The standard model of strong interactions invokes the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) of quarks and gluons interacting within a fluid. At sufficiently small length scales, the effective interactions between the color charged particles within the fluid are thought to be weak. Short distance asymptotic freedom provides the perturbation theory basis for comparisons between QCD theory and laboratory high energy scattering experiments. It is here shown that the asymptotically free vacuum has negative dissipation implicit in the color electrical conductivity. Negative dissipation implies an asymptotically free QCD negative temperature {\em excited state amplifier} unstable to decay. The qualitative experimental implications of this instability are explored.
Triviality-quantum decoherence of fermionic quantum chromodynamics SU(Nc)) in the presence of an external strong U(infinite) flavored constant noise field
We investigate the vacuum instability in the presence of dilaton field in a holographic set up. Although the dilaton is a bulk field, it leads to the vacuum instability on the boundary. We show that the whole process crucially depends on the probe brane position and as well on the radial coordinate. So that the effects of dilaton scale parameter in different regions of the bulk or for different probe brane positions are different. We also observe that in our study the temperature can strengthen the effect of scale parameter in reducing the potential barrier. Finally, we show that this Schwinge…
We propose a class of stationary color magnetic solutions in a pure quantum chromodynamics (QCD) which are stable under gluon quantum fluctuations. This resolves a long-standing problem of microscopic description of a stable non-trivial vacuum in a pure QCD. The solutions represent fixed points in a full space of gauge fields under Weyl group transformations. An important feature of the solutions is the phenomenon of Weyl invariant Abelian projection and Abelian dominance in the vacuum structure. As an application of our approach we consider an effective Lagrangian of pure Abelian glueballs in…
Basic quantum processes (such as particle creation, reflection, and transmission on the corresponding Klein steps) caused by inverse-square electric fields are calculated. These results represent a new example of exact nonperturbative calculations in the framework of QED. The inverse-square electric field is time-independent, inhomogeneous in the $x$-direction, and is inversely proportional to $x$ squared. We find exact solutions of the Dirac and Klein-Gordon equations with such a field and construct corresponding in- and out-states. With the help of these states and using the techniques devel…
A new exactly solvable case in strong-field quantum electrodynamics with a time-dependent external electric field is presented. The corresponding field is given by an analytic function, which is asymmetric (in contrast to Sauter-like electric field) with respect to the time instant, where it reaches its maximum value, that is why we call it the analytic asymmetric electric field. We managed to exactly solve the Dirac equation with such a field, which made it possible to calculate characteristics of the corresponding vacuum instability nonperturbatively. We construct the so-called in- and out-s…
We study the instability of the Higgs vacuum caused by a cloud of strings. By catalysis, the decay rate of the vacuum is highly enhanced and, when the energy density of the cloud is larger than the critical value, a semi-classical vacuum decay occurs. We also discuss the relation between the string cloud and observational constraints on the cosmic strings from the viewpoint of the catalysis, which are converted into bounds on the parameters of the Higgs potential.
While it is known that the QCD vacuum in a magnetic background exhibits both diamagnetic and paramagnetic characteristics in the low-energy domain, a systematic investigation of the corresponding phases emerging in the pion-dominated regime is still lacking. Here, within two-flavor chiral perturbation theory, taking into account the pion-pion interaction, we analyze the subtle interplay between zero- and finite-temperature portions in the magnetization and magnetic susceptibility. The dependence of the magnetic susceptibility on temperature and magnetic field strength in the paramagnetic and d…
Using holographic subregion complexity, we study the confinement-deconfinement phase transition of quantum chromodynamics. In the model we consider here, we observe a connection between the potential energy of probe meson and the behavior of its complexity. Moreover, near the critical point, at which the phase transition takes place, our numerical calculations indicate that we need less information to specify a meson in the non-conformal vacuum than in the conformal one, despite the fact that the non-conformal vacuum has larger energy!
There exists a clear physical motivation for theoretical studies of the vacuum instability related to the production of electron-positron pairs from a vacuum due to strong external electric fields. Various nonperturbative (with respect to the external fields) calculation methods were developed. Some of these methods are based on possible exact solutions of the Dirac equation. Unfortunately, there are only few cases when such solutions are known. Recently, an approximate but still nonperturbative approach to treat the vacuum instability caused by slowly varying $t$-electric potential steps (tim…
We study neutral Fermions pair creation with anomalous magnetic moment from the vacuum by time-independent magnetic-field inhomogeneity as an external background. We show that the problem is technically reduced to the problem of charged-particle creation by an electric step, for which the nonperturbative formulation of strong-field QED is used. We consider a magnetic step given by an analytic function and whose inhomogeneity may vary from a "gradual" to a "sharp" field configuration. We obtain corresponding exact solutions of the Dirac-Pauli equation with this field and calculate pertinent qua…
We show an inconsistence of the novel 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity by considering a quantum tunneling process of vacua. Using standard semi-classical techniques, we analytically study the vacuum decay rate for all allowed cases in the parameter space. It turns out, without exception, that the theory either encounters a disastrous divergence of vacuum decay rate, or exhibits a confusing complex value of vacuum decay rate, or involves an infinitely instability (a large vacuum mixing). These suggest a strong possibility that the theory, at least the vacuum of the theory, is either unphysical …
We calculate the vacuum (Casimir) energy for a scalar field with $ϕ^4$ self-interaction in (1+1) dimensions non perturbatively, i.e., in all orders of the self-interaction. We consider massive and massless fields in a finite box with Dirichlet boundary conditions and on the whole axis as well. For strong coupling, the vacuum energy is negative indicating some instability.
