We study static cylindrically symmetric vacuum solutions in Weyl coordinates in the context of the metric f(R) theories of gravity. The set of the modified Einstein equations is reduced to a single equation and it is shown how one can construct exact solutions corresponding to different $f(R)$ models. In particular the family of solutions with constant Ricci scalar ($R=R_{0}$) is found explicitly which, as a special case (R=0), includes the exterior spacetime of a cosmic string. Another new solution with constant, non-zero Ricci scalar is obtained and its possible relation to the Linet-Tian solution in general relativity is discussed.
Several points regarding cylindrical Brans-Dicke geometries are studied. The issue of particle trajectories for the vacuum cylindrical solution is revisited. The possible particular nature of a global string metric is analysed. The general form of the junction conditions for matching cylindrical solutions within this theory is written down, and the relation with the general relativity limit is discussed.
We investigate some exact static cylindrically symmetric solutions for a perfect fluid in the metric $f(R)$ theory of gravity. For this purpose, three different families of solutions are explored. We evaluate energy density, pressure, Ricci scalar and functional form of $f(R)$. It is interesting to mention here that two new exact solutions are found from the last approach, one is in particular form and the other is in the general form. The general form gives a complete description of a cylindrical star in $f(R)$ gravity.
This paper is devoted to investigate cylindrical solutions in mimetic gravity. The explicit forms of the metric of this theory, namely mimetic-Kasner (say) have been obtained. In this study we have noticed that the Kasner's family of exact solutions needs to be reconsidered under this type of modified gravity. A no-go theorem is proposed for the exact solutions in the presence of a cosmological constant.
In this article we investigate exact cylindrically symmetric solutions to the modified Einstein field equations in the brane world gravity scenarios. It is shown that for the special choice of the equation of state $2U+P=0$ for the dark energy and dark pressure, the solutions found could be considered formally as solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations in 4-D general relativity.
Considering cylindrical topology we present the static solution for a charged black hole in conformal gravity. We show that unlike the general relativistic case there are two different solutions, both including a factor that when set to zero recovers the familiar static charged black string solution in Einstein's theory. This factor gives rise to a linear term in the potential that also features in the neutral case and may have significant ramifications for particle trajectories.
We present the exact exterior solution for a static and neutral cylindrically symmetric source in locally conformal invariant Weyl gravity. As a special case the general relativity analogue still can be attained, however only as a sub-family of solutions. Our solution contains a linear term that would thus result in a potential that grows linearly over large distances. This may have implications for exotic astrophysical structures as well as matter fields on the extremely small scale.
We consider the existence of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton plus fluid system for the case of stationary cylindrically symmetric spacetimes. An exact inhomogeneous $ ε$-order solution is found, where the parameter $ε$ parametrizes the non-minimally coupled electromagnetic field. Some its physical attributes are investigated and a connection with already known Gödel-type solution is given. It is shown that the found solution also survives in the string-inspired charged gravity framework. We find that a magnetic field has positive influence on the chronology violation unlike the dilaton influence.
In this paper we consider a static, cylindrically symmetric spacetime with coincident f(Q) gravity. Since the field equation of this spacetime in symmetric teleparallel gravity is suitable for choosing the function of f(Q) in the form of power series and exponential forms, perfect fluid solutions of these forms are discussed. Energy densities, directional pressures and energy conditions are plotted and analysed for a few different metric potentials. Although cosmic strings violate all energy conditions in both f(Q) functions, the Levi-Civita solution violates all energy conditions in the power…
We present cylindrically symmetric solutions for a type of the Gauss-Bonnet gravity, in details. We derive the full system of the field equations and show that there exist seven families of exact solutions for three forms of viable models. By applying the method based on the effective fluid energy momentum tensor components, we evaluate the mass per unit length for the solutions. From dynamical point of the view, by evaluating the null energy condition for these configurations, we show that in some cases the azimuthal pressure breaks the energy condition. This violation of the null energy cond…
It was shown by Hiscock that the energy-momentum tensor commonly used to model local cosmic strings in linearized Einstein gravity can be extended and used in the full theory, obtaining a metric in the exterior of the source with the same deficit angle. Here we show that this tensor is an exception within a family for which a static solution does not exist in full Einstein nor in Brans-Dicke gravity.
