiting the number of elementary operations needed for encoding. Circulant matrices of the proposed class permit to hit both targets without resorting to identity or permutation matrices that may penalize the code minimum distance and often cause significant error flo…
Cyclic codes have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. The decoding error probability and the undetected error probability are usually bounded by or given from the weight distributions of the codes. Most researches are about the determination of the weight distributions of cyclic codes with few nonzeros, by using quadratic form and exponential sum but limited to low moments. In this paper, we focus on the application of higher moments of the exponential sum to determine the weight distributions of a class of ternary cyclic codes with three nonzeros, combining with not only quadratic for…

Three of the five families of binary cyclic codes and their duals have a very good lower bound on their minimum distances and …
In this paper, we study skew cyclic codes with arbitrary length over the ring $R=\mathbb{F}_{p}+u\mathbb{F}_{p}$ where $p$ is an odd prime and $% u^{2}=0$. We characterize all skew cyclic codes of length $n$ as left $% R[x;θ]$-submodules of $R_{n}=R[x;θ]/\langle x^{n}-1\rangle $. We find all generator polynomials for these codes and describe their minimal spanning sets. Moreover, an encoding and decoding algorithm is presented for skew cyclic codes over the ring $R$. Finally, based on the theory we developed in this paper, we provide examples of codes with good parameters over $F_{p}$ with dif…
This paper focuses on the encoding and decoding of Construction D' coding lattices that can be used with shaping lattices for power-constrained channels. Two encoding methods and a decoding algorithm for Construction D' lattices are given. A design of quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) codes to form Construction D' lattices is presented. This allows construction of nested lattice codes which are good for coding, good for shaping, and have low complexity encoding and decoding. Numerical results of using $E_8$, $BW_{16}$ and Leech lattices for shaping a Construction D' lattice indic…

Cyclic codes are a subclass of linear codes and have wide applications in consumer electronics, data storage systems, and communication systems due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. Cyclic codes with many zeros and their dual codes have been a subject of study for many years. However, their weight distributions are known only for a very small number of cases. In general the calculation of the weight distribution of cyclic codes is heavily based on the evaluation of some exponential sums over finite fields. Very recently, Li, Hu, Feng and Ge studied a class of $p$-ary cyclic …
In our recent paper entitled "Quantum Quasi-Cyclic Low-Density Parity-Check codes" [ICIC 2009. LNCS 5754], it was claimed that some new quantum codes can be constructed via the CSS encoding/decoding approach with various lengths and rates. However, the further investigation shows that the proposed construction may steal some ideas from the paper entitled "Quantum Quasi-Cyclic LDPC codes" [quant-ph/0701020v2]. We feel that the apologizing point of the original protocol is that some results are almost similar to that of construction methods with algebraic combinatorics although we suggest the di…
Cyclic codes are a subclass of linear codes and have wide applications in data storage systems, communication systems and consumer electronics due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. Let $p\ge 5$ be an odd prime and $m$ be a positive integer. In this paper, we present four classes of optimal $p$-ary cyclic codes $\mathcal{C}_{(1,e,s)}$ with parameters $[p^m-1,p^m-2m-2,4]$ by analyzin…
Recently, Branco da Silva and Silva described an efficient encoding and decoding algorithm for Construction D$^\prime$ lattices. Using their algorithm, we propose a Construction D$^\prime$ lattice based on binary quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LPDC) codes and single parity-check product codes. The underlying codes designed by the balanced-distances rule contribute in a balanced manner to the squared minimum distance of the constructed lattice, which results in a high lattice coding gain. The proposed lattice based on IEEE 802.16e QC-LDPC codes is shown to provide competitive error-r…
Cyclic codes have many applications in consumer electronics, communication and data storage systems due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. An efficient approach to constructing cyclic codes is the sequence approach. In their articles [Discrete Math. 321, 2014] and [SIAM J. This article focuses on these exciting works by inves…
Quasi-polycyclic (QP for short) codes over a finite chain ring $R$ are a generalization of quasi-cyclic codes, and these codes can be viewed as an $R[x]$-submodule of $\mathcal{R}_m^{\ell}$, where $\mathcal{R}_m:= R[x]/\langle f\rangle$, and $f$ is a monic polynomial of degree $m$ over $R$. If $f$ factors uniquely into monic and coprime basic irreducibles, then their algebraic structure allow us to characterize the generator polynomials and the minimal generating sets of 1-generator QP codes as $R$-modules. In addition, we also determine the parity check polynomials for these codes by using th…
In a distributed space-time coding scheme, based on the relay channel model, the relay nodes co-operate to linearly process the transmitted signal from the source and forward them to the destination such that the signal at the destination appears as a space time block code. Recently, a code design criteria for achieving full diversity in a partially-coherent environment have been proposed along with codes based on differential encoding and decoding techniques. For such a set up, in this paper, a non-differential encoding technique and construction of distributed space time block codes from uni…

