Let X be a smooth projective Deligne-Mumford stack over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic 0. In this paper we construct the moduli stack of very twisted stable maps, extending the notion of twisted stable maps by Abramovich and Vistoli to allow for generic stabilizers on the source curves. We also consider the Gromov-Witten theory given by this construction.
We use the theory of twisted stable maps to Deligne-Mumford stacks to construct compactifications of the moduli space of pairs $(X \to C, S + F)$ where $X \to C$ is a fibered surface, $S$ is a sum of sections, $F$ is a sum of marked fibers, and $(X, S + F)$ is a stable pair in the sense of the minimal model program. This generalizes the work of Abramovich-Vistoli, who compactified the moduli space of fibered surfaces without marked fibers. Furthermore, we compare our compactification to Alexeev's space of stable maps and the KSBA compactification of stable pairs. As an application, we describe…
In this paper we introduce the stack of polarized twisted conics and we use it to give a new point of view on $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_2$. In particular, we present a new and independent approach to the computation of the integral Chow ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_2$, previously determined by Eric Larson.
We study K-equivalent birational maps which are resolved by a single blowup. Examples of such maps include standard flops and twisted Mukai flops. We give a criterion for such maps to be a standard flop or a twisted Mukai flop. As an application, we classify all such birational maps up to dimension 5.
We revisit the work of Lehn-Lehn-Sorger-van Straten on twisted cubic curves in a cubic fourfold not containing a plane in terms of moduli spaces. We show that the blow-up $Z'$ along the cubic of the irreducible holomorphic symplectic eightfold $Z$, described by the four authors, is isomorphic to an irreducible component of a moduli space of Gieseker stable torsion sheaves or rank three torsion free sheaves. For a very general such cubic fourfold, we show that $Z$ is isomorphic to a connected component of a moduli space of tilt-stable objects in the derived category and to a moduli space of Bri…
We construct a smooth Artin stack parameterizing the stable weighted curves of genus one with twisted fields and prove that it is isomorphic to the blowup stack of the moduli of genus one weighted curves studied by Hu and Li. This leads to a blowup-free construction of Vakil-Zinger's desingularization of the moduli of genus one stable maps to projective spaces. This construction provides the cornerstone of the theory of stacks with twisted fields, which is thoroughly studied in arXiv:2005.03384 and leads to a blowup-free resolution of the stable map moduli of genus two.
We explore the geometric interpretation of the twisted index of 3d ${\mathcal N} =4$ gauge theories on $S^1\times Σ$ where $Σ$ is a closed Riemann surface. We focus on a rich class of supersymmetric quiver gauge theories that have isolated vacua under generic mass and FI parameter deformations. We show that the path integral localises to a moduli space of generalised vortex equations on $Σ$, which can be understood algebraically as quasi-maps to the Higgs branch. We show that the twisted index reproduces the virtual Euler characteristic of the moduli spaces of twisted quasi-maps and demonstrat…
Hausel and Rodriguez-Villegas conjectured that the intersection form on the moduli space of stable PGL_n-Higgs bundles on a curve vanishes if the degree is coprime to n. In this note we prove this conjecture. Along the way we show that moduli spaces of stable chains are irreducible for stability parameters larger than the stability condition induced form stability of Higgs bundles.
Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective curve of genus $g$ and let $L$ be a line bundle on $X$ with $\mathrm{deg}\,L>0$. Let $\mathbf{M}$ be the moduli space of semistable rank 2 $L$-twisted Higgs bundles with trivial determinant on $X$. Let $\mathbf{M}_{X}$ be the moduli space of stable rank 2 $L$-twisted Higgs bundles with determinant $\mathcal{O}(-x)$ for some $x\in X$ on $X$. We construct a cycle in the product of a stack of rational maps from nonsingular curves to $\mathbf{M}_{X}$ and $\mathrm{Pic}^{2\mathrm{deg}\,L}(X)$ by using Hecke modifications of a stable $L$-twisted Higgs bundle in …
We present a definition of {\em twisted motivic Chern classes} for singular pairs $(X,Δ)$ consisting of a singular space $X$ and a $\mathbb Q$-Cartier divisor containing the singularities of $X$. The definition is a mixture of the construction of motivic Chern classes previously defined by Brasselet-Sch{ü}rmann-Yokura with the construction of multiplier ideals. The twisted motivic Chern classes are the limits of the elliptic classes defined by Borisov-Libgober. We show that with a suitable choice of the divisor $Δ$ the twisted motivic Chern classes satisfy the axioms of the stable envelopes in…
We present a geometric construction of push-forward maps along projective morphisms for cohomology theories representable in the stable motivic homotopy category assuming that the element corresponding to the stable Hopf map is inverted in the coefficient ring of the theory. The construction is parallel to the one given by A. Nenashev for derived Witt groups. Along the way we introduce cohomology groups twisted by a formal difference of vector bundles as cohomology groups of a certain Thom space and compute twisted cohomology groups of projective spaces.