Solutions for cylindrically symmetric spacetimes in f(R) gravity are studied. As a first approach, R=constant is assumed. A solution was found such that it is equivalent to a result given by Azadi et al. for R=0 and a metric was found for R=constant different from zero. Comparison with the case of general relativity with cosmological constant is made and the metric constants are given in terms of Λ. Overlap with arXiv:0810.4673 [gr-qc] by A. Azadi, D. Momeni and M. This paper investigates instability ranges of a cylindrically symmetric collapsing stellar object in Brans-Dicke theory of gravity. For this purpose, we use perturbation approach in the modified field equations as well as dynamical equations and construct a collapse equation. The collapse equation with adiabatic index ($Γ$) is used to explore the instability ranges of both isotropic as well as anisotropic fluid in Newtonian and post-Newtonian approximations. It turns out that the instability ranges depend on the dynamical variables of collapsing fluid. We conclude that the system always remain…
Four-dimensional cylindrically symmetric spacetimes with homothetic self-similarity are studied in the context of Einstein's Theory of Gravity, and a class of exact solutions to the Einstein-massless scalar field equations is found. Their local and global properties are investigated and found that they represent gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field. In some cases the collapse forms black holes with cylindrical symmetry, while in the other cases it does not. The linear perturbations of these solutions are also studied and given in closed form. From the spectra of the unstable eigen…
In this paper, we analyze a few physical characteristics of gravastar with cylindrical geometry in $f(R,T)$ theory, where $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $T$ is the trace of energy-momentum tensor. The gravastar is generally considered to be a substitute of a black hole with three different regions. In the present work, we examine the formulation of gravastar-like cylindrical structures in $f(R,T)$ theory. By using Darmois and Israel matching conditions, we formulate a mass function of a thin shell. We calculate the different physical characteristics of gravastar, in particular, entropy within the…
This paper is devoted to analyze the dynamical instability of a self-gravitating object undergoes to collapse process. We take the framework of generalized teleparallel gravity with cylindrically symmetric gravitating object. The matter distribution is represented by locally anisotropic energy-momentum tensor. We develop basic equations such as dynamical equations along with matching conditions and Harrison-Wheeler equation of state. By applying linear perturbation strategy, we construct collapse equation which is used to accomplish the instability ranges in Newtonian and post-Newtonian regime…
By the end of the evaluation of this research artifact, readers would be able to describe the effect of conducted plasma on evolution of stellar objects. In this script, we have analyzed the stability of charged cylindrically symmetric stellar objects in the context of f(R; T) theory of gravity. We have fabricated field equations and their conforming dynamical equations and then we have used perturbation scheme for additional analysis. Adiabatic index Γ has been used to sort inequalities in the Newtonian and the post Newtonian regimes. At the end we caught some extra limitations due to which w…
Observation shows that the velocities of stars grow by approximately 2 to 3 orders of magnitude when the distances from the centers of the galaxies are in the range of $0.5$ kpc to $82.3$ kpc, before they begin to tend to a constant value. Up to know, the reason for this behavior is still a matter for debate. In this work, we propose a model which adequately describes this unusual behavior using a (nearly) cylindrical symmetrical solution in the framework of a scalar-tensor-like (the Brans-Dicke model) theory of gravity.