Cyclic codes are an interesting type of linear codes and have wide applications in communication and storage systems due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. Cyclic codes have been studied for many years, but their weight distribution are known only for a few cases. In this paper, let $\Bbb F_r$ be an extension of a finite field $\Bbb F_q$ and $r=q^m$, we determine the weight distribution of the cyclic codes $\mathcal C=\{c(a, b): a, b \in \Bbb F_r\},$ $$c(a, b)=(\mbox {Tr}_{r/q}(ag_1^0+bg_2^0), \ldots, \mbox {Tr}_{r/q}(ag_1^{n-1}+bg_2^{n-1})), g_1, g_2\in \Bbb F_r,$$ in the fo…
Locally repairable codes (LRCs) have emerged as an important coding scheme in distributed storage systems (DSSs) with relatively low repair cost by accessing fewer non-failure nodes. Theoretical bounds and optimal constructions of LRCs have been widely investigated. Optimal LRCs via cyclic and constacyclic codes provide significant benefit of elegant algebraic structure and efficient encoding procedure. In this paper, we continue to consider the constructions of optimal LRCs via cyclic and constacyclic codes with long code length. Specifically, we first obtain two classes of $q$-ary cyclic Sin…
A new nonlinear Rao-Nam like symmetric key encryption scheme is presented in this paper. QC-LDPC lattices that are practically implementable in high dimensions due to their low complexity encoding and decoding algorithms, are used in our design. The proposed cryptosystem withstands all variants of chosen plaintext attacks applied on Rao-Nam like cryptosystems due to its nonlinearity. The sparseness of the parity-check matrix of QC-LDPC lattices, quasi-cyclic nature of their generator a…
Joint encryption-encoding schemes have been released to fulfill both reliability and security desires in a single step. Using Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes in joint encryption-encoding schemes, as an alternative to classical linear codes, would shorten the key size as well as improving error correction capability. In this article, we present a joint encryption-encoding scheme using Quasi Cyclic-Low Density Parity Check (QC-LDPC) codes based on finite geometry. We observed that our proposed scheme not only outperforms its predecessors in key size and transmission rate, but also remains …
BCH (Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghen) error correcting codes ([1]-[2]) are now widely used in communication systems and digital technology. Direct LFSR(linear feedback shifted register)-based encoding of a long BCH code suffers from serial-in and serial-out limitation and large fanout effect of some XOR gates. This makes the LFSR-based encoders of long BCH codes cannot keep up with the data transmission speed in some applications. Several parallel long parallel encoders for long cyclic codes have been proposed in [3]-[8]. The technique for eliminating the large fanout effect by J-unfolding method a…
Cyclic codes are an interesting class of linear codes due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms as well as their theoretical importance. However, the dimension and minimum distance of BCH codes are not known in general. The objective of this paper is to study the dimension and minimum distance of a family of BCH codes over finite fields, i.e., a class of re…
Encoding and indexing of lattice codes is generalized from self-similar lattice codes to a broader class of lattices. If coding lattice $Λ_{\textrm{c}}$ and shaping lattice $Λ_{\textrm{s}}$ satisfy $Λ_{\textrm{s}} \subseteq Λ_{\textrm{c}}$, then $Λ_{\textrm{c}} / Λ_{\textrm{s}}$ is a quotient group that can be used to form a (nested) lattice code $\mathcal{C}$. Conway and Sloane's method of encoding and indexing does not apply when the lattices are not self-similar. Results are provided for two classes of lattices. (1) If $Λ_{\textrm{c}}$ and $Λ_{\textrm{s}}$ both have generator matrices in tr…
Cyclic codes over finite fields are widely employed in communication systems, storage devices and consumer electronics, as they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. BCH codes, as a special subclass of cyclic codes, are in most cases among the best cyclic codes. A subclass of good BCH codes are the narrow-sense BCH codes over $\gf(q)$ with length $n=(q^m-1)/(q-1)$. Little is known about this class of BCH codes when $q>2$. The objective of this paper is to study some of the codes within this class. In particular, the dimension, the minimum distance, and the weight distribution of som…