The moduli space of stable quotients introduced by Marian-Oprea-Pandharipande provides a natural compactification of the space of morphisms from nonsingular curves to a nonsingular projective variety and carries a natural virtual class. We show that the analogue of Givental's J-function for the resulting twisted projective invariants is described by the same mirror hypergeometric series as the corresponding Gromov-Witten invariants (which arise from the moduli space of stable maps), but without the mirror transform (in the Calabi-Yau case). This implies that the stable quotients and Gromov-Wit…
Drinfeld's relative compactification plays a basic role in the theory of automorphic sheaves, and its singularities encode representation-theoretic information in the form of intersection cohomology. We introduce a resolution of singularities consisting of stable maps from nodal deformations of the curve into twisted flag varieties. As an application, we prove that the twisted intersection cohomology sheaf on Drinfeld's compactification is universally locally acyclic over the moduli stack of $G$-bundles at points sufficiently antidominant relative to their defect.
We prove a virtual localization formula for Bumsig Kim's space of logarithmic stable maps. The formula is closely related and can in fact recover the relative virtual localization formula of Graber and Vakil.
In the present paper, we study the (twisted) 3-canonical map of varieties of Albanese fiber dimension one. Based on a theorem about the regularity of direct image of canonical sheaves, we prove that the 3-canonical map is generically birational when the genus of a general fiber of the Albanese map is 2.
By using Oprea's Bialynicki-Birula decomposition for the stack of genus zero stable maps to flag manifolds. We calculate the Poincaré polynomial of the moduli space in degree one and degree two.
Using stable log maps, we introduce log twisted differentials extending the notion of abelian differentials to the Deligne-Mumford boundary of stable curves. The moduli stack of log twisted differentials provides a compactification of the strata of abelian differentials. The open strata can have up to three connected components, due to spin and hyperelliptic structures. We prove that the spin parity can be distinguished on the boundary of the log compactification. Moreover, combining the techniques of log geometry and admissible covers, we introduce log twisted hyperelliptic differentials, and…
Using the equivariant virtual cycle of the moduli space of stable maps to [C/Z_r], or equivalently, the vanishing of high-degree Chern classes of a certain vector bundle over the moduli space of stable maps to BZ_r, we derive relations in the Chow ring of Mbar_{g,n}(BZ_r,0). These push forward to yield tautological relations on Mbar_{g,n}.
In this paper, we prove the moduli spaces of genus zero stable log maps to a large class of wonderful compactifications are irreducible and unirational.
We consider families of curve-to-curve maps that have no singularities except those of genus 0 stable maps and that satisfy a versality condition at each singularity. We provide a universal expression for the cohomology class Poincaré dual to the locus of any given singularity. Our expressions hold for any family of curve-to-curve maps satisfying the above properties.
Moduli spaces of stable maps to a smooth projective variety typically have several components. We express the virtual class of the moduli space of genus one stable maps to a smooth projective variety as a sum of virtual classes of the components. The key ingredient is a generalised functoriality result for virtual classes. We show that the natural maps from 'ghost' components of the genus one moduli space to moduli spaces of genus zero stable maps satisfy the strong push forward property. As a consequence, we give a cycle-level formula which relates standard and reduced genus one Gromov--Witte…
Grothendieck duality theory assigns to essentially-finite-type maps f of noetherian schemes a pseudofunctor f^\times right-adjoint to Rf_*, and a pseudofunctor f^! agreeing with f^\times when f is proper, but equal to the usual inverse image f^* when f is etale. We define and study a canonical map from the first pseudofunctor to the second. This map behaves well with respect to flat base change, and is taken to an isomorphism by "compactly supported" versions of standard derived functors. Concrete realizations are described, for instance for maps of affine schemes. Applications include proofs …
The elliptic algebras in the title are connected graded $\mathbb{C}$-algebras, denoted $Q_{n,k}(E,τ)$, depending on a pair of relatively prime integers $n>k\ge 1$, an elliptic curve $E$, and a point $τ\in E$. This paper examines a canonical homomorphism from $Q_{n,k}(E,τ)$ to the twisted homogeneous coordinate ring $B(X_{n/k},σ',\mathcal{L}'_{n/k})$ on the characteristic variety $X_{n/k}$ for $Q_{n,k}(E,τ)$. When $X_{n/k}$ is isomorphic to $E^g$ or the symmetric power $S^gE$ we show the homomorphism $Q_{n,k}(E,τ) \to B(X_{n/k},σ',\mathcal{L}'_{n/k})$ is surjective, that the relations for $B(X_…
In this short notes, we prove a stronger version of Theorem 0.6 in our previous paper arXiv:1709.01485: Given a smooth log scheme $(\mathcal{X} \supset \mathcal{D})_{W(\mathbb{F}_q)}$, each stable twisted $f$-periodic logarithmic Higgs bundle $(E,θ)$ over the closed fiber $(X \supset D)_{\mathbb{F}_q}$ will correspond to a $\mathrm{PGL}_r(\mathbb{F}_{p^f})$-crystalline representation of $π_1((\mathcal{X} \setminus \mathcal{D})_{W(\mathbb{F}_q)[\frac{1}{p}]})$ such that its restriction to the geometric fundamental group is absolutely irreducible.
Let $\ix$ be a smooth Deligne-Mumford stack over the complex numbers. One can define twisted orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of $\ix$ by considering multiplicative invertible characteristic classes of various bundles on the moduli spaces of stable maps $\ix_{g,n,d}$, cupping them with evaluation and cotangent line classes and then integrating against the virtual fundamental class. These are more general than the twisted invariants introduced by Tseng. We express the generating series of the twisted invariants in terms of the generating series of the untwisted ones. We derive the corollaries …