The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the exact solutions of cylindrically symmetric spacetime in the context of $f(R,T)$ gravity [1], where $f(R,T)$ is an arbitrary function of Ricci scalar $R$ and trace of the energy momentum tensor $T$. We explore the exact solutions for two different classes of $f(R,T)$ models. The first class $f(R,T)=R+2f(T)$ yields a solution which corresponds to an exterior metric of cosmic string while the second class $f(R,T)=f_1(R)+f_2(T)$ provides an additional solution representing a non-null electromagnetic field. The energy densities and corresponding …
A previous paper constructed a kinematic basis for spin networks with planar or cylindrical symmetry and arbitrary polarization. This paper imposes a constraint which limits the gravitational wave to a single polarization. The spectrum of the constraint contains a physically reasonable number of zero eigenvalues, and the zero eigenvectors can be constructed explicitly. Commutation of the constraint with the Hamiltonian is expected to lead to a further constraint. This new constraint is not investigated in this paper, but I argue it will be non-local, relating states at two or more neighboring …
This paper is devoted to investigate the cylindrical collapse of an anisotropic fluid in $f(R)$ gravity. For this purpose, the viscous charged anisotropic fluid dissipating energy with heat flow and shear is assumed. We use the perturbation scheme to develop the dynamical equations for the variables that ultimately lead to the disturbance of the physical variables and the Starobinksy like $f(R)$ model chosen. The evolution of the matter variables is discussed with the help of these equations. It can be concluded that the range of dynamic instabilities depends on the field strength, density dis…
We perform quantization of a model in which gravity is coupled to a circular dust shell in 2+1 spacetime dimensions. Canonical analysis shows that momentum space of this model is ADS^2-space, and the global chart for it is provided by the Euler angles. In quantum kinematics, this results in non-commutativity in coordinate space and discreteness of the shell radius in timelike region, which includes the collapse point. At the level of quantum dynamics, we find transition amplitudes between zero and non-zero eigenvalues of the shell radius, which describe the rate of gravitational collapse (boun…
This paper investigates some physical features that give rise to complexity within the self-gravitating static cylindrical structure coupled with anisotropic distribution in the energy-momentum squared gravity. To accomplish this, we formulate the modified field equations and explore the structure of the astronomical body. The C-energy and Tolman mass are also calculated to discuss the matter distribution. We then obtain some structure scalars via orthogonal splitting of the Riemann tensor. Since, the complexity of the considered structure is influenced by a variety of variables, including ani…
Linearly polarized cylindrical waves in four-dimensional vacuum gravity are mathematically equivalent to rotationally symmetric gravity coupled to a Maxwell (or Klein-Gordon) field in three dimensions. The quantization of this latter system was performed by Ashtekar and Pierri in a recent work. Employing that quantization, we obtain here a complete quantum theory which describes the four-dimensional geometry of the Einstein-Rosen waves. In particular, we construct regularized operators to represent the metric. It is shown that the results achieved by Ashtekar about the existence of important q…
Cylindrically-symmetric solutions in Conformal Gravity are investigated and several new solutions are presented and discussed. Among them, a family of vacuum solutions, generalizations of the Melvin solution and cosmic strings of the Abelian Higgs model. The Melvin-like solutions have finite energy per unit length, while the string-like solutions do not.
In this article, we have studied a cylindrically symmetric self-gravitating dynamical object via complexity factor which is obtained through orthogonal splitting of Reimann tensor in $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity. Our study is based on the definition of complexity for dynamical sources, proposed by Herrera \cite{12b}. We actually want to analyze the behavior of complexity factor for cylindrically symmetric dynamical source in modified theory. For this, we define the scalar functions through orthogonal splitting of Reimann tensor in $f(R,T)$ gravity and work out structure scalars for cylindrical g…
This article focuses on the formulation of some scalar factors which are uniquely expressed in terms of matter variables for dynamical charged dissipative cylindrical geometry in a standard gravity model $\mathcal{R}+Φ\mathcal{Q}$ ($Φ$ is the coupling parameter, $\mathcal{Q}=\mathcal{R}_{φ\vartheta}\mathcal{T}^{φ\vartheta}$) and calculates four scalars by orthogonally decomposing the Riemann tensor. We find that only $\mathcal{Y}_{TF}$ involves inhomogeneous energy density, heat flux, charge and pressure anisotropy coupled with modified corrections, and thus call it as complexity factor for th…
The conserved quantities, that are, gravitational energy-momentum and its relevant quantities are investigated for cylindrical and spherical gravitational waves in the framework of teleparallel equivalent of General Relativity using the Hamiltonian approach. For both cylindrical and spherical gravitational waves, we obtain definite energy and constant momentum. The constant momentum shows consistency with the results available in General Relativity and teleparallel gravity. The angular momentum for cylindrical and spherical gravitational waves also turn out to be constant. Further, we evaluate…
In this paper, we investigate complexity of anisotropic cylindrical object under the influence of electromagnetic field in $f(G,T)$ theory, where $G$ and $T$ indicate the Gauss-Bonnet term and trace of the stress-energy tensor, respectively. For this purpose, we calculate the modified field equations, non-conservation equation and mass distributions that assist in comprehending the structure of astrophysical objects. The Riemann tensor is divided into different structure scalars, among which one is called the complexity factor. This factor is used to measure complexity of the system due to the…
Using the quasi-Maxwell form of the vacuum Einstein equations and demanding the presence of a cylindrically symmetric radial gravomagnetic field, we find the solution to the Einstein equations which represents the gravity field of a line gravomagnetic monopole. We show that this is the generalization of the Levi-Civita's cylindrically symmetric static spacetime, in the same way that the NUT metric is the empty space generalization of the Schwarzschild metric. Some of the features of this metric as well as its relation to other metrics are discussed.
Cylindrically reduced Einstein gravity can be regarded as an $SL(2,R)/SO(2)$ sigma model coupled to 2D dilaton gravity. By using the corresponding 2D diffeomorphism algebra of constraints and the asymptotic behaviour of the Ernst equation we show that the theory can be mapped by a canonical transformation into a set of free fields with a Minkowskian target space. We briefly discuss the quantization in terms of these free-field variables, which is considerably simpler than in the other approaches.
The mass per unit length of a cylindrical system can be found from its external metric as can its angular momentum. Can the fluxes of energy, momentum and angular momentum along the cylinder also be so found? We derive the metric of a beam of circularly polarized electromagnetic radiation from the Einstein-Maxwell equations. We show how the uniform plane wave solutions miss the angular momentum carried by the wave. We study the energy, momentum, angular momentum and their fluxes along the cylinder both for this beam and in general. The three Killing vectors of any stationary cylindrical system…
Given a generic function $f(T)$ we construct in closed forms cylindrically symmetric static $n$-dimensional uncharged and charged de Sitter and anti-de Sitter solutions (including black holes, wormholes and possibly other regular solutions) in $f(T)$ gravity. Applications to some known models are considered.
We investigate static cylindrically symmetric vacuum solutions in Weyl coordinates in the framework of f(T) theories of gravity, where T is the torsion scalar. The set of modified Einstein equations is presented and the fourth coming equations are established. Specific physical expressions are assumed for the algebraic function f(T) and solutions are obtained. Moreover, general solution is obtained with finite values of u(r) on the axis r = 0, and this leads to a constant torsion scalar. Also, cosmological constant is introduced and its relation to Linet-Tian solution in GR is commented.
In the search for a covariant formulation for Loop Quantum Gravity, spin foams have arised as the corresponding discrete space-time structure and, among the different models, the Barrett-Crane model seems the most promising. Here, we study its boundary states and introduce cylindrical functions on both the Lorentz connection and the time normal to the studied hypersurface. We call them projected cylindrical functions and we explain how they would naturally arise in a covariant formulation of Loop Quantum Gravity.
Cylindrically symmetric static manifolds are classified according to their homotheties and metrics. In each case the homothety vector fields and the corresponding metrics are obtained explicitly by solving the homothety equations. It turns out that these metrics admit homothety groups $H_m$, where $m=4,5,7,11$. This classification is then used to identify the cylindrically symmetric static spaces admitting the local homotheties, which are globally prohibited due to their topological construction. Einstein's field equations are then used to identify the physical nature of the spaces thus obtain…
Estimating the mass of the thin shell of gravastars in generalised cylindrically symmetric space-time within the framework of Rastall theory of gravity
Static cylindrical shells made of various types of matter are studied as sources of the vacuum Levi-Civita metrics. Their internal physical properties are related to the two essential parameters of the metrics outside. The total mass per unit length of the cylinders is always less than 1/4. The results are illustrated by a number of figures.
Every (1 polarization) cylindrical wave solution of vacuum general relativity is completely determined by a corresponding axisymmetric solution to the free scalar wave equation on an auxilliary 2+1 dimensional flat spacetime. The physical metric at radius R is determined by the energy, $γ(R)$, of the scalar field in a box (in the flat spacetime) of radius R. In a recent work, among other important results, Ashtekar and Pierri have introduced a strategy to study the quantum geometry in this system, through a regularized quantum counterpart of $γ(R)$. We show that this regularized object is a de…
We construct traversable thin-shell wormholes in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati theory with cylindrical symmetry applying the cut and paste procedure to a flat black string solution of the five-dimensional vacuum Einstein field equations. In contrast to general relativity case, where thin-shell wormholes violate both weak and null energy conditions, we show that static wormholes are supported by normal matter while vacuum wormholes do not exist.
Gravitational waves in cylindrically symmetric Einstein gravity are described by an effective energy tensor with the same form as that of a massless Klein- Gordon field, in terms of a gravitational potential generalizing the Newtonian potential. Energy-momentum vectors for the gravitational waves and matter are defined with respect to a canonical flow of time. The combined energy-momentum is covariantly conserved, the corresponding charge being the modified Thorne energy. Energy conservation is formulated as the first law expressing the gradient of the energy as work and energy-supply terms, i…
In the previous work we introduced a new static cylindrically symmetric vacuum solutions in Weyl coordinates in the context of the metric f(R) theories of gravity\cite{1}. Now we obtain a 2-parameter family of exact solutions which contains cosmological constant and a new parameter as $β$. This solution corresponds to a constant Ricci scalar. We proved that in $f(R)$ gravity, the constant curvature solution in cylindrically symmetric cases is only one member of the most generalized Tian family in GR. We show that our constant curvature exact solution is applicable to the exterior of a string. …
We present calculations of gyroscope precession in spacetimes described by Levi-Civita and Lewis metrics, under different circumstances. By doing so we are able to establish a link between the parameters of the metrics and observable quantities, providing thereby a physical interpretation for those parameters, without specifying the source of the field.
We find exact solutions for f (T) teleparallel gravity for the cases of spherically and cylindrically symmetric tetrads. The adopted method is based on the search for Noether symmetries of point-like Lagrangians defined in Jordan and Einstein frames. Constants of motion are used to reduce the dynamical system. We first consider the Lagrangian defined in the Jordan frame for a spherically symmetric tetrad and, by the help of two constants of motion, we eliminate a tetrad potential and integrate the other. The more complicated structure in the Einstein frame is also overcome by the same method. A…
We construct an approximate solution which describes the gravitational emission from a naked singularity formed by the gravitational collapse of a cylindrical thick shell composed of dust. The assumed situation is that the collapsing speed of the dust is very large. In this situation, the metric variables are obtained approximately by a kind of linear perturbation analysis in the background Morgan solution which describes the motion of cylindrical null dust. The most important problem in this study is what boundary conditions for metric and matter variables should be imposed at the naked singu…
We present static cylindrically symmetric electrovac solutions in the framework of the Brans-Dicke theory and show that our solution yields some of the well-known solutions for special values of the parameters of the resulting metric functions.
In this study, using Moller and Tolman prescriptions we calculate energy and momentum densities for the general cylindrically symmetric spacetime metric. We find that results are finite and well defined in these complexes. We also give the results for some cylindrically symmetric spacetime models.
We consider a family of cylindrical spacetimes endowed with angular momentum that are solutions to the vacuum Einstein equations outside the symmetry axis. This family was recently obtained by performing a complete gauge fixing adapted to cylindrical symmetry. In the present work, we find boundary conditions that ensure that the metric arising from this gauge fixing is well defined and that the resulting reduced system has a consistent Hamiltonian dynamics. These boundary conditions must be imposed both on the symmetry axis and in the region far from the axis at spacelike infinity. Employing s…
We investigate an infinitesimally thin cylindrical shell composed of counter-rotating dust particles. This system was studied by Apostolatos and Thorne in terms of the C-energy for a bounded domain. In this paper, we reanalyze this system by evaluating the C-energy on the future null infinity. We find that some class of momentarily static and radiation-free initial data does not settle down into static, equilibrium configurations, and otherwise infinite amount of the gravitational radiation is emitted to the future null infinity. Our result implies the existence of an instability in this syste…
Variables for constraint free null canonical vacuum general relativity are presented which have simple Poisson brackets that facilitate quantization. Free initial data for vacuum general relativity on a pair of intersecting null hypersurfaces has been known since the 1960s. These consist of the "main" data which are set on the bulk of the two null hypersurfaces, and additional "surface" data set only on their intersection 2-surface. More recently the complete set of Poisson brackets of such data has been obtained. However the complexity of these brackets is an obstacle to their quantization. P…
We report a new family of solutions to Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity in 2+1 dimensions and Einstein-Maxwell gravity with cylindrical symmetry in 3+1 dimensions. A set of static charged solutions in 2+1 dimensions are obtained by a compactification of charged solutions in 3+1 dimensions with cylindrical symmetry. These solutions contain naked singularities for certain values of the parameters considered. New rotating charged solutions in 2+1 dimensions and 3+1 dimensions are generated treating the static charged solutions as seed metrics and performing $SL(2;R)$ transformations.
In this paper we construct and analyze new classes of wormhole and flux tube-like solutions for the 5D vacuum Einstein equations. These 5D solutions possess generic local anisotropy which gives rise to a gravitational running or scaling of the Kaluza-Klein ``electric'' and ``magnetic'' charges of these solutions. It is also shown that it is possible to self-consistently construct these anisotropic solutions with various rotational 3D hypersurface geometries (i.e. ellipsoidal, cylindrical, bipolar and toroidal). The local anisotropy of these solutions is handled using the technique of anholonom…
This paper is devoted to present new definition of complexity factor for static cylindrically symmetric matter configurations in $f(R,T,R_{μν}T^{μν})$ gravity. For this purpose, we have considered irrotational static cylindrical spacetime coupled with a locally anisotropic relativistic fluid. After formulating gravitational field and conservation equations, we have performed orthogonal splitting of the Riemann curvature tensor. Unlike GR (for spherical case) the one of the structure scalars $X_{TF}$, has been identified to be a complexity factor. This factor contains effective forms of the ene…
A cylindrically symmetric perfect fluid spacetime with no curvature singularity is shown. The equation of state for the perfect fluid is that of a stiff fluid. The metric is diagonal and non-separable in comoving coordinates for the fluid. It is proven that the spacetime is geodesically complete and globally hyperbolic.
Dirac's constraint analysis and the symplectic structure of geodesic equations are obtained for the general cylindrically symmetric stationary spacetime. For this metric, using the obtained first order Lagrangian, the geodesic equations of motion are integrated, and found some solutions for Lewis, Levi-Civita, and Van Stockum spacetimes.
In continuation of a preceding work on introducing asymmetric thin-shell wormholes as an emerging class of traversable wormholes within the context, this time cylindrically symmetric spacetimes are exploited to construct such wormholes. Having established a generic formulation, first the Linet-Tian metric generally, and then the cosmic string metric and a black string metric in greater details are studied as constructing blocks of cylindrical asymmetric thin-shell wormholes. The corresponding wormholes are investigated within the linearized stability analysis framework to firstly, demonstrate …
